Recipe biko oo!

Una no go kuku kee person with food on this thread!
Ingredients: chicken, flour, chicken seasoning, dry pepper, grated onions, garlic(powder), oil, salt, egg, milk and flour
* Wash and clean the chicken, pat dry and set aside
* Mix all the seasoning in a dry bowl and divide the mixture into two, rub one part on the chicken and mix the other part with the flour( to be used in coating the chicken later)
* After coating the chicken with your seasoning, put it in the fridge for 2 hours, this will allow the chicken absorb the ingredients.
* Mix two eggs with milk and beat together ( the egg will serve as a bonding agent to allow the chicken stick to the seasoning)
* After marinating remove the chicken from the the fridge and first dip it in the egg and milk mixture, then remove from the egg and dip into the bowl of flour. The flour mix should stick to the chicken.
* Allow it to coat completely, then set aside to fry.

* Fry till golden brown

you guys should stop saying trash.. this was then and only poor parents heeded this so called beliefs. .guys are discriminated against in the society you don't see them claiming victims.. ranting on social media won't get women any where, start organizing seminars for them before I'll take you serious.. because you have Pussy and breasts everybody should now treat you like a God.. nonsense.. work hard to gain respect.
oh now I see where your problem lies, the name feminism gives you high blood pressure. If guys are discriminated in the society then start a movement call it menasim or whatever deem fits you, stop ranting on my mention it won't solve anything either. Maybe you live inside a bush that's y you don't know seminars are being held to educate the female child. Social media is also a way of reaching out to the girl child, the world they say its a global village. Who cares about your seriousness, certainly not me. Yes I have pussy and breast I don't expect anyone to worship me cos they are my sexual organs. Live your life don't let feminism kill you. You should read on different types of feminism and its tenets before condemning the movement.

bolded.. who's stopping female children from being educated? BTW euguene wasn't the one who made Beatrice an illiterthed I searched for purple hibiscus on Google nothing like feminism was attached when results popped up.. so stop including feminism in the search bar because you're deceiving yourself.
seems you have forgotten the age long belief that educating female children is pointless and only a waste of resources. I didn't say Eugene was the one who made Beatrice uneducated I only stated the difference between Ifeoma who is educated and Beatrice who is an illerate. Don't sweat it, its only a literary text. Maybe you should try asking Google different question like the different approaches to "Purple Hibiscus" I'm done arguing, you are not a literature student the whole argument is pointless. Namaste

stop typing feminism on the search bar, type only purple hibiscus.

women oppression is a theme in the novel, if you read the novel carefully (read it again today in a literature textbook) they were all dependent on Eugene. Eugene refused to help aunty ifeoma because she refused to join his knights Hood, Beatrice was hitted with a stool when she was 6weeks pregnant.

aunty ifeoma told her to leave the house but she said;

do you know how many times mothers offer him their children for him to marry even without bride price?

she was given an alternative but she refused to leave simply because she was getting something from the man.

if you also notice, you can see that she isn't working, she's dependent if she was independent the man couldn't have treated her that way, she would simply rent another apartment with her own money and move in with her kids

lessons learnt;

Most women stay in abusive relationships/marriages because of greed, laziness/dependency

bride price is the no. 1 cause of domestic abuse

most women stay in abusive relationships/marriages because of other people's opinions thinking people would say bad things about them.

where do you classify the theme of women oppression if not under Feminism or do you want to classify it under post colonialism? Ifeoma is educated , she stands up for her rights no matter the consequences, she fends for her family and she is not dependent on Eugene. Beatrice on the other hand is not educated and she is the opposite of Ifeoma. Feminism advocates for education for the female child. Education empowers women to be productive. One can succinctly say that Adichie believes in education for the girl child.

Beatrice is a type of woman that believes that her marriage to her husband is worth all the humiliation and victimization she goes through and sees it as a privilege considering the fact that he can marry another woman if he pleases. She is embodiment of African culture and traditions which you know is a taboo for an African woman to be a divorcee.

I agree that most women stay in abusive marriage because of greed, laziness, lost of hope and what the society might say but you have to include African tradition and culture.

If I want to undertake a study of the text i can use both Post colonialism and feminism as an approach. You can't rule out feminism in the novel, if you do then you are reading the text at a superficial level. As a literary critic I'm interested in how the writer has used language, form and style in order to convey meaning and the subject matter in the text, I read for the content, understanding of the subject matter and the reason and motivation behind every line not just for leisure and lesson learnt.

The truth is, the book makes Kambili the protagonist because everything is seen from her point of view. But, if you go through the significance of it you'll see it's about Jaja breaking free from his father and becoming a man. So please, don't be bias. The only dominant character that oppressed women was Mr Eugene, and he did it in the name of religion. Not because he saw women as inferior, if he did, he wouldn't have allowed Kambili to go to school.

Ade Coker died because he was always speaking the truth during the coup. Papa Nnukwu died by old age and papa dying wasn't to represent anything like strength of female characters. Lmao! Go and read the theme online and stop using coincidences to prove a stale point.

Every form of oppression in that novel was done under the name of religion. Jaja, Kambili, papa Nnukwu, Ade Coker were all oppressed and it had nothing to do with their gender.
I'm done arguing with this. If it was a feminist book, I'll see it on goggle without making reference to it being a feminist book.
That's from your view point, we all interpret literary text differently, its not about being bias and I didn't dismiss the theme of post colonialism in the text. I'm using a feminist approach to interpret the text, feminist critics focuses on how on the text has represented women and the relationship between men and women, the exploration of thoughts, feelings, intellect and actions of women, it also exposes the oppression of women. Yes Beatrice is not the only one being victimized in the novel her children are also victimized and as the mother of the children she bears the pain more, her family victimization and oppression is as a result Patriarchy, Ade Coker oppression can be seen from the stand point of military rule.

An author may adopt different stance in writing a novel, the novel is in a post colonial period therefore the evils of colonialism which is religion is depicted in the text. I'm not saying you are wrong but you are interpreting it only from the point view of post colonialism.

Exactly sis. I even have the pdf on my phone and I read the book again early this year. It centers on colonialism, religion bigotry, domestic violence Nigeria government. I was also a literature student. It had nothing to do with feminism at all, it's more of domestic violence than feminism. Because Mr Eugene didn't punish his wife and Kambili alone, he also punished Jaja. So how is that unfairness to the women alone? Even his father wasn't left out of his religious fanaticism.

I've the pdf on my phone, I'll send it to you through whatsapp.
sorry to say "Purple Hibiscus " is a feminist novel, religious bigotry and domestic violence are not the only major themes in the novel, the theme of women oppression is also seen in the novel. You can't overlook the portrayal of women as the major character in the novel, tho men are the seemingly dominant characters who oppresses the women, Adichie strangely makes almost all of the men die. Ade Coker dies by political unrest, Papa Nnukwu by old age and Papa by the hand of his own wife. The death of these men, represents the strength of the female characters. In the novel, Adichie presented two types of feminism, African feminism which is consider as being liberal towards men and radical feminism which uses violence to gain freedom. Mama tolerates the victimization from her husband as an african woman to be regarded as a good woman in the face of the society. She also presented two different types of women the real and the good woman, this can be seen in the character of Ifeoma and Mama. Btw I'm also a literature student. "Purple Hibiscus" was a literary text we treated under Feminism.

Perhaps it is born from the general hatred of men that appears to have permeated the feminist movement. Don’t believe me? Perhaps the words of Marilyn French, an acclaimed feminist author will solidify my point. According to herAll men are rapists and that’s all they are. Or perhaps the encapsulating belief that “Men are the enemies of women” according to Professor Ann Oakley is more demonstrative of the sentiments many feminists hold. What has brought about such gender based hatred? Perhaps it is a superiority complex, much like that which was held by European imperialists in regards to the Africans they were enslaving. For example, Erica Jong of the Washington Post believes that “…women are the more spiritually advanced race.” Imagine for a moment that these quotes were taken in a different context, substituting some of the key words. “All Blacks are rapists”, or “whites are the more spiritually advanced race.” Suddenly these words somehow become incredibly more controversial. It is simply amazing the things that some feminists can say and get away with in the “politically correct” world of today.
Have you check the early philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and Sigmund Freud definition of women? Feminism is a sensitive topic in Nigeria, not many understand the concept of feminism, but this your post, your moniker and signature is born out of hatred for women and am wondering why do you hate women so much? I will like to hear your story
