BetaThings: Nigerians are yahoo-yahoo people!that make u a yahoo-yahoo dude too,order wise,u ar not a Nigerian(sudanese).this thread is for Nigerians intruder,so scram! |
agriboom: Obviously! but if we are going to be honest with ourselves we all know the northerners didn't start this, now it seems all the noise from those that started (the drifters) isn't real after all.u ar right, but pple are beginning to be overly security concious nowadays and u can't just help but be agitated when u have hausas in your neighbourhood(especially the fulanis).don't have any problem with what they are advocating for, just that most times as we have seen, they take it to the extreem(riot).talking from xperience. |
Leibnitz: Long overduewhat is long over due, that some northern groups wants all southerners to relocate back to their regions?. |
Tex42: I just hope the FG and the Nigerian army are at alart.just yesterday there was a confrontation between the Nigerian army and some islamic groups in Zaria(along PZ) and there were casualties.■ For now, all looks calm after FG’s order against registration, deportation of non-indigenes Perhaps, the march to true federalism in Nigeria may have begun inadvertently, taking into account the recent agitation by some elements of Hausa Fulani extraction in the North for the registration and relocation of southerners in the region. The 1D card crisis, which started rather innocuously, in the form of a petition to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammadu Sanusi 11, last week, has transformed into an avoidable headache as the campaigners, Arewa Youth Development Foundation, and their allies, seemed to have captured the passion of their people and provoked, by means of their threats, a huge fright among southerners resident in the region. The petitioners, who said they consisted of several cells, among them students, professional and interests groups in the North, had arrived the Emir’s palace in buses and their personal cars on Wednesday last week. Some of them were students, who were hurriedly dragged out of school by the organisers of the protest while some others were just of school age, but may not be students. They also consisted of a handful of girls, aged between 25 and 30 years. The group had audience with the emir at about 11.00 am, where they reeled out a number of allegations against the Federal Government and the people of Southern Nigeria. National President of Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF), Barrister Aliyu M Usman, who spoke for the group, lamented the North’s alleged misfortunes under the current dispensation, attributing their woes to the deliberate policies of the government. The emir, who listened to them with rapt attention, offered a few consoling pieces ofadvice, including urging them to live in peace with other Nigerians in their state and region. That, however, did not assuage the youth group. Soon after their petition to the monarch, members of the group converged outside the palace for the second phase of the script, which was a rally. It was not certain if they had the approval of the emir for the staging of the rally in his premises. The youth, about 100 them, soon broke into smaller units of tens, representing different sets in the North, each unit carrying placards and banners that spoke a lot. While a few of these placards conveyed messages about the plights of northerners resident in the South, a majority of them simply poured hot, unprintable insults on the people of southern Nigeria and their leaders. The rally at the palace turned out as avenue to castigate southerners, their leaders and their sensibilities. Some of the placards read: “Southerners: Children of baby factory” “Southerners: You are kidnappers, militants, armed robbers.” Barrister Aliyu .M Mohammed, who read the position of the Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF) amid applause of his peers, explained that since the inception of the present administration, there is a systematic policy of direct subjugation of northerners by the Federal Government and its agencies, in collaboration with various state governments of Southern Nigeria and their religious and ethnic leadership. He alleged that there is a war of extermination in most northern cities, particularly in the Northeast, where he said that in the last five years, more than 20,000 northerners, most of whom are youths have been killed, maimed, orphaned, widowed, kidnapped or permanently displaced. He alleged that there is an agenda to displace the economic base of northerners, citing the recapitalization of commercial banks, done years ago and the recent increase in the minimum paid up capital requirement for operators of Bureau de Change from N10 million to N35 million. He added that worse, governments of South East, South- South and South West have lately been intimidating northern travellers and settlers in their states, citing the case of 486 northerners “travelling” along Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway who were arrested by soldiers attached to the 144 battalion of the Nigeria Army, Abia State. He added: “Worse, even a delegation detailed by the Kano State Government to intervene was downrightly denied access to the detainees, making the whole act glaringly suspicious as it is provocative”. He disclosed that earlier calls by the Jamaatu Nasiril Islam, led by the Sultan of Sokoto for the suspects’ immediate release were also rejected while accusing the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of complicity in the action given its reaction to JNI intervention on the matter. He called on all levels of northern governments to come up with deliberate policies that would require all non- northerners residing in the North to seek and obtain settlers’ permit immediately. He also said that in the event these demands were not met, “we call on all northerners to rise and support the peaceful dissolution of this union called Nigeria for every region to go its own way.” He declared: “But before this is done, we urge all artisans, students, public and private sector servants, traders, and major business holders currently operating, residing or intending to do so in any part of Southern Nigeria to relocate back home within the next two weeks.” He further charged non-northerners residing in any part of northern Nigeria to relocate to their various regions of origin within two weeks to make room for accommodating our northern brothers who will be returning home. |
try69: We have too many things to protest about in Nigeria.. But hey! Why shoot at peaceful protesters? Something is not adding up here. My take is either the army shot at them for nothing ( I trust the Nigerian army to be programmed to shoot at suspects lol) Or the Army shot at them because the believe amongst them(NA) is that any gathering from the north is... You know what I mean.Hausas do not have such word as peaceful protest.i think it was a nice move from the NA,b4 a peaceful protest turns riot, and u know what means and who suffers(xtian).R.I.P to those who lost their lives.and igbo and his son were killed in that crisis yesterday. |
