MaxInDHouse: You're not reading my posts along with the scriptures, you just want to argue!
Zacchaeus promised to give half (not all) {Luke 19:8} and Jesus said Salvation has entered Zacchaeus's house! Luke 19:9
So instead of arguing blindly learn how to apply scriptures appropriately because if you're saying what is not applicable anywhere it means you're simply condemning Jesus for setting up a standard that couldn't be applied by even you yourself! Chief I think you are beginning to make a fool of yourself. The scripture I quoted has nothing to do with Zacchaeus. I understand you are trying to be overzealous. But I suggest you calm down. Jesus never told Zacchaeus to give his wealth, It was his choice. It was repentance for his evils. But then there was a rich young man who came to Christ and asked what he would do to be saved. that's what I quoted. You remind me of Paul's letter to the Philippians Philippians 1.12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear. 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this, I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, You may have a Foul temperament but as long as you preach Christ, I accept you. |

MaxInDHouse: NO! That's a big LIE! Jesus could do so as there's no dependants (wife or children) that's why he could sleep and wake up anywhere he finds himself, so far it's the house of an interested Israelites, Jesus is comfortable with his ministry! Matthew 8:20
Jesus' life and ministry was only within the boarders of Israel because that's the only race he was sent to prepare for the global preaching campaign {Matthew 10:6; 15:24} but later when he wanted to send his followers to go beyond the boarders of Israel he changed the rules by telling them that they need money and other provisions which they must WORK for {Luke 22:35-36} this rule must change because God has already prepared the Israelites for the arrival of the Christ who will teach them how to go and bless other nations. Genesis 12:3 God put it in the laws He gave them that they must be hospitable and generous to strangers {Exodus 22:21 compare to Leviticus 25:35} that's why Jesus instructed his followers not to prepare anything for their ministry within the boarders of Israel {Matthew 10:9-10} because God's law says they must take good care of strangers! But when Jesus is sending them out to other nations {Act 1:8} they must care for themselves that's why they need to work for money {Act 18:3} unlike Jesus who never did any secular works after his baptism!
May you have PEACE! First, it's not recorded if Jesus did secular work or not. But then you have to recall that like Jesus, the early Apostles gave all for the Gospel. He sent them forth and told them to take no thought. they were told to go without a purse. Peter James and John left their profession and followed him. The rich young man was commanded to sell all he has and follow Jesus. Matthew 19.21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” This man was required to give 100% to achieve perfection. Its the same for us all 100% is required |

When you say something is voluntary it simply means that both those who donated and none donors will be blessed. But in this case none donors are CURSED. So stop deceiving yourself that is no more voluntary. Even God never referred to the TITHE as a voluntary donation:
“You MUST without fail give a tenth of everything your seed produces in the field year by year" Deuteronomy 14:22
God never referred to TITHING as voluntary but a MUST I am not such people go to jil for nat paying tithe. The bible tells us that we are free to choose |

Truth is, we are supposed to follow the example of Jesus Christ and give all we have for the kingdom. All our money, time, and effort. That is the standard. So when the Lord through an ordained leader asks us to pay tithe, who are we to say no. Or has the Lord stopped speaking to his servants. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Only Jehovah's Witnesses Not Emphasize Tithing by tctrills: 9:39am On Sep 21, 2021 |
MaxInDHouse: The TITHE is not part of voluntary contribution because it comes with stipulated amount based on the rate of the worshipers income!
The OP is talking about this particular law and not voluntary contributions that comes from the heart as in what the worshipers resolved to give voluntarily. That's why God told non-tithers in Israel that they are robbing HIM! Malachi 3:8-9 All contributions are voluntary. I can't remember God forcing anyone to pay tithe. The widow that gave 100% was not forced either. But her blessings were much more than the others |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Only Jehovah's Witnesses Not Emphasize Tithing by tctrills: 8:56am On Sep 21, 2021 |
The first recorded form of church contribution was Abraham paying tithe even before the law of Moses. Then came the law of Moses and tithe was a part of it. Then came Jesus, he never really spoke of church contribution except in the case of the widow's mite. Luke 21.1-4 21 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” The widow did not give 10% but 100% and her blessings were more for giving her all to God. Then, in the early church in Jerusalem, the disciples sold all they have and lay it at the feet of the apostles. Here again, they gave their 100%. Finally, we have Apostle Paul talking about weekly contributions to the Corinthians. Who's example do we follow, Abraham, the Law of Moses, The widow, The early disciples, or the church of the Corinthians? Or maybe they all are right. Or do we follow the example of Jesus and give all we have for his Gospel? (LUKE 11:42) But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Christ did not rule away Tithe. He said These you ought to have done but not neglecting the others. Every church has a donation system and everyone that gives to the Lord has a special blessing for it. |

No where in the Bible anyone was told to give 100%, those that did it, did so to allivate poverty among themselves. they gave all they had to alleviate poverty, very interesting theory. So they gave all they had to the church and somehow, that ended poverty? so let's just agree that the early Apostles were not told to do this, it was not a commandment from God but the Apostles invented this as a means to end poverty? I suggest modern churches could also revert back to this as poverty is still a big issue. Church members should bring all they have to the church at the feet of the Apostles. |

Here in Nigeria if you ride bicycle on major roads people just keep staring at you because they don't see it as common thing. Some even see it as a sign of poverty, everyone wanna drive exotic cars so they can get noticed...
What people don't Know is that bicycle is actually a faster means of transportation to move within a city rather than waiting all day long in your car stucked in traffic. A journey you Would spend 2hrs With your car stucked in traffic you would spend less than an hour with a bicycle.. I strongly think Nigerians should adopt this method most especially in Lagos.. fancy cars is not everything.. bicycle saves time and it's cheaper to afford..if we adopt this method I can tell you traffic would drastically reduce in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole If you buy bicycle no one is stopping you from using it |

DappaD: Tithing was a requirement under the Mosaic Law. The Israelites had to give a tenth of their belongings to priests serving at the temple while those priests at the temple would give a tenth of what they received to the High Priest that came from Aaron’s descent. Numbers 18:21-30
My question is, the people who claim to pay tithes today, are they paying it to the natural Levites and those who descended from the family of Aaron? Because from what we know, the former covenant God had with the fleshly Israelites was done away with(Jeremiah 31:31) when Jesus became the High Priest(Hebrews 6:20) and became the mediator of a new covenant. Hebrews 9:15
Excuse me, tithing only became an obligation/commandment when the covenant associated with the Mosaic Law was established. Deuteronomy 14:22
Prior to that, there was never any command in the book of Genesis that the patriarchs had to give a tenth of what they had. Abraham and Jacob gave simply because they wanted to, not because they were commanded. If you don’t agree, you’ll have to show me where Isaac offered up any such tithes since you claim it was a law.
Read the Bible for yourself!
Ephesians 2:15 “By means of his flesh he abolished the enmity, the Law of commandments consisting in decrees, in order to make the two groups in union with himself into one new man and to make peace,”
Other Scriptures to support this include:
Romans 10:4 “Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have righteousness.”
Colossians 2:13,14 “Furthermore, though you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcised state of your flesh, God made you alive together with him. He kindly forgave us all our trespasses and erased the handwritten document that consisted of decrees and was in opposition to us. He has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake.”
Hebrews 7:8,12 vs 8 “And in the one case, it is men who are dying who receive tithes, but in the other case, it is someone of whom witness is given that he lives.”
vs 12 “For since the priesthood is being changed, it becomes necessary to change the Law as well” Like earlier stated, Abraham and the ancient father's did not give the Lord 10% of their wealth because they just felt like. That's never how it happened. It was because it was the right thing to do in the sight of God. In our religion, we don't just do whatever we feel like but what the Lord require's of us. In religion, man does not dictate how to worship. Our worship can only come as revelation from God. If Abraham was inventing his own worship, then it is Apostasy. Abraham was commanded to pay tithes. It was not his own creation Again let me stress that all forms of church donations are voluntary. The early Christians gave all and shared all things in common. How many churches do that today? |

DappaD: Wow. I wonder where the words in bold were stated in the Bible. And that word “required” is such a strong word, don’t you think? Funny because such reasoning is not found anywhere in the New Testament. Whoever had to give was to give willingly, you never had the apostles tell anybody what they had to do(Acts 4:34) in fact Peter mentioned that if Ananias and Sapphira had chosen not to sell their field, it would have been totally fine and okay. Acts 5:4
The tithing arrangement of 10% was abolished and is not in force amongst true Christians.
1Corinthians 16:2 “On the first day of every week, each of you should set something aside according to his own means, so that collections will not take place when I arrive.”
Notice that Paul didn’t specify what each member of the congregation was supposed to contribute, he didn’t mention any 10% or 100% but he said according to the person’s means and it should be from a willing heart in order to please God(2Corinthians 9:7) not someone who merely wants to give as a duty. If you notice, neither was the person who gave promised good health, good job etc etc as Churches in Christendom practice when one gives. You used the word willingly and I agree. We are not forced to keep any commandment. Then you said tithe was abolished but you failed to quote any scripture to prove it. I agree, no one should be forced to contribute but that isn't the discussion here. The early Christian's sold all and lay it at the feet of the apostles and still they were asked to donate every week. Now let it be noted that the tithe isn't the law of Moses. It's the law of God to his people and it was before Moses. If the law was abolished, it would have been revealed. In summary, the bible speaks of at least 3 kinds of donations 1. Tithe 2. Weekly contributions 3. Giving 100% None was abolished for the other at any time.. I stand to be corrected. |

Again, do your research, the JW are not the only ones that don't pay tithe. I know a few envegelical churches in the US that don't pay. They only make contributions. Finally, in the new testement, Christians were required to give 10% but 100%. They were asked to sell all they have and give all to the church. Those who held anything back were stuck dead. Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened To The Spirit of Man At Death? by tctrills(op): 7:53am On Sep 19, 2021 |
chatinent: Hello.
The Bible was referring to the resurrection.
In the Bible, the word translated as “resurrection” comes from the Greek a·naʹsta·sis, which means “raising up” or “standing up again.” A person who is resurrected is raised up from death and restored to life as the person he was before.—1 Corinthians 15:12, 13.
Although the word “resurrection” is not in the Hebrew Scriptures, often called the Old Testament, the teaching appears there. Through the prophet Hosea, for example, God promised: “From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; from death I will recover them.”—Hosea 13:14; Job 14:13-15; Isaiah 26:19; Daniel 12:2, 13.
Where will people be resurrected? Some people are resurrected to life in heaven to rule as kings with Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:1; Revelation 5:9, 10) The Bible calls this “the first resurrection” and “the earlier resurrection,” both expressions implying that there is another resurrection to follow. (Revelation 20:6; Philippians 3:11) This later resurrection will be to life on earth, which the vast majority of those brought back to life will enjoy.—Psalm 37:29.
How are people resurrected? God grants Jesus the power to raise the dead. (John 11:25) Jesus will restore “all those in the memorial tombs” to life, each one with his unique identity, personality, and memories. (John 5:28, 29) Those resurrected to heaven receive a spirit body, while those resurrected to life on earth receive a healthy physical body, completely sound.—Isaiah 33:24; 35:5, 6; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 50.
Who will be resurrected? The Bible says that “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15) The righteous include faithful people, such as Noah, Sarah, and Abraham. (Genesis 6:9; Hebrews 11:11; James 2:21) The unrighteous include those who failed to meet God’s standards but did not have the opportunity to learn and follow them.
However, those who become so wicked that they are beyond reform will not be resurrected. When such ones die, they suffer permanent destruction with no hope of a return to life.—Matthew 23:33; Hebrews 10:26, 27.
When will the resurrection take place? The Bible foretold that the resurrection to heaven would take place during Christ’s presence. (1 Corinthians 15:21-23) The resurrection to life on earth will occur during the Thousand Year Reign of Jesus Christ, when the earth will be transformed into a paradise.—Luke 23:43; Revelation 20:6, 12, 13.
Why is belief in the resurrection reasonable? The Bible provides detailed accounts of nine resurrections, each confirmed by eyewitnesses. (1 Kings 17:17-24; 2 Kings 4:32-37; 13:20, 21; Luke 7:11-17; 8:40-56; John 11:38-44; Acts 9:36-42; Acts 20:7-12; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6) Jesus’ resurrection of Lazarus is especially noteworthy, since Lazarus had been dead for four days and Jesus performed the miracle before a crowd of people. (John 11:39, 42) Even those who opposed Jesus could not deny the facts of the matter, so instead they plotted to kill both Jesus and Lazarus.—John 11:47, 53; 12:9-11.
Three resurrections as recorded in the Bible: a widow’s child, a Christian woman, and Jesus’ friend Lazarus.
The Bible shows that God has both the ability and the desire to bring back the dead. He keeps in his limitless memory a detailed record of each person he will resurrect by means of his almighty power. (Job 37:23; Matthew 10:30; Luke 20:37, 38) God is able to restore the dead to life, and he wants to! Describing the coming resurrection, the Bible says of God: “You will long for the work of your hands.”—Job 14:15.
Misconceptions about the resurrection Myth: The resurrection is a reuniting of the soul with the body.
Fact: The Bible teaches that the soul is the entire person, not some part that survives death. (Genesis 2:7, footnote; Ezekiel 18:4) A person who is resurrected is not reunited with his soul; he is recreated as a living soul.
Myth: Some people are resurrected and then immediately destroyed.
Fact: The Bible says that “those who practiced vile things” will receive “a resurrection of judgment.” (John 5:29) However, this judgment is based on what they do after they are resurrected, not before. Jesus said: “The dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who have paid attention will live.” (John 5:25) Those who ‘pay attention’ to, or obey, the things they learn after they are resurrected will have their names recorded in “the scroll of life.”—Revelation 20:12, 13.
Myth: When resurrected, a person receives exactly the same body that he had before he died.
Fact: After death, a person’s body would likely have broken down and disintegrated.—Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20.
Thanks. Sir, you wrote so much, I would have loved to reply all but let's see what I can do. First. You did not in anyway or form answer my question. My question was, what happened to the spirit of man at death. I was asking about the consciousness of the spirit at death. Happy Sunday to my beautiful people. I have another question from the bible. The book of Ecclesiastes 9.10 says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
From this scripture, it seems there is no consciousness at death. So my question is, what happened to the spirit ofor man at death? Let me quote a few other scriptures, this time from the new testament. John 5.25 Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. If there is no consciousness at death, how can the dead hear his voice. John 2.28-29 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
We read again, the scripture says all the dead would hear his voice. Question... can the dead hear? Final scripture. 1peter 3.19-20 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water. These verses talks of Christ preaching to the spirits of those who perished in the flood.
So can the dead be preached to? Remember, we learnt in John 5 that the dead would hear the voice of Christ. |
