PoliticsRe: Labaran Maku And His Team Visit Aregbesola by talktimi(m): 9:24am On Sep 29, 2013
mu2sa2: How does one compare this twosome? Well, Maku was a comrade in his undergraduate days at UNIJOS in the 1980s. Then, he chose to wear only a shirt and one pair of trousers every day- when those become unwearable from overuse he gets another set from the second-hand market, very likely at Terminus or Katako. Maku was just lucky to have been let to graduate because SSS were always after him because as students' Union activist he mobilized students several times to protest against govt policies, including the 2 kobo increase on the pump price of petrol by Babangida. After graduation, he roamed the streets for a while with his Pol. Science degree(placed on 3rd class, but clearly he deserved a higher grade) before he got a reporter job with champion newspaper. As a student Maku's religious affiliation was unknown to many, but now as a politian he is seen occasionally at christian gatherings. Maku surfaced later as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state.
Clearly, Maku has ceased to be a "comrade" going by his expensive Agbadas and N30-50,000 a-piece Borno caps as well as ironically his support for fuel-price increase by Gej. By contrast, Ogbeni Raufu dresses modestly - simple shakura of not-that-expensive cloth. He has a reputation as simple guy, not ostentatious, and he's said to be performing excellently as governor. Op above calls Ogbeni Raufu Taliban - that's how some critics view him.
Good to see this two fellows side-by-side.
so Maku's dressing is a problem to you now ? Pls learn to criticize constructively and for more important reasons abeg or is Ogbeni complaining about the way Maku dresses which is mostly traditional and shows that he is proud of his culture. Really, Nigerians are a difficult people to please

Modupe166: Y is it dt ur wife cant speak correct english?
i want you to consider this scenario very deeply especially as a woman. How would you feel if your husband who you suffered for years with when he had nothing decides to relegate you to the background immediately he had a change in status (in this case political) and became rich just because your command of the english language isnt good or you were fat and no longer beautiful ?

I gat a feelin, daaat funky feelin say it was either the students brought out this rejoinder or their final results will suddenly get K leg thereby pausing their law school waka for some years while investigations take place grin I joke i joke Bubut you dont expect the writer of the "open letter" to use his/her real name na, even going thru the famous proper channels can expose him to victimization from the pals of the accused lecturer. My only advice for students suffering such wahala is to try as much as possible to get video + audio evidence a la police stylee. SHIKENA
PoliticsRe: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by talktimi(m): 9:25pm On Sep 28, 2013
ojay0203: They twisted the story to fit their ambitions. They labelled an Ojukwu an ambitious warlord, who decided to lead a secession of the Igbos because they have oil reserves. In the process they covered the main reason that led Ojukwu to defend the Igbos. What happened to the Aburi accord? Can Gowon tell the truth? It's a shame that these same individuals are now statesmen. In reasonable countries, coup plotters and former dictators can never come out to be power players, when they should be cooling off in jails for their crime against humanity and democracy. These are the people that planted indiscipline in the army, which led to subsequent coups. If Gowon had not taken over and allowed the next in command to Ironsi to be in charge, justice would have been served. We could have been talking about a people with the nation in mind. From that moment in 1966 Nigeria became a country built on greed and injustice. That is why we have what we have today. We now have people who are more from their tribe and not from Nigeria. You can hardly find a Nigerian now. Every ethnic group wants to produce the next president qualified or not. Merit is no more the bases. Every body claims to be marginalized. At the end of the day the nationhood is marginalized. I weep!
truth is Ojukwu decided to secede because of the progrom going on especially in the northern part of Nigeria ie the mass killing of igbos in a genocidal fashion. Many at times, people on nairaland dont take Musiwa seriously but he actually mixes his craziness with valid truth. The eastern region as well as ANY other region in Nigeria then had a right to pull out of this nation if the terms of unity were no longer conducive. Gowon knows Ojukwu had the right and the Aburi conference in Ethiopia further legalized Ojukwu's stance as the ibos were being killed in droves, many selected from trains and lorries whilst escaping only to be shot by northern soldiers. These facts are documented, its not as if im just whipping up sentiments & the crux of the matter is, the original coup plotters did not carry out their original plan to the letter which involved killing ALL the top regional politicians. Ok

PoliticsRe: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by talktimi(m): 10:52pm On Sep 27, 2013
Why are people acting all surprised about this interview ? The facts about events leading up to the 1966 coup and the civil war have been documented in several books on both sides of the divide & Useni isnt saying anything far from what ive read previously. We as a nation only need to learn how to get our acts right if we really want to stay together as one peacefully even if we have to convene an SNC. Ps the Diya coup really took place, i dont know why some people are living in denial. Dude is lucky to be alive. Ok

PoliticsRe: Are You Interested In Moderating This Section? by talktimi(m): 3:25pm On Sep 27, 2013
dayokanu: Maybe you should direct this to Ibo posters who insisted on having 2 of their own

Anyone talking of balance must first address the current inbalance of having 2 incompetent Ibo moderators

By the way Kudos to Ilugunboy for putting Mr "I am Yoruba" in his place. If a person could be so ashamed of his own roots that he claims to be someone else, or suck up to every mod. You should know that he is not a balanced person
if we should follow your line of argument, it will imply that the hundreds of other ethnic groups which make up Nigeria and are represented here on nairaland should each have a moderator and that cant be possible which is why i say ethnicity should be cast aside while competence should be used as a yard stick to select the next mod. The reason i nominated Naptu even though we dont share the same political ideology is because he is consistently fair and matured when putting across his point of view in this politics section and always gives credit to whoever deserves it no matter the party affiliation, that doesnt mean im yoruba and i know thats why he had such massive support and nominations from members of this forum, its quite unfortunate he rejected the position. The summary of my long epistle is that the new mod should be selected based on competence and dedication alone. Ilugunboy and his opponent are just catching their fun and i believe one day many of us will get to meet each other and laugh things off over bottles of beer.

the question should actually be why cant Musiwa be made a moderator ? He is as eligible as the next man/woman & I tell you he will bring sanity to this politics section grin infact i dey take night bus to Canada so i can convince him personally to take up this national and noble assignment so as to serve us better.
Lilimax: Has Musiwa indicated his interest?
Some people being nominated are currently turning down the offer.
I was not happy when i learnt that Naptu2 declined his nomination. He would have made a good mod.
All the same, let the best candidate emerge smiley

suolboy: In as much as the piece is from an opposition to the president, but its the fact the our economy is collapsing. the minister of finance has said before, the ASUU strike is also a pointer to that fact, increased in oil theft in the niger delta and increased in corruption to the extent of an ex militant buying a private jet are very glaring that we heading to an economic collapse someday under this administration.
the ex militant you're talking about has come out openly to deny ever buying a private jet though i know he is rich enough to afford and maintain one due to the businesses he is into. Lets stick to facts. Ok
