TheGoodJoe: Well put but actually that is how I learnt. 😂 You are so brilliant.
I was crying when Zidane knocked out a young Spain. I just did not understand why such a smooth playing Spanish side should lose. Note, I did not say France but Zidane. He tore them to shreds.
Four years down the line, I noticed that Aragounes was right with what he did with the Spanish side. Those Spanish players became legends of the game.
Finito. Football success is hinged on adaptability. Adaptability to how your opponents play, their strengths and weaknesses, your strengths and weaknesses. Every style of football invented was once novel, then became outdated, then became novel again. If you have the resources to implement it and it can neutralìze your opponent's strengths, then its the best for you at that moment. It's so simple. Even Pep realises that and has tweaked and adjusted elements of his game over time (considering he has access to vast resources). Look at Leeds and their beautiful football 2 or 3 seasons ago. They got relegated and they've not found it easy to get back up. Why? Because they didn't adapt. You adapt by either getting the kind of players that can execute the style you want successfully (this is very dependent on resources which not many coaches or clubs have) or you tweak or change your style to suit the players you have. Otherwise, you'll end up like Leeds and Burnley, and even Norwich (I remember they came to the EPL and started like they were something with their play style). I no dey like long write up and just writing all this is already tiring for me, but I hope you get my drift (not that I expect it to change your mind anyway 😂). |

Mujtahida: We have always had foreign coaches. It is even the idea of local coaches that meets with resistance.
And to say that all that has happened was planned to happen is outlandish as if the NFF are God such that they could control all outcomes just so we can be 2nd on the lower wrung of the ladder.
Who benefits if we qualify? Is it you or the NFF officials? They probably didn't expect everything to manifest so soon, but I wouldn't put it past them to expect that down the line, our play and results will not be encouraging. We know how they sabotage previous coaches or wait for us to qualify (after struggling) and then start shouting "foreign coach". And like someone said, they make really stupid decisions that you begin to wonder. There are some decisions a person makes you begin to suspect they aren't stupid but deliberate. It happens a lot with our politicians and civil servants. All I'm saying is everything is smelling because the NFF are continuously making seemingly stupid decisions that, if you are someone who can read patterns and connect dots, may not be so stupid after all. |

They wanted a foreign coach all along and it seems this was the avenue they could get what they wanted without resistance
Read this your statement. Now let's be factual.
Who would have resisted them if they appointed a foreign coach?
Is it today Nigeria started appointing a foreign coach?
Generally speaking between foreign coaches and local coaches, which option gets more with resistance?
You guys easy with making unfounded assertions. Thinking about it again, I guess I should have said "it is looking like" instead of "it is obvious". Everything else I stand by. |

You guys easy with making unfounded assertions. It is not unfounded that before appointing Finidi, the preference was a foreign coach. It was reported widely. The resistance was from a lot of fans and journalists who wanted local after Peseiro and Rohr and all the money spent on them. It was reported that getting the money would prove difficult, especially as the sports ministry was u willing to assist. It was not long ago that this happened so I'm wondering why you're coming at me with "unfounded". Was it not here we reported that Allen Onyema said they should only hire a local coach (Amunike i think). This is someone who would typically support our team financially. Why did it take so long to appoint a coach? If there was proper interview and analysis on all the applicants and their capabilities, why the sudden panick and lack of belief in their well thought out decision? There's conspiracy, and there's deductive inference. They're not the same. |

[quote author=jihday post=130496551]here is why is very obvious that everything that has played out was premeditated. The blame for all this drama is squarely on the NFF and its technical department. They wanted a foreign coach all along and it seems this was the avenue they could get what they wanted without resistance.
How could it have taken months to appoint a coach and they did not even conduct any interview? That place is run like a cabal. That is where the change needs to happen for the progress of our football. |

TheGoodJoe: 😂
Better kids learn information that works than running with their thoughts in their heads. Scaloni should tell us if Messi is not one of the best tactical minds in the game. Best the kids become better at what will take them far than wasting their time dribbling. I don't like to dabble into these lengthy back and forth arguments, but the phrase in bold caught my attention. There is no way in hell that kids learning skills like dribbling and expressing themselves creatively should be termed a "waste of time". I've seen some of your subsequent posts after this, but I'm just going to sum up my response here (and this is all I'll say on this at this time). Scaloni did not say they should not be given tactical knowledge. All he's saying is don't kill their creative and expressive intuition. They are kids!! Let them learn to express themselves. The tactical part will be there for them to learn when they're a little older. It will not be too late when they're 15 or 16. It's like taking the life out of something and turning it into a boring job to be done. This whole argument just reminds me of Apple's new iPad ad and the uproar it caused. Please watch the apple ipad ad and then watch Samsung's tab ad in response. Think about it well and see the parallels and how it's a metaphor for this argument. (Obviously I doubt it will do anything to change your views or make you see from a different perspective. I guess it's more for others here to see and think about it as well). |

komekn: Not sure about this.
First of all Liverpool have never played with a quintessential number 9. They don't have a pyramid structure and have not for a long time. The number 9 is almost an appendage a kind of AM.
Firmino was the perfect example, the majority of goals 🥅 came from the inverted winger's or rather forward players coming from the wings. For example past and present, Mane, Salah, Diaz, Jota , Nunez, etc
Nunez has been struggling he is more of a number 9 but has found himself as an inverted forward coming from the wings.
VO has many attributes but being technically astute and playing on the wings is not one of them, IMO.
In addition there are two new Directors not Klopp guys Edward one of them comes from the mindset of not playing with a quintessential number 9. The other Director Hughes will follow the lead of Edwards.
In addition the new Dutch coach as is rumoured, Slot is not going to do dramatic changes in my opinion. I personally don't think he is a good fit for Liverpool and this could be there own Achilles heal.
Consider all the quintessential number 9 bought by Liverpool apart from Torres none have been able to have an impact. Players like Benteke, Carroll, Balotelli, Nunez, etc
Having all this in mind l don't think going to Liverpool is a great fit for VO. While your fears are understandable, I think you have it all wrong. Osimhen has what it takes to succeed in a team with with technical players because they will complement him perfectly. Plus, he is not bereft of technical abilities like you claim him to be. If he could succeed with a team like Napoli, why will he fail with teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, etc? What you're saying sounds like a father who tells his son to remain at the place he is in fear of failing rather than encouraging him to push for the stars with the chance that he might explode and exceed expectations. In my opinion, of he believes he can succeed wherever, let him go. Worst case scenario, he moves from there to somewhere else. It's not like we've not seen players move and exceed expectations before. The Isak everyone is shouting now was not exactly as prolific a scorer in La Liga as he is now, but look at him now. I'm also sure a lot of people wondered how Haaland would fit into a team like City with the way they played and the kind of players they had before he joined. |

TheSuperNerd: SHOCKER! Amuneke not listed to be new Super Eagles coach
As incredible as it may sound – SCORENigeria can report today that Emmanuel Amuneke is not being considered for the vacant post of head coach of Super Eagles.
“He’s not one of the three coaches recommended to the NFF executive committee to lead the Super Eagles,” a top official who should know told only SCORENigeria today.
This shocker comes when social media was abuzz with the purported appointment of the former African Footballer of the Year.
Those who have pushed for Amuneke to be appointed as Super Eagles new coach point to him leading the country to win a fifth U17 World Cup in Chile in 2015 and his impressive coaching badges.
He also led Tanzania to the AFCON after a 39-year absence.
While those who oppose his appointment highlight the fact that he assisted Augustine Eguavoen when Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the expense of arch-rivals Ghana right there in Abuja.
He also failed to qualify the Flying Eagles to the U20 AFCON and his stints in Zambia, Egypt and Sudan did not have a happy ending. All this drama on top appointing a coach. We just like unnecessary suspense. They should just announce and keep it moving. Even all these news blogs are just churning sensational click baits. Today it's Amuneke, tomorrow it's a foreign coach, the next it's the return of JPes. Anyone who believes these blogs fit get high BP. |

TheGoodJoe: Some people's boys were left out and deal cancelled. That is my suspicion. Kwarapt folks everywhere I turn.
It is to shun football and focus on mechanic things. 😂 From reports by Colin Udoh I think, the nff had submitted the application and passports long before. The tournament was to start on the 10th and as at 8th, the visa had still not been granted. The embassy were just being clever and telling half truths. It is not the first time the spanish embassy will be denying either players or journalists visas for official tournaments and programs. The nff decided there was no point and they needed the passports for other things so decided to withdraw the passports. I've seen a lot of conjecture on this thread, assuming and concluding either without any evidence or with unsubstantiated proof. These are things that form opinions and biases that may not necessarily be true. It's hard for any change to happen when we have biases that tell us change is not possible. |

Amedino99: one of haaland's weakness is passing but you can't notice it because his other qualities are beneficial to the team. If arteta says he wants osimhen, that means he is aware of his shortcomings and capabilities. I didn't even see this before I replied. You made my point simply. |

komekn: If you could spend 20 minutes in Arsenal academy you would understand.
Sorry when you spend £100 million on a player he is coming with expectation to hit the ground running and have immediate impact. He is the finished article nothing missing.
He is not coming to learn and develop he is coming as the finished article. All his learning should have been done at the academy in his teens.
While he is learning academy boys will overtake you with your huge price tag and make you incompetent. Ask Pepe how he felt when 16 year old Saka benched him.
You may heard of Nwaneri and Obi ( 16) scored 10 goals against Liverpool in a U16 game.
The Arsenal team plays a game of extreme technical proficiency, with deft seamless player interchange. That is not VO best game if you ask me.
In Napoli he is still the point man the quintessential number 9. His team mates may not always support him but that's the core strategy of Napoli.
Arsenal will ABSOLUTELY not change their strategy and style to suit VO. While I understand your point, my point is that VO is not someone who will just go there and expect things to just go his way. He is very adaptable and trust me, if he realizes there something he needs to improve for him to become more relevant in his team, he will do it. You can not tell me with the skills and abilities he already possesses, he will not be useful to the team. Less skillful players have played or are playing in Arsenal and heaven has not fallen. Arsenal don't necessarily have a point man maybe because they don't have anyone who can play that role effectively. Man City were essentially the same way before Haaland came. If Arsenal or PSG decide to go for him, it is because he has what they want. They are not buying him to see and assess if he has what they want. If their scouts and managers say he does, why should we question them for that decision? By the way, you didn't answer my question. If VO were to leave Napoli at the end of the season, which team do you think would be best for him considering his abilities and skills as you've stated? |

komekn: VO is VO Every player will have his unique attributes and sometimes singular QUALITY.
There is no player I have seen like VO , he plays football ⚽ like a man possessed, he is filled with a blind all consuming rage to win to succeed. He is relentless focused and with blistering pace he is a killer striker. There is nobody like him in the world 🌍 IMO. These attributes cannot be coached, he jumps higher than most, he refuses to be beaten. Life has made him like this not coaching.
Its possible to overcome a stronger and more skillful opponents just with sheer obsessive determination. That for me is VO.
He needs a team to make him the center point of all action. He is not a players filled with trickery, deft touches, finesse, and skill. Like say Benzema and or say Ronaldo.
Will PSG with their collection of world stars look up to VO and play for him . They did not do it for Messi, then they will certainly not do it for VO. I don't really get the part of your comment in bold. Which team do you think will be best for him? It's not like his team mates are all playing solely for him where he is now, and he is still their most important best player. If anything, PSG or Arsenal will be the best place for him to learn and develop the attributes you say he lacks. I think anywhere he decides to go, he is one person who will put in everything to adapt to whatever is required for him to succeed. We saw as much in Afcon where he was able to adapt and use his other abilities to help his team win. |

I like Aribo but currently he's not playing well. When he says Alhassan is not physically enough and then puts Aribo in the squad that he says requires physicality and stamina, one wonders what the logic is. If anything, Iwobi should play higher up the field, and Alhassan should control centrally based on his previous game. How Aribo is in that mix as the preferred choice leaves me scratching my head. |

charlesemeka85: on the flanks tella is better but as SS/AM/CF iheanacho is better Tella is not even in the squad. I thought the discussion is about options in the tournament. By the way, the formation against CIV did not necessarily play Lookman and Chuks as wingers. They were more like inside forwards. The way Leverkusen plays actually. The roles Hoffman and Wirtz play. In my opinion, Kelechi can play effectively in that position. If we're bringing Tella into the discussion, he'd be a better pick sha. |

komekn: There are some teams getting on the bench is a major feat in itself. Teams like, Real Madrid, Manchester City, etc
Nwakali will not smell the U18 and KC will not smell the bench of city Now.
Odegaard was a bench warmer for Real went straight into Arsenal team and dominated from day one, he is the captain of Arsenal.
Or Pogba from Manchester United youth team and occasional bench warmer to midfield general at Juventus immediately on arrival.
Lesson - NO BE ALL BENCH BE BENCH Yea, he either is really terrible that he can't even get substitute appearance or he's not ambitious. At least that is what you'd say about our own players. Why hasn't any other big team come for him. He's basically useless for City anyway, and they wouldn't stop him. Liverpool were looking for a DM for a long time and even went to acquire another bench warmer in Bayern.
