Can't say he didn't deserve this. Whatever your points on the relatively lenient sentences the likes of Ibru have obtained, it is MORONIC to criticize the judge here because he wasn't the same dude in the Ibru case.

Babangida steals N3 Trillion and he his celebrated.

A man steals mobile handset and he must hang.

What a country of idiots we are.
YOU are the idiot. The man stole using dangerous weapons, ergo he's an armed robber. The punishment for armed robbery in Nigeria is DEATH. This is following the letter of the law 100%

The only question now is which teaching Hospital will get his corpse when he is dead. LUTH or UBTH?

Zero tolerance for Armed robbers! If you like, cling to this 'Obasanjo stole 10 trillion' rubbish...go and steal with a weapon and see if you will not also get the hangman's noose.

Phones › Re: Android, Anyone? Part II by texazzpete(m): 10:47am On May 23, 2013
shosky1794: Let's address the issue and leave out the person. The Chinese stopped worshipping the West at some point which is what we still do. That's why the West now buy Chinese too. That's what this so called Tecno is showing us (learn from the Chinese and this your Western infested attitude). It's only for a greater Nigeria and nothing else.

By the way, those apps you talked about work well on Tecno devices. Do your findings well.
This is not about 'worshipping the West'. The Tecno phones you folks laud and worship are cheap with flimsy build quality, low resolution LCD screens with average viewing angles, low end components and meager RAM. They are COMPROMISE devices, entry level phones for Android newbies or folks on a budget.
Please do not bill this as 'Chinese worshipping the West'. That is an essentially moronic point of view when one considers that the company that sells the most smartphones in the world is not a Western company (Samsung). Even back in the days when HTC was still a major force, they made up a large chunk of Windows Mobile and Android sales...and they aren't western companies.

Not everything 'Chinese' is low quality. Lenovo makes phones with cheap components too for the budget market, but they make use of the cream of the crop of the cheap components. Months after the release of the Quad core Mediatek MTK6589 Quad Core SoC (quad core Cortex A7, paired with a very good SGX 544 GPU), there is no single Tecno phone model in Nigeria running this chipset...instead they flood the market with the much older dual and single core models from 2011/2012.

https://www.etotalk.com/images/v/201303/13630164840.jpg

The phone above is a Lenovo A820. Sold for around $150. Quad core 1.2ghz, 960 x 540 4.5 inches IPS screen, PowerVR SGX 544 GPU, 8MP camera, 1GB RAM, Android Jellybean. More importantly, it's an official carrier phone for China Mobile and has great build quality. This is the kind of cheap phone the Nigerian market needs, not the crap from Tecno that gets zero support. Which tecno phone has specs and build quality this good?

For all you folks that need budget phones, thank your God that Lenovo plans to launch phones in Africa this year. This tecno low end craze should be countered by decent budget phones.
Politics › Re: Sanusi To FG: Dont Overspend On Military Operations, by texazzpete(m): 7:50am On May 23, 2013
There is a VERY serious literacy problem in Nairaland.

Sanusi is the Central Bank Governor. His job is to watch over the economy. His job is to caution about overspending...and he has just said that. He has not said the war should end or that Boko Haram should be left alone. But if you folks don't think that there are many people who will be made billionaires as a result of this war, you're more sheepish than I thought.

This is how you know an educated illiterate.

This is a democracy. Anyone who does not want to work is on his own, but that is not a crime. YOU CANNOT ARREST SOMEONE FOR REFUSING TO WORK OR REFUSING TO ENROL IN YOUR PET PROJECT, OR REFUSING TO GET A JOB! Why can't you and your clueless Rochas get this simple fact?

As for Sagging, even though I think the folks doing it must be pretty daft, sagging is NOT indecent exposure and does not show off any of the body's erogenous zones. Stupidity, yes, but a personal choice. What the heck is wrong with Rochas?!

Defend your democracy if you have common sense and stop foisting your moral values on others when they are committing no crime.

shymexx: And no, ask America about the massive amount of game changing weapons it shipped to Israel during the 5-day war. There's nothing invincible about Israel - without Washington, there won't be Israel, to be honest.
How is it logistically possible to ship 'massive amounts of game changing weapons' within 5 days?

I also missed the part where you explained where the Egyptian and Syrian MiGs and Tupolevs came from. It's only wrong when the Americans sell arms abi?

Israel isn't 'invincible', but they have the best equipped army in the middle east...and a large portion of their weaponry is either home made or foreign purchases with significant Israeli upgrades.

shymexx: You know hezbollah defeated Israel in 2006, right? The videos of crying Israeli soldiers are still all over youtube.

Wars are unpredictable and I'm sure the morale of the Syrian army is high as ever after all the gains they have made in the past few months. Add hezbollah and basij forces to that and it becomes difficult to call.
Hezbollah defeated Israel?!

LMFAO! The IDF failed to crush Hezbollah before pulling out, and that was construed as a 'victory' by the Hezbollah side which had suffered BY FAR the worst of the casualties.
Defeat ke...it was a PR and Political boon for Hezbollah, but dem neva born them to defeat the IDF.

There are videos of Syrian soldiers being killed by the rebels. Does that mean the Syrian war is over and the Rebels won?

However I suggest that the old man should leave his gray hair resting by feeling at home with the accolades being given to the late prof. May be he is afraid he may not get so much of a eulogy as the late prof.when joins his ancestors. Just normal to be envious though, its natural.
What a child you are, to think everything is all about 'accolades'.

If Chinua Achebe wanted accolades, why did he twice turn down the GCON award?!

This is the problem with people like you...you see everything in black and white only. What benefit to Soyinka or Achebe are 'accolades' from lesser mortals like State Governors or legislooters?

Wole Soyinka had no desire to tackle his friend on the pages of newspapers. You think he's a shallow as you are? If you weren't blinded by your tribal rage, you'd see that the OP is an excerpt from an interview where he was pressed to provide his views.

How dare you call Wole Soyinka of all people a coward?! You will struggle hard to find a braver man than he in Nigeria.

Afam4eva: Why do i have to google him to know him. I know Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. I never said there were no writers before Achebe. I only asked for a writer before Achebe whose works are globally or even nationally of villagely(permit my french)acclaimed. How many writers use Ahmed Baba as a point of reference as much as Achebe?
Can you explain to me why it is so important for one man in this modern era to be named the 'father of African Literature', even when you know African Literature has existed for years?

You folks bring shame to Achebe's legacy...he never had a reputation as a glory hunter, twice rejecting national awards. Why is this craze to bestow a title on him that in life he never put a claim to?
Politics › Re: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by texazzpete(m): 12:22pm On May 19, 2013
babyosisi: Wole Soyinka should be careful not to destroy the legacy he has built by involving himself in unsavory affairs.
The first time the Prof disappointed me was when he spoke in support of Patience Jonathan's perm sec appointment, now this.

Chinua Achebe was called the father and grandfather of African literature by others
He did not label himself that
People recognized his immeasurable contribution to African literature and bestowed on him that honor in his lifetime so it is quite petty for WS whom I respect a great to utter such words.
It makes him sound jealous and he should be above such pettiness.
Michael Jackson was called the King of Pop
Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll
Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco While Aretha Franklin is and remains the Queen of soul
That label on Chinua is deserving.

Secondly why speak about Chinua's Book in his death what you couldn't say while he was alive?
I love Soyinka but his words here are beneath a man of his calibre
Maybe old age is setting in
Still respect you sir but you disappoint me here once again
I thank God I am neither Igbo or Yoruba so I can make this statement without being tagged with a tribal brush.

You, my dear, are an imbecilic dolt!
You are one of the ignoramuses WS so aptly described in this interview. What does it matter if 'others' (who WS rightly calls 'misguided' or 'overcome with exuberance')called Achebe the 'father of African Literature'? The man himself never called himself that...nor did any of the major literary icons in Nigeria label him that. So what is this fascination with foisting such a title on him?

babyosisi: It makes him sound jealous and he should be above such pettiness.
Freudian slip? YOU need to get over your jealousy and pettiness.

babyosisi: Michael Jackson was called the King of Pop
Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll
Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco While Aretha Franklin is and remains the Queen of soul
Nobody would ever call Elvis the 'Father of Rock and Roll'. Michael Jackson has never been called the 'father of Pop'.

Basically, you'd have to be a fool to buy any of the Techno phones on sale in Nigeria over this one right now. This has a Quad core CPU, but more importantly, the PowerVR SGX544 GPU is quite powerful and should give graphics as good as the North American version of the Galaxy SIII. The RAM is decent, the screen is top notch, a 720p screen with resolution greater than the Tecno N7 et al.

At 38k, it's easily worth the 9k upgrade from the N7, especially if you love games.

Politics › It's The Northern Elders That Declared War On The North - Chxta's Blog. Agree? by texazzpete(op): 11:41am On May 17, 2013
http://chxta..co.uk/2013/05/who-declared-this-war.html

Truth is bitter, or so the old saying goes. However, if you want to have any form of progress, you have to tell yourself the truth, or a variation of it at least. So let's tell ourselves some hard truths.

Our country's north has some of the worst indices of human development on God's green earth. One of the states in which a state of emergency was declared, Yobe, had only 74 students register for the National Common Entrance Examinations in 2011. Kebbi, also a northern state, had 82! Nigeria is one of only three countries on earth that still has cases of polio. A disease we came close to eradicating ten years ago. The poverty rates in the different geo-political zones of the north are 59.7% (North-Central), 69% (North-East) and 70% (North-West), poverty being defined as those who live on less than US$1 a day. The irony of all of this, is that save the South-South states, Adamawa state, one of the #SoE states, gets more from the federation account (sharing the money), than any state in the South-East as an example. As a matter of fact, both Adamawa and Bauchi get more revenue per person than Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, and Enugu.

And no, the problem with Northern Nigeria is not as a result of Islam. Some of the most progressive countries on the planet, think Turkey and Qatar, are Islamic countries. No, the problem with Northern Nigeria is the naked greed and avarice of the successors of Ahmadu Bello. That is the reason why, from the safety of the Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, these geezers can tell the President that he has "declared war on the north"!

No Sirs, you declared war on your own people by not taking care of them
