Then its still necessary to get humanitarian reinstatement . They will ask about the petitioner at the interview and at the border. Petitioner must be in the US at the time of applicant's enry or is traveling with the applicant when they intend to move |

EasyPope: US embassy issues fresh directive for visa applicants https://guardian.ng/news/us-embassy-issues-fresh-directive-for-visa-applicants/
The United States Embassy has advised visa applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during their immigration visa process.
The US Embassy announced this directive on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, stating:
“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.
“This new process is designed to help you prepare for your visa interview and to prevent significant delays in processing your immigrant visa.”

Additional information from its website, as seen by The Guardian, states that the first visit to the US Consulate in Lagos is for an In-Person Document Review with a consular staff member. This review ensures that applicants are prepared for their visa interviews.
According to the US Embassy, the review allows applicants to retrieve any missing documents ahead of their visa interviews, helping to avoid delays in application processing.
The second interview, on the other hand, is with a Consular Officer. The date for this interview will be scheduled for applicants by the National Visa Center (NVC).
“If you do not complete the In-Person Document Review before your visa interview, you will be required to reschedule your appointment,” the US Embassy added.
https://guardian.ng/news/us-embassy-issues-fresh-directive-for-visa-applicants/ Emphasis is IMMIGRANT VISA please so this is for immigrant visa applicants. majority of visa applicants in Nigeria are applyying for NON IMMIGRANT visas. |

dipset01: Just at a crossroad, I currently work for an FCMG in Nigeria currently go home with about 1.7m monthly as income after tax, also have some other benefits, I got my PR since 2022 and did my soft landing with my family and came back to Naija 2023. Since then I have been job hunting in Canada, lately and got a contract job with an IT firm, the pay not so fantastic but it is more than enough to me the needs of myself and my family. The contract is for 7months as I am reliefing someone who is on a long leave. Wondering if I should just resign in my current job and move with my family to canada. The contract job I got is exactly what I do today in my naija job with the same grade, just contract.
What do you guys think, just so you know i current support the house 100%, I spend like 800k to run the house in this Tpain economy and usually endup saving 900k monthly. I have also been hearing alot of stories on the challenges in Canada and how canada is beginning to change its immigration policy, I dont want to loose my PR. You might get more responses if you post in the Living in Canada thread Your concerns are valid...certainty to uncertainty The only thing I would add is that you would need two incomes in Canada so your wife would have to prepare to work. Does you FCMG have policy for taking study leave? You can also consider going first and prepping for your family ahead. |

Gbanis: Hi guys, thank you for your responses on my previous concerns. I have one more issue at hand. I'm one of the people who have a valid visa fee from the old portal but didn't schedule an ian appointment. Fast forward after the migration, my profile has been saying "user inactive" for months. i decided to create another profile using a different email but I'm unable to use my GTB receipt. Created tickets and got a response to upload a screenshot of my vise fee receipt which I have done severally yet no head way from there. Recently, I got an email that I have been moved to the new portal and to reset my password which I did with the link that was sent to me but when I try to log in, it still says "user inactive" while the newly created profile still has open and unresolved tickets with the GTB visa fee receipts uploaded. Is there something I'm doing wrong? How do I go about this issue? It's been over a month. I need help please. I think you might want to check the official us embassy nigeria handle on TwitterX.com Someone shared that they provided instruction for people who still had valid GTB ban receipts. You can ask on the Nairalands US Student visa thread , someone there might remember that post and repost it |

Teensmentor: Hi Guys,
So, I have some questions and concerns
I paid for my visa in the old portal and applied for Interview waiver. Now, after migration to the new portal, my application just shows regular with no information about how and where to drop my passport.
my question is, Can i just walk in into the embassy and do an interview instead? If not, what do i need to do for the IW process? I have been reading people talking about OIS but not sure how it works. Do I need to register on the OIS website and pick a date for passport dropoff that corresponds to the one on my application at AVITS? Can I register for this on the day of my appointments?
Sorry for the many questions. I am just a bit worried as my interview is in few days and I wnat to get it right before leaving the US. (My current visa has expired)
Thanks go to OIS website and pick a date for drop off your passport. Even with the old portal you would not being going to the embassy to drop off - the drop would have been at DHL |

Gbanis: Greetings everyone, I would like to know, what other documents (if any) does a US citizen need for a travel visit to Canada from Nigeria besides a valid US passport? Also, can a minor kid (US citizen) be allowed into USA from Canada in the company of an adult guidian? (A relative). I would like my child to go on a 2 weeks visit to see his Dad in the US. It's been 6 years since he left and I haven't been able to renew my visa to take the boy to go and see him. I'm hoping we can visit Canada, then I'll have a relative take him to his Dad in USA on a short trip and bring him back to me in Canada, then we can return to Nigeria. If this is possible, what documents do I need for them to present at the US POE? and would this in any way affect my chances of getting a US visa as I plan to go for my interview after the trip. His Dad and I are legally divorced but peacefully parenting our child. Please any valid information or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Technically a us citizen doesn't need anything to enter the US. The issue might be with the guardian. Since the child is a minor. I'd say prepare something to show you have given that person permission to travel with your child. |

Trydifferentjok: Thankfully my Canada visitor visa has been approved after several months of waiting!
The best available ticket from LOS-YYZ is United Airlines with a layover in Washington Dulles Airport. I'm aware that I would have to go through customs in Washington and would need to get my luggage and re-check for my connecting flight to Toronto, I also have a U.S. visa so I should be fine getting through.
Is 4 hours enough time to go through this whole process or would it be recommended to go for a longer transit time instead? Has anyone gone to Canada from Naija via a U.S. transit?
Thanks. 4 hours should be fine if your flight to Canada is still via United. Yes you clear your luggage but you simply move done a little and but it back on a carousel since you have a connecting flight.Uniyed officials are there at baggage. The only time you spend is getting to your new gate. |

Now, they are asking this for the remaining person. I guess they have already included me in the household since I already got it, maybe that is the reason why they think we need additional income?
For the joint sponsor, as you said, even a friend can stand as one? And must live in the same place?
Thanks brother They don't have to live in the same house or even state. They just need to have fill the form and provide evidence of income to meet the threshold for their own personal household plus the applicants. So think carefully about who would be suitable and ask around |

internationalman: What if the joint sponsor is in the USA and able and capable to take any form of responsibility for the applicants The petitioner must be 1. Domiciled in the US Or 2. Show proof that they intend to return and resume domicile in the US before or at the time the applicant gets to the US. Proof of resuming or maintaining domicile include, evidence that you vote in elections ( which you can do in Nigeria), bank account statements, new job in the US or job applications , regular visits to the US. Note the petitioner MUST be in the US before applicant or arrive with the applicant when they land in the US. Border patrol will ask. They can turn you back. Even at interview at consulate, they will ask and they already know if petitioner has left the US so don't lie , just provide evidence that they will resume domicile. Lastly as someone else has said even if petitioner earned 0 income they should file taxes. They are still required to fill i864 form. |

DWJourney: Hi guys,
Please, I will appreciate it if anyone knowledgeable about this can reply.
One of my relatives immigrant visas is on processing. We received a below message even after everything is submitted, now, we are not really clear on how to specifically attend to this. There's no any family member that can stand as a sponsor again here.
Instruction received:
" The income reported as stated on form I-864, I-864A is insufficient to overcome the public charge grounds of inadmissibility for visa issuance. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. A consular officer will decide if you meet these requirements at the time of the interview. Note: You, as the sponsor, and any other sponsors household members and joint sponsors, must provide updated or additional evidence for the applicant to present at the time of their interview such as: Other income, Assets, Proof of current employment. You can continue to upload documents to CEAC up until the date of your visa interview "
My question, is it also possible to attach bank statement of the sponsor showing savings to that can cover the remaining fund required?
And, is there anyway we can contact CEAC?
This petition was filed in Dec 2022 and we are only waiting for this Mama interview date in Lag.
@Taal17, @Aestake , please guys
Thanks Maybe you should share this on the NVC thread. That being said, you need another joint sponosr. It doesn't have to be a family member. I'd guess your household size is large. Go check the minimums financial requirements for the household size and compare it with the income you you put for petitioner and household member with i864A |

She had qualified for IW but was given the form 221g and we were able to get interview date( we paid since 2022). She was denied because she over stayed. The VO asked why and she said it was Covid but he pointed out to her that she ought to hv come back even before the shut down Also asked what she was doing- my mom is retired and was spending time with her elder sister who is also retired ( told the VO this) Asked how many kids she has and how many were in the country Asked who was responsible for her upkeep all through the stay in the US to which she answered that I was the one responsible
My question is- can we reapply? And how soon? As the other reason for wanting to go to the US is my cousins wedding holding later in 2025.
Thank you as I anticipate your advice please🙏🙏 She'll still have to answer to the time she overstayed. How long did she overstay? You might want to put off travelling for a bit longer. |

Just saw this post online don't knwo how true it is . Not sure the veracity of this news but I'll recheck . However if you are in the US via a visit visa your ARE NOT IN THE US ILLEGALLY. please let's be clear. If however the length of stay granted you at the border. Typically it's to limit of 180 days per.saty. If you have exceeded that time then you have OVERSTAYED. Another caveat if at the border the CBP restricts your stay to less than 180 days then if you stay more than that time you have OVERSTAYED. So this news as you have posted it is for them to get details on your stay. Show your visa, that's all. Since you're paying cash you are not using public funds as a visitor. |
