BS the concluding part. Part 3 (post op/recovery) I was transferred from the wheeled bed to the bed in the recovery room where my dh and DD (sleeping) were waiting for me and the first thing I did was reach for my phone to take pictures. I was wondering why she was so tiny when the previous day scan put EFW at 2.9kg, alas she weighed 2.5kg..The nurse put the leg compression machine on my legs to help blood circulation and prevent blood clot. When my DD woke up the nurses raised the headboard of the bed to put me in a slightly sitting position and helped with latching the baby on my breast. My DD woke up about 3 times to feed and each time they had to raise and lower the headboard but after the last time I vomited due to the up and down movements. I tried to sleep a bit but I was very thirsty..thankfully after some hours they brought me a tiny cup of warm water and increased the quantity when they saw i tolerated the water. Soon afterwards I started feeling sensation returning to my legs, I was able to wriggle my toes. 6hrs after the surgery I was able to move back up to my admission room. But the hospital didn't have elevators so I had to walk upstairs (I had noticed this on my first hospital visit and I queried the gyne about having to walk up the stairs so soon after surgery, she assured me that although the ambulation is assisted it was a necessary step in recovery process). I got off the bed and stood upright and felt no pain at all ( after my Myomectomy I couldn't stand upright for almost 1week due pain), I was happy but when I mentioned it to the nurse she said the anesthesia was still working that's why I didn't feel pain. The walk up the stairs was uncomfortable because I had the catheter in and a pad between my legs but without panties lol. But there wasn't any pain at all. **I'm officially too tired to give details at this point so id summarise ** I was given a flask of tea to drink and pap for dinner. (Pap tasted like ice cream cos I was starving at that point). The gyne encouraged me to take lots of fluid (I drank only warm water) to help the healing and to ensure I empty my bladder before it gets full so it doesn't disturb the uterus from returning to its postion...she asked about my pain level and bleeding, checked the catheter bag and was satisfied with the quantity of pee in it. Next morning Catheter was removed, nurse gave me a sponge bath, breakfast and lunch were still pap (by this time I was seeing stars already)...apparently the nurses were supposed to have informed the kitchen to change my meals to solid but they didn't...complained to the doctor and that was sorted....bleeding had reduced...pediatrician diagnosed my baby of jaundice (checked her skin with the bilirubinometer and the level was 9) and instructed I feed her every 2hrs.. One of the times I feeding her I leaned to one side and I couldn't move cos the stomach pain was out of this world. I couldn't reach the nurses call button and my DH wasn't in the room..I had to stay that way until thankfully the doctors came in. She examined me and said it was the fibroids degenerating (that sh*t was painful) and they upped my pain medication. Next day I passed my first bowel movement, I made sure I had taken gallons of water the previous day and in the morning and I didn't strain at all. Straining to poop after CS is another type of pain you don't want for yourself. *Also sneezing, coughing and laughing is equally painful...you'd have to hold your incision area to reduce the pressure/pain. Baby's bilirubin level increased to 12....she's same blood type as me so it wasn't a blood type mismatch...they drew her blood for further investigation. The plaster over my incision site was removed and the doctor said it was healing beautifully..the nurse cleaned with Methylated spirit and showed my DH what to do cos he's the one that'll clean when we're home. We were instructed to clean the site with spirit 6-8 times a day. By evening they had to put the plaster back on cos my still very big tummy was covering the incision area and making it damp. The plan was to leave the plaster on for 3 days when I get home and start cleaning on the 4th day. My vitals were good, blood pressure good pcv 36% and I was discharged to go home....but my baby wasn't so we spent an extra day. I was concerned about the quantity of milk my LO was getting so I opened the Nan1 I had and after trying to feed with spoon and cup I decided that level of suffering wasn't for me. So to be sure I was getting enough milk, I used a breastpump and expressed breastmilk and I was satisfied with the quantity so I continued breastfeeding only. Next day her blood was tested again and we were discharged to go home with the instruction to feed every 2 hours, keep her in a brightly lit room (not directly under sun o) and go for a follow up visit some days after. Now we were home....being at home comes with its own challenges especially when you have an older kid (and in my case an elderly MIL that needs taking care of too)..sometimes I forgot to eat or take my meds...then after the plaster was taken off, remembering to grab either my DH or nanny to clean the wound. I was sweating a LOT! So in between the 2 hr methylated spirit cleaning time I still had to occasionally pat the incision site dry. I also kept drinking lots of warm water and it helped reduce my stomach a lot! The 'sleep when baby is sleeping' advice only works when you're in the hospital o , its a struggle when you're home. I started having swollen feet and elevated blood pressure so I had to force myself to shun everything else and sleep when my LO's sleeping.Days later we went for follow up and the jaundice was ruled as physiological jaundice so no intervention was required. Fast forward to my 2 week (almost 3 weeks) post-ops visit and my gyne said my incision site healed beautifully and I was given the go-ahead to resume bathing again. But my uterus hadn't fully returned to its proper position and its still measuring 16weeks because of the fibroids..its making my tummy look a bit big but I'm not worried because I've achieved a slate flat tummy after CS before and id work towards it after our exclusive 6months ends. 2 items I'm really glad I took to the hospital were my manual breastpump and a themos water bottle. I didn't have to start looking for where to plug electric pump...that pumping is essential especially for FTMs to help the milk start flowing well...and I always had warm water to drink by my bedside. We are now 6 weeks and both doing absolutely great. Comparing both my deliveries (Abroad and Nigeria), the major difference is the aftercare and the stress of cleaning the incision site with spirit to avoid infection. And this is because of the humidity in our region and the air is sort of dirty which isn't at the control of our medical team. As I officially hang my boots, I thank God for remembering me in my time as a TTC and blessing me with kids in the order I wanted. I pray that the good Lord also remembers our mothers still in the waiting room, please dry their tears and bless them to their hearts desires. |
AndreSalvatore:Condolences to your friend and his wife. Your post/knowledge about the delivery isn't enough to make inferences on what actually happened.....The attending doctor will be in the best position to enlighten and counsel the couple on what went wrong and how to avoid/manage it. But my guess will be the labour was prolonged and the baby was in distress...in such cases the doctor would suggest an emergency CS. |
MeynaTK:Congratulations mama. Welcome Princess |
Krystalluv:If you're in lagos go (send someone) to Alpha pharmacy in Ikeja.. they are the sole distributors of cyclogest hence their price will be a bit less. Praying for your rainbow baby |
Greathand01:Let her go and do a blood pregnancy test first. |

alaricsaltzman:Rest assured of a safe delivery. Our motto is safe delivery wether by vaginal delivery or CSection, healthy mothers & baby and happy daddy. You can still spend sometime today to read some birth stories shared by mamas to help prepare a bit (thats if your baby hasn't arrived already )And after she arrives there's also the newborn thread to help with the journey into parenthood. https://www.nairaland.com/971395/new-born-babies-u-new |
suzy:Congratulations mama. Welcome Princess |
Mamabigboy:By your LMP of 6th December you should be 8weeks not 6weeks..but scan is reading 4weeks. So its either your lmp is wrong/you don't have a regular cycle and ovulated way later than you think or the foetus isn't growing accordingly as it should. I pray whichever case, God comes through for you and the foetus continues to grow. Keep speaking positively to your baby, all will be fine by God's grace. One mama recently had similar issue LMP/Gestational age inconsistency (can't remember her moniker) and her baby was fine. |
justifiedcoyy:I think she should check with the doctor and be sure she doesn't have malaria. Else, she'd have to keep taking same cautions as in first trimester...eating small meals more frequently, not drinking water or lying down immediately after eating, eating bland foods etc |
Phunmilola:Congratulations mama. Welcome princess |
Krystalluv:Congratulations mama. May affliction not rise again. Didn't the doctor put you on progesterone? Consider just taking sometime off work if possible instead of quitting completely and speak positively to yourself and your baby. The MS might have been aggravated by the malaria you're treating. |
kemshade:Self medicating in pregnancy might put you and your baby at risk (hole in the heart etc). Go see a doctor if you're feeling ill. |
iamhistreasure:Congratulations mama. Welcome Prince charming |
Ab7890:Are you being monitored by a doctor? I hope the persistent pain isn't as a result of hyper-stimulation. Alpha pharmacy in Ikeja (off toyin street). |
enque:Mehn! Women are strong oooo |
shawylux:You can get them at reputable pharmacies. |
February mamas and cappo hope you guys are fully packed and ready to take over from January mamas? Safe delivery to all. |
clems88:Congratulations to you both. She doesn't need to go for scan if she knows the first day of her last menstrual cycle (LMP), the gestational age can be calculated from there and also her EDD calculated using it. The vomiting is as a result of surge in hormones and can last anywhere from 12weeks to the end of the pregnancy..she just has to learn to manage it (tips available on the thread). Hope she's taking her vitamins (folic acid or pregnacare)? |
Krystalluv:To err on the side of caution, take progesterone once pregnancy is confirmed. |
Layormiii:Lol. |
WetSmoke:Lol. I experienced a couple of this....its called lightning something and part of the package ![]() |
africaflozy:Yes babies are very expensive o. Dem no dey tell person |
Layormiii:Good decision. Babies are expensive so you should make plans first before bringing them into this hard world. |
ladyKcy:Yes you have to run the progesterone test to confirm if you ovulated. |
Greathand01:From the day the period ends, BD every other day till the end of the cycle to cover all bases. |

shithapuns:Forcing babies to eat traumatises them and makes eating hard work for both baby and caregiver. You need lots of patience to handle this. First is to find what he likes to eat..at 9 months he can eat the family food. Let him sit with you while you eat and if he shows interest, feed him out of your plate. Another method is to allow him play around and you'd follow him around and feed. Make feeding fun for him again. Pele |
purplish:As long as the horn fits your areola and your Nipple enters you don't have any problems...the size of the breast doesn't really matter 0 |
Congratulations fertilady on the arrival of your princess. We thank God for kept promises and his grace in our lives. Thank God for all the successful deliveries and healthy babies we have been blessed with. We commit our remaining January mamas into your hands Lord, make it easy for them. Grant quick recovery to mamas that have welcomed their LOs too. We pray for a big rain of BFPs for our TTC mamas. . got married this year n my wife confirmed pregnant which should be about a month now. She wanted to do a scan but she was given an extra 2 weeks that the scan wount show any thing in her tummy , the reason for the scan is for us to know how many weeks pregnant she is. But last week satday make it 2 weeks n wife my deosnt wanna gobfir the scan , she's saying till month end. But since yesterday she started vomiting n can't eat . she can't even go to her work.
I just ported from the pregnancy thread. Please can anyone recommend a very good brand of electric breast pump with a shield that is big enough for very full chested mamas? I just realised that I cannot use the Medela breast pump someone gifted me because the shield is too small for my breasts.
