oyowo:The two men that claimed the North would make the country 'Ungovernable' for GEJ are Alhaji Lawal Kaita and Adamu Ciroma. They are both PDP elder statesmen. You ignorant mumu. |
anonimi: Is there a ban on imported vehiclesFine, no ban. Drastically increased tariffs. You happy now? There is a perfectly logical and reasonable middle ground the FG could have taken to make local car assembly palatable to investors while still allowing the populace to buy decent cars with their meager salaries. Tax breaks/incentives and lowered tariffs for imported parts would easily suffice. Keep it like this until local assembly can hit the numbers and diversity to cater for much of local demand. Then - and only then - do you hike up tariffs. Of course, this brand of common sense is alien to this anti-people Government. |
Bottom line is, unless you ABSOLUTELY need Dual SIM functionality, you'd be a fool to pay more than 50k for this. You're better served getting a Galaxy S4 with better specs and a definite upgrade path to Android L and beyond. |
anonimi: I guess you need to get better informed on this economic issue before you make comments that may embarrass you.I guess you need to get better informed on this 'common sense' issue before YOU embarrass yourself further. People put in bans on imported goods when it's clear that the local production can meet internal demand. Please, kindly tell me how Nissan Patrol SUVs can meet the demand of Mama Ibeji who has just N2m to buy a decent car. Locally assembled cars should reflect the drastic reduction in shipping and import costs in their prices to make them more attractive to consumers. At that point, market forces take over and Mama Ibeji will then happily buy a new Nissan Sedan for N2.5m instead of spending N1.7m to bring in a 2005 vehicle. But you're here, trumpeting a new law that will allow Govt cronies like Stallion Motors et al to bring in foreign cars at the old prices while others are being forced out of business. A new law that makes many citizens unable to afford decent vehicles. You know the fallout of this? It's not pushing people to buy locally assembled vehicles...there's no indication of significantly reduced prices for these vehicles. All this will do is push more people into buying old vehicles that have less safety features built in and are poorer at fuel consumption. Is this what Nigeria needs? anonimi: Any person or group of people who cannot SACRIFICE TODAY in order to have a better future will remain SLAVES to those who can.Ah, but the Nigerian populace is already sacrificing greatly for these kleptocratic leaders you idolize, lapdog. They pay a lot of money for fuel, when their nation is one of the largest oil producers in the world. They suffer through epileptic power supply, through high interest rates, through poor healthcare, though serious insecurities. It is a sign of wickedness to further reduce their spending power when it comes to driving decent vehicles. If the Government was serious about improving the economy, let them tackle the estimate 100,000 barrels of crude oil that is stolen daily. That will yield even more money than this anti-people component of the auto-policy. |
pfijacobs: Nobody likes to be trampled upon. So I dnt blame johesu. Make ur demands and don't counter anova person's own I'm not on anybody's side tho. I just feel I shud say dis...heck I even have an exam now sef....LONG LIVE. JOHESU!!! LONG LIVE NMA!!!! More patients, more money, more peace and prosperity... #united nigeria...I was with you until you said the bolded above. 'more patients, more money'? Dude WTF?! I know y'all gotta eat, but praying for more patients is just plain wrong. |
anonimi: You put it so well.We can imagine the effect a fraction of the missing $20bn would do for Nigerians too! This tariff increment is wrong, immoral and unjust, sold to us by an anti-people Government in thrall of several cabals. Why is it that when it's a discussion about removing fuel subsidy, the Government is quick to tell us 'market forces will decide and ultimately force the price of fuel down', yet when it comes to autos, the FG has no intention of letting market forces decide? Cars assembled in Nigeria are supposed to be CHEAPER than new cars coming in, and price competitive with many popular Tokunbo brands that are imported. Yet the Government still wants to punish those who may not want those locally assembled brands or who cannot afford them. You do NOT need any increase in tariffs in tokunbo cars to make the auto policy a success. As always, it is sad to see how you've been compromised. |
OP, please edit this topic title. It's an embarrassment to those who paid for your education. |
Ikengawo: Jonathan hasn't gained a single new enemy since the on set of his presidency. The people making noise today have always had that position and GEJ's boldness is allowing them to expose themselves one by one.Tell me...is it the same Northern Cabal that is looting Nigeria blind by stealing over 100,000 barrels of crude daily in the Niger Delta, from pipelines Nigeria pays billions of Naira yearly to be guarded by a Niger Delta man's company? Nonsense. |
owobokiri: Read pro01 last post. He totally understands where i was coming from. It may not be constitutional but if GEJ is desperate to nail Sanusi, very easy. There are a million ways to skirt around the constitutional inhibitions if a cheif executive wants to have his way at all cost. He mentioned Russia but even before Putin, Yeltsin was able to rocket the Duma with tanks just to have his way. How did OBJ get rid of Dariye and Alams? It is a 'nascent' democracy, dont forget...And for example you bring up an armed blockade of the parliament in Russia?! You're truly desperate to get GEJ impeached, aren't you? |
pro01: Chronic amnesia would not allow some nitwits remember how Yar'Adua methodically got rid of Nuhu Ribadu and ran him out of town when he was becoming too big for his britches. What does the so-called law say about removing the EFCC Chairman, and how does it differ from removing a CBN Governor? I believe Yar'Adua (never mind OBJ sef) would have easily gotten rid of Sanusi by now if he were president.I know you're probably paid per post, but you don't really need to contribute to every discussion. Why not step back and allow the likes of Solomon11, taharqa et al that are not known for being intelligent to come and continue spewing inane drivel here? The law is clear on this one. Only 2/3 of the senate can remove the CBN Governor. Let this increasingly unpopular president test his might by trying to get that number. He'll be lucky to get a third of the Senate behind him ![]() pro01: Some of us that are ardent admirers and supporters of Goodluck Jonathan are frustrated by his gentleness, equanimity, and tolerant disposition. Then again, this is why he is regarded as the most democratic leader we have had yet.Yes, his gentleness and tolerance that has seen him go after Amaechi and plunge Rivers State into confusion. Some of us are more annoyed with the timidity he showed in 2011/12 that allowed Boko Haram to blossom into a full fledged terrorist movement with tenuous ties to Al Qaeda. Certainly we are also annoyed at his tolerance to corrupt elements in the Government. |
owobokiri: If he is put under house arrest for being a big threat not just to the economy but the state with all his uncouth outbursts (and you know he did reaa damage with those open letters) and his deputy told to take over till june, what will your likes do other than to go to premium times and sahara reporters to moan and whine as usual? ACN memebers of APC would even abandon their suport for him pronto since his deputy might be from the sw as clannish traits take over. His fulani royal heritage is getting into his small brain but who cares apart from those who want to? Two sitting sultans were disgraced in this country and nothing happened. Before then, tales have it that the sun wont set if you do as much as look into the face of a sultan.. Go figure. Blame GEJ for his calm approach otherwise this guy would have gone by now if a tougher character is at the helm..Fastest way for GEJ to get impeached ![]() |
OP joined in 2012 and since then all he has done is to praise Gov T.A Orji and lambast all his political opponents. Smh |
solomon111: The manufacturing companies have already made commitment to come. No, you simpleton, nobody's asking you to ABANDON the policy. We're saying it makes more sense to DEFER it until manufacturing starts. If you REALLY think Nissan and Toyota will start manufacturing cars in Nigeria in 2014 or even 2015, you're more daft than I imagined ![]() Please, tell me how an increase in import levies on cars in January 2014 benefits Toyota or Nissan in 2015 or 2016? Tell me how it makes it more lucrative to open a plant in Nigeria in 2016. Also, why are you smuggling in Toyota in this discussion? The President claimed only Nissan (of which I have serious doubts!) and now you're lumping in Toyota? Why not Honda? |
solomon111: Shut up you morøn.It is EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL. Will the people trek?! Pray tell me, if we aren't manufacturing cars in Nigeria and we do not import, how do we transport ourselves in Nigeria? Brooms? |
solomon111: Nigeria needs importation of cars?Lol. The irony of your contribution in bold font. Supporting a senseless, unpopular policy because of the crumbs you're being given and you dare accuse someone of 'caring about his own stomach' ![]() |
Here's Innoson's portfolio. Carefully note that there's no vehicle in that array that will cost less than 2+ million naira. Also note that there's no sedan there...and neither GEJ or his ministers have ever been pictured in any of these vehicles So tell me... 1) There's no possibility of any of the big automakers assembling and selling cars in Nigeria before 2016/17 2) The only car assembly factory in Nigeria does not make consumer vehicles, has no immediate plans to do so and cannot realistically make cars in the volume that can meet the need of one state in Nigeria, talk less of the whole nation. Why the flying frag is this tariff hike taking place in Q1 2014?!

This new import duties are quick frankly inane, insane and yet another slap in the face of the masses. Here's what a sane Government would have done. 1. REDUCE the import duties! Yes, I said it! Reduce it! Thousands die yearly from road traffic accidents every year in Nigeria from driving old, unsafe vehicles. Older vehicles plying our roads are not fuel efficient and release a massive amount of pollution in our environment. Encourage the masses to buy newer, more fuel efficient vehicles with improved safety features (Airbags, ABS etc) 2. Stop these senseless waivers given to the big car importers. They never pass it on to the consumer. 3. Give any company that decides to set up an assembly plant in Nigeria waivers and tax breaks to make the climate more conducive for business. What the Government has done is just plain moronic, and a clear indicator that the people in the FEC are evil minded. There will be no company assembling cars that Nigerians would like before 2016, at the earliest. Why punish Nigerians for nothing? Why not wait until companies are on ground first? the Government loves to point to Innoson motors as an example, but Innoson makes only ONE consumer model of vehicle, and that's an SUV that doesn't come cheap at all. What if a taxpaying Nigerian wants to buy a Sedan? Is Innoson making these available in 2014 or 2015? By far the biggest, most odious slap in our faces is that While the FG postures and makes noise about locally made cars, the Presidential fleet and the vehicles in the Senate and Ministerial pool are composed of Prados, Range Rovers, Jeeps and other Luxury cars. I have never seen a picture of GEJ riding in an Innoson Jeep! This really, really sucks. |
naijaking1: Only mistake of GEJ is not getting Sanusi out of office sooner than now. Gen Gusau advised for his removal way earlier. Any basic psychologist would have told him a circus performer like Sanusi wasn't suited for cbn governor job.Yeah, he wasn't suited to be a yes-man for this corrupt and inept Government. Thank God the laws of the land prevents the President from firing him capriciously. How this must gall your friends in Aso Rock! ![]() Stop giving yourselves headaches. He will step down in June. Not a day before. Just sit back and enjoy the tenure of one of the most acclaimed and internationally lauded CBN Governors we've ever had ![]() |
one mopol: Its not just the amount we are talking about. the point here is that the Apex banker of the naton does not even know how the how basic oil arithmetic is done. It is very shameful that early commentators in industry just laughed at SLS's folly when they heard $49 missing in 18 months.Sanusi sent a private letter to the President. If someone leaked it without his permission, is that 'going sensational'? As for your take on Sanusi's competence, the fact that he has won more awards on merit for his job than nearly everyone else in this Government should give you an idea on how competent he is. Sorry, the money is by far the most important thing, not any petty jibes at Sanusi. That money can improve the standard of living of millions. Stop these childish games and act like a patriotic Nigeria, you worthless Esau! |
andyanders: This CBN governor has done more harm than good with most of his policies as he sees himself as the only intelligent economist Nigeria EVER had and that is wrong as nobody has monopoly of knowledge.1. Sanusi's letter to the President was written MONTHS before OBJ's letter. Sanusi NEVER went to the media with it. 2. There remains no evidence that GEJ ever acted on the letter 3. The fact that you gloss over the missing $10bn that NNPC and the Finance Minister accepted says a lot about you. The only person here with an agenda is yourself. Coming here to lie and spread misinformation about a man who has won far more awards on merit than GEJ can ever dream of. I'm sure Sanusi puzzles people like you who are easily bought. He is not interested in politics, not interested in sparing corruption, not interested in hiding theft, not interested in a second term. He will not be cowed. Sanusi is to be admired. Lapdogs like you that have tried to tar him with the feathers of 'Islamist', 'womanizer' and now 'whistleblower' are to be treated with derision and regarded as scum. |
mercy3103: It is just too late for GEJ to know that the man in CBN is just but a clear destroyer of the Nigerian economy! Who tells you that all the reforms he has been doing were not to serve a particular interest? How sure are we that all those allegations he made against those five banks were actually genuine? Is the CBN governor not a a reckless talkative who instead of being a technocrat obviously turn to be a loose talkative? To me, this is not an ideal Central Bank governor anywhere in the world. Was it the same way the western world handled their banking crisis that Sanusi handled that of Nigeria by destroying the very flourishing banking industry left by Charles Soludo. No wonder he(Sanusi) bluntly said he was not going for the Second term, since he knew he had carried out all the agenda given to him by his cohort. Sanusi has clearly done much damage to the economy of Nigeria. It's a pity!!!BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! So the banks left by Soludo were 'flourishing' yet many went on to declare losses for quarter after quarter, sack thousands of staff to remain profitable and write off hundreds of billions of Naira loans? The same Soludo that was hobnobbing with bankers that were soon to face criminal prosecution and were exposed as thieves? So the evidence used to convict Cecilia ibru and indict 'Pastor' Erastus Akingbola was false? The same Soludo under whose watch the Naira fell from N118 to a dollar to around N147? Or the same Soludo that spent billions on a switch to Polymer notes that any decent research could have told him that they have a penchant to wear when old? The only thing damaged here is your brain. A well placed slap from me can cure you if you desire to be saved. |
ilugunboy: Indeed.....I never believe a day will come to see mikeansy acting this way.My brother, Money is such a powerful tool indeed. A contract here, some brown envelopes there...and the once upright man is turned into a lapdog. |
mikeansy: Sanusi has no integrity whatsoeverAh, that I have lingered on Nairaland long enough to witness mikeansy turn into a shameless sycophantic bootlicker! How are the mighty fallen! |
ucyoma: .NEVER underrate GEJ intelligience by mistaking his quietness 2 b foolishness( Ask Turai yar'adua, she will tell u)LMAO. Already revising history so soon? The Yar'Adua camp were running rings around GEJ until the outcry from Nigerians became too much and the matter became too hot to handle. Yar'Adua's failure to recover meant that Turai's power was bound to wane, anyway. |
biopat: Bro, he has said nothing to indicate that. He's only addressing d "poor" who struggles to posses what d "rich" has, when he has better issues to address with money. i.e, the poor who majors on minor issues.Ah, but he IS poor. Poverty of the mind is a very bad thing indeed. Why else would someone make the blanket assumption that everyone who upgrades their phones do so at the expense of their standard of living and their future financial stability? His statement was in condemnation of everyone that updates their phones semi-frequently. Not just the 'poor' folks. biopat: But wait oooo.....DanGOATe, Watin b ur net worth?Way more than yours, kiddo ![]() |
pekelepekele: I pity those that are always upgrading their phones time to time . You see most of them by the roadside struggling to catch a bus while the phones they are using can buy benz 190 . They live in a single room apartment but yes techno p this and z that . iphone q , r and t they never miss buying them. You must be poor. I sympathize with your plight. |
step1: A state is not meant to provie electricity for you but rather the FG/private investors nowThen can the Lagos State Govt and their agents on Nairaland stop beating their chests about their massive strides in internally generated power? Can they work with the FG to improve electricity distribution networks? Power situation in Lekki is a joke! |
I never knew Lekki wasn't a part of Lagos. Power situation there is abysmal. Shame on the Lagos State Government! |
Girls and their...... Well RIP
Stoopid people like yourself and their unreasoning ability to jump to conclusions. |
Of course most of the so called mods are paid agents of OPC or is it APC they now call it. Their sole aim is to sell one severely biased point of view, and since Nigerians rarely try to reason out a gossip, they will help them spread the falsehood by swallowing their lies hook-line and sinker. Making this thread front page will make people think for themselves. Which is not the purpose of NL mods.
Why should this tripe make frontpage? This is a letter from a member of the public, not an editorial from any Vanguard reporter or an expose from any Vanguard journalist I'm surprised you do not see the irony in calling out Nigerians for listening to gossip yet you want one man's letter to be published to the front page and treated as canon. The fact that the OP cunningly attributes this to the Vanguard shows the level of duplicity in him. |

Where were you when your leaders/mentors vowed to make the nation ungovernable for GEJ
