Business › Re: Entire Computer Village Shut Down Over Tax by texazzpete(m): 1:09pm On Nov 21, 2008
princekevo:
As long as the government makes appropriate use of the taxes.I think every businesses or individuals are expected to pay their taxes. But as long as the tax is moderate for the tax payers. We can't only depend on our natural resource for every little budget.Neither shall we expect them to get the job done with their own private money.
But i guess in Nigeria case this issue is very difficult handle.Cause the question remains, will or are government making efffective use of the tax payers money?Do the tax payers gets in return their benefits from the government which are, good roads,Good educational system, good water supply, good and affordable medical health care, employment opportunities, etc. All these are the basic benefits that encourages the citizen to be faithful with taxes. Until you an answer to this question before u can judge is Gov. Fashola is right or wrong.
Excellent! You hit the nail on the head. I guess paying taxes can be a bitter pill to swallow especially when it seems precious little is done with the monies collected. But there's still a trickle down effect to the masses from taxes paid. If no taxes are paid at all, then there will be far less money to spend on our development.

Not paying taxes means the citizen has already given up on Nigeria. We do this in the hope that one day a good crop of leaders can harness these huge sums the citizenry contribute and make Nigeria a better place. Until then, we should do our part.

Complaining without paying taxes is just like refusing to vote yet complaining about our leaders.

very funny what some people post.

Pay tax before complaning.

Ok I, pay tax. Can I now complain?
Yes! You can now complain. If you don't pay taxes, the government owes you nothing.
Why do you think the American public are very conscious of how their monies are spent? When you pay taxes then you become a stakeholder. No taxes = parasitism.
Educative and informative indeed. Trash, Birds of same feather.
Usually the 'Politics' section attracts measured, intelligent discourse. Once in a while however, retards like yourself get in the door.

damola1:
Plus, you all think it's just about the traders.

The gravity of how many people it affected won't be known, and the revenue lost, which I strongly believe will run into over a Billion, in just the last 48hours, cannot really be ascertained.
Revenue lost to who? if these traders don't remit their taxes to the state and federal government, what loss does the Government incur?

damola1:
You know if I want to tackle this issue further, I strongly believe Fashola is tout or never really went to school.
I rather believe anyone who 'strongly believes' that a serving state governor (who won a viciously contested election) did not go to school must be lacking in the logic department.

damola1:
1. Inform the Traders of the need to pay taxes, special information, not radio jingle, flyer, and one on one, at least all the bankers and microfinance bank go from one store to another with their marketers.

2. He should put in place an accountability system to checkmate how much is being made, and help separate profit from cost of production.

3. Advise on need to collect tax, and state how is calculated.

4. Then after which he'll inform them of the need to collect or they face the law.

Chikenaa!
Why does the state government have to grovel before people discharge their civic duty? Do we really need to go house-to-house, shop-to-shop, cap in hand an appeal to people to pay taxes before they do so?

There is always bound to be harsh criticism from selfish quarters for progressive schemes. Minor irritation at not being able to purchase a printer or a computer should not automatically transmit to unneeded blame on the government for doing the right thing. Tax evasion is the norm in this country and it's time the kid gloves came off and a strong message is sent out.

The kid glove treatment people like damola advocate is what has crippled the fight against piracy in Alaba or fake drugs in onitsha. Every time the police raid those places you see crowds there condemning them for 'depriving people of lost revenue'.

Anyone here who claims not to have heard jingles on the radio and television about paying taxes for the past couple of years has to be a liar.
It's a crying shame that some people do not pay taxes. That in itself is a form of treason and usually tax offences are treated with extreme seriousness. How does the government get money if you do not pay taxes?

Computer Village has a leadership and a union. Closing the whole village is a strong means of drumming the tax issue into their heads.
It's a pity Nigerians are so greedy that they want amenities without doing their part. Pay your tax before you have a right to complain. Simple.

One thing that you should know is that all these newly released games on PC consume lots of memory. There is no guarantee that it will work but, there is no harm in trial. Better still if you can get a 16MB. I've used 16 on WE9 and it was slow
You've used a 16MB card on a 3 year old game and it was 'slow', yet you see nothing wrong in recommending it to another user?!

We are not talking some terrible physical deformity or disease here. No one is perfect and we all have something about us that if we had a choice will like to change. . . . of all the things that can go wrong in ones life, I think having stretchmarks isnt even worth mentioning and thats why I assumed it must have been a kid who wrote that.
Perhaps since he loves his babe so much, maybe he doesn't know it's common to many women?

However,

Orikinla:
The majority of these so-called educated elites are also the leading intellectual illiterates and intellectual hypocrites posing and posturing with false airs and graces, because most of them cannot tell the difference between Chris Abani and Helon Habila or even tell us what makes Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie different from Sefi Atta in contemporary Nigerian literature. Do not waste your time asking them why nobody won the last Nigeria LNG Prize for Science, because they will disappoint you. Yet, they can tell you the names of all the players in the first team of Arsenal Football Club or Manchester United Football Club of England. They can also tell you the full details of bizarre pornographic scenarios of the last Big Brother Africa on cable TV and their fellow intellectual illiterates aping American Pop Idols on Sound City and Channel O and corrupting the ignorant and naïve Nigerian teenage boys and girls with their psychedelic and pornographic songs and musical videos.
This section is completely unneccessary. You might as well opine that Enrico Fermi or Werner von Braun could only be considered intelligent by yourself if they could launch into a lengthy discourse of Tolstoy' works, or write narratives on Lord Byron's poems.
People choose their own diversion and hobbies. Some of the truly intelligent NIgerians i've met do some of their best reasoning while listening to rap music grin

lol. You're taking the lazy man's approach here. There's a thread called 'IPhone Killer Apps'. There's also yet another 'Iphone vs N95' thread opened recently. If you could be arsed to read these, you'd find the answers you seek.

It's clear you love HTC and WinMo devices. But windows mobile is getting seriously dated here and no amount of coverup will change that. And yes, i ditched my Htc TYtN for my iPhone. The ease of use and strong all round features tore apart the competition.

It's a pity all the people you've been 'confronting' cannot show you just what you are missing, but i cannot spare any time to discuss with your ilk. Get your lazy arse off the floor and go read through all the iphone threads.

I'm somewhat amused you people think this represents great breakthrough. The satellite was built by China, Launched by china, monitored mainly from China.

First off, you cannot launch rockets in a metropolitan environment in secret. The noise, the shockwaves, the plumes of flame and smoke are all visible telltales.

Homeless palestinians have been launching Qassam II rockets for years now. germany launched the v1 and V2 rockets during world war 2, over 60 years ago and we're here imagining we're catching up.

I just hate it when people that don't know anything about how people abroad do research work to understand a disease and find its cure go about raising fund for their work just open their mouths and talk they don't know that its not proper to just develope a drug and start testing it on humans because the path to finding cure for a disease involves a lot of trail and error before one achieves result and its not what you test on human untill you are sure and even then you have to recruit willing HIV patients to run trial with the permission of the govt. Its only in nigeria that people like texazz, expect researchers to use their hiv positive towns men as live guinea pigs who ever heard of such huh
The people overseas that request funds for their research solicit funds after showing with reasonable certainty that they expect a positive end result. They usually post technical papers in reputable medical journals and they usually have a reputation in the medical community.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether Abalaka published any paper in any reputable medical journal, or if he even went into any detail of his work. And before you conspiracy theorists go there, he could have applied for a patent before releasing some details.
Without doing that, the medical community is a likely to take notice of him as they would take notice of me if i claimed i had the cure for HIV.

hannydarl:
they don't know that its not proper to just develope a drug and start testing it on humans because the path to finding cure for a disease involves a lot of trail and error before one achieves result and its not what you test on human untill you are sure and even then you have to recruit willing HIV patients to run trial with the permission of the govt.
And this is where you fail the stupidity test. Abalaka came out claiming to have already cured some HIV positive patients. And you know this. So why the sudden reluctance to continue his cures when the public eyes had focused on him?
Like it or not, this is Nigeria. Trado-medical doctors have historically never needed government permission before treating patients. HIV infected patients are not likely to be picky, anyhow.
So Abalaka himself has established the fact that he HAD run human trials without the permission of the Government.

What people like you and basking4me are effectively saying is that a Nigerian discovered the greatest medical breakthrough in the last decade and has sat on it for almost three years simply because 'he was not sponsored by government'.

Run that through your mind over and over and see if that makes any sense.

HINT: It doesn't.
Phones › Re: Iphone Vs N95 by texazzpete(m): 11:48am On Nov 14, 2008
Now for some sobering news for you;
The N95 was one of the last Nokia phones to come with a GPU. The N96, N85, N81, N82 etc rely on software to render the Ngage games. As a result, most Ngage games will not be optimized to use the GPU, so expect iPhone games to emerge as graphically superior titles.
Phones › Re: Iphone Vs N95 by texazzpete(m): 11:47am On Nov 14, 2008
@pc guru
Only shows how much you don't know. The omap2420 is a processor with the PowerVR GFX card embedded in it. Any demo you bring up will be a demo of the GPU and not of the specific phone, so i expect them to perform alike.
In CPU benchmarks the iPhone outmuscles the N95. And on the OpenGL ES benchmarks, the N95 gets slightly higher scores simply because it has a much smaller screen (and resolution) to render polygons to. Both are running the same GPU.
Dual Core CPU is just a red herring. The N95 can only bring 332 Mhz to bear on its tasks.

pc guru:
no keypad oh.i guess on screen pad will be made or accelerometer,
Have you actually tried to play an Ngage game on the N95?! Controls suck with the hardware keypad. Nokia only solved the clumsy control issue with phones like the N81 and N96

pc guru:
.iphone is good.i get but phone of the future please.Appstore overshadows ngage, okay maybe.but will iphone fit in the gaming market.no way.except they make a joystick(Ipad).
You haven't been following the news, have you? over 10 million downloads of games from the Apple Appstore. Wall Street Journal and Forbes have written articles calling the iPhone the new kid on the gaming block. Apple is targeting the Nintendo DS and the PSP with their new gaming oriented strategy. For you to claim that the iphone is making no headway in the gaming market shows you are far behind the curve.

Think outside the box. There are games that do not need joysticks to play. Try Asphalt 4 on the iPhone and see if you can go back to the Ngage version. try Spore, star wars etc. The touchscreen adds an extra layer of control that the Ngage store cannot match.

First off, i must express my EXTREME dissapointment with all these boneheads talking about Abalaka. Did the Wright brothers receive Government help before they flew their plane? Did Galileo receive government help?

The man says he made his cure from low cost herbs and stuff. There are thousands of Nigerians living with HIV/Aids in Bonny and Benue state, do you think if he had set up shop there with his so called 'cure' he wouldnt have been rolling in dough and been world famous?
He challenged the Government to send proven cases of HIV to him. Does he not know where he could get thousands to experiment on?

The truth is Abalaka never had the cure. It defies logic that someone would hold the holy grail of medicine and be complaining of lack of Government support. Some people just thrive on the attention, like those guys in the US that claimed they had found a corpse of Bigfoot. Shame some people here on Nairaland are easily misled.
