Members of the #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group, were on Thursday, prevented from gaining access into the presidential villa, Abuja. In commemoration of the two year anniversary of the abducted Chibok girls, the protesters embarked on a march to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari but they were cut short by police officers on the road leading to the villa. Speaking on the incident, leader of the BBOG group, Obiageli Ezekwesili described the action of the police as a reminder of the military era. Ezekwesili said the presidency had been informed of the procession of the group to the villa gate, where they were scheduled to deliver a message to the government. While expressing shock at the development, she maintained that the BBOG would deliver its message on the road in spite of the barricade. An Ibadan resident narrated a dramatic scene that played out a few days ago in the home of a man suspected to be a ritualist who planned to use his first born for money rituals. Below is how the eyewitness narrates the story. "There was pandemonium in Lasisi Apapa area of Total Garden, Ibadan, Oyo State, last night as a man simply called Baba David battered his wife after some heated arguments. Baba David, an obviously jobless man, who his wife claimed to be a doctor had come home that evening to announce that her sister would be getting married coming weekend, and that she should be ready to follow him to somewhere outside Ibadan. "The wife was not comfortable with the news, saying how could the sister be getting married, and they would only hear five days to the occasion, and that she suspected foul play. It was at this point the wife reminded him of what he said early this year that his friends were using their first children for money ritual, and that since that time she had decided to be very careful with him. Moreso, mama David claimed she had been noticing some ritualistic exercise the house. "It's of note to state here that, mama David's parents were not aware of her marriage to this man. In fact, her parents do not even know the man, neither do they know where she stays. In the course of the crossfire, Baba David openly said that nobody could ask her whereabout from him, and that he met her in a brothel in Ibadan, and she became pregnant for him and moved to his house. And they have one child, David. "For daring to say she would not follow him to the wedding, the man descended on her and beat her blue black. He flung the boy from staircase, and they both (mother and child) sustained serious bodily injuries. It was the cry of the woman that attracted the neighbors, one of who is a policeman. As the policeman attempted to rescue the woman, Baba David delved him a blow, and he had no choice than to call the patrol team who came to whisk him away to detention. "Even as he was being bundled away, Baba David was still boasting that when released he would make sure he killed his wife. One of the neighbors had to call the landlord, simply called Mr. shola, to ensure that the man is evicted from the environment. "To women Right Groups, I want to appeal that you come to the aid of this woman, because she's helpless, and this man is simply taking advantage of her. Contacts to this woman can be gotten from Yemetu Police Station, where the husband is being currently detained, or on request." This is the African king who leads two very contrasting lives – as a part-time monarch and a full-time mechanic. Dressed in all his royal finery, Céphas Bansah, helps to govern more than two million Ghanaian and Togolese people. But despite being regarded as a ‘superior and spiritual chief of Ewe people’ in Togo, he also works full-time mechanic in Germany – governing his people over Skype. Dressed in all his royal finery, Céphas Bansah, helps to govern more than two million Ghanaian and Togolese people Despite being regarded as a ‘superior and spiritual chief of Ewe people’ in Togo, he also works full-time mechanic in Germany – governing his people over Skype He now lives in Ludwigshafen with his wife Gabriele Bansah, 57 and his two children Carlo and Katharina, continuing his job as a mechanic and his role as King. Even though Ghana has a democratic system now, the traditional kings still have an important function within the communities as carers of their people. The 67-year-old’s official royal status is ‘King Togbe Ngoryifia Cephas Kosi Bansah’ – but he spends most of his time in oily overalls fixing cars. Céphas grew up in Ghana, he moved to Germany in 1970 before he was appointed king. His kingdom, Gbi in Eastern Ghana on the border of Togo, consists of 300,000 Ewe people. He originally moved to Germany when his grandfather, the then king, encouraged him to train there as a mechanic. After finishing his studies and gaining full citizenship, he settled and set up his own garage in Ludwigshafen. He continued living a peaceful life until 1987 – when he received a Fax which would change his life forever. His grandfather, the King of Hohoe, had died and Bansah’s father and eldest brother were deemed unfit to rule because they were left-handed, which the Ewe people considered to be ‘unclean’. This meant that Céphas was his grandfather’s successor, and the new king. He now lives in Ludwigshafen with his wife Gabriele Bansah, 57 and his two children Carlo and Katharina, continuing his job as a mechanic and his role as King. He uses Skype to govern his people and still visits Ghana up to eight times per year.In his role as king he also works on a number of aid projects including building schools and is currently raising money to build a women’s prison. To fund his aid projects, Céphas also sells his own beer, called Akosombo – even though he never drinks alcohol himself. A decision that has left many wondering what he wanted to achieve in school at such age. “I decided to go to school at this age because I perpetually feel the pain of being an illiterate in this modern world where everything has to do with English and education. I also do not want a situation whereby someone else would interprete or write for me if eventually I am chosen to hold an office in my community,” says 60 year old Adalabu Seribor. The JSS II student of Izon College, Bomadi- Overside in Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, who lost his mother at a tender age said though he was privileged to attend elementary school like some of his peers when he was taken to Ekeremor community in Bayelsa to stay with a relation, he however dropped out when he chose to return back to Bomadi due to the strict regime of his benefactor, a magistrate.
