Companies are making profits, trust me. Nigerians are patronizing these companies in the hundreds of millions but rather than these funds go back into circulation in the form of taxes and be used to create employment, it stays back in the hands of the individuals and a few people who use it to suppress the voices of the rest... Take our oil marketers and petrol dealers for instance.. They make so much money that they can bribe government officials to keep the status quo and keep Nigerians buying petrol instead of having electricity.
in developed nations, India for example, the generate solar electricity for as low as N20/kwh(@N320/$) while the best deisel gen or plants, which is the most efficient option, of less than 500kva can give is N80/kwh. Please explain how the companies are suppose to pay more tax after incurring higher running cost and getting less profits?

Yes. God catch them.
This support Borno governor claim that Buhari is the reason states can pay salary today. With oil selling at $108 borno got N4.6B of which after a near 80% reduction in income they are still getting N2.6 allocation. That's due to Buhari's prudence.

tax is paid after gross profit, right? Which means your expenses were deducted, including losses from previous cycle etc... Tax is really an inevitable for government to function, I know government has been irresponsible but if people start paying taxes, trust me they'll become more intolerant to government's excesses and start being more active in politics and governance
Yes tax is paid after profits, but then if companies aren't getting profits like their foreign counterparts then whats the excuse for the then not to relocate or for foreign investors to come in.

Tax is inevitable throughout the world, companies have to be taxed for government to provide services, Nigeria can't move forward without reviewing its tax policies. Oil is not a sustainable only source of revenue anymore so taxation laws should be reviewed in my opinion...
Tax throughout the world is commesurate with what the govt provides her people. How do you approach a company that provides her own water, electricity, maintains her vehicle more often due to bad roads etc and tell them to pay you same tax that's being paid in other countries where these services are available? Pls answer me.

Aregbesola is trying to pay workers whose effort doesn't generate or support the economic system.
Politics › Re: How Buhari’s Financial Discipline Save States Amidst Fall In Oil Price- Shettima by Standing5(m): 7:09pm On Mar 28, 2016
DailyPost:
“When the price of crude oil was over one hundred dollars per barrel, Borno State was receiving around N4.5 billion per month. Today, oil price has grossly fallen down to less than forty dollars per barrel which represents about 80 percent fall in price. Oil is our main source of revenue as a country, so ordinarily, State like Borno should have received 20 percent of what we were receiving when oil was over 100 dollars. This month, we received N2.6 billion at time oil is below 40 dollars and this is more than 50 percent of what we were receiving at a time oil was over 100 dollars.
Our salary wage is N2.6 billion but we still have to be grateful to President Buhari because wallahi if not for his financial discipline, all of us here would be in soup by now. I am not here to play politics, I respect the fact that we are a mixture of people with different political affiliations. Our brother, the Governor of Gombe State is in PDP so I am not playing politics but we have a responsibility to explain situations to the public so that they understand the economic times we are in at the moment and Buhari has made things tolerable in the face of the bad situation” the Governor said amidst ovation at the gathering.

Absolutely true talk there. If not for Buhari Financial prudence Iweala, Emefiele and co were already suggesting NNPC be sold and VAT be raised to 12%. Jonathan already stopped amnesty and was warning us of the tougher times ahead.
The picture becomes clearer when you realise that each barrel of oil cost a flat fee to explore and/ or produce whether at $108pb+ or at -$40pb. Putting that flat fee at a conservative value of $20pb makes the difference wider and clearer.

Actually, taxation laws should be reviewed to enhance the revenue generation potentials of states. Some companies should also no longer be exempted from state and LG taxation as this kills IGR of states affected. The newly proposed Federal communication tax of 11% should be reduced to about 6% so that state and LG tax could be added to the communication tax to average it around 17 or 18%. Only then can states see the prospects of developing their states for investors to come in... In the US for instance, the Federal wireless communication tax is about 5.8% while State-Local tax is about 11.2%. This makes the states earn money for wireless communication business activated or used within their jurisdiction.
Do you think you are making sense. Instead of the govt to act responsibly you are here clamouring for them to squeeze the telcos. What happened to the billion of excess crude money they collected?
Any state that thinks taxing telcos who av been sustained by federal laws and regulation so far is the way to go should av a rethink.
Politics › Re: Why Nigeria Will Remain In The Dark by Standing5(m): 11:12am On Mar 28, 2016
The reason why the masses suffer so much here is that there are no emphasis on productivity. We prefer to ask God for direct favour instead of the wisdom to help actualize our dreams. Tell me if we all pray to God and he gives us all N10,000,000,000.00 (N10B) each will it solve our problems? NO. And that becos everybody will wait on one another to produce what he desires and in the end when everyone of us is desperate one of two things will happen (1) Either a foreigner shows up and collect all the money without offering us much or (2) we die and leave behind our money.
As long as we relegate productivity to the background we will continue to chase imaginary targets 85% of the time. The politicians are simply preying on our laziness and division. If u work hard then you wouldn't fold ur hands and allow politicians allocate majority of funds meant to serve u to themselves. They will keep promoting secret groups and do in rituals to empower those groups as long as u and i allow them.

He is always right, competent, brilliant, knows all, can proffer solutions in his own eyes yet we all (those with inner eyes) know that Fashole is one big scammer in politics with little success that does not commensurate with the funds at his disposal while head of Lagos affairs for 8 full years.... Now fast forward to now, his bogus speeches about power in 2014 against the Jonathan government is about to start haunting this over hyped "class captain of mediocre Governors" in Nigeria. Hold Fashola responsible for epileptic power supply
Going by the bold then GEJ is actually guilty cos he spent the highest of presidents we av had. He had oil averaging $108pb during his ineffectual five years as against Buhari's admin Less than $40pb. Plus Fashola has barely be there for 7 months compared to 7 years in the OP article.

But in seven years, we (Lagos State Government) have created four plants, it showed that something is missing. Unless you vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC to change an inefficient government, it is going to be difficult to have electricity.

ShinnBet:
The January 15, 1966 coup has been erroneously declared and described as an Igbo coup.

While the tribal make up of the Jan 15 coup does not bear the hallmark to one single tribe as there where Yoruba and Hausa officers and rank and file involved in the planning and execution of the coup, the backlash of the jan 15 coup led to genocidal attacks on igbos living in the north.

Now if we consider the Dimka coup of 1976 on the murtala administration you will find one striking characteristic in terms of the make up of the coup plotters who were mainly drawn from the Anges tribe from Platuea state and also from other middle belt Christian tribes.

So why was there no retaliatory pogroms by the Hausa Fulani on the Anges tribe and the Christian middle belt on the murder of Murtala by Dimka and his fellow conspirators?
the case of 1966 involved people who only 10yrs ealier had voted for one-Nigeria against the wish of others. So it very hard to compare.

Let's reason together for a minute:
So the wailers and their hero Jonathan think Buhari is a thief but couldn't probe him while in power and instead fòølishly stole N2.1B out of arms fund to pay Dokpesi and co for a documentary against him and Tinubu.
On the other hand Buhari comes in without mentioning names or sponsoring documentaries and starts unearthing cases of theft of public funds.
I think the real thief here isn't Buhari because it would have been easier to nail him than resist his political advances with stolen arms money and all that propaganda since 2003.
