YOUNG WRITERS COMMISERATES WITH IZUNNA OKAFOR OVER FATHER’S DEATH

Members of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) have condoled with Izunna Okafor, SYNW National Secretary and the initiator of the annual Chinua Achebe Literary Festival following the death of his father, Mr. Josephat Okafor Udeze.

SYNW described Mr. Josephat Okafor Udeze’s death as painful and disheartening.

SYNW President, Wole Adedoyin, made this known in a condolence message he issued which was made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Friday, November 11, 2022.

SYNW prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and encouraged Izunna Okafor to take solace in the fact that his father led a life worthy of emulation.

According to the Message, “We received the news of the demise of your beloved father, Mr. Josephat Okafor Udeze with sadness, but we are consoled by the fact that he lived a life of dedicated service to humanity. From our research, your father was a strong pillar in his community, a disciplinarian and would be missed by all those whose lives he affected in positive ways.

“We share in your sorrow and pains at this period and we pray that God will grant you and the family the courage to bear the loss, as we also pray for the repose of the soul of your departed father.

“On behalf of the entire members of SYNW, we mourn with you on the unfortunate demise of your beloved father,”

SYNW also regretted that the unfortunate incident happened just six days to the 2022 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, which Okafor and his team were already at the peak of its preparation before the sudden news of his father.

Recall that Okafor's father, Josephat Okafor Udeze, died on Thursday, November 11, 2022. He was aged 68, and died after a brief illness, in his hometown, Ebenator, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

SYNW finally prayed God to give Okafor’s family, friends, community and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

ANAMBRA WRITERS SET TO HOST 2022 CHINUA ACHEBE LITERARY FESTIVAL AND MEMORIAL LECTURE

Writers, intellectuals, literary activists and book lovers from different parts of the world will, on Wednesday, November 16, storm Awka, the capital city of Anambra State for the 2022 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture.

The Coordinator of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter), Mr. Izunna Okafor, made this known in Awka while giving update on the association's preparedness for the 2022 edition of the event.

According to him, Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, initiated in 2016 and currently in its seventh edition, is a literary event the association annually hosts in honour of Nigerian literary icon, Late Prof. Chinua Achebe, in celebration of his life, works and legacies in the literary field and beyond. He added that this year's event will (as usual) hold on Achebe's birthday, November 16, 2022, at the Anambra State Central e-Library-Library, Awka, starting at 11.am; with many dignitaries and participants in attendance.

While revealing this year's theme of the event as “Literature, Intellectuals and National Development: The Achebe Model”; Okafor further disclosed that the 2022 Achebe Lecture will be delivered by the award-winning author, journalist and literary-cum-political activist, Uzor Maxim Uzoatu; while the National Vice President of Ọhaneze Ndị Igbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, will Chair the occasion.

In his word, “The event will feature the 2022 Achebe Lecture, drama, spoken word poetry, announcement of the winners of the 2022 Chinua Achebe Essay Writing Competition (for secondary schools), announcement and recognition of outstanding entrants for the 2022 Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology, special reading, award/certificate presentation, among other literary packages slated for the day."

He added that the occasion will feature the unveiling and presentation of the seventh Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology, entitled “Achebe the Soul Brother”, which is the association's newest international anthology of poems and essays, published in honour of Achebe.

The annual international anthology, he explained, is one of the writers' way of immortalizing Achebe, and contains poems, essays, and reviews written and submitted by writers from different countries of the world, in response to the 'Call for Submission' earlier made by the association.

Okafor, a veteran author and journalist, said the 2022 event is expected to be graced by top government functionaries and literary enthusiasts, including the Executive Governor of Anambra state, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who is expected to declare the event open; and the Traditional Ruler of Obosi, H.R.H. Igwe Chidubem Iweka, who is the Royal Father of the Day; among other dignitaries.

He said the open-to-all event will also be graced by arrays of literary icons from within and outside the country, who will be storming Awka to honour the legendary Achebe.

Born November 16, 1930, Prof. Chinua Achebe, who hailed from Ogidi in Anambra State, was a foremost Nigerian writer and critic, and author of Things Fall Apart. He died on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82.

ANA OSUN SET TO HOST TWO WRITERS IN OSOGBO NOVEMBER 19

The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA Osun), has set aside 19th day of November, 2022 to host two writers, Mr. Obinna Chilekezi and Mr. Akinyemi Jelili Oyelere in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

A statement signed by the Acting Chairman and Secretary of the association in the state, Mr. Odetayo Wasiu Omobewaji (current Vice Chairman) and Mr. Afeez Olagunju and made available to newsmen by the association’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Oladejo Haneef Olalekan said the event would take place at the association’s secretariat at No 20, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ibuaje Micro Finance Bank Building, Pepsi Cola, Area Osogbo, Osun State by 12PM prompt.
According to the statement, the Publicity Secretary’s report on the just concluded 41st International Convention of the association held at the national secretariat of the association will be presented to members. Also, the meeting would also discuss serious matters and ways of repositioning ANA Osun in terms of future activities and membership drive.
ANA Osun finally urged interested writers in the state of the virtue to partake in the November reading as it is open to the public.

OBINNA CHILEKEZI

Obinna Chilekezi is an Insurance Practitioner with background in Librarianship. Currently a PhD candidate at the Joseph Ayo Babalola University in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovations. His poems and stories have appeared in Newspapers, Journals and Anthologies. His published collections of poems are “Songs of a Stranger at the Smiling Coast” (Kraft Books), “My Gambian and Other Poems” (Libretto Press) and “Calligramme” (Emotion Books). He has just released a memoir on his one-month stay in his home town following a surgery in 2020, titled; “My Hospital Blues” which is presently on Amazon ( a book which reveals his discovery that the cause of agitation in his state and Igboland is bad governance from all the tiers of government).

In 2016, one of his insurance books won the African Insurance Organisation Book Award. He has travelled extensively across the West African sub-region and dreams of travelling too to other parts of the world.

AKINYEMI JELILI OYELERE


Akinyemi Jelili Oyelere hails from Imia hamlet, Kajola Local Government, Oke-Ogun Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. He is a Writer, Poet, Public Speaker, Passionate Volunteer, Technocrat Administrator, Development Expert, SDGs Advocate and Author of two books (Awakening Dreams and The Cave of a Thousand Demons).

Jelili is a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Oyo State Chapter, member of Ibadan Book Club (IBC), member of Family Support Initiative (FASI), and President of International African Writers' Association (IAWA), Nigerian Branch.

He is the Founder and Chairman of Awakening Dreams Foundation (ADF), a nongovernmental organization that caters for Tennagers and Youth. He is currently serving as a Project Manager at Gabriel Victoria Foundation in Osun State.

Jelili's works have been published in different countries. Also, he is an Award winning Poet. He has served as a Judge in different debates and speech contests.

Oyelere holds HND from The Polytechnic, Ibadan and presently serving Nigeria at National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a Corps Member in Osun State. He is an avid learner and voracious reader who add value to himself on daily basis.

EKO BOOK CLUB TO HOLD STRATEGIC MEETING ON SATURDAY
Eko Book Club (EBC) , another book reading platform of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) is set to hold its strategic meeting this coming Saturday in Lagos.
The strategic meeting is also expected to ratify the list of the EXCO members of the club.
In a Press statement on Thursday in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, National President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), Wole Adedoyin said that members of the Club will be meeting to discuss issues affecting the club and to inaugurate a new executive council for the club.
The statement added that the strategic meeting of the Club will be chaired by the President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), Wole Adedoyin and the Lagos Coordinator of the Society.
In 2014, Eko Book Club held her first EKO Creative Writing Workshop in conjunction with the National Library of Nigeria (NLN) Lagos State Branch and recently held her first Fiction Writing Webinar where it hosted two prominent fiction writers; Gabriel Sunday Afolayan (current ANA Ondo State Chairman) and Albert Afeso Akanbi (pioneer coordinator of SYNW in Osun State) who gave brilliant presentations on the Fundamentals and Techniques of Fiction Writing.
Eko Book Club (EBC) is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW). It was founded in 2011 by SYNW in order to contribute its own quota to the growth and development of Reading Culture in Lagos State.
Eko Book Club (EBC) consists of a group of people who meet periodically to discuss the book they have read and exchange those books. Club members encourage each other and learn to read with a critical mind, articulating their opinions about a particular book with others. Certain types of books not available or read receive attention through the book club.

Phebe Benjamin is a graduate of English Education from the University of Ibadan. She is a creative writer, copywriter, public speaker, poet and a freelancer. She has published her poem in the Lagos Book and Art Festival Anthology.

She served as a Lead Representative of Poets in Nigeria, UIABK connect centre. Due to her selfless service to the organization, she represented Poets in Nigeria at the Providus Bank World Poetry Day in 2021&2022 respectively where she shared the stage with the Professor Wole Soyinka (Kongi).

Currently, she works as a freelancer with some top brands and she is open to speaking engagement and strategic connections across the world.

Her first book to be published by December.

GBENGA OGUNSOLA

Gbenga Ogunsola is an Author, Trader & Social critic. He believes in giving people enough space to be real.

TAKE-AWAYS FROM THE JUST CONCLUDED ANA NATIONAL CONVENTION


It has been roundly described as the best ever. Take note the one at Ilorin two years back was also described as the best, so also was the one of last year 1st in ANA land. This last one has beaten all of them. The one of next year will also outclass that of this year from every indication.

The program was attended by more than Thirty renowned, professors mostly in the literary field as well as most of the founding fathers and past presidents of ANA, to mention but a few. We also had two first lady's as well as Governors representatives.

People were well accommodated both in the new ANA hotels and outside at no cost. There was free breakfast, lunch and dinner for the four days including snacks and drinks during sessions.

Facilities in and around the complex were world class even the roads.

There were even training sessions where veteran writers and professors willingly shared their literary world and answered questions pertaining writting.

The ANA land developer promised that before next convention, that all the remaining hotel buildings will be ready and functional. That every registered member will be entitled to a day's free lodging with breakfast. Subsequently further lodgings by members, will be at heavily discounted rates. A block of six two bedroom flats has been built for ANA to make use of either for residency or staff/official recommendations etc.

ANA 41ST INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION STARTS WEDNESDAY

Abuja from Wednesday, will witness a convergence of writers from all over the country for the 2022 International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).


ANA Delegates are expected to flood the streets of Abuja this week as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is in cheerful mood, as the city prepares to host what has been termed a largest literary gathering of writers. The Mamman Vatsa Writers Village in Abuja, already, is wearing a new face.


According to a programme of events released by the Convention Planning Committee of the Association indicated that the convention starts on Wednesday, 26th October, 2022.


The theme of this year international convention is Literature and National Consciousness: The Story As a Catalyst.


The Keynote Speaker is Professor Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.


The programme line-up include: Two guest lectures on the topic “Nigeria: A nation in a state of Critical Ferment”; Commissioning of the first phase of ANA Hotels / apartments; Commissioning of the state of the art library at Femi Osofisan Secretariat; Various panels and roundtable discussions; Convention play; A guided tour of Abuja and many more”

IBADAN WRITERS CONFERENCE HOLDS TODAY SATURDAY OCTOBER 22



The much awaited Ibadan Writers Conference, a capacity building conference organized by Adwinsa Publications Nigeria Limited in conjunction with Ibadan Book Club (IBC) holds today, 22nd day of October, 2022. The conference will be hosting six writers who will be teaching intending participants in the forthcoming Ibadan Writers Conference scheduled to hold on the 22nd day of October, 2022 at the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan. MEET OUR SPEAKERS





JIDE OGUNLANA





Jide Ogunlana is a Novelist, Editor, Playwright and Professional Publisher. Two of Ogunlana’s plays, Verbal Violence and Clash of the Gods have been successfully staged in the Arts Theatre, now Wole Soyinka Theatre, of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and they are being read in some higher institutions like The Polytechnic, Ibadan. One of his short stories and some extracts of his stories have also been published in some editions of ANA Review of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).



He has taught Literature and the English language in some government schools in Oyo Statefor some years and in three countries outside Nigeria at all levels of education including the university level at the National University of Lesotho.



Ogunlana is a multiple award winner of children’s literature. His storybook, Primrose and the Kidnappers (published by Lerato Book Publishers) won the 2018 ANA Prize for Children’s Literature and his A Girl Called Corona Sofia (published by Learning Solutions Specialty Publications Ltd) won the same prize again in 2021. Many of his books have been approved for school use in the current lists of books of Oyo State Ministry of Education.



Some of JideOgunlana’s published works are: Primrose and the Kidnappers, Awesu in a Strange House, A Girl Called Corona Sofia, From Marriage to Prison (A Collection of Short Stories), Two Plays of Verbal Attack, Teach Yourself English for Junior Secondary Schools. He also published some books under pseudonyms and they are: Esin Amope – a Yoruba play (Asamu Adebisi), The Adventure of Three Wild Boys (Wale Adewale),The 3rd of March and Out of This World (Wale Adewale).



As an editor, he worked with Evans Brothers (Nig. Publishers) Ltd for some years before founding his own publishing company where he now works as a publisher, a writer, a rewriter and an editor. While workingwith Evans Brothers as a Senior Editor he was involved in various works of great writers both locally and internationally. As an independent editor, he has edited outstanding works of many popular Nigerian writers such as the prose works of Dr Wale Okediran, the Secretary General of Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) and a former Member of the House of Representatives, the biography of a former governor, the prose work of Diipo Fagunwa, the only surviving child of D.O. Fagunwa and the autobiography of Prof. Samuel Olusegun Ayodele, a renowned Nigerian professor of English.



Jide Ogunlana also organises training on writing, editing and publishing on a regular basis at his office complex at the University of Ibadan campus.







KOLA AKINTOLA





Kola Akintola is an artist of rare ingenuity, his perspective is as wide as his gaze on each of his works is intense. He possesses an especial capacity to make art works from common and unlikely things.



His works serve as an experiment to understand the delicate intersection between 'art and life', 'art and anatomy', 'form and media'.



He believes that this interesting conceptualization of form and media arose from his attempt to blend his initial training in Human Kinetics dealing with real forms with his subsequent training as an artist dealing with "imaging". This is 'imaging' not as in photography but as in the faucouldian frame of things, in nature and in life things exist in themselves at particular times and in particular spaces as regimes of truth. Almost as isolates.



Kola's latest path-breaking skill is found in his new form / style which he called "Vein Painting". This is an inventive and brilliant use of organic materials laid on a background which throws it out in relief such that lines of fibre are used to give imaginative meaning to form.



It is a stylistic as well as technical improvement on his use of organic fibre.



Kola Akintola's art works have become academic studies in some universities in Nigeria and Colorado university in the United States of America.



He has had several art workshops and exhibitions around the world, and represented Nigeria at some international art discusses in the West Coasts of Africa.



He runs an art studio cum art gallery and he is the Proprietor of "Institute Of Art Technology here in Ibadan, as an outlet to training the younger ones in proper artistic acquisition.



He is always poised to saying "Everybody is an artist, but not every artist can become a great one, but a great one can come from anywhere"





MARCUS OVIE UGBODUMA





Marcus Ovie Ugboduma is a graduate in Accountancy from the Osun State College of Technology Esa-oke, He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers Institute Kaduna, and is a professional member of the Certified Institute of Purchasing and Supply Administration of Nigeria. He is a Teacher, Creative thinker, a writer Behavioral coach and a custodian and promoter of the African Culture.

He is an adept lover of books and the founder of the Book Friendly Club of God’s Blessing Comprehensive College.



Marcus prepared and led students from secondary schools in Oyo state to Win the 2019 Children cultural quiz for secondary schools at the NATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR ARTS AND CULTURE NAFEST EDO 2019 his students also came overall forth position in Children Essay writing competition at NAFEST EDO 2019, and overall second position at the Children Arts category at NAFEST EDO 2019. He also led his students to win the National Safety Quiz 2016 in Oyo state.



Marcus enjoys spending time with his students, and mentoring them in creative writing he loves travelling and spending time with his family and when relaxed he reads religious books.

His most inspiring moments are when faced with challenges and life's problems he eases the burden by just writing poems and documenting his experiences. His desire for young people is to help them solve social problems and vices which has earned him the accolade the " TOWN CRIER" because of his penchant for writing poems aimed at preserving history and revealing political truce between 2003 and 2007 he was a Ward Chairman of the All Nigerian People's party Ward 9 Mokola Ibadan.



He has been a community Leader of the Mokola Community as it's secretary for several years

He is also one of the founding fathers of the prestigious Mokola Carnival. Before venturing into Teaching he was a Singer, Rapper, Disc Jockey Song and Script Writer. His greatest height in the musical career was performing at the Abuja city gate at the movement of presidency from Lagos to Abuja on the 12th day of December 1991. He also performed at the Nigerian Children Trust Fund Concert in 1992 and 1993. He is today an educationist and had helped in establishing four schools in Ibadan.



He has written over a hundred poems, five books and six plays including "Regret Has No Medicine" the Masquerade Would Not Dance, Koronu. His play on Female Genital mutilation staged by his students has featured on Space FM on the day of the African Child 2016.

His poem "Should the Chibok Girls Return! Had also been performed by his students on Big Bolaji's show.He also mentored and presented students who have won prizes at three previous editions of the Fagunwa day celebration. His poems “The lamentation of an Aborted fetus" and "Okigbo in Biafra" were featured in the anthology of poems in honour of Prof Remi Raji @50.

He also co-edited the anthology of poems in honour of Senator Abiola Ajimobi with Wole Adedoyin. His most cherished poems are the poems he wrote about himself and his mother.

Busayo Fakunle is a Phonics consultant, poet, publisher, seasoned English language tutor, an editor, author of children's literary texts and the CEO, Hope Alive Educational Consultancy.



He has his first degree in English Language and Literary Studies at Ekiti State University, Ekiti state and did his Masters also in English Language at the prestigious University of Ibadan. SIX WRITERS TO HEADLINE IBADAN WRITERS CONFERENCE

The Conference will be hosting Mr. Jide Ogunlana, Mr. Kola Akintola, Mr. Marcus Ugboduma, Mr. Folarin Olaniyi, Mr. Busayo Fakunle and Mr. Inufin Ayomide D’Great.

Ibadan Writers Conference is a one day conference, designed to guide and assist Oyo state up and coming writers through the process of writing. The primary purpose of this conference is to help unlock the potentials of Oyo state based writers as “writers” and to help them understand and realize their writing potential.

Ibadan Writers Conference also aims to provide the highest quality of creating writing course, support, and community for writers and readers in Oyo State and beyond. JIDE OGUNLANA


Jide Ogunlana is a Novelist, Editor, Playwright and Professional Publisher. Two of Ogunlana’s plays, Verbal Violence and Clash of the Gods have been successfully staged in the Arts Theatre, now Wole Soyinka Theatre, of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and they are being read in some higher institutions like The Polytechnic, Ibadan. One of his short stories and some extracts of his stories have also been published in some editions of ANA Review of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

He has taught Literature and the English language in some government schools in Oyo Statefor some years and in three countries outside Nigeria at all levels of education including the university level at the National University of Lesotho.

Ogunlana is a multiple award winner of children’s literature. His storybook, Primrose and the Kidnappers (published by Lerato Book Publishers) won the 2018 ANA Prize for Children’s Literature and his A Girl Called Corona Sofia (published by Learning Solutions Specialty Publications Ltd) won the same prize again in 2021. Many of his books have been approved for school use in the current lists of books of Oyo State Ministry of Education.

Some of JideOgunlana’s published works are: Primrose and the Kidnappers, Awesu in a Strange House, A Girl Called Corona Sofia, From Marriage to Prison (A Collection of Short Stories), Two Plays of Verbal Attack, Teach Yourself English for Junior Secondary Schools. He also published some books under pseudonyms and they are: Esin Amope – a Yoruba play (Asamu Adebisi), The Adventure of Three Wild Boys (Wale Adewale),The 3rd of March and Out of This World (Wale Adewale).

As an editor, he worked with Evans Brothers (Nig. Publishers) Ltd for some years before founding his own publishing company where he now works as a publisher, a writer, a rewriter and an editor. While workingwith Evans Brothers as a Senior Editor he was involved in various works of great writers both locally and internationally. As an independent editor, he has edited outstanding works of many popular Nigerian writers such as the prose works of Dr Wale Okediran, the Secretary General of Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) and a former Member of the House of Representatives, the biography of a former governor, the prose work of Diipo Fagunwa, the only surviving child of D.O. Fagunwa and the autobiography of Prof. Samuel Olusegun Ayodele, a renowned Nigerian professor of English.

Jide Ogunlana also organises training on writing, editing and publishing on a regular basis at his office complex at the University of Ibadan campus.



KOLA AKINTOLA


Kola Akintola is an artist of rare ingenuity, his perspective is as wide as his gaze on each of his works is intense. He possesses an especial capacity to make art works from common and unlikely things.

His works serve as an experiment to understand the delicate intersection between 'art and life', 'art and anatomy', 'form and media'.

He believes that this interesting conceptualization of form and media arose from his attempt to blend his initial training in Human Kinetics dealing with real forms with his subsequent training as an artist dealing with "imaging". This is 'imaging' not as in photography but as in the faucouldian frame of things, in nature and in life things exist in themselves at particular times and in particular spaces as regimes of truth. Almost as isolates.

Kola's latest path-breaking skill is found in his new form / style which he called "Vein Painting". This is an inventive and brilliant use of organic materials laid on a background which throws it out in relief such that lines of fibre are used to give imaginative meaning to form.

It is a stylistic as well as technical improvement on his use of organic fibre.

Kola Akintola's art works have become academic studies in some universities in Nigeria and Colorado university in the United States of America.

He has had several art workshops and exhibitions around the world, and represented Nigeria at some international art discusses in the West Coasts of Africa.

He runs an art studio cum art gallery and he is the Proprietor of "Institute Of Art Technology here in Ibadan, as an outlet to training the younger ones in proper artistic acquisition.

He is always poised to saying "Everybody is an artist, but not every artist can become a great one, but a great one can come from anywhere"


MARCUS OVIE UGBODUMA


Marcus Ovie Ugboduma is a graduate in Accountancy from the Osun State College of Technology Esa-oke, He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers Institute Kaduna, and is a professional member of the Certified Institute of Purchasing and Supply Administration of Nigeria. He is a Teacher, Creative thinker, a writer Behavioral coach and a custodian and promoter of the African Culture.
He is an adept lover of books and the founder of the Book Friendly Club of God’s Blessing Comprehensive College.

Marcus prepared and led students from secondary schools in Oyo state to Win the 2019 Children cultural quiz for secondary schools at the NATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR ARTS AND CULTURE NAFEST EDO 2019 his students also came overall forth position in Children Essay writing competition at NAFEST EDO 2019, and overall second position at the Children Arts category at NAFEST EDO 2019. He also led his students to win the National Safety Quiz 2016 in Oyo state.

Marcus enjoys spending time with his students, and mentoring them in creative writing he loves travelling and spending time with his family and when relaxed he reads religious books.

He believes that this interesting conceptualization of form and media arose from his attempt to blend his initial training in Human Kinetics dealing with real forms with his subsequent training as an artist dealing with "imaging". This is 'imaging' not as in photography but as in the faucouldian frame of things, in nature and in life things exist in themselves at particular times and in particular spaces as regimes of truth. Almost as isolates.

Kola's latest path-breaking skill is found in his new form / style which he called "Vein Painting". This is an inventive and brilliant use of organic materials laid on a background which throws it out in relief such that lines of fibre are used to give imaginative meaning to form.

It is a stylistic as well as technical improvement on his use of organic fibre.

Kola Akintola's art works have become academic studies in some universities in Nigeria and Colorado university in the United States of America.

He has had several art workshops and exhibitions around the world, and represented Nigeria at some international art discusses in the West Coasts of Africa.

He runs an art studio cum art gallery and he is the Proprietor of "Institute Of Art Technology here in Ibadan, as an outlet to training the younger ones in proper artistic acquisition.

He is always poised to saying "Everybody is an artist, but not every artist can become a great one, but a great one can come from anywhere"


MARCUS OVIE UGBODUMA


Marcus Ovie Ugboduma is a graduate in Accountancy from the Osun State College of Technology Esa-oke, He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers Institute Kaduna, and is a professional member of the Certified Institute of Purchasing and Supply Administration of Nigeria. He is a Teacher, Creative thinker, a writer Behavioral coach and a custodian and promoter of the African Culture.
He is an adept lover of books and the founder of the Book Friendly Club of God’s Blessing Comprehensive College.

Marcus prepared and led students from secondary schools in Oyo state to Win the 2019 Children cultural quiz for secondary schools at the NATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR ARTS AND CULTURE NAFEST EDO 2019 his students also came overall forth position in Children Essay writing competition at NAFEST EDO 2019, and overall second position at the Children Arts category at NAFEST EDO 2019. He also led his students to win the National Safety Quiz 2016 in Oyo state.

Marcus enjoys spending time with his students, and mentoring them in creative writing he loves travelling and spending time with his family and when relaxed he reads religious books.
His most inspiring moments are when faced with challenges and life's problems he eases the burden by just writing poems and documenting his experiences. His desire for young people is to help them solve social problems and vices which has earned him the accolade the " TOWN CRIER" because of his penchant for writing poems aimed at preserving history and revealing political truce between 2003 and 2007 he was a Ward Chairman of the All Nigerian People's party Ward 9 Mokola Ibadan.

He has been a community Leader of the Mokola Community as it's secretary for several years
He is also one of the founding fathers of the prestigious Mokola Carnival. Before venturing into Teaching he was a Singer, Rapper, Disc Jockey Song and Script Writer. His greatest height in the musical career was performing at the Abuja city gate at the movement of presidency from Lagos to Abuja on the 12th day of December 1991. He also performed at the Nigerian Children Trust Fund Concert in 1992 and 1993. He is today an educationist and had helped in establishing four schools in Ibadan.

He has written over a hundred poems, five books and six plays including "Regret Has No Medicine" the Masquerade Would Not Dance, Koronu. His play on Female Genital mutilation staged by his students has featured on Space FM on the day of the African Child 2016.
His poem "Should the Chibok Girls Return! Had also been performed by his students on Big Bolaji's show.He also mentored and presented students who have won prizes at three previous editions of the Fagunwa day celebration. His poems “The lamentation of an Aborted fetus" and "Okigbo in Biafra" were featured in the anthology of poems in honour of Prof Remi Raji @50.
He also co-edited the anthology of poems in honour of Senator Abiola Ajimobi with Wole Adedoyin. His most cherished poems are the poems he wrote about himself and his mother.

CHINUA ACHEBE PRIZE FOR LITERATURE 2022 SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

Just as the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) prepares to host its members at the 41st international convention, the judges have released the shortlist for the second edition of the Chinua Achebe Prize for Literature.


In a statement issued by the General Secretary of the Association, Maik Ortserga said Micheal Afenfia, Uwem Akpan and Sylva Nze Ifedigbo make up the shortlist.


Parts of the release read, “The Association of Nigerian Authors has released the short list for the 2022 Chinua Achebe Prize.”


“According to the judges "the vitality, variety and grandeur of creative talents among Nigerian writers is once again demonstrated through an impressively diverse array of entries in the 2022 edition". The judges were led by Prof. Razinat T. Mohammed, the Head of Department of English at the University of Abuja, and James Tar Tsaaior, PhD, Professor of English, Media and Cultural Studies & Senior Associate Research Fellow at the Department of English University of the Free State Bloemfontein, South Africa. The short list is here released in no particular other as follows:

Chinua Achebe Prize For Literature is endowed by the Anambra State government in honour of legendary author Chinua Achebe, who was born in the state and one of the most influential names in modern African literature. He is the author of the most well-read book by an African for his 1958 debut novel Things Fall Apart. His other novels were other No Longer At Ease, Arrow of God, A Man of the People, and Anthills of the Savannah.. It awards a cash prize of N1 Million to the best work of fiction by a Nigerian in a calendar year. The prize is administered by the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

ANA Prize judges have released the shortlists for the 2022 Literary Prizes in preparation for the 41st International Convention/ commissioning the first phase of ANA Hotels and Library, a project that is a follow-up to last year’s commissioning of Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre located within the same Writers’ Village.

The Association of Nigerian Authors was founded on the 27th June, 1981, during a conference convened by the late Professor Chinua Achebe. The National Secretariat of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has received confirmation from Government House Awka that the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Charles Soludo has confirmed that he would be attending the Award / Dinner night on the 29th November, 2022.

Prof. Soludo will also present the second edition of Chinua Achebe Prize for fiction during the award night. It would be recalled that the first edition of the Chinua Achebe Prize for Fiction has been successfully awarded to the winner with international acclaim.

We take this opportunity to acknowledge the laudable gesture of Anambra State Government for the endowment of the Achebe Prize to the tune of one million naira in honour of the legend. We also extend our best wishes for the Governor’s continued good health and success in the years ahead.

A statement issued by the Coordinator and Secretary of the club, Ayobami Odunyemi and Hassanat Ayoade said the event would take place at the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Ibadan by 11AM.

Emmanuel Adetola Layode holds degrees in Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy University of Ibadan, where he teaches Philosophy. Before now, he had taught Nigerian Politics, Political Enquiry and Analysis, and Logic and Critical Thinking at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State; and Logic and Critical Thinking at Bowen University (of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Iwo, Osun State. 'Tola was also an Editorial Assistant with Bookcraft Publishers, Bodija, Ibadan. He had also taught English and Government at Kolmor Metropolitan College, Bodija, Ibadan. As a budding scholar, Tola's quest for scholarship is quite impressive, as a number of his academic papers have been published in national and international journals. Tola's latest work, "Religion, Intersubjectivity and the Quest for Social Development" emphasizes Tola's status as a social theorist. Being also an avid reader, Tola is an advocate of the reading culture. He will be talking on The Imperative of Reading for Social Development.

ANA OSUN HOLDS YUSUF ALI CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

Early this year, the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) secured funding for the eleventh year towards the ANA/Yusuf Ali nationwide literary awareness campaign.
Yusuf Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria based in Ilorin, Kwara State, has taken literary philanthropy to an enviable level with his yearly N3 million grant to the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) designed to promote reading awareness among Nigeria’s young people in schools.
The national headquarters of ANA received the sum of N3 million on Thursday, February 10, 2022 for this year’s project from the donor, Yusuf Ali (SAN).
Early March of this year, Cheques were given to fourteen state chapters in which Osun State was one of the beneficiaries. This will be the first time the Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) will be benefiting from this project.

The students of Islamic Comprehensive College in Ede, Osun State, and the Association of Nigerian Authors, Osun State Chapter, had a great time on Friday, October 7, 2022.

The purpose of the workshop was to educate students about the value of reading and art of writing. ANA Osun State Treasurer, Mr. Olagunju Hafeez, assisted other executive members of the association in giving the students a lecture on the art of writing poetry. He led the pupils in an interactive session and also discussed the benefits of reading. He cited the development of the mind as one of the many benefits of reading.

Also, Mr. Odetayo Wasiu, another executive member of the Association taught the students on the fundamentals and essentials of writing stories for children.

The students wished for more of such a program because they felt so inspired, alive, and engaged. Some of them expressed their appreciation to Mallam Yusuf Ali (SAN) and ANA for considering them deserving enough to bring the workshop to their school.

Invited ANA Osun members were surprised by how students showed up for literary presentations, which they delivered with excellence. Some students presented in areas like poetry, short plays, jokes, and also gave inspirational essays. As one of them who received a prize of ₦500 stated, "it was certainly fantastic."

Mr Oladejo Haneef said while giving his remarks that top priority is to broaden everyone's perspective in the literary world. Learning to be creative benefits the intellect in various ways. It benefits psychologically and cognitively. The students gained new insight.

The program had 79 participants, and the facilitators were Mr. Oladejo Haneef, Mr. Olagunju Hafeez, and Mr. Odetayo Wasiu.

ANA NAMES AIR PEACE AS OFFICIAL AIRLINE SPONSOR FOR 2022 INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is proud to announce Air Peace as the Official Airline for its 41st International Convention coming up between 26th and 29th of October 2022 at the Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre, Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja.

ANA President, Camillus Ukah in a release on Wednesday issued by ANA National Secretary, Maik Ortserga, said the Airline has offered a discounted rate of N60,000 from across the country for its delegates attending the 2022 International Convention from any part of Nigeria they have a route.

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) will hold its 41st International Convention in the Federal Capital Territory (Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre, Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja from October 26 through 29th 2022.

According to the release, “Offer expires on Friday, 7th October, 2022 and interested persons should contact Cynthia at Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape Abuja via 07030250423."

The theme of this year International Convention is “Literature and National Consciousness: The Story as a Catalyst”.

The keynote Speaker is the current Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na'Allah.

The programme line-up include panel discussions, Roundtable discussion, Arrival Cocktail, Tour of MammanVatsaWriters’ Village, Dinner/ Grand Award ceremony and many more.

Air Peace is a private Nigerian airline founded in 2013 with its head office in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria,the flag carrier and the largest airline of Nigeria and West Africa.
