I've noticed that a lot of Nigerian graduates like to quote Wikipedia as a reliable or reputable source of factual information. This is completely wrong and one of the first things students are warned against in universities in the UK. The patent certificate I posted and your Wikipedia based assertions buttresses this fact.
That's true.

I see. the Aboki is skilled. Maybe the Wikipedia article highlighted the designer of the working mechanism of the car and not the body designer.

My fear is that the Nigerian system doesnt kill this guy's tech skills by turning him into another babanriga wearing politician.

You have fallen for conspiracy talk
He did not say Osinbajo cannot finish the current term
He said they will not allow Osinbajo rule in 2019

Read it again

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/osinbajo-cannot-replace-buhari-2019-anything-happens-pmb-northern-elders/

Nobody can say Osinbajo cannot rule NOW
That will be treason - and the person will go to jail
I am serious

What is actually nauseating is the fallacy that Northerners are perfect idiots
Now tell me the benefits of a coup to a Northerner right now?

If I were in Buratai's shoes, I would do the same
A coup now will harm the North

Mr Ayeni, without what you call "evil" turn by turn, no Yoruba will ever become president
What stops the North rotating it with just one region in the South?
You know what?....Jonathan has taught them a lesson by contesting as it was his right(even though I don't see him qualified to have been a president). That fear of osinbajo reneging on zoning agreement just as Jonathan did is what they are preemptive about.

I believe northerners don't care if its a dictator or civilian president that rules as long as its a northerner. so...the coup thing would be a device to put osinbajo in check.

in all honesty.... do you think zoning should be the formula for a society to select a leader?

Mr Ayeni

Don't allow yourself to be fooled
What is in a coup for the North now?
Murtala was killed and Obasanjo continued for 3.5 years
Osinbajo cannot do more than 2years from now

Why ruin long term credibility just for the sake of 2 years
We have Obasanjo period as a fact
We can have Osinbajo period as a fact

Why will Fani Kayode's conspiracy theory supersede facts?
My good friend....there are no conspiracy theory in Nigeria o. If it walks like a dog, barks like a dog....you know what it is. We heard a northern source some days ago say openly that even if buhari dies(God forbid), that Osinbajo won't be allowed to rule. look at how that "coordinator" phrase was smuggled into Buhari's letter to the senate.

Buratai himself sounded a warning to coup plotters. if he didn't see nothing, he wouldn't have said nothing. The sense of entitlement of the north is becoming nauseating.

. Both APC and PDP are operating the evil turn by turn system dictated by the northerners in both parties...the yorubas in APC have agreed to that....the Igbos in PDP have agreed to it too....our southern leaders are only against zoning only when the tide is against them....instead of standing up to them.

You have a point.

Natural gifts don't only have to be music and sports.
There are people who are naturally wired for math.

If only the ones with the flair for science and engineering related courses get to read them in our universities.

Don't you think the universities are churning out way too many unskilled graduates?

I think so. And it stems from people who have no business being there getting in there.
I agree that unskilled labour is being churned out......however this is not because the students were mismatched with courses or because they are naturally unfit to study in the university, but because of the low quality of foundational education that doesn't prepare them well for the uni. but generally we are on the same point sha.

You've made very valid points

Have you also considered the influence of parents and family?

Many people are forced into frustrating careers by "ambitious" parents.

These parents would want their son to be a medical doctor when the guy really would have done better as a singer (Look at Dr Sid)

Just imagine what would have happened if Jay Jay Okocha's parents had INSISTED on forcing him into the university.

Apart from the proposed bill, parents should encourage their kids to follow their own natural gifts early.

It could help both decongest our universities and empower young people to start fending for themselves early in life.

Thank you
Enough of this talk about "natural gifts" and stuff like that. Nigeria doesn't need more of Dr Sid or Okocha. what we need is to encourage kids to study science and engineering related courses more. I won't blame any parent that steers their kids in that direction. Why would any sane society want to decongest universities.....na wa of

Stupid Bill! Why wait till the youth finishes university to now give them vocational/ entrepreneurial skills. Why not have this incorporated right from primary school to secondary school so that by that time the youth can make an informed decision on their career path. To decide if they want to go to university or polytechnic. To decide if they even want to further education or go into business!
I swear it seems our leaders don't debate ideas to weed out the stupid ones such as this one.

instead of finding a way to update the curricula of tertiary institution and finding a way to make them practical.....they are busy churning out ideas that will ultimately end up as conduit for embezzlement and waste.

Life is not always as straight as you just made it seem. Every society don't deserve the kind of leaders they have. Do you know about imposition and manipulation? Nigerians were great people before the Whites came and introduced some new concepts to us. I appreciate some of the good things they did but in the process they planted some really bad seeds. How they made sure they amalgamated NOrthern and Southern Nigeria despite knowing it will never work to how they made sure power went to the North despite knowing they were least qualified. How they caused division and planted corruption from the foundation of NIgeria. These seeds germinated into some unqualified people ruling over more educated and literate people which gave rise to hatred and animosity. Which later gave birth to crisis and corruption. corruption gave rise to people trying to form new method of adaptation. When the system is bad, humans will naturally try to formulate new ways to adapt. All the problem of NIgeria can be traced to the Europeans. Read the history of Bini and you will see how sadistic the Europeans are. or better still, that of Jaja of Opobo. All blames still lies on the Europeans. Our only fault is our weakness which I agree is a very big offense.
from jaja of opobo to Bini history to the amalgamation of The southern and the northern protectorate and even to the black American society, I agree with you that injustice and has been done....but then, That's history.....we should have by now risen above the effects of all that. With the reasonable level of autonomy we have as a country. America itself was manipulated and imposed upon, yet they conquered.

If we continue accepting ourselves the way we are....we will never stop being the victim. Let's set higher standards for ourselves.

It will surprise you how many Americans make knockoffs to riches. That isn't the problem, but also the mindset of the Nigerians. The maker of what you condemn is only presenting what people WANT. You are not a business person and I don't expect you to understand.

How many made in Nigerian products have "made in Nigeria" stamped on them? Ever thought that and ask yourself why?
You maybe right....that the maker was presenting what people wanted. But doesn't it say something about who we are?....when majority of us buy pirated and faked items....we are always looking for short cuts.....both the makers and the consumers. Short cut to riches....shortcut to success. doesnt matter at whose expense.

Yes you may also be right that he is not a Nigerian business person. Because, if you do things the right way here....you most likely won't succeed. So we are back to the same point....the point being that.....there is something wrong that we need to correct

I know all about that my friend....neo colonialism and imperialism....but you have to admit regardless of the root causes that this society is deeply broken and the general psyche is shattered. Then we can begin to find remedies for our illness.

if you think our leaders are the ones selling us out and not fighting the controls and devices of neo colonialists, remember this.....a society deserve the kind of leaders they have, for they came from amongst us.

Every society has at one time or the other in history been conquered and subjugated.....but what makes the difference is if that society possesses the critical mass of brave , honest , strong characters to fight back mental or physical slavery with swords or with brains.
Where are the heroes of west Africa.

Are all Northerners Boko haram? Are all Muslim Terrorists? Are all Pastors corrupt? No one is say that article is wrong. The generalization is the core issue.

If you say you are a criminal, Fine bruh.. Don't put all of us in the same bracket or basket.. Corruption is a thing we all have to tackle..

Don't start throwing words around like you've met all 180 million Nigerians and they all duped you..
I saw a dirty looking Chinese man being protected by a police man today and I felt terrible....is everybody in Nigeria a kidnapper?...no....
In Borno the fear of boko haram is the beginning of wisdom.... yet everybody in Borno is no terrorist...most cyber crimes are carried out by southwesteners....not all yorubas are criminals....most caught drug pushers are easterners....but not all igbos are drug peddlers.

The moment your society begins to get stereotyped with a particular vice....know its time to do something about it. We are a society in denial.

That's why I don't knock people that stereotype others....its a form of defense mechanism. And all humans do it at first, but then relax their defense once you know that that person on an individual basis.

High majority of them are addicted to drugs. All the societal ills are very high in the socalled First World countries. You'll appreciate what you have when you see what others have turned into.
There are criminals and there are criminals. what matters most in a society is the amount of criminals that face justice....you need to come here to see and read about the number of crimes that go in investigated , unsolved to appreciate the level of decay here....

I'm talking about crimes against another human being....not being gay or transgender or drug addict. I'm talking about the number of murders....I don't have the statistics...but I'm pretty sure we have three times the number if murder in America here in Nigeria if not more
