TV/Movies / Re: Before The Next Big Brother Naija by teelaw4life(m): 10:49am On Sep 26, 2018
To every one shouting Big brother naija. This article is not about big brother naija. He merely used that as bait.
The writer's point is that priority needs to be set aright if we are to elevate our status amongst nations and be taken seriously.
More focus on technological and scientific explorations and achievements than entertainment showpieces that do not benefit the nation in the long run.
However, the writer fails to acknowledge the deep structural problem without which scientific and technological advancement cannot be driven. Education. Substandard and archaic educational system of practice is the bane of Nigeria's progress. Our educational system does not encourage critical thinking. It does not encourage research. There are other factors but, education is the major one.

Can't believe how much nairaland has deteriorated. Every tom dick and Harry can simply cook up fake and orchestrated screenshots, post it and it'll make front page.
If people look closely, davido's tweet was on twitter, the so called upcoming artiste also responded on Twitter but davido's alleged response to that via Instagram's DM feature.
Politics / Re: Is The Federal Character Principle Necessary?, By Kenneth Amaeshi by teelaw4life(m): 12:00pm On Sep 17, 2018

The problem with pseudo-political analysts such as the writer of the OP is their inability to apply their comparative thoughts within the reality of the Nigerian state.

What is the educational gap between ethnic groups in China?

What is the ethni-political situation in China like, is it the same as it is in Nigeria?

What is the religio-political situation in China like, is it the same as in Nigeria?

——-

Several decades after independence, the educational gap between the North and South is still very wide. This is despite several campaigns at the national and international level about the importance of education. Is the North ready to relinquish most federal positions to the South till they can churn out academically qualified ‘experts’ to match that of the south?

———

The causes of the ‘ 67civil war still abound greatly. Ethnic groups in Nigeria still relate within the lingering causes and effects of the civil war such that it creeps into the political space of the country. Ethnic groups suspect each other of domination. Does the OP think ethnic antagonism would not shoot to the clouds if meritocracy leaves positions in the hands of a certain group that possesses the expertise to fill posts at the federal level?

———

Religion has eaten deep into Naija political space. At regional/ethnic level, it is relatively manageable but at federal level it proves problematic and sensitive. Certain groups already fear an Islamic agenda and hold certain group responsible for its possible implementation. This can easily be used by the politicians to send people into a frenzy.

———-

In a nutshell, to kill federal character, the center must be rendered powerless and unattractive. Power must then be transferred to regions where groups with shared history, culture and ‘ancestry’ can design their own methods of sharing appontments/employments be it in a federal character esque manner or on merit grounds.

Well articulated. Op is lazy in reasoning, successfully analyses the demerits of FCP but failed to point out how, based on current reality, the merit system will be bastardized and abused.

Furthermore, in my opinion, FCP only goes to show how dysfunctional the set up of our system of governance is. Ideally, You shouldn't require FCP to practice true federalism. FCP in a federal system is a contradiction.

Your proffered solution is certainly the way.

Do we still have NLC in Nigeria? Buhari and APC have compromised every know pressure group in Nigeria .
Look at what is happening at NBA that can not conduct their common election.
Not really. NLC died when they acceded, no, sold out Nigerians during the 2012 fuel subsidy sttike. That was the last major NLC orchestrated strike.
They've been on a downward spiral since then.
It's such a big shame.

There's a lot of sense in this thread but much can be said also about character consistency. Having a consistent character, being stereotyped and 'caged' as you put it are all fine lines. I believe it comes down to your ability to resist outside opinions good/bad about you. If I'm to look at what you're saying about compliments and criticisms from another angle, you're probably likening positive compliments/criticisms to positive reinforcements that encourages a behavior and negative compliments/criticisms to negative reinforcements that seek to reduce and remove a repeat of said behavior.
Again, it's fine margins and in a way, it all boils down to the individual. You'll be caged depending on how much you like your ego being massaged and the purpose for doing whatever it is you do. If you simply don't give a flying fVck, compliment or no compliment, you're gonna do your thing in consistency to your character or the way you feel.

If you like talk no or make you type 'noted' but your write-up is brilliant. Remarkable observation and pinpoint points of reference too.

Chelsea has the worst fans ever!

This was my comment on a thread where they were boasting that they will come fourth. My prediction has come to pass!

This was my comment that they attacked me for!

Am a die hard Liverpool fan. Even though I know chances of Brighton beating Liverpool at Anfield is just 1 in 1,000... But hey, this is still Football and anything can happen!
But why I laugh at Chelsea fans is that they are worried about Liverpool loosing to out of form Brighton but are not even worried about Chelsea loosing to in form Newcastle while traveling to Away! You see?

Just today, I saw some Chelsea fans and they were running some permutations in their toutish manner. They were like, if Tottenham loose today, Draw next week and Liverpool loose next week... Chelsea will move to 3rd! I was just laughing at their stupidity.

When I mentioned why they are not worried about Chelsea and are worried about other clubs, they were like... "Huddersfield is yam porridge".
Well Last Last.... We have seen those that are really the yam porridge.
