There is more about Lagos than all that. Lagos represent a facinating destination not only to job seekers but also thousand of whites as well. About 30% of the island is populated by this journalist brother. So if Lagos is that bad what are doing here? Truth is Lagos is no different from other major city in the world - the rich and the poor abound. Me think the writer's anger for Lagos is similar to that of John McCain for Obama - this is our exclusive preserve mentality. Wake man the world is changing, its time for the black continent to take back what rightly belongs to it. Its our time.
How did you manage to deduce 'anger' and racism from that article when none existed?
Your first post on Nairaland and you just had to sound like an idiot, didn't you?
These fools talk as if Nigeria starts and ends in Lagos, its like saying America starts and ends in the ghetos of Bronx and flood infested black neighbourhoods down south.

Go to Abuja and see, granted, Lagos is in shambles, but it is completely wrong to use that as a yardstick to measure the country Nigeria. Visit Calabar and see, drive through Port Harcourt and see, go to a few northern cities and see, to me, it is a fool who uses what he sees in Lagos as a yardstick to conclude about situations in the entire country Nigeria.
Yet again you miss the point of the entire article. The only thing you've succeeded in doing so far is showing us all that you aren't very bright indeed

Of course the NY tImes writes articles about America. They also write articles about India, China, the Middle east, london etc. Every so often NEwsweek and TIME do a special feature on other places. The current TIME magazine has an article on Cuba as a cover feature.
In short, they write about the world.

Don't know why you've got your panties in a bunch over a simple article, There's nothing sinister about it, it's just a plain old expose. Nothing more.

You rant and ramble on as if the writer gave you a wedgie.

Flyuche
Now you're taking on Netbooks too?
Most netbooks come with a 9 - 10 inch screen, a 1.6Ghz intel Atom processor, 120 - 160 GB hdd and run a standard windows OS. And you can compare them to a device running a much slower ARM chip with a far smaller and lower res screen, weaker WiFi and a dodgy OS?
You keep referring to 'children' and 'toys' in your posts. Is this a freudian slip?

I have since come to the realization that you do not know much about technology. And you're too lazy to do any basic research.

My fault for feeding the troll.

PS: You do realize, don't you, that the N97 will not be out until mid 2009. And then it'll be going up against the next generation iPhone. Good luck to it!

Yes you are right But there is something you don't get clear, If Nigeria government is good then the citizens wont be forced to the corruptive or improper acts. MInd you there is corruption everywhere but their is also limitations to it.

But the case of Nigeria's corruption is due to the bad governance, I am sure you understand that if people have 70-80 percent of the basic things the need in life, they wont be any reason for then to mis-act partake in any improper things. All is was the cus of the money not flowing around Nigeria and Nigeria which means the money goes to some selected people (government officials and politicians and their family), So how do you want others to survive when they don't have and no hope of having ?

GOVERNMENT IS THE CAUSE !!!
Pah!
So explain why at least 70% of the boys doing Yahoo Yahoo are still in secondary school or are undergraduates, people who have not yet had a taste of the harsh realities of life on their own.

Whether governmen is the cause or not, corruption has taken root in Nigeria. it has since been enshrined as a way of life. This scheme of yours is doomed to failure because when the time comes Nigerians never have the spine to take a stand.

And please, don't even mention Thailand. We all know such a thing will hardly be possible in Nigeria.

Thank you "Negro_Ntns", I have always seen your points from your words to develop Nigeria. We are clear and we all know the main thing, "NIGERIA IS CORRUPT DUE TO BAD POLITICIANS IN GOVERNMENT"
One of the reasons why Nigeria is in a shambles is because we believe the above statement.
Corruption in Nigeria resides not only in the Elite, but in nearly all strata of the Nigerian society. Corruption has become a way of life, a means to an end and the holy grail of personal satisfaction.
There is little difference between the Minister stealing millions, the Principal siphoning school funds, the enterpreneur who does not pay salaries for months and the market women who use the bottom of the tin cup to measure rice.

Take nairaland as an example. Any topic on taxes and 419 shows that a huge chunk of our youth are in favour of tax evasion and offer tacit support for Yahoo yahoo. yet we still hide under the self-righteous belief that 'corruption of politicians is killing the country'

There's a reason songs glorifying corruption and ill-gotten wealth like 'Yahoozee' and 'Maga don pay' are chart toppers in Nigeria. And it's not because of politicians. It's the ordinary youths out there that are grooving to these insidious lyrics.
Even if we kill all the politicians alive today, the youth of today are far more greedy that their precursors.

In a predominantly Muslim LG, distributing rams to people, if fairly done and not cornered by a set of people, I believe, is part of welfare package from the people.

It would have been a different case if the price of the cows had been ridiculously high but N28,000 per ram isn't out of place. Even poor us here bought 13 rams ranging from N18,000 to N22,500 each for the just concluded sallah.
WTF?!
My neighbour bought his own Ram for N29000. Bloody ripoffs in Port Harcourt!
Politics › Re: In Kano: Seven Million Naira For 250 Rams! by texazzpete(m): 2:16pm On Dec 09, 2008
That boils down to about N28000 per goat. Is that too bad? Not sure how much a goat costs now but i'm sure N28k isn't too crazy.

Not sure why a local Govt council is distributing goats to people sha. Local Govts are meant to use their monies to improve the lot of their people wthrough sustainable development, not handing out goats to select people.

My point is you cannot use isolated cases to judge a device.

What amuses me is that the reviews flyuche posted here are not even on the first page, he had to go dig down deep to find something negative to say about the phone.

@flyuche
if you cannot afford an iPhone, you can buy an ipod touch instead. No phone but you get other great features. No sense in you being consumed by envy  grin

Now, i set up this thread to discuss Killer Apps on the iphone and ipod touch. If you must bash the device itself please do so on another thread

See Inferis' post above. we get full HTML browsing on the iPhone's safari browser. Unless there's a need to trim down the traffic for those using GPRS (and are cash strapped) there's no need to go to the wap site. especially over WiFi.

@dakmanzero
Since you're talking about things relevant to Nigerian culture, i'm not sure of the success of any such game.
First off, Nigerians are enthralled by visuals. it's 3D or nothing. With such a limited budget, i doubt any game made will have cutting edge visuals and hence it'll suffer in comparison to contemporary games.
Add to that the lack of interest from younger gamers in many things pertaining to Nigerian culture and values.
Distribution is another issue. Since it obviously will be PC only, getting an unpirated version may be challenging. Also PC gamers are a far more discerning breed than the shambling zombies that watch home videos, so they'll be a harder sell.

Are you seriously considering this? Expect a call from me soon.

Finally, you may want to consider using any of the available middleware like Unity 3D to develop a simple FPS mirroring key campaigns of the Biafran war. or you could just use the Quake 3 Engine. This scales well on older hardware (ensuring many people can get in - Q3 engine games run well on Intel GMA 900 - 950 and even on Netbooks) and the ensuing furore over such a campaign will ensure many people buy into the game.

Who wouldn't want to frag a young OBJ in multiplayer?! grin

o! you want me to start playing sokudo? and the rest trash. nah, not me and the loads of hardcore gammers we got in this nation
Don't be all about graphics and glitz. Sometimes gameplay wins over visuals. I've had more fun playing Advance Wars on the Game Boy Advance than playing some of the crapware 3d games shovelled at us.

vowiski:
gta4 is not even the most expensive game made. so stop theose things about price.
Expensive doesn't always mean 'good' or 'successful'. Shenmue cost almost 100 million dollars to make and sold only about 1.2 million copies.

vowiski:
can they think? go and ask Hideo Kojima (mgs creator and king of gaming, with tons of award), he will tell stuff about gaming.
it's not BEANS!
Hideo Kojima is not the only succesful game developer in the world. and even he can make flawed games (i.e ZOne of the Enders - PS2). There are many devs that make stunning games with only a fraction of the manpower and resources available to him.
Games do not always have to have convoluted (and sometimes confusing) storylines (looking at you, MGS) to be stunning.

vowiski:

Jakumo:
Iyabo Obasanjo stole the entire budget entrusted to her for the rehabilitation of state hospitals during her recent tenure as a health commissioner, and because she got away that crime in the same way her kleptocrat ex-president father stole with impunity Nigeria's entire federal electricity generation budget of 16 billion US dollars, this revolting hippopotamus simply cannot find the decency to shut her festering orifice and concentrate on spending her stolen loot, but rather chooses to celebrate her sublime ugliness of mind and body in full public glare at every opportunity.

If somebody is in fact preparing to silence this fat phuck as "she" alleges, then that is good news and a damn good start, indicating that the laws of divine retribution can be applied retroactively in deserving cases such as this one.

What's it with this iphone users and nokia . . . . do you guys have an inbuilt hatred 4 nokia phones. . ,
I haven't seen anywhere in this post where someone has displayed an 'inbuilt hatred for nokia phones'. I've used a 6600, 6630 and an Ngage. I loved them then, but it's been more of the same from Nokia even with the Nseries.

thegame:
i think i got an answer. those iphone users are just not so bright to understand iphone can't compete with an average n series phone.
The iPhone in the right hands is way better than the average N-series phone. At least i have both an iPhone and an N95 and i can see the difference. Of course it doesn't help that there's very little difference between all the N-series phones if you really think about it.
easy on the 'not so bright' part.

thegame:
i gotta give them the props for the memory though but frankly, how much memory do u even fill up? even if u manage to fill everything up, how many songs do u think u will listen to before the battery runs out. same applies to videos(this even kills battery faster)
let's wake up and just not give these phone makers unnecessary reasons to rip us off
i have a 16GB iphone, currently with only 1.5 Gb free. And that's just because i'm not that much of an audiophile. The iPhone can play 23 hours of music non-stop, and 5 hours of video. Please don't use the crappy battery life of the N95 as a benchmark here.
Since when did providing ample storage space and music and video playback become a 'rip-off'?
