It is now I understand what being strict does, it makes you live a life of pretence, cos when I got into University I wanted to explore everything I didn’t have the chance of doing at home.

I drank alcohol like crazy, smoked weed, hung out with rich boys, partying, doing drugs but when I go visit my Parents, I still act like that innocent girl they have always known.

My Dad’s strictness led to my Pretence, if he had drawn me close like my mum did, I would have been a better kid.

When parents use strictness to shut down a kids curiosity instead of guiding them, you are making matters worse for that kid. Because eventually that curiosity will lead them into adventures and exploring all those things you refused them to..

Looking back, al the flogging I received from my dad only made me more stubborn and ruthless.

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade burst into tears on Thursday as he decried the tax burden on low-income earners in the state.

While inaugurating the Anti-Tax Agency on Wednesday, Governor Ayade abolished taxation of the poor, small business owners, artisans, low-income earners, peasant farmers, among others in the state.

He condemned the actions of some government officials who forcefully exact taxes from the poor; even as he tasked the anti-tax agency to bring that to an end in the state.

The governor who insisted that the poor must be protected, charged the new Anti-Tax Agency to ensure that ‘the poor’ are exempted from paying taxes.

In an emotional-laden speech at the inauguration of the agency, Governor Ayade broke down in tears saying:

“Why would we expect that people who don’t have scholarship for their children, who don’t have good schools. They struggle to pay; struggle with the uniform; struggle to have security in their small businesses and struggle to get water with their boreholes…They struggle with generators and government is providing almost nothing. To come back to such people and tax them; I think this is the greatest injustice.

“I never knew that five years into office as governor, I would still find somebody who would live in a thatched house in Cross River State. I almost cried because I knew how prepared I was. But it didn’t end the way I dreamt for the state. I just think that somewhere, God will just help them. I really wish I can really help,” he said as his voice broke with emotions.

Addressing the member of the Anti-Tax Agency, Ben Ayade charged them to rise to the occasion by putting an end to the activities of illegal tax consultants who he said impose unnecessary tax on the poor and vulnerable in the state.

“I charge you that this responsibility comes with it’s own troubles, you have a choice to do that which is good and the selection of this team is based on your history, it’s based on your profile ,the understanding of your closeness to God and that you will do that which is fair to all manners of people equally and fairly.

“We charge you to ensure that the poor masses of Cross River State and the small business owners do not come under the harsh hands of the desperate search for money by tax consultants”, Ayade told members of the Agency which is comprised of Christian clerics.

“Your responsibility from today going forward is to put an end to illicit taxes on people. We have a tax law here that prescribes the people who are exempted from tax. All those categories of people and those that from time to time will be so announced by the Governor; including every hotel that has less than 50 rooms in Calabar and the whole state today; are exempted from payment of taxes.”

Further, the governor reeled out other categories of people exempted from taxation.

“We have exempted all Okada riders, taxi drivers, airport taxi drivers, small saloon owners; small catering and restaurant points popularly called Mama Put. All those people who sell basic things struggling to eke a living; they have been exempted today from paying tax. We have exempted them because it is better for me as a Governor to rather task my brain than to tax my people,” he declared.

90% of Nigerians have a mental disorder,ranging from all sorts of issues like superstition,bigotry,hate, hypocrisy,and dumbness.i think the practice of democracy in Nigeria should be reversed because the mental balance of Nigerians are at stake.in Nigeria we see atrocities and corruption perpetrated by APC government and we see Nigerians including the well learned ones we ought to look up to defend these activities and corrupt tendencies with their whole mind.we see mass corruption pepertrated in PDP led states, journalists arrested without trials,even recently a pastor was flogged in ebonyi state which is a PDP state for just critisicm of a local government chairman for an abusive act he did.and he receiving flogging.yet you see people come out to justify this acts.we saw recently a governor in one of the opposition states brazenly demolish a hotel and cooked up fake lies to justify his act yet people supported him.infact those supporting the ruling party and the opposition members are all insane and confused.nigerians can't be trusted with democracy powers.i think we should go back to colonial rule,I just pray someday God will bless my Hussle and I will proudly be a Canadian citizen.from there I will watch Nigerians continue to degenerate.am so ashamed of been a Nigerian it's so painful.
