Nairaland has 1.7 million members?

1. False

2. True

Answer.
I dont know what you hope to achieve with this question, its obvious you didnt play the game.

Look at viki.z's example on the first page.

The question was how many men were in jesus' tomb?

In his first trial, he chose 2 and was wrong because mark 16:5 states that there was one man dressed in white in the tomb

He tried the same question again, and chose 1 but was still wrong because luke 24:4 states that there were two men dressed in shining garments in the tomb

Admitedly, the website is for mockery grin ....but you cant blame them, can you?

Something is incorrect, its technically correct at the same time.

Do u know what "technically" means at all? huh
lol , bro if the bible wasnt contradictory, then we wouldnt have this problem? grin

For example if this was a school exam, and you're a student with the bible as your lecture note, can you confront your lecturer for giving you an F after this test?

You might think yes you can, and ofcourse you can because your answers are biblically correct. But your lecturer is also right for failing you , because your biblically correct answers are also biblically wrong grin .....chai see wahala grin

I know, both answers are set to be incorrect, so anyone who plays must score 0. The point is they are also technically correct at the same time, when you consider another bible verse. huh

Christianity EtcRe: Is Homosexuality Normal? by taurus25(m): 7:15pm On Nov 29, 2016
In the past normalcy(is it a word?) was defined mainly on the basis of the societal norms or general practice. For example, it was seen as "not normal" for women to propose or woo a man in many parts of the world. Most people find nothing inherently wrong in such practise these days.

There has always and would probably always be far more heterosexual people than homosexuals, this gave an idea of homo sexuals being "not normal" in virtually every part of the world in the past. Today most countries know better and are abolishing anti LGBT laws.

Sexuality is medically indeterminable, we are just the way we are. There is nothing ethically wrong with having homosexuals in society, neither can anyone's sexual practise affect our individual lives. If you have ethical issues with homosexuality open a thread lets iron it out.

Great post. I know most of the people above me didnt read through. The brain in a very powerful and complicated machine, i like how you pointed out that mind conditioning can make a person experience an unreal phenomema.

Beliefs like this trive in this part of the world mainly because of stark illiteracy sometimes not neccesarily just religion alone. Why i said so is because many countries in the west for example that have relatively high population of religious adherents dont run to churches in cases like yours, they rather seek medical help immediately.

Theres no way a person experiencing mental schizophrenia wouldnt be tagged as a demon possed individual in this part of the world.

One big problem is that topics like this wouldnt be treated as an avenue to learn and abandon this dark state we africans find ourselves in, but rather an attack on religion and religious beliefs. Its truely pitable.

Christianity EtcRe: Theist Intelligent Creation Or Atheist Spontaneous Universe by taurus25(m): 9:58am On Nov 27, 2016
shadeyinka:
I agree with you, no law of Physics before the Big Bang.
But the issue is that almost all laws came as a result of Matter/Energy. The laws then interacted with matter and the case become like the case of the chicken and the egg. I believe that the first mass that appeared after the big bang appeared by following a rule(law).

Everything seems like the universes was formed as a result of some mighty probabilistic coincidence since except there were billions of Big bangs of which that which formed our universe is just one of them. But even if this is the case, we expect that the Big bang that created this universe will be proceeded by several others in the near future.

It sounds like our universe evolved over a long time after the big Bang. Should we not be asking questions also about when did the first electron or neutron or others evolved. Did the atoms of elements evolve from simpler materials.
If this is true, then the question of when did the laws of Physics start operating. Did the laws appear spontaneously or progressively.
Then, another question is which is these laws are first to seed the other laws.

We know of the four fundamental forces. Is it possible to say which came first. (I assume the forces are responsible for setting the other laws.)

Your point is understandable. However, the issue remains that would EM waves still be if the speed of light is off by 5%? Would atoms form? A change in the value of just one constant changes drastically many physical laws. If there is no guarantee of a universe like this appearing, there may also be no guarantee of other kinds of universe appearing.

If Matter came first, then matter itself self assembled in a random manner and selection probably favoured some ordered form. The underlining rules of these ordered ones are what we call the laws of physics. Can you see why it looks like the universe also experienced its own evolution?

The laws are measurements of descriptions of the order in matter.
If this is true, it still points to the problem of how order came into matter.

Except you expatiate, I think there is harmony. You will find a simple example in the law of conservation of energy. You can simply change energy from one form into another and write beautiful equations that describes it perfectly. There is sure harmony.

Yes not proof of multi-universe except in theoretical physics/mathematics can they be implied.

Thanks for your comments.

I like thinking out of the Box especially with Physics. It seems there are many things we take for-granted because of our "beautiful equations".

I kind of think that, if the Big bang resulted into the Universe and the laws of Physics and its constants are measurements of the order within matter, How did matter get so organized?

I expect the big bang to result in randomness if it is true but experience is saying contrary. Then, I think like, Maybe just as in Biology, we can talk about evolution and natural selections?

I am a Theist and I understand that I could be biased BUT these questions still begs for an answer. Yes, the Universes is expanding but can we say for sure that it was as a result of a big Bang. Couldn't it be that the universe is oscillating (with a period of millions of years) and the seeming expansion is just our measurement within the window plane of which we are?

Thanks again.
Thank you....you've said some really interesting things here, i would try to respond later.
Christianity EtcRe: Theist Intelligent Creation Or Atheist Spontaneous Universe by taurus25(m): 11:45pm On Nov 25, 2016
However, the Big Bang couldn't have resulted into order except the laws of Physics existed before the Bang
Wow..... this doesnt make any sense. There were no laws of physics before the bang, the laws by which we observe the macro universe to obey today came after matter began to exist. Matter came as a result of quantum interactions in the high energy environment which was the state of the early universe. Such interactions are a scientific fact as massive particles have created by scientists using high energy accelerators, hence the creation of matter from a quantum vaccum(nothing).

So, after the bang, matter came, and the behaviour of this matter in interaction with each other observed over time and possibly empirically tested gives rise to natural laws that explain how things work in the universe.

If just one of these constant change by less than 0.01%, the universe would not have existed and all the laws of physics presented below may not hold.
This universe and all its contents are the way they are because that is just what we came to experience. If these constants are different. stars may not form but maybe something else might come in place and there might be laws that would govern such an alternate world, natural laws, but not just like ours.

So, the question is:
Which came first,
1. Matter or the Laws and constants of Physics
Matter.......and the behaviour of this matter are the laws of physics.

2. What determined the constants?
Did they come by accident?
They are just what they are.

3. Doesn't the harmony suggest Creation/Intelligent Design?
To a large extent, there isnt any harmony.

4. Is there any physical proof of multi-universe?
There is non.

How do they arrive at the coming together of a man and a woman?

Shouldn't a male atheist marry 10 women at the same time? How do atheists arrive at the need for a man to get married to one woman?

So a man can steal some portion of God's commandments and still claim ignorant of God's existence? Interesting.

Easy bro I aint using vulgar words against anyone and its just a question not a war zone. So you saying you can do it which plainly contradicts your belief? Wow
It doesnt contradict anything, an atheist can marry in church, it doesnt automatically make them believers. Many christains these days dont attend church, does it make them atheists?

Questons like this come as a result of the belief that all atheists are hostile to everything religious, this is not entirely the case. Personally
i see no issues with me having a church wedding, although all the churchy joining and godly whatever would be formalities to me kiss

Believe it or not you may have encountered countless number of atheists in your life which you'd have no idea were atheists. Atheism is not really a thing, its just not believing in any god.

A bit late to the party.
There are already excellent responses and I sight our resident astronomer in sight but let me add my two cents kobo (cents in this time of recession ke angry cheesy)

What is a scientific law??

"A scientific law is a statement describing an observed regularity among facts, usually expressed in mathematics."

Good enough, well enough, but what are factshuh

For instance, one can come to the erroneous assumption that the Sun rises and sets. That is a "fact" based on observation of the phenomena as it regularly occurs. One can certainly not blame them for seeing it that way; given the limited knowledge they had.
It was a "fact" to them.

But still they were wrong.

Their scientific law;which was the frame work for the HelioCentric theory was skewed; hence their theory is wrong.

This is not a new thing; it has been happening through the centuries preceding and after the Scientific Revolution.

Trusted or assumed facts are found to be false and law are modified; theory are mowed down. In the most extreme cases (relativity; quantum- wave mechanics, evolution); a new line of thinking has to arise from the ashes of the old one.

I digress, of course. Pardon moi.

You ask; is there such a thing as laws in Physics.
I say;
In the sense that laws from physics are born from observations made, tried and rigorously tested, yes there are laws. These laws hold through and can be held reliable........at least in the real world. Newton's Law of gravity; Maxwell's electromagnetic laws.
Solid, straight and dependable

When we go to quantum mechanics; it becomes tricker though. The guidelines seem to be off and orderliness jumbles into a mass of chaos.

But does this mean there are no lawshuh

I think not!

Quantum physics is a relatively new area of physics. It's not even a century old yet.
Compounding the problem here is that we're still trying to use the theories and laws that work in the real and macro world as a sort of guide.
Kind of like using Google Earth when driving in the villages of Osun. (Kole werk grin).
It just won't work!

I feel physicists should treat quantum mechanics as a totally different branch.
Rather than puzzle and quibble over how and why quantum mechanics is so different; they should just IGNORE the disrepancies.

I liken it to this analogy.

A person who has been living all his life in Europe comes to an Osun village, suddenly.
Obviously; the priviledges and perks he knows won't apply (imagine if he was a stock broker); and he would probably get nowhere if he stubbornly tries to effect the rules he knows.

But, if he decides to calm down; shed the cityboy skin he's developed and try to get along with this society; he'll gain acceptance and knowledge!

This knowledge might not have made sense to his former self (imagine; throwing money and foodstuffs into the Osun river) but his new self will understand its supposed importance.

And once he is a fully integrated member of the village, with extensive knowledge of the community; well; I won't be surprised if he found similarities between his old life and his new one.

Perhaps he might even find the ultimate Holy Grail:

The connection between the two seperate bizzare systems.

For it was from these chaotic, semi-civilized villages that great empires rose.

Same goes for physcis
Nice one bro ...the quantum world is really interesting.....

Any thoughts on the EM drive?

For now we may have to seperate this two worlds, despite the fact that they are in the same universe. It may be that the law governing the quantum world is "randomness" or "no law" .
possibly true, what we need is a scientific breakthrough to decode the quantum world. What ever lies within the realms of the quantum world might be what we need to crack the mystery behind the birth of the universe, because i strongly believe the both worlds must be linked together some how.

The real and the quantum worlds are like parallel lines that will never meet(reaching a consensus) but yet the later is the origin of the former. I'm i making sense?
Youre not completely off track on this brother. I think the quantum world is responsible for the real world also, but i also believe they can both be linked someway somehow.

But in the macro world, there are forms of nature that seem to take part in the quantum party. Like the pattern/randomness in which plants/trees/flowers follow during their growth, shape/movement of an amoeba, and on a larger scale, the arrangements of stars(constellations)...
But these patterns are continous and constant, hence are predictable which brings are about formulation of laws and theories to explain how these things operates due to observations over time..this is basically the scientific process. The problem arises when certain things tend to disobey these laws. The macro world is fairly stable and predictable to a large extent, for example mathematical laws hold for the entirety of the universe( at least its expected to based on what we have observed so far.

Probably in years to come, mathematicians and physicists would work closely to decode the cosmos code, then we may begin to understand the quantum party.
I hope so too. Thank you so much for your contributions so far....very much appreciated.
