always have other sources of light on when you want to use your laptop and phones, like light bulbs or a bright lantern. The pupils of your eye regulate inflow of light and it dilates in the dark to get more light to your eyes, so if the only light source is your laptop it fools the eyes, so you pupils work extra hard. But in a well lighted room the pupils contracts to block amount of lights that goes into the eyes. Your headache is more related to reading in the dark, introduce other light source and help your eyes.

I had same issues around 2015 due to operating my phone in the dark, immediately i stopped things became normal again. Also get use to switching your light on when you are indoors except when you want to sleep.
