Sunday, February 22, 2009 I got my fake Ife, UI, NYSC certificates for N350,000 By AKIN OYEDELE NOTHING in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Ingenuity will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." https://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/punch/images/pix200902223262429.jpg Ogunshola Had Olusola Ogunshola come across this wise saying of Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States of America, in his quest to earn a living through honest means, maybe he would have been singing a song different from the one he now sings at the headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command, where he is now cooling off. Born 51 years ago in Sagamu, Ogun State, Ogunshola said he had tried his hands on many things since he finished from Oke Ibadan Boys High School, Ibadan, in 1974. He was a petty trader, clergy, and fish farmer at different times in order to secure honest livelihood. He didn't have a major breakthrough, he said. In 1987, he said he struck an idea to travel abroad to seek the proverbial greener pasture, which landed him in trouble 21 years after. Legitimately, Ogunshola did not possess more than a school certificate, but he goes about parading himself as a lawyer and pastor to swindle unsuspecting members of the public. It will be difficult for anybody to believe that the Bachelor's of Law certificate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University); Master's of Law degree certificate of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan (which he 'bagged' even before the university began postgraduate degree in law); the National Youth Service Corps certificate; call to Bar certificate and the identity card of the Nigeria Bar Association, found in his possession, were forged. Not only that, the suspect confessed in an interview with our correspondent that he "stole" the stamp and letterhead of a law firm, S. O. Alli and Co. And to complete his bogus identity, he said he purchased a lawyer's wig and gown, with a shirt to match in Lagos, when he finally decided to pass for a lawyer. Before he was excommunicated when his deals became known to the church authority, Ogunshola was also a 'pastor' with the Global Harvest Church, where he 'cast and bound' the devil and its agents for several years. The official stamp of the church, a disused locally-made gun, two international passports and some fake certificates of occupancy were also among his haul. The Commissioner of Police at the state command, Mr. Bashiru Azeez, said that the suspect was nabbed over a N362,000 shady deal that went awry. Azeez said, "His cup became full when one of his victims reported that the transaction between them began on February 15, 2006 when the victim met the suspect at their church. "The victim had told him that he needed the services of a lawyer to verify the genuineness of a property in Lagos State, which was introduced to him for purchase and to process the certificate of occupancy in respect of the property. "To his enquiry, the suspect responded that he was a barrister and could render him the legal services. The victim was pleased at this development; that he had found a lawyer pastor in whom he could repose absolute trust." Pronto, the victim was said to have made available the sum charged by the 'lawyer' in order not to lose the property to other interested buyers. That became his undoing. Ogunshola went to work and before you could say Babatunde Fashola, he had produced a purported C of O and other legal documents on the property, which the CP said were later discovered to be forged. Had the suspect refunded the money, probably the victim would have kept this secret, but he began to dilly-dally, as months of unfulfilled promises turned to years. But on Thursday, Ogunshola cut the image of a pensive rogue, who having realised the gravity of his offence, would pose as a fowl beaten by the rain in his wig and robe. Asked how he came about the certificates found in his possession, he said that it was in 1987 when he was desperate to travel out of the country that he encountered one late Ishiaku, who procured the documents for him at a fee of N350,000. Before his accomplice died in an auto accident (if he was not being economical with the truth), he said he was in the process of securing a Canadian visa with his fake certificates. Asked why he needed to go to that extent to secure a visa, he claimed that the idea was that of his late accomplice to smoothen the process. His dream however vanished with the death of Ishiaku. His good command of English language notwithstanding, he said he could not further his education beyond secondary school due to lack of financial support from his struggling parents. His memory failed him when asked how he met the late accomplice and where. He said the death of his partner dealt him a devastating blow that he did not know how to pick up the pieces of his life, having lost his life savings from his petty trading to the ambition. Ogunshola insisted that he never defrauded his victim, who he identified as one Kayode Oresanya. Rather, he said that a link person that he contracted to secure the C of O from the Office of Surveyor General in Lagos "collected the money and ran away." He said, "I was no longer making use of the certificates. The police found them in my store. I never went to court or took a brief from anybody. I acquired those things when I wanted to travel abroad. When the Canada thing failed, Ishiaku still promised to help me before he died in an accident. I inherited the old gun they found in my house from my father. Go and check it very well, it is an old useless gun." In a rare display of 'honesty,' he said that he stole the S.O. Alli and Co. stamp and letterhead when he had an opportunity of being at the law firm when they were relocating to another office. His countenance dropped and he almost ended the interview when asked whether he was still a pastor, to which he declared "I will not answer that question." Asked why he could not venture into any neat business with N350,000 as far back as 1987, he said his ambition was to live big and do well with his family. Now he said he had put his wife and two kids in a quandary. Querying the rationale behind his arrest for a deal that was about three-years-old, he said he had already promised to refund the money to Oresanya before he (Oresanya) decided to invite the police. The suspect said that his income from his fish farming business could barely sustain him now, which explains why he told his victim to tarry a while. If given another opportunity, he said he would turn a new leaf now that he had realised the position of law on his activities. Hear him, "I feel frustrated with my life because of the serious setback I suffered when I could not travel abroad. I have repented. I regretted my action. I can't do it again. I was a petty trader at a point, but I thought my life will be better. Now, I know better." http://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/412.html |
She was sentenced before for a fine of N100k or 1 year imprisonment, I think. Isn't that ridiculous for someone that killed another because she was driving drunk? |

Manslaughter: Court sentences ex-beauty queen to five years By Tony Amokeodo https://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/23/punch/images/pix200804052281493.jpg Ibinabo JUSTICE Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos High Court has sentenced a former beauty queen and popular actress, Ms. Ibinabo Fiberesima, to five years imprisonment for manslaughter, involving the death of a medical doctor, Mr. Suraj Giwa. Delivering her judgment in an appeal by the Lagos State Government against the verdict of an Igbosere Magistrate's Court on Friday, Justice Oluwayemi held that the N100,000 fine imposed by the lower court on Fiberesima was tantamount to judicial recklessness. According to the judge, it is unreasonable for a magistrate to give an option of N100,000 fine to someone who has taken the life of another person through dangerous driving. The judge added that Section 28 of the Road Traffic Law, Cap R10 Laws of Lagos State, and 2003 on which the convict was found guilty, did not give an option of fine. Justice Oluwayemi held that the magistrate misdirected himself and might have been confused by the allocution (plea for leniency) by the lawyer to the convict that the ex-beauty queen was a working mother. She added that when the term of imprisonment was mandatory, the court could not change it. She said, "I hold that the magistrate exercised judicial recklessness in giving her option of fine when such is not contained in the traffic law. "I wonder why the magistrate regards N100,000 as an option for someone who caused the death of another person by dangerous driving. Discretion should be exercised judicially and not recklessly. "The nature of the offence is so grave that I do not know how he (the magistrate) came about with an option of fine. Justice is a three-way affair. "N100,000 fine is not a reasonable judgment for someone who has taken the life of another person. "I hereby set aside the judgment of the magistrate's court and impose five years imprisonment on the convict. "I also order that the N100,000 fine paid by the convict should not be returned to her." The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, had in 2005 charged Fiberesima to the Igbosere Magistrate's Court on a two-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving on the Epe Expressway, Lagos, that led to Giwa's death. In his judgment, Magistrate Isaacs found Fiberesima guilty on the two -count charge and sentenced her to seven years imprisonment for count one and two years imprisonment for counts two. The magistrate, however, gave the convict the option of paying N100,000 fine to regain her freedom. The ex-beauty queen reportedly paid the fine and was let off the hook. But the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), was dissatisfied with the sentence of Magistrate Isaacs and filed a notice of appeal at the Lagos High Court. The Lagos AG added that the magistrate's court had wrongfully exercised its discretion in a matter that attracts seven years' imprisonment without an option of fine. The Lagos AG, therefore, urged the court to set aside the lower court's verdict and give an appropriate sentence. But Fiberesima had in her statement of defence by her lawyer, Mr. Lanre Lambo, argued that the lower court had the opportunity to impartially observe her demeanour throughout the trial period before given her the option of fine. Meanwhile, Fiberesima's friend, also an actor, Mr. Fred Amata, has denied the conviction. Amata, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said he was not aware that his friend had been sentenced. Another source who described himself as her lawyer also denied the report. "The matter has currently gone beyond the High Court. It is not for the High Courts to decide as things stand now," he said. The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Ejike Asiegbu, when contacted, expressed surprise at the turn of events and promised to confirm the story. Fiberesima could not be reached as her phone was switched off most of the weekend. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/23/413.html |
I grew up with maids in my house, it would have been impossible otherwise. My mother works full time and so does my dad, there couldn't have been anything else to do but hire a maid as I am the only one.If you were the only child and she's good enough to be your cousin, why hire her in the first place to wash after you?. I mean, most working women that have multiple children use the number of kids at home as an excuse to snatch up a maid but one child alone at home can do with a companion and not a slave girl. Unless she baby sat you as an infant. |
boy and girl preference doesn't really matter to me, i would take anyone available and i see nothing wrong with having a house maid as long as they as equally treated with respect and work in a humane condition and they go to school too.@Sissy, How many women in Nigeria do this?. They claim to treat them equally but end up buying them knock off clothes, sending them to chemists for medical care and restocking her shelves with tissue papers for monthly periods. How many maids have you witnessed in Unilag at the end of the day unless the oga for house is too rich and powerful. Most men do wish to treat the house girls equally as their kids but their wives are usually the problem because they'll start accusing him of eying her in order to stop him from helping her. |
All working class married women need a house help but should not be treated like a slave!!! end of storyEven when they have teenage kids at home?. Why do you need a maid to wash and cook for you when you have children her age that can do the same? |
i smell hypocrisy here.Roflmao ![]() |
And since no 911 have been called on me, ever, this shows you that my "light beating" is yelling or gesturing of displeasure. Man, real man wear beard and don't beat his wife/wives! While you have shown anger at 9, my women; mother, sisters, nieces, cousins and yes my wives do not have my hands on them. Why is the story different among Arabs living in the Arab world that is supposed to be the spiritual capital of Islam? |
i'm from the southwest so i know little or nothing of the igbo culture. could someone tell me about dowry and requirements for marrying a igbo girl who is the first daughter, tanxAre you planning to marry igbo woman with all these women everywhere in yorubaland?. What did you find in her that you couldn't find in a yoruba woman? |
People have a right to know if their public servants are fit for work. privates Cheney's battle with heart disease is no secret nor did when George Bush fall from a bike. |
If you have too many children give some away hisssssssWouldn't that be turning them into another woman's house boy or girl?. The solution is not to have too many kids. If you've made the mistake already, God's speed. I am not totally against house helps, just hire them professionally and deal with ones that are not minors. I don't see nothing wrong in hiring a 22 year old girl as a governess. |
Madam koko up there, we will appreciate it if you don't call her house maidWhat will she call her?; House mistress? ![]() |
Then what I heard was right. "Light beating" for a fellow human? So when the men are wrong who carries out the light beating? You may wait forever for the answer to your question. |
@postBecause they are not state of the art enough to cure his disease. |
Some of you are very wrong! House maid/house boy does not have to be bought/kidnap. My house girl is working with the full consent of her parent; she attends a school and she's like family to everyone in my family. Altghouh I've hire one maid before who brings in boyfriends to our house in our absenceWe know you didn't kidnap them but why enslave them?. Did you see the woman that boasts of snatching them off at a certain age and laying them off at 16. The least she could do is to finance her education. Others claim Eguns and Calabars are very good in slavery, wtf? |
And the annoying part is that they wear it like a badge of honour too, bunch of mofos showing off and collecting house helps like they are collecting trophies Undecided It is sickening and an embarassmentThank you. |
MRS. RAIMOT ABDULFATAHVery disturbing attitude, I must say. Are they slaves that can be hired and kicked out any minute? |
House boy or house maid? By GIDEON OPARINDE [08076616717 tomgidops@yahoo.com] Sunday, February 22, 2009 SADE OMOKUNGA I’ll prefer a female because my children would be able to adapt to her and for security reasons. It’s easier to control a girl than a boy. Girls are more interested in domestic chores but for safer measures I think I would change them before they start thinking of something funny. https://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/sun/Omokunga-wiveslive.jpg Omokunga MRS. AYENI I will go for a male house servant, yes. He should be in between thirteen and sixteen years of age. I believe he wouldn’t cause a greater havoc like a female house servant. Men are more responsible when it comes to things like this. Having a female housemaid is like placing a public advert for your husband that he needs another wife in the home. These girls of today are dangerous, lack morals and could do anything to push you out of your matrimonial home if they have the chance. I knew of a woman whose twenty three year old house maid sent packing from her matrimonial home; that is to say these girls need serious supervision and as the wife I wouldn’t give them assignments that will take them to my bed-room or have access to my husband because, it could lead to something else, especially when I’m not around. OMOBOLANLE ENIGBOKAN I would prefer a male house help to a female because they are stronger in house chores. Secondly, they don’t gossip like the girls would do. For example there are two tribes who are well respected when it comes to diligence and hard work, they are the calabars and the ‘Egun’, from Badagry; these people are very strong and well cultured. Ladies would only snatch your husband from you, steal your belongings, maltreat your children, gossip and do everything to frustrate your effort to make her responsible and obedient in the home. Some of these female house helps have stolen their mistresses clothes, money before they eventually abscond from home. MRS. OSONDU Anyway, there’s no gender specification but on strict conditions, If I am to go for a house girl, there’s no problem; what will happen is this, I will make sure the girl is not above fourteen and at least ten years of age. But once the girl you employed is mature, I’m telling you authoritatively that you are toying with your marriage and family. For example, you know men are easily moved by what they see; they are weaker vessels when it comes to this, especially when we talk about young and good looking ladies of this generation. Do you know your house maid could tempt your husband to do what he never had in mind if you aren’t strict with your home? If you toy with your duties at home you will live to ever regret it in life. On the other hand, nothing stops me from having a male house help. He must also be a young boy too. But as-soon-as he attains puberty age, I will pay him off, get him something better that would earn him a living and allow him plan his life. Mature male house helps are sometimes dangerous in the home. We have heard cases where they rape their master’s daughters, impregnate them, rape their mistress, cart away valuables in the home and even conniving with armed robbers to cause havoc and doing more worse like killing their masters. They are in fact more dangerous than the female counterparts. MRS. BOLANLE OSHOFO In my own opinion, I would go for a male house help because, in terms of house chores they are hardworking, more reliable than the female ones. You can count on them when you aren’t around, perhaps when you travel. They have more fear for their bosses and are truly more friendly to their bosses’ children than females who, only gossip and engage in treacherous acts with their mistresses’ husbands. TOSIN OLORUNISOLA I would go for a young girl of below 10 years of age. This girl shouldn’t be from my tribe. Females, I believe could take care of the home, they have attributes of motherly care compared to the male counterparts. But one thing stands out, no matter how dutiful the girl is, she is restricted to washing my husband’s clothes or working in my room. A male house help stands a greater chance of corrupting my daughters, especially when I’m the busy type. MRS. RAIMOT ABDULFATAH I’d rather prefer a girl of age 10 to 12 because they could be controlled and sent on errand, and I’ll replace her as-soon-as she attains age 16 and above. I’ll make sure I change her because it’s dangerous to keep a girl of such age at home without proper supervision, knowing fully well the nature of your job. I am sure no woman‘ll wants to lose her home to a cheap small girl or a house maid no matter how bad or irresponsible the man may be. No one can predict what they could do, they could be dangerous. (Both Boys and Girls) some of them are demon possessed, to the extent of bewitching one’s child. But I know it takes the grace of God to get the right ones. MRS. AJIBOLA As for me, I don’t need any, because if I should go for a boy, I have grown up girls at home, vise-versa. I don’t want anybody to corrupt my children in whatever way. I can do the house chores myself and if it is too much for me, my children will assist me. BRIDGET I will like a mature and responsible lady because she will be more industrious and able to take care of the children in my absence. I won’t take a young lady so that my husband will still remain mine. VIVIAN ALORE I don’t need a house maid neither a house boy. I wouldn’t pay for what eventually, could break my home all in the name of civilization or wanting to show off. Like-wise I wouldn’t keep any relation in my home, whether male or female, it is no much different. No, I will do all my house chores myself. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/510.html |

Bauchi boils: Soldiers parade streets • Churches, mosques burnt • Four dead, 30 injured - Curfew imposed Ishola Michael, and Isaac Shobayo Bauchi Sunday, February 22, 2009 Following a civil disturbance that almost turned religious in Morocco area of Bauchi metropolis which was said to have claimed four lives on Saturday, the Federal Government has directed the deployment of military personnel in major streets of the metropolis . https://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/tribune/images/1.jpg A scene of the Bauchi crisis. The State Governor, Isa Yuguda has however expressed shock over the incidence describing it as most unfortunate. The Red Cross later confirmed four dead and 30 injured. An indefinite curfew has also been placed on the affected areas. Reports had it that trouble started following the action of some youths who denied a sect of Moslems from observing the weekly Juma’at prayers due to what was said to be opposition to the siting of the said Mosque in the area while security report on the matter was alleged to have been ignored. Another report had it that youths of the area sensing that there will be problem, rose in defense of their properties, a development which was said to have led to what was seen as reprisal attack. This was promptly doused however, by the few security operatives that were deployed to the area. At about 11 p.m. on Friday some yet to be identified people were said to have set the Mosque in question ablaze, a development which was said to have also led to the torching of a part of the building of COCIN Church in the area at about 2.30 a.m. Saturday thereby escalating the situation beyond what the few security personnel could handle. Sunday Tribune gathered that two people were burnt beyond recognition on the Railway road while a number of houses and cars were either torched or smashed including that of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Babayo Garba Gamawa who was on his way to the area for on an-the-spot assessment. While reacting to the incident, Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda described it as politically motivated because, according to him, the people of the area have been living peacefully with one another over the years and so could not see the reason why they would take up arms against one another. He however called on the people affected to see reason and live harmoniously together. Isa Yuguda in a statewide broadcast appealed for calm as, according to him, government has taken steps to protect lives and property of the people declaring that, already, the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Umar Musa Yar’Adua has directed the immediate deployment of military personnel to the troubled area as well as other major streets of the metropolis in order to forestall the spreading of the crisis to other parts of the town. He declared that anyone caught to have had a hand in the crisis will be dealt with accordingly. In their respective calls, the Bauchi State chapter of CAN through the Chairman, Musa Tula called on all Christians in the state to remain calm and continue to pray to God to avert future occurrence while also consoling all those who might have lost one thing or the other saying that they should leave everything to God as government, according to him, has assured that it will do everything possible to protect lives and properties of the people of the state. On behalf of the Moslem Ummah, the Chief Imam of ATBU Juma’at Mosque, Idris Aliyu Ibrahim Pantami warned Moslems against rumour mongering, which he said, escalates such crisis reminding them also that the Islamic religion does not preach violence but tolerance and harmonious living with both Moslems and non-Moslems around them. Also, the Chief Imam of Bauchi Central Mosque, Bala Baba Inna indicted the security agencies for ignoring what he described as rumour of an impending crisis because, according to him, “we have been hearing of something like this since last week and nothing was done to avert it. It is very unfortunate, we hope that Allah will put a stop to this in our state.” The State Police Command PPRO, Mohammed Barau in a telephone interview confirmed the crisis but declined to reveal the number of deaths or persons injured saying that he with other superior officers have gone round to monitor the situation declaring that normalcy has returned while security surveillance has been beefed up across the state to avert reprisals. As at the time of this report, many people both Christians and Moslems who fled their various homes were still taking refuge at the Shadawanka Army Barracks as well as other security places in Bauchi. Meanwhile, following the outbreak of ethno-religious crisis in Bauchi State, security has been beefed up in Jos and its environs, even as the State Deputy Commissioner of Police declared that there was no plan to withdraw security men from the streets of Jos. Sunday Tribune findings revealed that a combined team of the police and soldiers have continued to intensify patrol of the city and the checking of vehicles coming in and going out of the state capital over the development in neighbouring Bauchi State. Speaking with journalists on Saturday, the State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adams Audu strongly condemned the insinuation making round that the police in conjunction with the police have concluded arrangement to withdraw from the streets of Jos by the end of this month. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/608.html |
Sunday, February 22, 2009 Printer Friendly Version Gunmen kill 13 footballers, supporters in Delta By Sola Adebayo and Olamilekan Lartey Thirteen footballers and their supporters were on Friday evening murdered by some unknown gunmen in yet unclear circumstances near Ughelli, Delta State . advertisement Sunday Punch learnt that seven others sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries during the incident which the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Restore Hope and Delta State Police Command were still trying to unravel as at press time on Saturday evening. It was gathered that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue of a medical centre in Ughelli while the injured were receiving medical attention at the same hospital. The Commander of JTF, Brig.-Gen. Wuyep Rimtip and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Joshua Oshiomogor, who confirmed the incident, described it as a mystery. The deceased identified as footballers and supporters of Ocean Boys Football Club in Bayelsa State, were said to be travelling for a football match slated for Sunday in Ughelli before they were ambushed by the assailants at Uvweru community, near Ughelli in Delta State. The Chief of Staff to the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Sam Ugbuku, who spoke from the scene of the incident, confirmed seven bodies had been deposited at a mortuary in Ughelli, Delta State . Ugbuku said he had already gone to the General Hospital in Ughelli to make arrangements for blood transfusions for the injured people that had been rushed to the hospital. At the Yenagoa club house of the team, the imposing building on the usually busy Imgbi Road was deserted as all the supporters and back up players had deserted the hostel for safety. Sunday Punch gathered that clash between rival cult gangs had started on Friday night when a member of the supporters club belonging to one of the rival gangs was shot dead around 8pm in the Opolo area of the state capital. Later in the night, there was a reprisal attack at the popular night club in Kpansia, where another person was killed. Several cars were riddled with bullets in the attack that took place shortly after midnight. Survivors identified a black four-wheel drive vehicle in the attack. Sunday Punch findings revealed that the gun battle at the night club extended to the supporters who were on their way to Ughelli for a match involving their club on Saturday afternoon. Survivors said the Infiniti SUV car that the gunmen used at the night club incident was the same jeep from which armed men opened fire on the supporters at a village called Uwhru, near Ughelli. A source, who pleaded anonymity for safety reasons, said Ocean Boys who were members of the cult gang Green Landers, were attacked in a revenge attack by their rivals in the Icelanders over the incident on Friday night in Yenagoa. There was gloom in the state capital as it was not yet clear how many of the supporters of the football cubs survived the violent attack. Reliable sources in JTF and the Delta State Police Command told our correspondents that the unidentified gunmen, who emerged from the bush along the East/West Road, forced the bus conveying the footballers and their fans to stop a few kilometres to their destination in Ughelli. The security sources stated that the gunmen, who were apparently aware of the vehicle and the identities of its occupants, instantly opened fire on them. Sources further revealed that the gunmen, who operated unhindered along the ever-busy highway, disappeared from the scene apparently after they wreaked maximum havoc on their victims. Some motorists thereafter alerted the policemen operating at a nearby check-point on the sad development. Information on the incident was sketchy from security sources as at 6pm on Saturday. Rimtip and Oshiomogor said their men were on the fields to ascertain the masterminds of the unwholesome act and their motive. The security chiefs, who described the incident as unfortunate and inhuman, said they were unable to establish the reason for the gruesome murder as at Saturday evening. They expressed optimism that fresh facts might emerge on the incident before Sunday. However, unofficial security sources told Sunday Punch that the incident might be a reprisal attack by a rival team and their supporters. The source stated, "There was a scuffle between the players and supporters of Ocean Boys and another team based in Bayelsa State (name withheld) on Friday. One of the supporters of the other team was killed in the fracas. "The players and supporters of the team were said to be aggrieved by the killing and it was learnt that they vowed to avenge the killing. The security agencies are looking into that possibility but it is too early to draw conclusion yet. "We (security agencies) are looking at the direction of the team because of the killing of its fan but that is not the only possibility. We are also looking beyond the team because it cannot be explained that a rival team would mobilise heavily to eliminate another team just because of a misunderstanding after a football match in which one football fan was killed. "Thirteen persons, identified as players and supporters were killed in the Friday's incident and seven others sustained serious gunshot injuries. The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue of a hospital in Ughelli. Those who sustained injuries are also receiving treatment in the hospital. "We are going to unravel the mystery. It is a novel approach in criminality. That some gunmen would just stop a bus and shoot everybody inside it. The detectives have swung into action and we are going to get to the root of it," added a police source, who craved anonymity. The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Mr. Charles Muka, said police had begun investigations into the incident. He said the CP had detailed the Divisional Police Officer in Ughelli to unravel the mysterious incident. Rimtip also added that his men were on top of the matter. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/22/413.html |
German doctors hands off Yar'Adua A thick cloud of uncertainty may have enveloped the health status of Nigerian President, Mr. Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, as his German medical consultants have, allegedly, “thrown in the towel because the man is already over wired as a result of past surgeries”. Yesterday, the President did not perform any state function as expected according to Aso Rock insiders. Rather, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan who has been receiving unprecedented cooperation from Yar’Adua’s aides presided over state matters. No official reason was given for Yar’Adua’s absence. This is coming on the heels of reports that President Yar’Adua, “again slumped into coma” at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, penultimate Saturday before resuming from his two weeks break. Yar’Adua, who is said to have “ingenious ideas” on how to lead Africa’s most populous nation, has his poor health standing between him and his vision of “social and political re-engineering. The Nigerian leader is said to be living almost exclusively on a diet of pigeons allegedly prescribed by his band of marabouts as possible cure for his many ailments which includes Churg Straus Syndrome, an alleged lung cancer and kidney related disease. He was said to have been removed and flown to Lagos. He was said to have been revived at Pastor T.B. Joshua’s Synagogue church in Lagos. But sources close to Pastor Joshua denied that President Yar’Adua was ever brought to the miracle center. The synagogue source said “yes Pastor Joshua was not here last weekend, neither was Yar’Adua brought here. They may have met elsewhere I wouldn’t know, what your asking me is new to me.” An Aso Rock source confirmed that indeed Pastor TB Joshua has been consulted while all other marabouts have been relegated to the background at least for now. While every needed “state of the art equipment have been flown in to Nigeria, pointblanknews.com gathered that it is not likely that the German doctors would want to continue with further treatment. The usual impeccable source said that “some American experts may have taken over the treatment of the president.” When Yar’Adua returned to the presidential villa at the beginning of the week, there was no reporter or photo journalist from independent media companies on hand, rather his official photographers were hurriedly called in, the president still looking gaunt and frail was propped up for a photo-up which was circulated to demonstrate that he remained in good health and always good to call the shot. http://news.onlinenigeria.com/templates/?a=469&z=12 |

Many of these money laundering outfits called banks will close shop by the end of the year, they are not as robust as they always make us think. They are just trying to rub shoulders with successful pastors but what they don't know is the pastors economy is direct from God and not dependent of the current economic situation of the world. |
