@rheene009

Something just came up, looking at the screenshot. In addition to what you planned to do, once you apply for the renewal, try and see if you can link your spouse's application to it. There is an option for linking account at the bottom of your IRCC portal when you log in. It works for paper applications, maybe it could work for this.

rheene009:
ok i will work on it. thanks
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 7:23pm On Feb 03, 2022
I would advise you submit your study permit extension (you may mention your spouse's OWP if you want).

Then for spouse: under his own application, upload your evidence of application for study permit extension through webform.

If your permit extension is approved before his OWP, again, upload your new study permit through webform.

rheene009:
Hi nairalanders, PLEASE HELP ooo my spouse applied for OWP but no update yet. My program and visa will expire in April 2022 and I have gotten a new LOA for another program. I want to apply for study permit extension this week. Do I mention OWP’s pending application in my study permit extension sop or OWP should send a webform with my new LOA and inform IRCC I am applying for an extension.

I am wondering since my current visa is less than 3 months and OWP application is still pending decision, what steps do I take before submitting study extension or after submitting study extension.

Thank you.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
They are not coming with you as at the time of application, it's 'No'.

You could obtain an affidavit of declaration of marriage and upload with traditional marriage certificate.

efeturi3:
I need your answer to this question. I am applying for a study permit through the new portal, and I am expected to click yes or no if my children will be accompanying me to Canada, I am applying for only myself at this moment, though they will join me later. should I click yes or no?
secondly, I did traditional marriage only grin grin grin. Is it enough if i upload my traditional marriage certificate?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
Hi Ketima, it doesn't really matter. The minimum fund requirement is 10000 and one is not obligated to go beyond it.

If one likes, one can put all the 10000 under room and board and leave the Others blank. Or put 10000 under room and board and put additional amount under Others. Or one can divide the amount between the two (the important thing is that the total should meet or go beyond the minimum fund required).

During my application, I put 6000 under room and board, and 5000 under Others, because Quebec required 11000. The visa was approved.

I am also attaching a screenshot as advised from McGill University website.

Ketima:
Hello Technix,

Not really so. The room and board is CAD$10,000 and shouldn't be divided. Others (More like ancillary fees), as advised from when I joined this journey, were to be putting CAD$3,000 to cover for flights and other fees that may be incurred. I said this some time ago and someone dragged me to show them a link to prove it. But that's what Frankrobbn taught us.

So, KRTL, don't divide it. CAD$10,000 is for room and board. You can leave others blank if you so desire.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 1:30pm On Feb 03, 2022
Four weeks or less before your start date is reasonable.

Yes, please send your new LOA via webform (advice according to IRCC Twitter handle)

But try to be sure that by the time you enter Canada, the medical exam you submitted for visa application would not be older than 12 months (according to IRCC website)

Anyone with a personal experience might give a better advice.

Monex007:
Good day house i have a question
the deadline for course registration in my school was jan 20th and the school advised that after that day if one had not gotten approval form IRCC yet its best to defer to the September semester which i did.
on the 26th of jan i got my ppr and had my visa stamped by jan 31 already my school had deferred my admission (new LOA came out on the 29th).
Now my question is how early can I travel to Canada given that I'm not starting school anytime soon and do i need to send my new LOA to IRCC ?

please i'll appreciate any advice or any one that has experienced something like this
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 12:36pm On Feb 03, 2022
You can distribute 10,000CAD between room and board, and other.

You can put 5,000 under room and board, and 5,000 under other.

KRTL:
Good morning everyone

pls I am filling my form..this place for " other" what should I write

pls find attached screenshot

Thank you

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 3:49pm On Feb 02, 2022
No, no and no, I didn't.

And I have renewed my study permit twice after first approval.

Renewed spousal permit and child visit visa, twice after first approval. If fact, the last renewal was approved yesterday.

I have *NEVER* used any account statement apart from funding letter.

Osemigho:
So you did not add any personal or parent account for your student visa application? Just scholarship that cover tuition and living expenses?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 3:47pm On Feb 02, 2022
Send your LOE and visa form to me. And if you wish, you can drop it here.

lilangel20:
Please what do you think went wrong?
It was stated in my letter that I would be paid that amount yearly for the period of my study
quote author=technix post=109895161]Please read her details well. She doesn't even need any personal account to add.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 3:45pm On Feb 02, 2022
In the form, where they asked "My expenses will be paid by", choose "Myself".

lilangel20:
Thank you so much
But I would still indicate my sponsor as full finding right?

Anon123:
Of course you will be denied for finance with that profile.
An MBS of 150k balance is not sufficient at all.
having a tuition waiver or funding does not mean you wont have need of living expenses. Kindly include your own bank statement housing $10,000cad or more living expense.
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 2:46pm On Feb 02, 2022
This is enough. What you need is 14K, assuming you are outside Quebec.

Just explain in your LOE that you understand that the minimum requirement is 14K, and you have excess of that, shikena.

Do the calculation in your letter like you have done now.

If you have more money, that's better.

Best of luck.

TheLasyBuddha:
My wife and I would be applying for study permit and SOWP respectively.

She got a funding of $20,000
Tuition and fees are $9,260
Living expense for her is: $20,000 –$9,260= $10,740
I have POF of $6,100

Total POF= $16,840

She has a job with a running salary already.

Is it enough to apply together? Someone told me we should have at least $18,000 to apply comfortably.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 2:33pm On Feb 02, 2022
Sorry to hear. It's weird to be rejected for financial reasons when you have tuition waiver and funding.

I am suspecting you might have missed out explaining your funding in your LOE, in such a way that the visa officer would easily understand.

Officers at times don't easily figure out things, you need to show them by writing.

lilangel20:
Documents submittedl
Mbs of 150k
Siblings birth cert..
Funding letters
Other normal documenta.
Funding came with 16,500cad
Tuition waiver - I was going to pay only 4,500 cad
Other documents.
Refusal based on personal assets and financial status.
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 9:53pm On Feb 01, 2022
Aameen.

Like skull4eva mentioned, after the first two members, each additional family member is 3000

Oganammuo:
Thanks so much for this info.
Now with our two kids(assuming 4,000 each), it will be 14,000CAD + 8,000CAD = 22,000CAD.

GOD BLESS YOU GREATLY.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 6:15am On Feb 01, 2022
Lekiboboe has given a very great reply.

Just a little addition, even if you don't have a research experience in the area, two things can help:
1. Before sending a cold email to any prof, try to read at least one of his recent publications in the area you are interested in. This will give the prof an impression that you are not lazy and that you can understand a research paper. It may be daunting at first, but you will get used to it with time. From the paper, you can get an idea of the future work the prof wants to do. In your email, you should state that you have read the paper, and suggest that you would like to work on one or more of the future research areas in the paper (mention the research exactly).

In fact, if the paper is *not freely* available online, and you have to pay to download it, you can email the prof that you are interested in his work and ask for a copy of the paper. Mention that you are from a developing country and you don't have access to a paid journal. You could even build a relationship from there.

2. Since you have worked with solar and not petroleum, some skills are transferable. For example, mathematical modelling or programming skills like MATLAB. So, you can mention some of those skills and experience that you think you can apply to petroleum research. Showing interest is a key thing, you may not have all the skills.

Best of luck!

angel4sure:
Thank you sir, I will look into it. Am very grateful for the responses so far. But I have a challenge with area of research, u know our Nigerian school system, we dnt do research and most times after school, we dnt tend to get a job in line with what we studied.

I have always wanted to work in an oil company so I can have an experience, but it never came even after series of applications and interviews. Also with respect to my final year project, it was not related to anything petroleum, but Solar, but I have always had interest in petroleum, that's why I want to do a masters in that area. Pls how do I go abt this when I dnt have research experience and also my final year project was not in petroleum.

Marriage certificate and pics are enough.

I don't want to think you are rushing things. It's easy to write emotionally that you want to reunite, cos your marriage is new.

Yes, write a letter of invitation for her and sign. You would use that opportunity to write your own emotional aspect of why you want her to come too *winks*

MG007:
Hello good people, I recently got married Dec 2021 , about 2 months after getting my visa . Fast foward to January 2022, I wish to apply for my wife’s SOWP. Beyond the marriage Cert and pics, pls is there any other means mean to genuinely proof that we are indeed married coz an agent told me I m probably rushing things which is likely to raise an eyebrow. Also, aside the letter of explanation from the main applicant (my wife) , do I still need to write an invitation letter ?
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 11:59pm On Jan 31, 2022
So, in addition to school fees, you and your spouse would need a total of 14,000CAD.

10,000 for the person studying and 4,000 for the spouse.

The processing time is not by passport but the country you are applying from.

You have a good case, because your work experience is relevant to business. You just need to convincingly state some of the things you stated here, and how business analytics would help your business and future plans.

You could also demonstrate home ties using the cargo business.

tholah01:
Hello everyone,
Been following this thread for a while and I truly appreciate everyone here. I also have a few questions for my situation, I am a graduate of Geography, did Geography for both masters and bsc before going for my masters in 2018 I worked for 1yrs 6months in a micro finance bank as a credit risk officer and while doing my masters I stated a cargo handling business which is thriving, after my masters I got a job as a sales coordinator whilst still running my business simultaneously, now looking to study in Canada and I want to move to business analytics, I initially wanted to do another masters in business analytics but it’s expensive and most schools in Canada wants GRE, so I decided to go for post baccalaureate in business analytics which is cheaper , I have applied to a school but I haven’t gotten an offer yet but with what I have read and heard about visa application and career progression I have been thinking a lot, I would appreciate your honest review on this, I am actually thinking that convincing the VO that post baccalaureate will be a good ground to transition fully to a career in business analytics and also help me with my business
What do you think ?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 4:31pm On Jan 30, 2022
With a 2.2, it's extremely rare to get admitted for masters.

Just go for post graduate diploma, graduate certificate or post-baccalaureate diploma.

You will have the IRCC letter when you apply for study visa and it's approved.

Then you can send the letter to your school.

You can submit your own account too, if that would ensure that you all meet the minimum fund requirement. It's not compulsory though if your spouse has enough money for the whole family.

Oganammuo:
Happy Sunday family.
Pls someone help me answer these questions.
I want to appy for SOWP for Myself and study permit for my kids, aside my spouse's (who is a student in Canada) statement of account, is my own account statement needed too?
I do business. Should I submit my business account statement, personal account statement or both?
I have at least 1m in each.

May God's mercy locate our applications with PPRs, amen

How were you able to submit your application in the first place?

You should have received a personalized list of documents to submit, and IMM forms upload tabs would be compulsory such that you can't even submit your application without uploading them.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 4:26pm On Jan 29, 2022
Send your IRCC approval letter and your visa page to your school. Explain you can't obtain study permit until port of entry (they know this too).

@makano

I got to know that I won't be able to board plane without enrollment letter from the school. Now have messaged my school to register for classes so I can be given the letter but they said I have to pay $500dollars for acceptance fee and show them my study permit. My concern now is what should I do because I can only get the Study permit at the Port of Entry?

Note: I have gotten my study permit approved without paying a dime to the school except the processing fees.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
For a 1-year program, you get a postgraduation work permit (PGWP) of 1year.

For 2-year program, you get a PGWP of 3 years.

If you spend 2 years for a program that ideally takes a year, you may still get PGWP of 1 year because your school would write 1 year on your letter of program completion.

You can do police clearance for 5K or less.

the employment relations I applied for at MUN is 1 year but can be completed in two years but it’s one year work permit me I’ll get.

also, I’ll like to find out the following. Would appreciate it if someone replies biko.
A police officer told me it’s 70k for the police clearance certificate. Biko what’s the price .

You don't have anything to lose by submitting the webform.

Just attach a letter explaining that while trying to comply with the document size limit, you had compressed your statement of account. And after submission, you noticed the significant reduction in quality and feared it might not be clear enough... Hence, you are attaching a clearer version.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
Sorry to hear. Some schools would accept your 2.1. Also, try to calculate the CGPA for your last two years and be sure it's not below 2.1 or see if it's above 4.0 (some schools use that alone). Admission process is beyond only GPA; your SOP, CV and letter of recommendation count.

I would advise you continue searching and go for schools that accept 3.0/4.0 or below (or that mentions second class).

You can check York University.

Hello All,

Please I need help or clarification on how to proceed in case someone has experienced something similar. I go admission into an MSC 1 year program in University of New Brunswick for Fall 2022 and I have already received an unconditional admission letter. I noticed the admission letter does not contain the tuition fees(research for fees from last year showed it was about 20K CAD and I guess this year wont be too far from this). I reached out to the school and was told the fees for fall 2022 is not out yet and will be made available in May but I can still proceed to make some sort of payment because the fees will usually not be higher than 5% of the previous year.

Now my issue is this according to the IRCC site my admission letter should have my tuition fees stated which was not stated in the admission letter provided by the school. Will this be a problem if proceed to submit it with proof I have paid the fees even when the amount was not stated? I don't want to wait till May because of the delays with IRCC, I want to send in my student visa application first week in February.

Note: I know some schools require payment of some deposit/acceptance fee before an unconditional admission letter is issued but apparently UNB does not do that.

Thanks much
I wouldn't advise you submit visa application without school fees amount info. You can email your department for a To Whom It May Concern Letter, just to state your school fees.
