Are you slow or what?? Has electricity not improved in Nigeria? What's the lie about that.
Plus, no President (not even American President whose Military is accused of committing atrocities in Iraq, Pakistan, Afganistan, Guatanamo etc) will admit openly that her Security services are involved in any sort of atrocities while the operations are still going on; it is not done. Moreova, JTF have not behaved as bad as most of the people in the north (many of whom secretly sympathize with BH) have been accusing it off; and, na dem dey go tell all these international organisation 'stories' abot atrocities (recall, the Reuters case)

Sincere 9gerian: The agric transformation agenda of the federal govt is spreading like wild fire.

I banned the purchase of imported rice in my house last year. We now buy locally produced rice- Ebony Super to be precise. What I found interesting is that the locally produced rice is fresher, slightly cheaper (though not available in 50kg) or same price as imported in some places, of very good quality and available in the market (at least in Enugu). Presently, I dont think there's any justifiable reason for any Nigerian, residing where quality local rice is available, to chose to buy imported rice rather than 9ja made rice.
+1million likes..... Where do we find these newly milld local rice in d Benin-Asaba axis??

Afam4eva: People are considered to be doing well when whatever they are doing has an impact on the populace. The last time i checked the price of food items is still high. So, you guys should be lucid by telling us what exactly he has done.

The moment i heard that this man wants to buy cell phones for farmers, i just wrote him off. Talk about misplaced priority.
Actuali if at dis early stages of d ongoing reforms you see a freefall in d prices of food, then dat wud be a sign that d reform is not bn implementd properly. To spur Productn anywhere d prize hv to be 'right' for d would-be producer to enable him tk d economic decision to produce, and then going forward the prizes wud begin to fall IF d it works dat is Cos there wud hv bn an increase in Economics of Scale, Preditability, Management and a decrease in d Cost of productn...... Meanwhile, it is REALLY GREAT news that the very critical Benin-Onitsha 330KV Double circuit Transmission line is nearing completion. This line with 2 others (Afam-Jos and Alaoji-Warri-Onitsha), with some other shorter lines, are extremely critical in shoring up the Transmission infrastructure of Nigeria in the short and middle term to be able to wheel about 8500MW on-grid power successfully. Dont know the present state of the other two though.

Politics › 2 Days Blackout, For 6 States, Critical Transmission Line To Be Complet by taharqa(op): 6:13am On Jan 23, 2013
Six states of the federation will experience power outage on Saturday and Sunday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has said.

A statement issued by the Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Mr. Dave Ifabiyi, in Abuja on Tuesday, named the states as Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo and parts of Benue
.

According to Ifabiyi, the light out will enable the company’s contractors enhance the capacity of the transmission system that serves the affected areas.

He said, “In the bid to complete the final connection works on the new double circuit 330kV transmission line from Benin, in Edo State, to Onitsha, in Anambra State, and the associated substation at Onitsha, there will be power interruption to Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states in the eastern part of the federation, as well as parts of Benue State on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27, 2013.

“The crucial final connection works to be carried out by our contractors, having completed the stringing of 330kV double circuit transmission line across River Niger, aim at enhancing the transmission capacity in the area and improving grid power delivery and reliability nationwide
.”

Ifabiyi added that TCN regretted any inconveniences the two-day power interruption would cause the governments and people of the affected states.

As for the rest of your praise-singing I ask "What the $%&*@k are you on to write about GEJ's govt the following:
1. "when they say they'll do something, they generally deliver."
2. "noticeable improvements in Power, Rail, Communication, you name it."
3. "The economy is on the upswing."

If GEJ and his entire cabinet sleep 24hrs a day, 365 days a year...
...the Nigerian economy will still grow - it is called exporting crude oil.
It has not much to do with GEJ, so the question is what can GEJ add to it.

I hope GEJ will also claim responsibility when oil prices crash!!!

I hope GEJ repairs Federal Roads with fan-fare, though not lie-fare mind you

JUST YESTERDAY.....

Nigeria’s President Dr. Goodluck E. Jonathan, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today hosted the first meeting of Nigeria’s new Eminent Persons Group (EPG). The newly formed group of influential global leaders will advise the President on actions to help achieve Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda as well as provide a global platform for encouraging investment in Nigeria’s growing agricultural sector.

Members of the EMG include Bill Gates, co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Kofi A. Annan, Chair of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Kanayo Nwanze, President of the International Fund for Agriculture Development and Mohammed Abu-Ghazaleh Chairman and CEO of Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc.
Joining the EPG at the Geneva meeting were the Honorable Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Akinwumi Adesina, CON, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and other chief executive officers of global multinational and Nigerian corporations.

“Nigeria is undergoing rapid changes in its agriculture sector. We have stopped viewing agriculture as a development program, but now as a business that can assure food security, create wealth and generate jobs. Private sector investments are rising significantly as a result of our bold policy reform,” said President Goodluck. “I am confident that with the support of the private sector and the donor community, Nigeria’s agriculture will further drive economic growth and unlock new opportunities for millions of our farmers and agribusinesses.”

Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation Action Plan (ATAP), introduced last year by the Honourable Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, provides a comprehensive government strategy to reduce the cost of food imports, diversify the economy and develop rural areas of the country. The goal is to industrialize the sector making it more productive, efficient and competitive. Over the next five years, it is anticipated the plan will add 20 million tons of food to domestic supply and create 3.5 million jobs along the agricultural value chains.

“We ended decades of corruption in the fertilizer and seed sectors of Nigeria within just three months of this administration. We also introduced the use of electronic wallets to deliver subsidized inputs directly to farmers through their cell phones, reaching 1.2 million farmers. Our policy reforms and incentives have attracted eight billion dollars of private sector investment commitments so far,” said Adesina. “Based on our success, Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda will be a model for the rest of Africa to address food security and drive economic growth.”

“What Nigeria is doing in its agriculture sector is an example for the rest of Africa. That is why the African Development Bank is strongly supporting this agricultural transformation agenda. The political will is strong and the Minister is driving innovative ideas for change,” said Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank. “We will support Nigeria to further develop its agricultural infrastructure to ensure a positive investment climate for agribusiness.”

About the Agricultural Transformation Agenda

Transforming the agricultural sector is key to Nigeria’s strategy for growth and is driven under the new Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA). Introduced last year by the Honorable Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the ATA is the largest ever government-enabled private sector-led effort to grow agriculture in Nigeria. This comprehensive effort aims to increase domestic food production, reduce dependence on food imports and expand value addition to locally produced agricultural products. Through de-regulation, attractive financing, concentrated infrastructure investments, and competitive policies, the sector will be more productive, efficient and competitive. Specifically, the plan will add 20 million tons of food to domestic supply and create 3.5 million jobs by 2015.

My Guy, this is beyond politics; it should be beyond mere Sentiments and side-talks.
Sometime last year, CPC asked the President to dissolve his Cabinet, sack ALL his ministers EXCEPT the Agric Minister. This is CPC. Go figure.

We ought to pray and work, so that this move works so that it wold not be just like other moves we had taken before. If you are a TRUE NIGERIAN that should be your prayer and concern.

..Oh! You should also try asking yourself how you can take advantage of the HUGE opportunities opening in that sector, if yo are WISE...
Why can't the government float a group like Emirates and Qataris group backed by Nigeria's oil and gas majors. The group then invest in air transportation, infrastructure, etc. That way, the country will have her flag flown by aircraft owned by the group and Her major Hub will be Lagos for International and Abuja for internal. That anyone connecting with the Airline and flying to outside Nigeria will fly through Lagos, while those connecting internally will fly through Abuja. This is a model that has been operated for years by Emirates Group and the Qataris. Why can't we emulate these models huh
This could be a good suggestion. Could we pull something like this off by the smart use of the SWF?

.... But Wait o, was this not what OBJ was trying to o with TRANSCORP that didn't work out as planned huh

ROSSIKE: You have to give it to the Jonathan government..

It's a government of Action like we've not seen in a long time in this country.

I mean, there are noticeable improvements in Power, Rail, Communication, you name it. The economy is on the upswing. People are making money. Clean money with the power of ideas. The airports are being renovated. The federal roads are being fixed throughout the country, with very little fanfare.

And now, who in their right mind can doubt them when they say they're setting up a befitting national airline for the country?

You'd be absolutely crazy to doubt them, because when they say they'll do something, they generally deliver.
GOD Bless you.

I noticed the emboldened too. A traveler that went to parts of the Southeast after say 6 months would notice a significance difference in terms of the roads been reconstructed and/or repaired; Real noticeable difference, without the usual fanfare as you put it.

You mentiond Power, Road, Airports etc, but I just watched the work going on in the Oguta Inland River port (Imo state) courtesy of the so-called 'Good Governance Tour'. The port construction that started last year or so is almost complete (is expected to e complete by March at least, the same time that the two other River ports- at Baru and Lokoja- that are also been constructed are also expected to be completed). An already dredged River Niger and 4 new ports built within 2 years is simply the most critical improvements in the Inland Waterways of this nation since Independence. Great stuffs are in deed happening.

Just to say though that more should be done by the Govt in terms of Security. Just read that 12 persons were killed somewhere in Borno and another 6 in Kano on same day; really SAD in deed.
