Someone next to me in the viewing centre made this priceless quote: "Abokis are always the problem with everything in Nigeria" Bloody Kaita! |
Toluene:Sorry, e no dey try too much. A geforce 310M is a low end graphics card. You'll be able to play most games, but at low or medium settings at best with much of the advanced effects turned down. You spent way too much on that laptop. |
ADEBOSUN:We aren't in the middle ages, you dolt. When we say 'quad' now, we're referring to the quad core i7 processors intel is shipping these days. And those, even when clocked low, can employ Intel's Turbo Boost technology to overclock themselves to 2.8 - 3.2 Ghz, depending on the particular i7 processor. a 1.6 Ghz Core i7 processor absolutely slays a 2.4Ghz dual core i5 processor in benchmarks. To further prove how much of a numbskull you are, you post a link to a 2008 article on Tomshardware. 2008?! And to make matters worse, in your haste to post anything to prove your point, you failed to notice that 1. The processors being compared were desktop processors 2. the quad core processor being used as a comparison piece was from AMD, not intel. Here's a protip: When you're in a hole, stop digging. You'll only make yourself seem more foolish ![]() |
Ralvy:I never said it isn't his decision to make. I'm assuming he may not be conversant with his options for running another OS on his macbook pro. Either way, he's brought out a problem, i've provided a quick fix, relatively painless solution which i felt he had been overlooking. Ralvy:*sigh* Your comment would have been valid if he was using a Toshiba laptop of unknown make, but he's using a Macbook Pro. And macbooks have standardised specs. At the very least, even a 2008 macbook pro will still come equipped with a Core 2 Duo processor, more than enough to run Win 7 in Parallels, VMware or Bootcamp. |
ADEBOSUN:Why don't you restrict yourself to speaking about things you understand. Claiming a quad core CPU isn't good for gaming makes you look like a fool, to be honest. |
twittsa:And YOU are missing the point. The easy way to solve all your issues is to either install Win 7 using Bootcamp on your Mac, or use VMware or Parallels to run a virtual Win 7 installation from within your Mac OS. That way you solve all your issues in one swoop. |
kosovo:That does not translate to being a 'show stealer'. The Move section was kinda dissapointing, though. Not a lot of new stuff to show off there. Perhaps the show floor experience will wow the crowds, we'll see. |
Any laptop with those specs will set you back at least 200k in Nigeria (and that's for the lower end 9800 gt and Core Duo configuration). You'll NEVER get a quad core with a 5850 for under $1300. There are no shipping notebooks with the Geforce GTX 470 at the moment. And you can bet your butt they'll cost a whole lot more than 200k ![]() |
Couldn't sell your exorbitantly priced bundle, eh? Word of advice: no one's gonna buy Avatar for 10k. |
hilli666:If you have nothing better to say, just STFU. So kidnappers are now 'victims of circumstance'? I'm from Edo State and i know how bad the situation is now, with people being dragged and kidnapped from schools, markets and churches. And unlike other places in Nigeria, there's at least a 15% chance that the victim ends up dead even after the ransome is paid. I loathe people like you that try to drum up sympathy for monsters. |
kosovo:PS: Portal 2 wasn't exactly a show stealer. It's been announced for ages for the PC and probably for the 360 too. . .Twisted Metal 2 pretty much got a great impact though. |
kosovo:Well, that's what everyone is saying online. No real surprises in the Sony show, hardly any other exclusive AAA title landing in 2010 apart from GT5. 3d still remains an expensive gimmick in the eyes of the vast majority of consumers. Nothing really new on the Move side, to be honest. I don't think they showed anything that blew people away with the Move. It's certainly priced nicely. Nintendo didn't show off nearly as many games as their rivals, but the impact of a new Zelda and a new Kirby game can't be neglected. Plus Metroid: Other M set to arrive later this year. But the show stealer here is most definitely the 3DS. Delaying the PSP2 will kill Sony - graphics are far less important on a handheld console and by the time the PSP2 comes around, the 3DS will have the installed base advantage. Looking back, Microsoft's keynote wasn't that bad. Sure, on the game front they could have showed off a lot more activity, but the new added on features to the 360 are certainly interesting. if they price the Kinect well, they'll sell. |
Yep, the 3DS definitely stole the show. the buzz this year is that Nintendo 'won' E3. I must say that Microsoft definitely disappointed in this one. Sony's Move seems to be gaining momentum. I'll definitely be getting that. Thank goodness no AAA title is coming soon. I need to finish my game backlog. i won't be buying GT5, i'm more of an arcade racer guy but it's looking pretty cool. With 3DS out first, Sony's PSP2 is bound to feel the pressure. By the time it's launching next year, the install base of the 3DS will be HUGE. We'll see. . . |
medjai:So Mozambique has been undefeated for 2 years at home. What the hell has that got to do with them outplaying us with ease? Fact remains that we needed external help to qualify, and we were 10 minutes away from being knocked out. |
it's no wonder you missed the Nintendo Keynote. How the heck can you be following E3 on a Playstation blog? What happened to Joystiq? |
I must say i don't share your hysteria for 3D. 3D's still seen by most as a mere gimmick, and 3d HDTVs are pretty expensive. It's be years before 3dTV penetration gets to the point where this becomes more than a bragging right for Sony or Microsoft. I watched Avatar in 3d, pretty cool. But then Clash and the Titans and Alice in Wonderland showed us how sucky 3d can be if not done right. |
Phillfree:Dear friend, is it true that the Stegosaurus had a spiny tail? (seeing as how you're living in prehistoric times - i mean, 1.1.4?! ) Just kidding. You'll need to move on up to 2.x firmware to get the AppStore. |
Meddler:You do realize that 'HTC Android Phone' can describe at least 7 phones? |
twittsa:Install Windows 7 in Bootcamp. No big Deal. --- Steve ![]() |
medjai:Under Amodu, we've been playing truly mediocre soccer, helped only because our opponents were worse or unlucky. We were comprehensively outplayed by Mozambique in the away qualifier, and only fortunate not to lose that match (they missed some sitters). Our qualification was left in the hands of Mozambique - who did us a massive favour there. It's only in Nigeria where we see people like you insisting that one man's happiness be put above that of millions of his countrymen. Most Nigerians out there had long since lost confidence in Amodu. 'Rewarding' him with the world cup would have been extremely foolish. Just see how France has retrogressed simplybecause the powers that be shied away from sacking Domenech long ago. If Amodu was in charge against Argentina, he'd have waited until the 75th minute before making a change. And that would be kanu. |
9jaganja: 9jaganja:1. less than 5% of 360 owners have hacked xbox 360s. And i wish you wouldn't be so brazen about piracy. 2. The comment on the graphics quality of MGS Rising came from Joystiq members present in the audience. If highly experienced gaming journalists say an incomplete build of MGS: Rising looks as good as MGS 4, who are we to argue? 3. The 360 is every bit as powerful as the PS3. Come November this year, we'll see Crysis 2 show of graphics on the 360 better than those in Killzone and Uncharted 2. Then we'll separate the FUD from fact. |
kosovo:Microsoft showed off Halo: reach and Gears 3. Those are pretty hardcore, if you ask me. And both will probably easily outsell and outlast Killzone 3. Just sayin' Funny enough, the non-gaming aspects of Kinect are reason enough to purchase the peripheral. That could be HUGE. Also, Joystiq never 'hyped the hell out' of Kinect. Where did you get that idea? And if anything, kinect deserves some hype. The tech behind the Kinect is far more ambitious than what Sony came up with the Move. Perhaps any failings with the Move may be from the tech being a bit too ambitious for its own good. kosovo:lol. We'll NEVER see a PSP 2 with 4 SPUs. That alone will make the PSP DoA as battery life will be slaughtered. Besides, Nintendo will release the 3DS which is sure to be technically inferior to the PSP2, but which will murder it in sales (as usual) |
naijaking1: ![]() As other right-thinking members here have pointed out, the thread title is misleading. I have no intention of replying your childish tirade in kind. Talk about drinking Panadol for another man's headache. Good night! |
Seems i was wrong. It apparently still has a power brick, just much smaller than the original. |
@Kosovo On a funny note, Joystiq reports that MGS: Rising on the 360 looked as good as (if not somewhat better) than MGS 4. So much for 'MGS 4 can't be done on the 360', huh? Microsoft failed to impress with their keynote, i must admit. The initial wave of Kinect games seem more casual oriented, we'll see if there are any 3rd party studios showing anything else during E3. I can't wait for Nintendo's E3 conference. Forget the Wii, the 3DS is what i'm waiting for. |
9jaganja:1. smaller 2. More quiet (one fan now instead of two) 3. Bigger hard drive 4. Built in WiFi now 5. Can power the Kinect (no need to plug it in for separate power) 6. two more USB ports (making it 5 total) 7. In built Power unit, no more huge power brick 8. Lighter than the older model |
Ex Inferis:Lol. Wetin clerk wan take core i5 do? A 2Ghz Dell 1545 Core 2 Duo will do just fine for him. Htc Evo? That's CDMA. What are you gonna do with that in Nigeria? Unless you're getting them for the likes of Visafone and Starcomms, but you lose out on resale value. |
Why don't you wait until Microsoft's E3 conference tommorrow? |
seunpayne:Nokia, compete? They're the market leaders, man! And they will remain the market leaders for a long time as long as they can churn out mass market, pocket friendly smartphones like the 5800. Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 phones will be out in Q3/Q4 this year. Where do you get your news from? Your entire post is full of FUD. PS: Android won't catch up to Apple's iOS in a long while. And as soon as Windows Phone 7 hits the market, expect the release rate of android phones to be slowed down considerably. |
cabali:Google is your friend ![]() The iOS4 Gold Master can be installed on iphones and ipod touches - no biggie with ipod touch since you then don't have to worry about unlocking unlike the iphone. I don dey find a clueless person wey i go sell my 3GS to ![]() |
All those calling for a ban have to be on some really potent crack! We're complaining of traffic jam in Lagos and you people want to now double or triple the number of taxi cabs on the road. . .WTH are y'all smoking? If you cannot find a reasonable way to drastically improve the road capacity and resolve the already severe bottlenecks, please leave the common man alone with his Okada. When the lagos state govt finally gets off their butt and start using rail and water transport to get more people off the road, then they can talk about banning Okada. |
awunoruv:lol it doesn't matter if you started using a BB before i did. I've got one. You haven't. Simple as that. The BB messaging system can't be beaten, simple and short. 3rd party push email solutions still cannot hold a candle to BB's messaging prowess. Look, i'll be the first to agree that the Blackberry is nothing special apart from its messaging features. The UI is dated and primitive compared to that of Android, WebOS and iOS. The web browser is beyond pathetic. But the N97 itself is mediocre. Even Nokia admitted being dissapointed with the final product. the Symbian OS running on it is clunky, tired and riddled with inconsistencies. The touchscreen is extremely inferior compared to the flagship Android and WinMo , not to talk of the Palm Pre and iPhone. There's a reason why Nokia's been scrambling to revise the OS for the N8's launch. And there's a reason why Nokia's smartphone marketshare has been dropping like a brick. The Nokia CEO almost lost his job over his inability to make gains in the smartphone market. In fact, only the 5800 (cheap, mass market smartphone with good youth appeal), the N97 mini and the excellent E-Series phones kept Nokia's smartphone share this high. The OP asked for a choice between two phones that have their flaws and their strong points. In reality, i would recommend neither of the two. Let the OP add a little extra cash and buy a Google Nexus One for a little extra. Android is the way to go if you don't like the iPhone. |
