In addition to what has been advised, try to read one of the recent papers of the professor you are interested in, and make reference to the paper. You can get an idea of future works in the paper. This gives the impression that you can understand a research paper and that you are not just emailing profs randomly. You can also send me a sample of your email. I can review it and offer guidance (for free). mikelchino: Hello nairalanders,
I am new here and truly need advice on how to proceed for an application. I am currently applying for a post graduate program in Immunology at the university of Manitoba and have almost completed my application but there is a section where I have to get professor to support my application in terms of being my supervisor. I have gone through the staff page and seen various research interest of the different staff and have mailed few as to why I am interested in their research field but no response. I have mailed the department of post graduate studies and got a reply that it is my responsibility to get a sponsor for my department of interest giving me a link of the staffs in the department of immunology. I have done the best I know and am seeking guidance or directive from you guys to achieve this feat. Thank you. |

Oh. Just to be clear, did the GCMS note state it was because the fund could only cover one person (even when it was only that person traveling)? Osemigho: Canada visa is becoming tricky for married people with full scholarship. I have seen some that are rejected on the basis of funds because the funding can only cover for one person. So, I won't agree that married people should submit without 2-3 million, atleast in their account.
In this case, the mum should send the money and term it gift deed. She should also write a letter of moral support that praise her intellect and achievements. Her mum is not her sponsor, her school and scholarship are her sponsor.
Her husband should also write a letter of moral support that praises her and that he will be glad to welcome her back after school. They might even plan summer visit to Nigeria throughout the program. |

Please explain that you paid tuition already in your LOE (not necessarily how you paid it), and you can include the arithmetic such as subtracting the one you paid and mentioning the amount left. As for the GIC, it depends on you. The more concise your LOE is, the better. Nelson2k: Good evening gurus in the house, I keep asking questions here but no one wants to help out
I hope someone helps me out this time. Thanks in advance.
My question is. 1. Do I have to explain how I funded my GIC account and paid my tuition in my LOE? Or is not necessary |

In addition to what others have advised, I would say she should submit her PhD funding ALONE and explain it as you have broken it down here. The additional 6K is unnecessary. In fact, it places more burden of explanation. She doesn't need any other statements. Just be sure she gets a letter from her department or supervisor that clearly states her funding amount and the tuition fee. TheLasyBuddha: Good day, all.
Quick question: Can my mum submit her SOA and act as a sponsor for my wife to cover her living expenses (as her mother-in-law)? She got a PhD offer. Mum's POF= CAD$6,000 PhD funding= CAD$23,000 Tuition and fees=CAD$9,300 Living expenses from funding= 23,000–9,300= $13,700.
TIA. |

Since you applied through an agent, please speak with the agent to know the details of the application, such as content of your LOE/SOP, and other documents submitted. This will allow you to easily answer any question you might be asked. Like mrprolifik said, most of the questions will be related to the content of your LOE such as why you want to study in Canada, why the school, how you will fund the study, etc. You can also Google 'Canada study visa questions and answers'. Bukicious: I applied through an agent. It is an official email address |

Has anyone experienced this? |

If you can afford to let your husband get his study permit first, and then apply to join him, that's better. However, it's still possible to apply together. You just need a strong LOE demonstrating the need to go together, financial sufficiency, and home ties (e.g. if you have parents still in Nigeria). You don't need a work leave to apply for SOWP, and you are not required to demonstrate that you plan to go back to your current company in Nigeria. Deronke1: Hi guys, so my husband and I are planning on applying together. Him for student visa and I for Sowp. I currently work at nafdac, just 1 year and its my only work experience. I've taken many online courses. What are the criteria for sowp? Am I eligible? Please help as we don't want to make a mistake |

Yes, your DLI number could have 11 numbers only. Just to be sure, are you entering letter O in upper case like you did here, and not number 0? Naturalobserver: I did everything..I got an error message from them and its relating to my DLI number The error message stated it must begin with O must be up to 20 numbers.. The DLI number on my LOA begins with O but has only 11 numbers. |

This is fine. Your wife should emphasize in the LOE that you are going to help them settle in easily. Other details that could show that you are comfortable with your current work should be included. And as previously mentioned, if you and your wife have parents, mention them as home ties. Jacklens: Hello! House. I still need pieces of advice:
Got LOA from U o A for my wife We are family of 5( 3 kids). - should I initiate application for my wife with the kids at the same time with my visitor's visa? I am actually thinking of going with them to settle them; then return to my work in Naija.
Pls......advice needed. |

With a first class, I would advise you start contacting supervisors, you have a high chance of getting funded. Just prepare your CV well and write a good cold email. But if you just want to apply without considering scholarship opportunities, I think you have a chance in any Canadian university. Just work on a good SOP. CanadaNomad: By that, I meant a first class. I'm sorry to pour unrelevant information here. It's just that I was very conversant with the app process, guidelines etc al for Canadian study Visa, but I kinda phased out and focused on other stuffs.
Thanks for always responding. |

Yes, it's okay. Just be sure you strongly address home ties in your LOE. Normally, if you go first, it's easier to use him for home ties. SOWP preferably, if you are not in a hurry. You will get a personalized list of documents and forms when you are applying. Apart from the list, invitation letter for your spouse, LOE from her, and other documents at your discretion e.g. to prove home ties. You may read previous threads, you will find a list of documents some people submitted. DamilareOla: Hello All.
I am new here. I recently got my study permit approved on the 3rd of February for the Fall session.
We want to apply for my wifey around July/August (a Visitor visa or SOWP).
Which would you advise? What are the steps to take/document to submit?
Kindly help. Thank you. |

I would advise you reapply for visiting so that you meet up with the EDD, and your justification would still hold. A visa officer should understand that it is necessary to be with your wife at this period. There are ways to write emotionally. Please put more effort in your LOE. You may consider SOWP if her EDD is still far (perhaps, 6 months). Best of luck! Wales55: Good day Nairalanders I am New here Please my application to visit my wife studying was refused today I need to visit her to be with her as soon as possible to offer her an helping hand as she got to know she was pregnant late last year so putting in for a SOWP might not meet up with her delivery
Response was: I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence. • I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your travel history. You are welcome to reapply if you feel that you can respond to these concerns and can demonstrate that your situation meets the requirements. All new applications must be accompanied by a new processing fee.
The RCIC agent that my wife used in Canada suggested putting in for SOWP which will take a longer time to process, your suggestions will be highly appreciated

You can still reapply for visit, since it may be faster. You may need to work more on your LOE (I do help revise LOE's). Also, you may want to look at the documents you submitted e.g. the invitation letter from your husband. ami213: Hello guys! The easy way is to check each school, then department of your choice, then research area, then the professors working in the area. Some professors write on their personal websites when they are recruiting graduate students. Even if you don't see adverts on the websites, you can still reach out to them and express your interest. Often, when a professor accepts you, you will get funded by the professor or the department or both. gracelove82: Please I really need help in picking out a good Canada school with good scholarship, please I need suggestions |

He needs a four-month statement of account. He doesn't need to transfer any money to your account yet. Just mention in your LOE that he is your sponsor. He should also write a letter that he is sponsoring you. Then attach your marriage certificate. As an extra, if you have kids, you may attach their birth certificates since they contain your name and your husband's. mimini: Hello house, please this is important. How many months statement of account should I submit for my study permit? My hubby is my sponsor and he is working. How many months of statement of account and payslips is he suppose to submit? If he transfer a huge sum to my account, am I suppose to write a statement on the money as a gift deed since he is my husband? Thank you as I wait for your response. |

Yes, you are right. It's not compulsory, even when you have travel histories. I didn't submit it in 2018, and I had travel history. Scott99tish: Police Report is also not compulsory for Applicants from Nigeria.
Many has been approved without it. I think it’s only needed if you have travel histories…
But it’s not a compulsory document. |

Proof of fund can be found here ( https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/get-documents.html). You will get a personalized list of forms to submit online when you start the application. Your spouse should write a convincing letter of explanation to address three main points: (1) why they are joining you (2) financial capacity (3) home ties (although this is not as important as the first two, because you - as the spouse - are already in Canada. You should also write a letter of invitation for them and sign. It's an opportunity to further express why they should join you. I hope this helps, and best of luck! Ajoke08: Hello, I want to apply for SOWP for my husband and study permit for my children (3) . can anyone please guide on the proof of funds to show and how to go about the application. If you think your case is cogent, this is an opportunity. Many factors can lead to a low GPA. Also, if there are ways to show that you have a potential for a higher GPA if not for circumstances, (e.g. you won awards for excellence at workplace, you gained research experience and published a paper) , you can also use them to corroborate your case. Balloo: Yea, it is for MUN.
I am thinking of making a case for an average CGPA. Not impressed with the CGPA as graduated with a 2.2 when I believe I could have done better if not for factors like unorganisation - school time table/ personal timetable, not necessarily finances... If anyone ever felt the need to explain why they could have done better but didn't |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 2:51pm On Feb 04, 2022 |
I doubt if it would be possible, without additional steps. MEng at MUN is thesis-based and you are strongly advised to contact a supervisor before applying. Often, thesis-based programs are cheaper because (among other ressons) they are funded by the supervisor or the department. But they are more difficult to get, because you need a supervisor before applying. Semtu: Can I ask for my program to be changed to MEng? |
