What's with Nigerians and their love for generic brand names? I've seen someone i know buy an inferior specced HP laptop over a more powerful Toshiba rig simply because someone told him that 'HP was the best'. NEVER compare 'Sony' vs 'HP' or 'Dell vs Toshiba'. Compare Sony VAIO ARxx laptop with Dell Inspiron 15xx. All laptop manufacturers make crappy laptops as well as high end beasts, so always check up on the model in question first. Had a colleague arguing with me that 'Sony Bravia LCDs are the best in the market'. You can't compare a top of the range Bravia to a budget Samsung, just as you cannot compare a top tier Samsung/Sharp TV to a mid-level Bravia HDTV. |
@luka1981 Here's my candid advice; when you're in a hole, stop digging! Three posts after my last one and all you've succeeded in doing is making yourself look more silly. |
luka1981:There was no 'illegal promotion' there! You betray your level of thinking everytime you make this statement. Both of them were DIGs, both were of the same rank. luka1981:You must be a source of embarrasment to the pro-Ribadu brigade since you don't know that many other police men were demoted at the same time Ribadu was. Even Haz Iwendi was demoted even when he was very dead ![]() |
Did someone say Sanctions caused the Cholera in Zimbabwe? Not dirty water and poor sewage? How did sanctions aimed at Zimbabwe's ruling elite cause massive inflation, poor harvests and now Cholera? Weird! |
One thought came to the fore in my mind. We are all here talking about Ribadu's fight against corruption, and talking about how his decline is a bad sign for the 'younger generation'. I wonder how many people here realise that corruption has already eaten deep into the fabric of this nation and that the younger generation are already more compromised by corruption than we know. We all ought to be in the vanguard of the fight against corruption, no matter what our stance on Ribadu may be. There's something wrong in people heaping so much praise on Ribadu when they have made no move themselves to counsel that Yahoo boy in the neighbourhood, to turn away in disgust from that fellow who's been skimming money from the office till, to roundly abuse the market woman that tries to adjust her scales when she sells meat, to report that fellow that sells fuel in Port Harcourt for N85 per litre to the DPR. . . But we don't do this. We foolishly imagine that corruption in Nigeria is the exclusive province of the political elite, forgetting that it's the actions of the greedy school bursar, the roguish policemen on the roadside, the guy who tweaks his meter so he sells far less Kerosene that you paid for that affects the common man more. Such people will fall under the Radar of whatever EFCC boss there is. If we want to free Nigeria from corruption, stop looking to the Heavens and get out there and do something! Just my 2 cents |
Capone:Double promotion is only done on merit. The Nigerian police force has a strict, laid down career progression path. The PSC is the body in charge of the career movement of officers and they say promotion twice within four months is a serious and unfair anomaly. By all means, Ribadu should get a National honour (heard one was indeed in the offing) but not an unfair and unmerited promotion. IF he had taken the demotion with dignity, would that have killed him? Or perhaps even resign with honour as Dele Sobowale of the Vanguard Newspapers urged him to do. If every Nigerian posting in support of Ribadu was actually Honest and incorruptible, Nigeria would have been a better place indeed. |
jejelolatu:SOme of us want to make sure that we are not unknowingly siding with corruption if we stand with Ribadu. All i'm saying is, let's dig deep into this matter. Many Abuja residents placed a similar Halo on El Rufai's head until the reports of corrruption became deafening. My saints do not have giant flaws. I've never said Ribadu was guilty. All i've said is his behaviour is exceedingly odd for an innocent man and hence i look at him with suspicion. He has to clear his name through direct battle, not by using newspapers and nairalanders as proxies. PErhaps the message it sends to Nigerians is to run away from travails, even when you are right. And please, enough with the Abiola comparisons. This is a democracy. |
Sometimes the way NIgerians reason baffles me. There's the mikeansy chap that goes around claiming that the only people critical of RIbadu are Yahoo boys. Look, there's a difference between jubilating at someone's downfall and being critical of someone's conduct. I have been one of the most strident anti-corruption and anti-Yahoo members of Nairaland since it's inception so i take extreme offense at the accusation this retard mikeansy is spouting. My argument is clear. Ribadu has handled this matter badly. We always heard that a man of clear conscience fears no accusation, that an innocent man should fight to clear his name. But when i see a police officer with years of experience taking the battle to the pages of Nigerian newspapers only, then i wonder how clear the innocence is. And just for the record, there's no indication that it the was the Police behind any purported assassination attempt, so the idea of him not reporting the issue to the Police, even if it is to elements sympathetic to his cause is quite funny. NAturally people failed to answer my question, No one is willing to bet his life that Ribadu is entirely clean contrary to the allegations made against him. So if you harbor any iota of doubt why defend him roundly? Oh, i forgot. This is Nigeria. Corruption is accepted as long as you do a managable job i.e Marwa of Lagos. Mr Pataki, i'm not 'idiotic' as you put it. i'm merely cynical as most Nigerians are. Nigeria made me that way, i'm afraid. |
One more thing Ribadu announced to the world in the national newspapers of Nigeria that he had been an assassination target. Yet not one of you loyalists found it strange that the man did not make a report to the police on the matter. In fact, the first the police heard about it was in the Nigerian dailies. Naturally, he also failed to provide photos of the bullet scarred vehicle he was in when the purported attempt on his life was made http://www.saharareporters.com/www/report/detail/?id=651 The bullets which shattered the back seat side windshield and the rear windshield however missed the target: Ribadu. Efforts to get details of the attack did not yield much result as sources close to the embattled police officer hinted that letting out a vivid description of the attack may end up glorifying the plotters. The part i highlighted in bold is the most convenient piece of bullcrap ever. I'm going to take names of y'all who insist the guy is a saint and I will enjoy watching your reactions as the skeletons in his closet are exposed. |
This has degenerated into a farce Here's a question i want everyone to answer If a Genie appears here and asks you if you can bet your life that Ribadu is innocent of all the charges of corruption brought against him, what would you answer? Because the way some people here are defending the man stridently, you'd think they had access to God's files in Heaven detailing Ribadu's innocence of every charge of corruption. |
Seun:It's the Quake 3 demo coded to work with the iPhone. FOr obvious reasons the normal version won't work. For what it's worth, the demo (and the Quake 3 engine) are free. None of the retail files are in the links provided. |
luka1981:There are no preset ranks or career paths in Politics. The only qualifications needed are age and educational history as spelt out in the Nigerian constitution. Anyone with a brain knows this. Exactly how old are you? |
When Gani and Chinua Achebe were offfered awards, they turned it down. That was the noble thing to do as far as they were concerned, and Nigerians hailed them for it. Ribadu was offered unmerited promotion and he accepted it. So far so good. When it comes to returning to merit he started rebelling. I weep for my fellow Nigerians, a country of people so used to poor standards that they trumpet it out when someone simply does his job. Ribadu was hired to lead an anti-corruption agency. That was simply the job he was to do and to all intent an purposes he was empowered enough to do a decent job. So what else did he do to merit the double promotion he received? Ribadu was demoted along with almost 100 police officers. How many of them have headed to the law courts? Look, the man is a police officer. As such he is subordinate to the IG of the Police. He was redeployed to Benin and was expected to resume in late November. Where does the issue of 'studies' come in? Right or wrong, he has absconded his post/duty as a police officer and as such there's every reason to dismiss him from the force. PS: I know the kind of replies i'm likely to get. But ask yourselves one question: can you bet your life that RIbadu isn't guilty of some form of corrupt practices while in office? |
GettysBurg:You might as well say, 'Many Nigerian workers are doing nothing in the ministries. Therefore the Federal Government should reduce salaries in Nigeria and use the money for other things' It's wrong to generalize. These 'inefficient, wasteful tokunbo vehicles' serve a critical purpose of conveying people from one point to another. How many Nigerians can afford modern, fuel efficient vehicles? GettysBurg:How many middle class families do you know with vehicles for every member of the family? Please tell. |
favored09:I will rather use the time to pray for you that you may find more serious minded pursuits to occupy you. I mean, WTF?! |
Frizy:Instead of the noble Osama bin Laden, eh? |
ramonmulti:I understand you need to make a profit, but that's way too greedy! And there's nothing like a 'chipped' PSP in the Nigerian market. |
yemmyse:Nairaland rules clearly state that English is the only accepted language. How do you think this place will be if every person starts opening posts in his own language? Hausa, Efik, Ikwerre etc. Stop posting proverbs when YOU lack the wisdom needed. |
SOme people tread the path of blasphemy when they subconsciously equate 'men of God' with God Himself. @yemmyse Who told you that criticizing Adeboye is a sure path to Hell Fire? never mind, i'm sure he told you himself Funny how these guys who keep spouting the 'touch not the Lord's anointed' line were conspicously silent when Rev. King was being tried and convicted for murder. I guess it helps to be a 'Man of God' with a very large church, eh? |
In my opinion, El Rufai has something to hide. An innocent man will always try to clear his name, all these posturing on pages of newspapers do not serve him well. |
SeanT21:And with that statement you show yourself to be an even bigger fool. This topic has been discussed before. As far as i'm concerned, boys will be boys. let him be. Target the president and live his family alone! |
rock101:You can fix this problem by adjusting (usually increasing) the sensitivity of your touchscreen. Since you're pretty tech savvy yourself, follow this link http://limitededitioniphone.com/iphone-touchscreen-fix-increase-sensitivity/ the files are for firmware 1.1.x, but they also work on 2.x firmware as stated in the comments. As Inferis said, it's a hardware issue, so no need doing the itunes restore thingy again. |
There is this thinking amongst Nigerians living abroad, that Nigeria is so bad that they could have been nothing if they havent travelled abroad. Is this a true saying? Is it true that only children of the rich and well connected make it in Nigeria? Based on the above, is it then advisable - in this year 2008 - 2009 for people to still sell their belongings for the sake of travelling abroad? Is it true that you can only make it abroad?
i'm yet to see anyone in Nairaland make this statement. There are thousands of Nigerian professionals who travelled overseas to work without 'selling their entire belongings'. Funny enough, you're too silly to remember that most of our eminent educators and professors received comprehensive foreign education. To an extent, to be respectable in many critical fields you need people who have travelled overseas for further education. If we need to make progress in this country in Space and aero technology, nuclear physics and computer technology you NEED people who struggled to go overseas for studies. The same people halfwit Nigerians sneer at. Some people are in the UK, US and the rest of Europe reading advanced petroleum Engineering, Nuclea physics and advanced telecomms. These same people can not get the same quality of education in Nigeria and may have to work their butt off in Macdonalds and clean up in restaurants just to complete their school fees. So the next time you feel the need for another idiotic rant, curb your tongue. |
For MTN Settings > General >Network > Cellular Data Settings APN: web.grps.mtnnigeria.net user:web password: web always worked for me |
Apple have made it impossible for me to continue using 2.1 firmware. SO many new Appstore apps just aren't compatible with 2.1 right now, only work with 2.2. I didn't want to lose all my cydia apps just for Street View i'd never use and several vague 'performance fixes' etc. Still reading into Aptbackup to see if it works as promised. |
@Inferis Haba! don't scare him away na! You know if the guy go give me money? I need bailout package ASAP, this trip cost the earth, and the worst thing is that i've started making plans to send for more cash from Naija after i stupidly blundered into a huge gadget shop over here. lol @Cabali U tell your friend that i'm less impressive in real life. Then again, aren't we all? ![]() |
There is no sensible reason for Nigerians at home to beef NIgerians in diaspora. Except, of course, for jealousy. Which is why i take game_rod's claims of satisfaction and self-actualization in Nigeria as little more than lies. I live and work in Nigeria, but once in a while i travel overseas on holidays to satisfy my travel lust ( i can see the Eiffel tower outside my window right now ) and for me this model remains satisfactory. However there are many professionals who have chosen to settle oerseas and they are just as happy as myself. Nay, even more happy than myself in most cases! They do not have to work through the silly challenges i face daily. They do not feel the subconscious anger i feel when i look at my situation; paying huge taxes yearly yet get electrical power for an average of 30 minutes a day. Or cringe when they drive to work as their beloved vehicle suffers at the hands of a myriad of potholes in the road. The financial crisis is now global, so i fail to see any great influx of returnee Nigerians rushing back home. PS: I re-iterate. It's puzzling why some Nigerians back home have so much beef for their counterparts in diaspora. |
I thought all of you guys here were Nigerians. Because every Nigerian knows that government sabi price well well. If you start from N15k, they will only settle for \n5k. Start from an unreasonable amount in the hope that Government will beat it down to a reasonable amount. That said, N52k is extremely unreasonable ![]() |
lol, as if being the noisiest fanboy = the best. If that was true, Nintendo wouldn't have made that crappy wii. i mean, it's true they are selling like hotcakes but the sub par graphics have alienated many of their most vocal fans, including myself. I am now reduced to begging piteously for people to play wii sports with me. ![]() The Nokia 5800 is about hitting lagos. Expect more challenge from Nokia fanboys who'll now be suddenly in love with touchscreen phones ![]() |
archbishop:your thought process troubles me. How is this of any importance? |
