Seriously though, we're supposed to have freedom of religion in this country. If that's his religious preference, why are you guys persecuting him?

At least from my Primary school, i was taught that the three religions in Nigeria are Christianity, Islam and African Traditional Religion.

The truth is, we Christians are so often as guilty of religious intolerance as the Muslims we always point fingers at.

I think the Mods here also need to take some of the blame. In every other forum i belong to, in any section where goods are sold, there's always a sticky post listing the dos and donts, giving helpful tips on how to avoid being scammed.

There is no such sticky post on Nairaland. And that's shocking.

This is a big lapse IMHO, and it needs to be fixed ASAP.

Also a referral system could be put in place to help identify the good guys.

I think BizBook's idea is sound. So if an untrusted guy puts up a new Auto post, the Mod could insert a one line post below his offer "Buyer discretion is advised. XXXX has not yet been certified by Nairaland"
That will encourage the salesman to get certified (or what you guys call it).

In the meantime, what do we do about the scam carried out by Ptconsults?

MyJoe:
This is exactly what happened. I am still struggling to understand the danger posed to Israel by that ship.
Add "former US diplomats".
Strategic thinking isn't your strong point, is it?
You allow one armada to break the blockade and you encourage others. And you'll have others running guns and missiles into Gaza.
The naval blockade and the destruction of tunnels is the main reason why the Gaza rocketry is limited to home made Qassam rockets. Imagine the destruction if advanced missiles are being launched from Gaza into Israeli territory. What will you say then?

If your concern is for the people of Gaza, you should also be concerned at the escalation of the doctrine of hatred spread by Hamas.

Sagamite:
They were unarmed.

If you carry a hammer and attack someone on the road and he in the process picks up a stone on the floor, you can't say you used the hammer because they were armed. The found what they could that would have not been a threat to you if you had not attacked.
Is it so hard to be truthful? Is your hatred for Israel so much that you resort to spreading FUD?

We see a video of the first wave of IDF commandos rappelling down to the ship. Guess which party attacked first?

You've been using false and misleading analogies all day long. To what end?
Foreign Affairs › Re: Israel Fires On Unarmed Aid Convoy. Many Dead! by texazzpete(m): 4:01pm On Jun 01, 2010
Sagamite:
The correct analogy is that: you are told by someone they are visiting the neighbour and YOU SUSPECT they might be bringing them stones. The someone has no option but to pass through your front yard to get to the neighbours house, you refuse to give permission and you have german sheppard dogs in the front yard that you can set on them if they don't comply.

There is no too late in the analogy. Stop trying to raise anxiety that does not exist. Everything was under control.

Do you still go outside your gates to club the visitor on the head because you suspect he might have stones in his briefcase?
So according to your analogy, if you send the German Shepherds to sniff the visitors for illegal substances and the visitors immediately set on the German Shepherds with clubs and slingshots, who will you blame when the visitor gets beaten?

The problem you have is that in your eyes, Israel is GUILTY no matter what they do. Which is why you've seen video evidence that the activists escalated the violence and yet you still discard it and stick to your guns.  Keep an open mind!
Foreign Affairs › Re: Israel Fires On Unarmed Aid Convoy. Many Dead! by texazzpete(m): 10:34am On Jun 01, 2010
Sagamite:
I repeat:

Isreal attacked and killed unarmed people in international waters that were not a direct, immediate and uncontrolable threat to them.
And i repeat : the video clearly showed armed activists attacking Israeli commandos.

This is the obvious truth. I don't know why some of us have coloured our sense of morality so much with religion that we become blind to the obvious.
What is happening in Gaza is a disgrace to humanity; how much better is the situation there than it was in apartheid South Africa?
The only way Israel can ensure its security, is by finding an equitable solution to the Palestinian problem. It isn't by storming aid ships with commando's and shooting civilian volunteers dead; in fact I would say that the repercusions might be dire for all sides.

Are there real security concerns ob the Israeli side? Yes there are, but Israeli actions have started turning World opinions against them. Israel is beginning to look like a rogue state.
Funny enough, weren't you among the ranks of those that jubilated when MEND sailed to Lagos' Atlas Cove and opened fire, killing innocent Naval personnel and civillians alike?
Six civillans killed in that attack - no word of condemnation from you then. Only pure, unalloyed joy.

I think you're deliberately misstating the situation. Storming the ships with commandos was not necessarily a bad call. Would you have preferred they landed aboard the ships with Boy scouts?
We've seen videos that show the commandos being mobbed and beaten with sticks and bars. I don't know if you know this but beatings with bars and clubs are not fun. We've seen the Israeli soldiers being assaulted by the civillians. That alone is enough to put the lie to the claims from the organizers that resistance would have just been to stand in the way of the captains quarters etc. The activists actively attacked the IDF soldiers.
Please review the video evidence.

There's still a lot to condemn in the actions of the IDF, but to absolve the activists of all blame and responsibility and to neglect the video evidence of their armed resistance  is a shocking case of bias.

Gullibility is a biatch, you actually believe armed people with intent to kill would be raided by commandoes and none of the commandoes would be dead ? No suicide bombing, nothing ? You must be kidding me.
1. Watch the video
2. Israeli commandoes aren't exactly a pushover.
3. None of the people on board would be stupid enough to  try suicide bombing. Suicide bombing will kill even their allies, plus will also immediately associate the entire mission with terrorism.

I think what probably happened is the turkish guys on board may have lost their cool when they spotted the commandos attempting to clamber on-board the ship and attacked them.
They really ought to have refrained from attacking the israelis. That way, they would have still got the world outraged AND the aid would still have been turned over to Gaza.

They achieved their aim sha. After this PR disaster, Israel is going to have to open that blockade.

PapaBrowne:
Story story. . . . . . . Story!!!

Everybody has seen the results of Sanusi's actions!
Job losses everywhere. Capital Flight. Damaged investor's confidence. A devastating blow to Entrepreneurship. Credit averseness. Reduced interest rates on fixed deposit (damaging the much needed saving culture). Treasonable decision to give off our coveted national assets to colonial slave-masters. Numerous flip flops from Sanusi's oral cavity. A crying sisi of a Governor. An insensitive Ethno-religious, unqualified, Sudanocentric, merit deficient, quota beneficiary!

Thank God Aganga has taken the centre stage. We can now see more confidence building in the economy as Aganga's assurances are beginning to get investors excited again. Every investor now knows that Sanusi's powers have been melted. He can only act on consultation with and approval from Aganga as Jonathan's representative.
At best, right now, Sanusi is just a figure head in our economy. More like the Queen of England. No real powers.
Brilliant!
Your strategy is insidiously sound! Blame everything bad that happened in Nigeria on Sanusi, and accredit every positive benefit from Sanusi's reforms to Aganga.
Even the Renaissance Professionals need to take lessons from you.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Israel Fires On Unarmed Aid Convoy. Many Dead! by texazzpete(m): 3:18pm On May 31, 2010
Israel really dropped the ball on this one. Their actions in recent years have only served to turn public opinion against their position.

That said, some comments here on the Gaza situation are quite naive. The sea blockade is critical in preventing the influx of weapons (especially sophisticated surface-to-surface missiles) into Gaza. There's no easy solution here

Israel should stop being so heavy-handed and must avoid disproportionate use of force
Hamas needs to stop their support for the rocket attacks into Israel
The middle eastern countries need to do more for the peace process.

There's no easy solution indeed.
Politics › Re: Why Can't Nigerian Newspapers Emulate Sahara Reporters by texazzpete(m): 4:08pm On May 30, 2010
Because an online newspaper can get away with 'informed sources told us that, " and "highly placed sources revealed that, " but a Newspaper publishing house cannot.

Saharareporters once posted a story about a man who claimed that Yar'Adua was a mad man who he used to flog daily to cure, Imagine Guardian publishes that stuff, what do you think the fallout would be?

Of course, no paper news agency will pull off the stupid April Fool's stunt Sahara Reporters pulled (running a story that the Pope had resigned).

Fair enough, i was a bit too critical of you in my last post.
Thirdly, I will always be against forced deportation of any people, be them undocumented migrants or not, even if life is very difficult for them in their host country.
However your point on forced deportation for illegal immigrants is rather naive. Laws are put in place for a purpose. You'll see a clear correlation between illegal immigrants and crime if you carry out a study.
The principle is that people with a valid reason to be in any country shouldn't have too much trouble legalizing it.

If the immigrants have married Polish women, why are they not given legal status? Is that peculiar to Polish law?

Another thought just struck me. If you're so convinced that Poland and the majority of Poles are hostile to blacks (especially those without proper permits), why are you a sworn opponent of deportation of illegals? I should have thought you'd be delighted for the Polish police to ship back all those maltreated black people to their homeland (more often than not, Nigeria)?

Please answer.
I have said earlier that I would not reply to Afam's posts, but I see that I have to break this promise. Afam states:

Already texazzpete "was not convinced if I was a Pole". So texazzpete and Afam seriously doubt if I am a Pole. I am mightily amused by these doubts as to my Polishness. Do you think that it is improbable for a Pole to write critically about his/her country ? Or perhaps you find that a Pole cannot be possibly able to write in  reasonably correct English ? Or perhaps I should begin to write my posts in Polish so as to make you believe that I am Polish ? I based all of my claims on articles and video recordings, I posted links to these articles and videos. I did not ask "to be believed". As I have said in two of my earlier posts, my e-mail address is currently visible in my profile. It is my genuine address, the genuine address of a genuine Polish woman working at a genuine Polish university. Did you really think that my posts were written by some bored Nigerian joker ?! You must be very mistrustful of other people ,

Niektórzy Nigeryjczycy są bardzo podejrzliwi - that is, "some Nigerians are very distrustful", in Polish !
No. frankly, i thought you an impostor because your arguments - and your response to myself and Afam's perfectly logical position - did not show an intellect worthy of a PhD holder in the University of Wroclaw's Sociology Institute.

Also, it's one thing to be critical of the Polish government. It's another to be excessively critical and almost completely negative about the country you claim.
Statements like
Well, I think that I'm a very, very atypical Pole ,  I am often amused when I read what foreigners say or write about Polish mentality etc. because many of the attitudes considered as typically Polish (e.g. strong prejudice against Russians and the idea that it is always beautiful to die fighting the enemy, even when there's not the remotest chance for victory and thousands of civilians are killed in reprisals) are completely alien to me.
Indicate that most Poles are of the evil, racist type you're condemning here. Isn't that generalization?

Finally, your piece on 'undocumented immigrants' or illegal immigrants and deportation was mildly entertaining, but not very bright.

You do seem to be legit, anyway. But try not to let passion get in the way of reason, ok?

We're talking about democracy here - the choice and the will of the people. If most people jubilated when Buhari was removed, it is meaningless to question their rationale. The voice of the majority is the voice of the people in a democracy.

Why don't to tell us in more detail why you get that feeling huh

At Afam,
You cannot be Nigerian - no way!!!
I'd say he's more Nigerian than you.
He stays in Nigeria, works honestly for a living and pays taxes to the Nigerian government. And no be kobo-kobo taxes either.

You sit in the UK, rooting for General Buhari - a devious individual who truncated a democracy via millitary takeover, who worked hard to silence the free press and who now is desperate to return to power even when his first tenure was stolen at gunpoint from Nigerians. This same man is a divisive element whose religious bias is well known.
And yet instead of hanging your head in shame, you dare to judge your betters on their 'Nigerian-ness'

You think patriotism is about setting up facebook groups and ranting on internet forums? Nonsense.
