Politics / Re: Nigeria's Distabilisation Plot Seemed On Course by tdade(m): 9:33pm On Jun 08, 2013
To be honest, true federalism is all Nigeria needs. The northern states can impose Sharia as they deem fit and the Niger Delta will have autonomy over her resources.
This would go a long way in solving Nigeria's problems. Then again, I get the feeling Nigeria has gone past the ticking point and disintegration seems inevitable.

Even if we end up fighting another war - I believe we've got enough resources to rebuild. Also, this isn't the 70s and 80s anymore where the world would watch us continue an endless war. Once the borders are partitioned; rebuilding and the creation of institutions would begin in earnest. We've nothing to lose, but a lot to gain. People are dying everyday and I'm sure the death rate in Nigeria from preventable causes should be up to about 500,000 a yr. If America could have up to more 100,000 a yr, then Nigeria should be close to that. So, what are the people scared of?

Balkanisation or the confederation system a la UK system is the solution to Nigeria's unique problems. Nigeria is not an identity - the people need an identity and some space to grow at the own pace based on their consciousness.
I go with the UK system; seems it will be less bloody but just as effective as a total Balkanisation.

Size is not even an issue for me. let's talk about economy and other cogent factors. Britain is a dwarf where the US is.
But size should be a factor in this case because for her size, Britain is heads and shoulders above US. Take Britain's 94000 sq mi and place it anywhere in the US - now you tell me where in the world you get an economy worth $2.4 trillion. That's right, NOWHERE!

Your hate for America will make you to say things that even you won't believe. let's just for the sake of this discussion assume that you're right about the bolded. What about the number of billionaires and millionaires America breeds yearly? isn't that the sign of a prosperous country? How many Billionaires can Britain boast of? Most of the billionaires in that country are not even from there.
The size issue comes into play again here. Britain is too small for you to compare it with US in terms of billionaires produced.

A country is a country whether it's the size of 50 countries put together or not. You're not even ashamed to be comparing Britain with states in the US. That's to show you that states in the US are more important than a lot of countries including Britain.

Britain should start by competing with it's fellow European country before thinking of going international. Germany trounces them in many departments.
Now comparing Germany to UK? Sit Putin and Obama down and ask them who they'd rather have as allies. Britain has nobody to compete with - they own Europe! If Britain leaves the EU today, that is the end of Europe as you know it, but if Germany leaves.......

when his ancestors were pillaging american villages, they got their freedom with those guns. that gun signifies freedom to them. so when a british tells an american to lay down his gun, it's like adding insult to injury.

My pointis that new York is like country and has more challenges than small cities like London. London is a very small city and very easy to manage and the population is also moderate, at least compared to other global cities.

New York is a little London? Now, that's a funny one. Manhattan alone takes london to the cleaners. New York is like a country and was founded and named by the dutch. Britain had nothing to do with it. And it was not modelled after London either. You British people should stop consoling yourself. Your time is over.
Manhattan? HAVE TOU BEEN TO LONDON CITY? London(including the city) is the most diverse place in the world! Compare NYC to Paris please.

is this all you have to say. Why not dispute what i said. It's common knowledge that Britain is not a force to reckong with in any department. They're living on past glory.
errm... How did you arrive at this? If you wanna compare Britain to the US, please bear in mind that US is a nation of nations. Texas, the richest(or second) state in the US is three times the size of UK yet UK's economy is greater than that of every single state in US. Britain not a force to reckon with? How about the ninety billion pounds they spent on nuclear warheads and submarines not long ago?
People are really starting to underrate the UK and I have a feeling its owing to their size.
If they are not a force to reckon with, why do US have them as their biggest allies? Think man.

piers morgan has no rights talking about gun laws in america for goodness sake - he's the last person on the planet to air such views. he should leave such talks and concentrate on arsene wenger's management of arsenal fc.
Him being dumb doesn't make him wrong. The guy went all out on his show and called for an outright ban on all guns. Why? Because he has feelings unlike all those pro-gun Americans who believe the only solution is to arm more people with guns. I'm an Arsenal fan, by the way, hence my aversion for him.
PS: every time I type the C word, it gets changed to 'well' upon posting. And when I type ediot(obviously misspelt), it gets totally omitted. Seun, what's wrong o?

Awake and Back!
Now, I see some people comparing UK and US in terms of crime.
First of all, statistics show that the Uk is more violent per 100 people than the US - they just use other things, not guns.
Now for US and their gun laws: Piers Morgan, to me, exudes cuntery in heaps and bounds but he has been banging on about it for quite a while now and I must say, he makes sense. Why are Americans so flipping adamant? I expected a total reform of the gun laws after the Connecticut school shootings but no, after a few weeks, they had started to forget the incident.
Why are they even allowed to carry it around?
What do civilians need bloody guns for?
Ask an old lady who is holding an umbrella who she'd fancy her chances with if she's about to get mugged - the guy with a knife or the bloke with a shotgun?

25 People Shot (6 Killed) Over 48 Hours In NYC

Mayhem in the city: 25 people shot in 48 hours
Three killed Sunday after three were killed Saturday. One of the wounded includes an 11-year-old girl who will never walk again.

Violence surged like the mercury Sunday, with three more fatalities from gun violence — and eight others wounded in shootings — bringing the total number of bullet-riddled in the city to 25 in less than 48 hours. Only Staten Island was safe from the wide-ranging spray of gunfire and sickening weekend bloodshed. At least 12 people were blasted in Brooklyn, eight in the Bronx and another four in Queens. The sole person shot in Manhattan took several slugs to the chest and perished in broad daylight.

Sunday’s first fatality was Ivan Martinez, 21, who was approached around 3:25 a.m. by a 20-year-old gunman and a woman at E. 139th St. near Brook Ave. in the Bronx, police said. The gunman shot Martinez once in the head and ran off with the woman. In the second fatal attack, a man in his 40s was gunned down during an argument in East Harlem around 1:20 p.m. The victim, who has not been identified by police, was blasted multiple times in the torso on E. 105th St. near First Ave. Less than four hours later, Damien Powell, 25, was killed after he was shot in the chest outside the Albany Houses in Crown Heights, sources and witnesses said. The victim’s mother collapsed at the scene, where shell casings littered the street, witnesses said.

In other shootings Sunday:
- A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Ravenswood Houses in Queens at 12:10 a.m.
- A 21-year-old man was shot three times on East New York Ave., Brooklyn, at 2:36 a.m.
- A 20-year-old man was shot in the leg at Bedford Park Blvd. and Webster Ave. in the Bronx at 3:30 a.m.
- A 35-year-old man brought himself to Jamaica Hospital with a gunshot wound in the leg at 4:12 a.m.
- A 15-year-old was shot in his leg and back on Osborn St. in, Brownsville, Brooklyn, at 11:40 a.m.
- A gunman opened fire at Bedford Ave. near Lenox Road in Prospect Lefferts-Gardens around 3:25 p.m.

Only an illiterate will call what is up there backing and proof. To get that kind of information, and for it to be usable in any way, you would need a court order. Without a court order or legal process to protect people, I can walk into any phone store and demand all your records. How would you like that.
Go through what you wrote again and consider how ludicrous it sounds. The only info they got that is liable to questioning is the one involving phone details. What about the others? And who told you they are trying to prove anything in court? The sole aim is to expose him and that has been achieved. Even if he goes to court and wins, does that make up for the damage done? Does that mean he won't be fired if proof is tendered to NASS?

Is he not a muslim? Can he not marry more than one wife What about the guy that married the child bride, was anything done about it? The scandal of GEJ handling a house keeper somewhere, was something done about it? The rumours of GEJ with Deizani, was anything done about it Just like all the rumours highlighted above, this can be likened to a rumour. And you want a judas to remove a judas How many guys in the national assembly, senate, ministers and presidency do this? Especially with young unfortunate girls who they had a hand in impoverishing indirectly. You pass policies to impoverish people, and then you sleep with their daughters. All of a sudden Nigerian's are claiming moral high ground? I am not holding brief for Sanusi, all I find very troubling is how people can have access to another's private information and that seems okay.
Muslims are also not allowed to be with another man's wife. And claims against other officials like you said were just rumors - no proof. This claim comes with backing and proof.

They gave dates, explicit details, room no., venues..... All this against the Governor of CBN.
For those of you doubting, do you think they are not aware of the consequences? There's more to come from this, there really is. I expect explicit pictures and videos circulating on the internet soon. Its just too detailed to be considered false! There was probably a camera in their room.
This was probably funded by his enemies who know him inside out cause I'm pretty sure PT didn't just decide to spy on him all of a sudden.

not necessarily but considering the fact that US is the world's greatest nation, then ideally so. Your question should be: should our senators and house of reps members earn 3 times more than Obama and 7 times more than Putin? Then what does our president earn?

That's classic hypocrisy from them. For the opposition to have some credibilty, they have to call for a reduction of the obscene emoluments they receive annually.
truth is, they make all sorts of promises during campaign including reduction of wages. In my opinion, if they are serious about it, they should start making noise whilst in/out of office. To cap it all off, the media hardly report about it. Just imagine if this was the case in the US.

CFCfan: To put it into more perspective, U.S. Senators and Representatives only earn about $100,000 per year, with the principal officer earning a little more! The Governor of California earns $170,000 a year.
Also, President Obama pays for his and his guests' meals on 'Airforce 1', and pays for his laundry from his salary

Also, a certain percent of Obama's $400000 is taxable.

Nigerians, the biggest cowards on the face of the earth, deserve the Govt they get.

But, then again, you cant blame them when they got some that'll support corruption, greed, and a malfunctioning society by giving this wreck of a Govt 98.9% votes when election time comes around.
Sad but unfortunately true. People need to realize how much top officials like Angela Merkel earn -roughly $300000, more or less. Only then will they realize that we are being f**ked by those at Aso rock.
