Who do we believe, economists and financial experts (both foreign & local) or angry politicians ? I still believe those in leadership positions across all strata should as a matter of honesty and patriotism should stop the over inflation of contracts, we've heard how a state govt uses a billion naira to construct a km of road. The national assembly members should take an at least 70% cut in all financial emoluments accruable to them and they should also be paid on a part time basis, the presidential fleet of aircraft should be slashed by half, all sectors of the transportation sector should be revamped ie rail, road and marine across all states and the federal level while subsidy on petroleum products should be removed totally (after the govt and private investors would have built more refineries) if these few ideas are implemented, i assure you our revenue base will increase in an exponential geometric progression.

Very commendable effort by the governor as this will help in the speedy handling of cases generally in that jurisdiction in relatively comfortable environment. I only urge our judiciary to look into the aspect of community service as a punishment for minor offenders as this will greatly reduce the incidence of awaiting trial inmates who are by far more than convicted felons in our prison system not only in Lagos state but all over Nigeria.

you see, i like as you brought up this issue of jumbo pay being received by our NA members, it shows that your head dey there well well. My argument has always been that our assembly members should as a matter of urgent patriotism take an at least 70% cut in all financial emoluments accruable to them and also be paid on a part time basis if possible a stipend per sitting as being a member of the NA isnt a full time job by any stretch of the imagination. The fact that they do not waste time when deliberating and implementing on their salaries + other entitlements is a serious cause for concern and whats even more shameful is that non of our amiable "progressives" in both chambers have deemed it fit to reject such stupendous allowances or better still move a motion for a reduction of such wicked salaries. A motion such as that is sure to win the sympathy of a generality of the masses to the noble cause of the APC instead of the usual pattern of mud slingings, character assasinction and smear campaigns that seems to be the other of the day especially amongst the online supporters.

Mayor_of_Lagos: Politics section is the single most active and volatile forum on Nairaland. Transparency at the top is vrry important so there is no perception of bias. Currently we dont have that. There is a disconnect between members and mods. Members should have a respectful relationship with mods; repeated floggings of members with draconian rules will not achieve that.

Similarly, there is need for recognition that our interaction here is fed directly from inputs in society and media and a somewhat flexible discretion is needed to treat or dispose a rule violation.

Merit or no merit, the ethnic background of our modrrators should be balanced. Again, this is politics, not entertainment or technology or health and food sections. In those other places I mentioned the affairs of their interaction is inherently ethnic-blind.
