Nairaland GeneralRe: What's Your Advice To Help.. Mom Is In Detention. by StoneColdBiceps(m): 1:36pm On Feb 07, 2015
chocolateme:
With heavy heart, I narrate to you how my mom ended up in SARS custody till today. I may not be able to give every single detail of what happened but please feel my pain and give me your opinion and advice. It may be a bit long but please bear with me.

My parents stay at Anambra but I and my sister stay in Lagos due to our job, I called my mom on Wednesday last 2 days but her number was switched off and I called dad who said mom's phone is broken and that they will call us back when he gets to the house. Ok they never called, yesterday. The same excuses, I asked him if there is any problem, he replied ''no''.

Suddenly by 5.30 this morning he called that we should open the gate for him, meaning that he came to Lagos on night bus. We were surprised, though not that surprised because he is meant to leave for China tomorrow for business.

He opened up this morning that on Wednesday around 5am, their house help woke up to go and switch on the sumo to pump water and saw about five men jumping into our compound through the fence, she ran to their room and woke them, they started hearing loud bangs on the gate from outside and on the iron door entrance to our house. They later realized it was the police but SARS.

Before now, we had business setback and loaned around 2.8m from the bank, (3 years now to be precise). I don't know how they calculated the interest but last year they refused to accept the loan amount first so we can be paying the interest in instalments. So now it accumulated, my dad said the bank said its 7m that we shall pay and even one of our shops that was used as collateral wasn't moving well due to location so it was rented out but it is still my day's property and the local government has its evidence of existence and ownership. The loan was collected by my mom via my dad's signature and paper, they run different lines of businesses and both travels too.

It was the bank that sent them that morning, knowing that it will be very difficult to make contacts to alleviate the situation if they arrest my dad, my mom decided that dad hides so she could speak with them. My dad went up to our penthouse. They ransacked every where in the house and did not see him, one of them noticed the penthouse and went up threatening to break the door ( they were 8 in number). My mom told them that she is the one that got the loan not her husband, that she will go with them to their office.

She changed into her clothes and they took her away till today, my dad has been trying all possible best to bail her through the lawyer but its hard, then they started trailing my dad. The lawyer advised him to leave the state because it will be worst if they catch him and if they catch him, he should forget about traveling or access to make contact while in detention. Secondly it is really important for him to travel as his flight has been booked, since today, so much efforts have been put in to bail her but to no avail, the top ranked police officer has put a call through from Abuja but yet nothing. I don't know how much the SARS were paid.

They went with the shop's original documents and the lawyer today to the shop and the Manager ended up rejecting it after evaluation with reasons that it will not fetch them seven million, its harder because the former bank manager just retired and this is a new manger. The lawyer wanted to file a court case but the NBA Anambra is still on strike that's why it's difficult to bail her.

Her BP is fast going out of hand and she has refused to eat since Wednesday only water. My brother with the lawyer has taken her drugs to her, the lawyer has decided that by Monday, they file the case on Federal high court and that way, they will grant her bail. Everyone is panicking, I don't understand and I don't know but we all unanimously accept that dad should not go there. Though so far, he is getting help from his contacts, but what I know is that the amount 7m is unacceptable. I feel it's unfair to jump into our private property through the fence as if they were coming to catch a criminal, the Manager has turned deaf ear to everybody's plea to grant mom bail on her health status. Well that's all I understand for now, so she will stay there till Monday again,
I don't even know what to do to help. Do you have anything helpful as per advice so we see if she can be released before Monday? Monday sef is too far. My dad is so pale now and is refusing to eat too.
Eeyah soory dear, but dis is not soppose to get to dis extent. From my experience as a credit risk analyst in a bank, any deliquent/bad/loss loan has a way of recovery. U said its like 3 years so dat is classified "loss" according to cbn prudential guidline. Wat d bank do here is to appoint a recovery agent to act on dia behalf to recover d bad loan. 2.8Million s still on a low side to warrant all dis swat action in ur dads compound! D revovery agent stand to get 10% frm d revovery. Ur family can get a good lawyer to sue on dat action. Frm my experience as a credit risk officer in my bank, wat i'll advice ur dad do is his lawyer should write to d bank for concession or restructure of d loan. His lawyer shld plead dat bizness is bad dats why ur mum cldnt repay d loan. Dat d bank should give concession or waiver of paying just d 2.8M. D resultant 7M is as a result of debit interest accruals/accumulation frm d point d account went into debit. In banking accounting principle, everyday ur account goes into debit dia is debit interest against it so its unhealthy! So ur dads lawyer sld plead to cancel all d accumulated debit interest and interest element tide to d loan and just pay only d principal loan. Ur dads lawyer shld beg d bank to stop interest on d account so dat ur dad can effect credit swings. All dis plea above is done/granted by all banks, dey will approve ur dads plea. After all these, d bank will invite or write ur dad on d restructure/concession. Ur dad shld promise on a monthly payment or lump payment till he settles everyting. If u guys have money just settle it onze and for all....except ur mum/dad did sometin more atrouciouse, because i wonder why SARS will bé involved to d extent of jumping d fence into ur compound to make arrest.Sorry dear take hearth. Feel free to ask any questions...

RomanceRe: The Wedding Jollof Rice Finished After I Paid For Asoebi by StoneColdBiceps(m): 4:12pm On Jan 25, 2015
Naijasinglegirl:
They told us Lilian's groom-to-be was one of those wealthy Mobil workers.
"My best friend's wedding would be the talk of town." Lilian's chief bridesmaid bragged.

All the big girls in school heard that and ran to queue for her expensive asoebi.
Rumours also had it the groomsmen were representatives of different oil companies. The best caterers in town had been hired for the wedding. I hurriedly used my hard earned money to buy 3 yards of her asoebi when I heard that.

Back then, I was a 400level student and working on my project took a toll on me. The wedding date escaped my memory because I was too busy to catch up with my girls for random gist. It didn't occur to me that Lilian's wedding was in 4 days time until my friend stormed my hostel with her already sewn asoebi.
Between requesting an express service from a tailor or making my hair, I settled for the later. When I saw the girls in my hostel looking good in their asoebi that Saturday morning, I had to cut a piece from my 3 yards to stylishly strut around the shoulder of my yellow dress so I wouldn't feel odd amongst them.

Let me make something clear at this point. Whenever I attend a wedding, Either or all of these four things take me there.
1. The people attending. E.g Lilian's chevron, shell and mobil groomsmen.
2. The excitement of the photos I'll take. This depends on how beautiful my hair or dress is.
3. My relationship with the couple. If you are family, I might grudgingly attend the church ceremony. Reason being, I unconsciously memorise marriage vows and that is one hell of an information that is completely worthless to me. If you are my distant friend, I'll attend your reception for no4 only.
4. THE WEDDING FOOD.

Its easy to tell no1 and no4 were taking me to Lilian's.
The problem was the venue for the matrimonial service and reception were one and the same place. It was difficult to reckon when the oil workers groomsmen would be outside briefly for photos before the reception starts and when refreshments would begin.
Good thing I bullied my two friends into affirming the wedding food was our utmost priority so we all waited till 1pm before leaving the hostel.
Surprisingly, the couple were yet to recite their marriage vows when we arrived at 2pm.
Fine! One more annoying marriage vow to memorise. I cursed silently.

It was almost 4pm and the matrimonial ceremony was still going on. There was nothing spectacular at the wedding as those in Lilian circle made us believe. Even some of the so-called oil workers looked more like fillings stations attendants. The pastor had diverted from the usual Adam and Eve story to preach on fornication. I cringed in my seat as I glanced at my wristwatch and the programme booklet for the umpteenth time. My friend whispered that its because Lilian was four months pregnant outside wedlock.

My impatience state had me lamenting, ''But pastor do our stomachs really have to pay for the sins of the couple?''

My sigh was audible when the reception finally began. We couldn't leave the hall to take photos with the couple for fear that we might lose our seats.
Due to the poor timing, they had to rush most of the items listed in the programme.

We were told to form a queue beside each canopy for the buffet. It seemed like we were not the only ones waiting for food as the whole place was thrown into a pandemonium.
Nigerians sure don’t know how to queue up for a buffet. They jump in line, push whoever is in the way and makes sure those serving attend to them before anyone else. I felt like stabbing the restless guy in front of me with the heel of my shoe or strangling him with the piece of aseobi on my shoulder.

My friends and I were among the first 20 in our queue but my joy was cut short when the MC instructed we all head back to our seats. The ushers were going to serve us there.

The new directive messed everything up. Some people had already gotten food at the buffet, some got food twice while some didn't and it was difficult to tell where they sat.
The ushers were not helping matters by serving in a scalar manner.

One of my friends got first. Fifteen minutes after, the second one got hers. Thirty minutes after, nothing for me yet.
Both of them were now giving each other that 'eeyah... I pity Naijasinglegirl sha' look. Occasionally they would glance at me and give me that 'sister, relax, you will eat in Jesus name' look.

"Should I remain my food for you?" One of my friend asked.

"NO!" I voiced out in anger.

Didn't know who to pour my frustration on. From the back row I sat, I tried to eye the bride with disgust but she wouldn't even look at me. I thought of taking off the small piece of asoebi from my neck to wave at her. After paying for your asoebi, no food abi? 419 wedding!

One of my 'bellyfull' friends had the guts to suggest we head outside to wait for the mobil groomsmen. How can I listen to any man on an empty stomach? I abused her with all the curses and swear words I learnt since 1914.
As the immigration officer of our  3- female clique, both of them had absolutely no right to go out without me. At that point only the wedding jollof rice mattered. LoL

Reality set in when people started leaving. Typically of Nigerian ceremonies, once they eat, they dump your ass there and then! Even the couple finished their 'feeding of the couple stuff' and they no longer gave a hoot about their guests...including me.

You've got to me strong gurllllll... You've seen worse. Don't dare cry. I consoled myself.

I was too preoccupied with hunger to notice my friend had gone over to the catering section to complain on my behalf.
Whatever she told them worked as one of them was seen heading towards my direction with a tray.

"Errrmmm...sorry oh. You should have struggled for food na. There's rice here but the chicken and meat we have left has been packed away by the bride's relatives. Would you mind the rice only?"

Emi? Eat leftover rice? I may be a beggar but I am a beggar with class and a damn good choice.

"Let's leave please." I motioned to my friends tearfully. I could sense a violent ulcer attack ready to strike me.
My friends began consoling me.
"Don't worry, we would try to seat at the front when next we attend a wedding."

"There won't be any next time!" I retorted angrily.

Maybe they've been, but that was the last time I wasted money on asoebi's that couldn't guarantee me trival benefits like the wedding jollof rice.
Nice story sha. Like seriousely....chop for house or buy food and eat before going to weddings to avoid avoidable starvation...as in, eat well well befr u go party.
So i happen to bé a committee of friends for a friends yoruba wedding, after i used my cloth to dust d floor by purstrating here and there and emptied my pocket for all those their petty petty cunning taxing and wit my tommy rumbling of hunger. I went outside d hall to atleast grab grub frm d husshers, those ones too are lookin face befr dey give food sha, use food pass me to familia faces. To cut long story shot, i ddnt eat at dat wedding. So i just form big boy chill wit my guys like say noting do me. Later i just go one fastfood go help mysef je je.

SportsRe: The Truth About The Early 1900s Nigeria Vs India Match (1 - 99)!!! (photo) by StoneColdBiceps(m): 11:41am On Jan 15, 2015
smartfellow2080:
Virtually everybody born before the invention of the internet must have heard the tale of a nonexistent football match between Nigeria and India grin that obviously took place in a parallel universe and somehow we got to hear the gory stories of that match.

Though there are many variations of the story, every prevaricator seems to agree on a couple of facts about this fictional football match. Each storyteller agrees that;

1. This match ended with India scoring 99 goals and Nigeria scoring just one goal.

2. Nigerians where unable to kick the ball because the football kept turning to a lion (or something scary) to prevent them from playing the soccer ball.

3. The Indians later agreed that if Nigeria could score a goal, they would concede defeat

4. Samuel Okwaraji scored the winning goal and lost his life in the process.

5. FIFA banned India from soccer because they used black magic in that very game

With the help of common sense (not that it was absent back then), quick access to information and the internet, every right thinking Nigerian has come to realise that such a story should be filled under “Blatant Lies”.

Why Did This Story Thrive For So Long?

Most people like to pass off this story as true with the fact that no one has ever seen India in an International Football Match. Since no one actually saw India participate in most international soccer games, this gave a little credence to the story.

Another reason this lie could thrive for long was the fact that credible information was not readily available at our finger tips. It not like every Emeka, Audu and Ojo could visit Google in a matter of minutes and tell our ominous fabricators that they should stop spreading toxic lies.

And to be honest we have a tingling feeling that this lie was concocted by an elder of a community because, let’s be honest who questions the words of the elders in Nigeria. Remember, what an adult sees sitting down a child will never see even if he consults Google, Siri or Cortana.

The Element of Truth In This Story

On the 12th of August 1989, Nigeria lost Sam Okwaraji.

Sam Okwaraji was the player rumored to have lost his life in that game when in truth he died during a FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Angola in the 77th minute.

He collapsed and died of cognitive heart failure. May his soul rest in Perfect Peace. AMEN

So that is the only truthful thing about that story, the fact that a Nigerian player died during a football match. That’s it. The match was not against India, we did not lose the match and as you must have guessed, and there were no lions either.

Nairlanders, what do you think?
Op its not okwaraji dat scored d goal. It was thunder balogun! Having known dat india is using juju, he was with the ball playing and on reaching close to the post he saw lions as goal keeper and he ran and left the ball...this happened again and dis time on reaching the post with the ball, he unlace his booth and shoot the ball to score, his booth came off and the indian keeper was confused and caught his flying booth while the ball entered the net! Thats how nigeria scored 1 goal in the match...hehehehehehe very funneh.

Nairaland GeneralRe: 225 Hours Of Power Supply In Ten Days! by StoneColdBiceps(m): 2:33pm On Jan 02, 2015
malachytochukwu:
I am based in Portharcourt, Rivers State, I am greatly surprised that there could be 24hrs of power supply in this country. Even in Transamadi where I stay, we hardly have power supply for 12hrs at a stretch! Here is different! We all complain when there is no power supply and I feel it will not be wise enough to keep queit now we have been having light 24hrs/day consecutively for 8days except for on the 30th that power supply was ceased for few hours. You may be wondering where in Nigeria this great thing is happening. It is in a village called Obollo Nkwo in Udenu LGA of Enugu State. I wish there could be a way to prove this claim, unfortunately, there isn't any. I am sorry but that's the truth. I hope there has been an improvement inpower supply in other parts of this great nation, especially where you are. May God bless whoever is responsible for this and may he/she encounter constant supply of God's blessing through out 2015. I wish you constant power supply too if you are not having one currently. Hit like if there has been an improvement in power supply in your area.
Bro i feel u. My brother just came back fron otukpo Benue state and he said thesame thing aw light is very stable there. Dey do give dem light for 22-23 hrs a day-dis is no joke!

He came back to Lag and was plunged into d regular darkness.

I think dis light issue is problem of big cities like lagos or maybe Abuja but other states do have regular power supplies.

RomanceRe: How Long Did You Wait Before She Gave You A “YES”? by StoneColdBiceps(m): 5:12pm On Dec 31, 2014
Olutola88:
It is a popular belief amongst women that a Lady needs to give a guy a tough time before she dances to his beats. They claim such delay tactics is healthy as it will make the guy cherish her more. They also claim that the guy would appreciate better something he sweats to get.

Sincerely speaking, this their ideology is absolute trash to me. I don't have that time to be chasing a lady for 12 months, after all she isn't my “dream”.

I get easily discouraged when it comes to convincing a lady to be mine, maybe because I don't feel a lady is doing me a favour by accepting to be mine. Come to think it, “Is she doing me any favour”? Don't even talk about sex cos it's very cheap and I can get it without dating. More so, she won't be doing me any good because she might even enjoy it more ( I always put my partner's satisfaction first).

I get sick and tired when a lady gives me unnecessary tough time. In fact, most of them call me “Egotistical”. They think I'm proud because my orientation is different from that of most guys they've met. They feel I'm cocky because they don't know my background, they have no idea about my journey so far.

I've had just 3 Girlfriends all my life. The first, I didn't woo her. The second gave me a YES after 24hours and the third which was the most tasking accepted to be mine after 4days of declaring interest. Guess what? I had the shortest relationship with the one that gave me the toughest time, it lasted just 2 months.

I've been single since December 2012 mainly because I don't have that strength to keep pushing and pushing. Most of them tell me that I'm spoilt and that I don't even know how to woo *lmao*. They claim I'm always too casual when wooing them, they say I don't show sign of seriousness, they conclude I always feel I shouldn't work too hard to get them. Do they want me to kill cow to show my seriousness? Nevertheless, I feel I've not just met that person that'll make me break the rules, that one person that'll make my heart do giz giz, that person that'll have my “mumu button” *lol*.

You know the funniest thing? The ones you don't wanna date are the ones always stalking and readily available. As a good guy, you don't wanna woo dem, use dem and dump them. So, nigga just keeps it at the Friends With Benefits level. When you get tired of the FWB life and seek love again, you'll meet one girl that'll be giving you unnecessary tough time and you'll be like... “WTF! Some girls are praying I upgrade their status from FWB to official Girlfriend and this one is here forming one rubbish! Go To Hell jooor” *LMAO*

My Questions:

1. How long did you wait before she gave you a YES

2. How long can you wait to get a YES?

3. Ladies, wetin be una problem? Is giving a guy a tough time a guarantee he will treat you right?

4. Ladies, why must we chase you people like we chase money before you say YES? I think the love thing should be mutual na? Must you stress the hell outta our lives?
Guy i feel ur concern. But d way u value urself and life, some people also value themselves dat way...yes, most girls will want u stress a little sha but its alll mind game. D chick dat does dat to u prolly has her own reason and maybe fall into ur kind of life view.
Dis ur issue happens at times when ur relationship is new maybe one two years cos if its 5 years and above she go accept sharperly. Im dat kind of person dat also dnt like ladies uneccesarily delay me weda in toasting or otherwise, but onze ukno dat lady is worth it then its worthy u grab it.

If u were working in a company as a contract staff & u saw another opportunity in a company to work as same contract staff on an MTN project which they will pay 5times d salary u earn at d present place what will u do?

To be specific Remember the MTN project is for a limited time 200k & d present place job is on as d company moving & managing with 40k...

What will be u stand, pls urgent thanks guys
Dis is a typical breakthrough my friend had dis year 2014, 3 months now. He was recieving 45K as contract staff wit a bank, so an opportunity came for him to go to another african country as a project expertrait wit desame bank. Now he collects as basic salary 8 times his former salary, talking almost 400K as basic not adding allowance yet o. D project is to last for 2 years. He went on xmas holiday wit a friend to US and will bé back soon.

So pls accept d elevated salry as u will meet ur next next level there. Besides ur new salary will open doors for ur bargaining power for top offers.

Enjoy while it last!
