birdman: The Lakers are starting to look like the Celtics the year Garnett, Ray Allen and Pierce came together . That team was old, but they had a deep bench full of old, effective vets to complement the big 3.
For example Ariza reminds me of James Posey. Old but savvy vet coming off the bench, has length to play good D and knock down 3s.saved Doc rivers from heart attack many times They shouldnever have let Posey go the following year.
Just like that celtic team, which I liked a lot, Lakers are assembling skilled vets that haven't really fit elsewhere. Now that they let Dudley go, I am really interested to see who fills the last 2 or 3 spots.
I think Lakers front office have accepted that AD will have his usual injury, and Lebron will need load management. They want to build a team that can still win games and keep ahead of the packed west while the big 2 rest. Kevin Love is coming. Gasol could be leaving though. |

End of game. 81-73 to Nigeria. Not the cleanest of games. Too many turnovers, settling too much for jumpers, not guarding the paint well enough.
Emelogu 18 pts (6 made 3s) Domingo 16 pts Utomi 15 pts
We play Kenya next. |

Khanben: Everybody he guarded worked for every point they scored and always looked gassed at the end of game. Add that to his passable rebounding averages, and ability to warrant a defender when he spaces the floor on the offensive end, overall hustle, and you will find few players who fit that skillset, who can guard 2 through 5 (and bigger 1s). Finally he freed Giannis from being the primary defender on the opposition best wing defender on most possessions. This allowed Giannis to focus on help defense, both strong and weak side, and Giannis is arguably one of the best if not the best at playing help defense. PJ Tucker is a player who is good based on fit, he is like Tayshaun prince with the Detroit pistons and Ariza with the Lakers (difference is he is a better rebounder and Prince and Ariza are slightly better scoring). All you've basically said here is that he's a good piece to have on a good team. And I'm not disputing that. It's the way we make him seem like a specialist in one particular thing. He's not among the best rebounders for players his size. He's not the best defender as well. We saw the efficiency that Iguodala for instance caused LeBron to have in 2015. KD on the other hand averaged 35 points on 50% shooting on his head. AD averaged 25 on 60% shooting against him last season. So if you ask me, there's nothing stressful in getting buckets against PJ. Managers keep throwing him against oversized star players when the evidence is there that he doesn't do much against them. Always getting in foul trouble because there's no other way to stop his guys. And on offence he's almost a liability. KD was able to amass almost 11 rebounds against him because all he wanted to do was stand around in the corner and shoot 3s, and KD was more than willing to give him that. He brings a lot of energy to the team I give you that. |

Khanben: It is a good move, the Clippers seriously need a PG who can run the offense and play defense, which he can. Yes, he is a liability on offense during the playoffs because he chokes, but the Clippers don't need his scoring since they kept Reggie. I thought this was what Rondo was supposed to be for them? |

Khanben: He is not overrated, he knows his role and does it exceptionally well What exactly does he do exceptionally well? Who did he stop in the playoffs? KD? Everyone he guarded constantly put up historic performances. Or is it LeBron in 2020 against him? PJ is just a useful body, he's not a shutdown defender. He signed for the Heat for virtually the same amount he made with the Bucks. If the Bucks really wanted him don't you think they would have been willing to either match that salary or pay a bit more? He was expendable as far as the Bucks were concerned. |

Khanben: As things stand it seems the teams in the east has at long last caught up with those in the west in terms of overall conference strength. It can even be argued, that depending on how the chips fall with Philly, the east might have 3 of the best 4 teams. Maybe not overall talent but talent at the top. There are 5-6 teams that can stand toe to toe with the best teams in the west. But the bottom is where the weakness is glaring. The worst teams in the west can still boast of having all-stars or borderline all-stars, and could be making the playoffs if they were in the east. |

Obviously the judge must have ascertained that he makes more than just his NBA salary. There are other sources he could be making money from. And he still could appeal the ruling and pay less. |

benji93: Abeg no lie, It was in December 2020. . That stat you posted was in the regular season. Given that Bucks were very impressive in the regular season and underwhelming in the postseason, i would expect you to know better. Or perhaps let's put it another way, Holiday has been better when it matters most as Max would put it. . We remember what Holiday did to Dame in the 2018 western conference playoffs. This was why others opined he is better, even defensively. Going into the 2020/2021 season they had both been all defensive players twice, so the difference then comes when you factor in their pedigree in the palyoffs. 2020 or 2019, what does it matter? As long as I made it before the season started. We all know the Bucks meltdown was almost entirely due to Giannis. Role players will be role players. If your superstar doesn't show up there's little you can do. Smh. I like how you dey nitpick. Dey act like say Jrue dey turn Gary Payton for playoffs Sha, if Kyrie and Harden no get injury we for no dey even get this argument. Or even Trae. Trae wey drop 48 on top Jrue head. Trae that was averaging 32 before he got injured. Abeg leave me o. |

benji93: O yes English is one of my problems. It's not my tongue, as i would think is so for many other people on this platform. That being said rest assured I know just enough to communicate, and you may want to stop making statements like "You can tell us that English is your problem and we'll understand", it's not a helpful tactic, and you do not know who's on the other end. Some of us just overestimate our level of proficiency or sophistication. You clearly said it was like for like on defense, and this recent postseason has shown he's better, now how much anyone thinks he's better would certainly vary from one person to another. It's ok to admit it, you were wrong, and you could certainly avoid it all together, as you suggested in another post: "You are two days late". . That's also fine. And don't be too reactive, no be everything be fight now, my friend. Na you carry cutlass dey come attack me. I've told you that the only comparison I made concerning the two was on defense. And you brought that one as evidence even when it clearly implied that I was comparing their defense. As for whether Bledsoe or Jrue is better or not on defense, that was a very valid argument when I made it in 2019. Their accolades, as well as eye test, suggests that. Although it's OK to say that Jrue has since then gone on to be better on defense. But the simple truth is that Bucks were 1st on defense the last 2 years with Bledsoe (102.5 and 104.9). As soon as Jrue came in they relinquished that position to someone else, moving down to 9th (110.7). Make of that what you wish. |
