joichi:The Guy's dragging you back. Dump him ASAP. I have a friend who was in this kind of situation. . .her bf was not so much of a leech, but extremely uncomfortable with the fact that she was working and he wasn't, and he was scared stiff about her buying a car. . .probably thought it would show upo the earning gap. Move off and find someone new while you're still young enough to do so ![]() |
pc guru:I use an iPhone, and while i can say that the hype may have gone overboard once in a while, in the right hands the iPhone can be a far better deal than the N95. Coming from someone who's used an Ngage, a 6600 and a 6630, i'm tired of the standard Nokia Symbian OS. Resistance to change is what keeps Nigerians glued to their Nokia devices. And most certainly Apple can focus on their one and only handheld, while Nokia keeps churning out new devices. Now the N96 is out, the N95 is yesterday's news to the people at Nokia. But this is a games forum. Let the games do the talking! and as far as gaming is concerned, the iPhone's Appstore has the N95 Ngage store beat hands down. Find someone who really knows how to get the best of their iPhone and start talking. pc guru:The iPhone has a far better music player. It's in fact the best iPod ever made. Bigger screen = bigger viewing pleasure. 24 hours of audio, 5 hours of Video. They don't come better than that. Internet browsing - the iPhone's web browser is FAR FAR FAR better than the crapware on the N95. It's even vastly superior to any other alternative on the platform, including OPera Mobile. As an ipod user, i appreciate the fact that i have an all-in-one device, and when i travel and am at the airports, i appreciate the browsing experience! |
@kiwi992 I struggle to understand where you're coming from. He has been allowed to express his views, and in the same vein people are allowed to reply with their own viewpoints, especially in a case where people feel outraged. The outrage stems from the fact that many (including myself) see his attitude as one that is extremely negative. No one should expect a job to fall from the skies just because you come from a particular region. In many cases getting a job in Nigeria is dependent on some measure of luck. He claims he has a 2.1, in my set (elect/elect engineering) graduating student with a first class (GPA OF 4. had to work in Zenith Bank for 2 years! As ow11 says, the oil companies he mentions are there for profit, and as such they strive to hire people based on merit. It may be his frustration talking, but i have a low opinion of this fellow just based on his initial post alone. Lying to himself will not help matters. It's an open secret now that oil companies now do more to hire people from the ND region. For example, it's an open secret now that Shell Nigeria has a quota for ND students in it's SITP program. Other oil companies have come to adopt such policies in recent times. As Nigerians we should strive to be as thoroughly detribalised as possible. Shame you cannot see the Irony in a fellow whining about tribalism labelling me as an 'aboki' simply because i did not agree with him. While you're at it, ask why an Elect/Elect graduate will focus his attentions solely on the Oil and Gas industry. What about PHCN? Or manufacturing firms? And if need be, what about banks? |
You are a truly pathetic human being, if you believe all the crap you posted. Many Niger Deltans work in the Multinational Oil companies, NNPC employs many people from the region too. It's obvious you're a low-end graduate. You may have been led to believe that you merit automatic employment immediately you graduate, but that's far from the truth. Since you believe so much in MEND, why not take your CV to them? Blaming others for your own misfortunes is the first step to taking out your frustrations on society. You'll fit right in. PS: If you're truly confident, post your CV here. You may edit the name if it makes you feel better |
samir101ng:Since your iPhone 3g will be nigh useless in Nigeria (until the unlock comes out), it may be worth your while to get the iPod Touch, especially if u have no other phone. Or you can even grab the first gen iphone. Most iPhone apps work on the iPod touch, except for those few that use GPS or the Microphone input. 10 points?! lol |
Ex Inferis:did u use the Mobileinstallation for 2.1? There's a special one for 2.1, you can grab it off xsellize.com or do a search. EDIT: here's the link http://www.sendspace.com/file/pcrxy6 |
Couldn't resist posting about this- here's one app that can't be done on any other phone, and could be used to show off your iPhone's powers Xplane 9, a handy mobile flight simulator! Screenshots below https://fingergaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-026.png https://fingergaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-024.png https://fingergaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-025.png https://fingergaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-023.png Well, this may appeal mainly to flight sim freaks like me, but it still is fun controlling your plane. And it's just a 7MB download from the usual places. Future updates promise more planes, airports and even helicopters ![]() |
Jcoob:You need significant hardware overhead to emulate another machine. For example the SNES CPU runs at less than 11 Mhz, yet it takes a pentium 2 at least to emulate it. The N64 and PS1 CPUs run at less than 150Mhz (i think!) yet you need at least an entry level Pentium 3 of approx 800Mhz to emulate these machines. The PS2 runs at approx 300Mhz, yet a dual core processor is advised by the emulator team. Preferrably 2+ Ghz Dual Core CPUs, and even then there are still some issues. As we speak, the Xbox emulation scene is still in its infancy. SO even when we have PCs nowadays that can outperform the PS3 and Xbox 360, emulating them is a whole different ball game. With each generation of consoles, the system requirements needed for the emulation process increases dramatically. This is even more of a factor when the CPU powering the console is more exotic. That is why the Sega Saturn has been pretty difficult to emulate, and requires impressive system requirements, even though this was a console in the PS1 generation. The PS3 with it's CEll processor will be a massive challenge to emulate even in the next couple of years. The Xbox 360 will probably be marginally easier, but will still be extremely difficult, and require system specs exceeding the current generation of computer hardware for some years to come. PS: I've only given estimated for the CPU speeds of the older game consoles. Just in case someone was gonna call me out over that. |
@hancock you need to lemme know the steps you followed so i can see where u went wrong. Here are some things to consider 1. OSX is case sensitive. So 'Documents' and 'documents' are two different folders 2. Did you set the correct permissions? If you're using WinSCP, make sure you check the 'recursive' option below so all the contents of that folder have the same permissions 3. The IPA method is more elegant, it's what i use now. Did you overwrite the Mobileinstallation file witht he patched version? One more thing. For cracked apps to work, you need to install at least one legit appstore app. Download one of the free ones from the iTunes store and sync to your iphone and then try again. If you don't have an itunes store account (preferrably US), there's a guide in this thread on how to do it. recknass:Will mail it to you. |
All i see here is a bunch of whiners. If you come from overseas, then you have to serve your country. It's a patriotic act, and i support the refusal of empoloyment to people without the certificate. If you're overage, you can get an exemption certificate which allows you to work in Nigeria. I served in 2004, i went through hell. But then again in these dark days there should be some virtue in doing some good for your country. In some countries in the world, there is compulsoryy 1 year millitary service. This happens in countries even far more developed than Nigeria. You think NYSC sucks? Try one year in the Army. And God save you if your country is fighting a war at that moment. The NYSC scheme needs improvement, sure, but it should NEVER be scrapped! |
@kiwi992 Have the courage to admit that your initial statement was bollocks. You actually spent your entire time here advocating violence, contrary to your assertion. Now my question to MEND is, after the fighting dies down, will they somehow resurrect the innocent people killed in the fighting to enjoy the spoils? A community guard was reportedly killed yesterday in MEND's attack against the Alakiri flowstation. WHo knows if that guy's presence there was as a result of his community demanding that SHell must employ some indigenes. Now he is dead. I sincerely doubt that MEND has any plans for compensation. At least Hezbollah and Hamas dispense crucial social services, build hospitals and schools. The millions of dollars these 'freedom fighters' obtain from sales of their bunkered crude has so far not beenused for any productive purpose. Speaking of 'peace' and 'dialogue', it's painfully obvious now that MEND is far too volatile, far too trigger happy for their own good. NNPC MD tells the senate that they paid some millions of dollars to millitants for protection. MEND's response? They blow up a pipeline. JTF attacks bases of suspected criminals. MEND's response? Call off ceasefire! It's oK for MEND troops to ambush and kill soldiers without mercy, without warning, even in the midst of a ceasefire. Yet a few millitants are killed and suddenly it's an 'oil war'. |

ziontrain:OK, lemme rephrase what i have been saying all along. My point is that it is in extremely poor taste to play the 'all those criticizing are suffering from poverty' card. As long as we understand that people strive to get the best deal possible, we should easily see that that is what is at play here. For example, someone with a bank balance of N7 million cannot be said to be poor by any stretch in Nigeria. A family man with savings of N7million cannot afford to splash N6million on a vehicle. But that doesn't mean he's poor. If he thinks there's anyway to get this vehicle for N5 million, he may be tempted. In your initial post you woulkd have labelled this fictional fellow as being 'jealous' or 'poverty stricken' for daring to dispute the price. It's far easier and more civil to explain why exactly the $28000 on the toyota website cannot translate directly to Nigerian terms. Not only have you made him see the light, it's unlikely he willl raise this same objection for another seller. An honest question: If you remark to an attendant in Best Buy that a particular Samsung HDTV is more expensive than you were led to believe, and the guy tells you that you must be a pauper to say such a thing, would you be pleased? showbobo:Now, where did you get the idea that i was in the US? See what uninformed assumptions do to you? I grow weary of your childish games, little man. |
@hancock Create an adhoc wifi connection on your PC and connect your ipod touch through it. Also you can download iPhone PC suite (the latest version) or iFunbox. better still, follow this tutorial http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48459 to learn how to connect via Winscp without any Wifi. That's what i use. for appstore app downloads, grab them from themonkeysball.com or themobileapps.com. both sites have tutorials to show u how to install them. |
Anything with a data limit is a raw deal as far as i'm concerned. Why pay the premium for 3G access and still get capped with a measly 3GB limit? |
You could grab an iphone. . . if you're into smartphones, you might also want to wait until the Android phones start coming out. i expect big things from android. |
Infoseye:There is NO way. The ability to read this enhanced capacity Blu Ray disk is hardware based. The PS3 laser (and that in every bluray drive on the market now) is incapable of reading these discs, and that cannot be fixed by a software update.
. . . . .i hope future PS3s will be able to
yeah right. so what happens to the millions of PS3s already sold? 50GB is far more than enough for any game this generation. why fall victim to the gigabyte hype? |
i hope the combat system on the new final fantasy will not be turn-based. besides that, i think the only good feature of final fantasy is the stories. the gameplay is borin. there was soooooooo much hype surrounding Final fantasy, when i got FF7 on the ps i was really dissapointed. the game was no where near as good as what they said it was. it was just like vagrants story (anybody played that game?)
I'm sorry, but i'm gonna have to call you out on this one. FF7 has very little in common with Vagrant story. The only thing they have in common is turn based battling. Finito. And yes, i played Vagrant Story. FF7 still remains one of the best games ever made. Why would someone who dislikes turn based games review a turn based game? I hate Tomb Raider, but you'll never catchj me saying it isn't a good game. Shaz:um. . .the millions of people who own Xbox 360s? |
showbobo: ![]() I could care less about your 'esteem'. I do not crave the adulation of numbskulls. @ziontrain Understand my position. I have no interest in this vehicle, and i have not made any comment on whether it's a good deal or not. I've merely expressed my dismay with the way some of us think that anyone who criticises must have a serious flaw somewhere. I can assure you that even Bill Gates expects optimal value for money, so it's actually a great disservice to insinuate that those guys complaining about the price are doing so out of jealousy or poverty. You live in the USA where the consumer is king. It's considered common sense even in affluent homes to scour the internet for the best possible deals. There's no crime in questioning things. @web_master I apologize for cluttering up your thread. For what it's worth, i see nothing wrong with what YOU have done. Hope you sell the car here on NL. |
The PS3 will not be able to read that BluRay disc, my man. In fact, its capabilities end at that 50GB bluray disk. |
ogagusps3:Your Math and your logic is fatally flawed. When the Xbox 360 was released, there were huge sections of the gaming community that were waiting for the release of the PS3 before making their minds up. Using the sales data from the first 23 months of the 360 release to compare the first 23 months of the PS3 release is a bad step. Naturally, you fail to note that the PS3 is still one of the best Blu Ray players in terms of value, so millions of consumers have purchased PS3s simply as a Blu Ray player. As Sony takes a loss on each PS3 made, this class of buyers are unwanted by Sony. Naturally, you fail to note that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 last month in the US. And that was before MS slashed the prices of 360s, with the cheapest version comin gin at $199. Guess what effect that'd have on the 360 sales? |
@Showbobo showbobo:If you had any sense you'd re-read my post and see that i have no qualms with the price. Let market forces decide. What i find infuriating is your stupid assumption that anyone complaining about the price is just 'suffering from poverty'. Just like this other guy ziontrain:I admit to being. . .vexed with my fellow Nigerians when they display such flawed logic. Yes, vexed is a good word. ![]() It's a pity this thread is being derailed. . .but especially on this Autos section it seems that Nigerians have a morbid fear of criticism. Why? It's dumb to start playing the 'poverty' card when people strive for better deals. |
chidichris:Seconded! |
showbobo:Now this is quite moronic coming from you. There's no reason for your deduction. How do you know if he isn't financially more capable than yourself? It takes little or no effort to explain market forces and why (obviously) you cannot buy a $27k camry for that same figure in Nigeria. And it makes a better impression going forward. Yet you'd rather throw in a thoroughly inane comment. In other developed countries the consumer is king, because there is a culture of demanding premium value for money. Pity this is lost on so many Nigerians. @Poster Nice ride! And despite what you say, you're doing a good job of marketing your vehicle. |
Hey! What's with the sudden flurry of babe seeking in Port Harcourt these days? ![]() Guess we all have to pursue Happyness in our own way, huh? |
Didn't know this topic even existed. Nice! |
Why use the word 'dump'? He's a football coach. That is his current career path, not 'nigerian football coach'. He should actively seek any job that challenges him as it will only serve to improve his abilities. |
CGKing:Sorry to say, man, but he was right. Your initial answer was moronic. Speaking as someone who's know the dude for close to 8 years. . .he's hardly a 'small pikin'. Now go off and drink some Kool-aid. Overt hostility never helped anyone. |
faoni572:it's official: Nigerians have no sense of humour. Faoni, That WHOOSH! sound you just heard is the sound of a well written joke flying right above your head. |
Wanna know how it's clear that the OP is on to something when he says the big time pastors are beyond reproach, and idolized even? When there's anything said about the big time 'Men of God', we are sternly admonished not to criticize the men of God, so we do not invite tragedy on our heads. When the Reverend King saga was in full blow, i noticed no such restraint. In fact, many notable nairaland 'Christians' led the attack. Guess it helps to be a man of God with panache, eh? |
@joshjosh What manner of Christian are you, anyway? Gamine just said she has become disillusioned with some 'Men of God' in Nigeria, and she's decided to seek guidance from God's word. In other words, the Bible. She hasn't said she's renouncing her faith or no longer remaining a christian. yet you launch into a sermon of 'derailing'. are you now insinuating that the focus should not be on God, but on the heralded men of God? please answer This topic is interesting anyway. I find it funny that Christians in Nigeria cannot see how far they have failed. Were nigerian christians to give 1% of what they give out as tithes to charity, Nigeria would have been a much better place. at least Charity is mentioned far more times in the New Testament than tithing, yet these 'men of God' do not emphasize this nearly as much. Even people we claim to be 'evil' are often far more loving to their neighbour than us christians. If Angelina Jolie can donate thousands of Mosquito nets to african kids, yet all some of us holy people can tink about is how to contrinute to buy Pastor yet another jeep, then i don't see how there's hope. A prominent 'Man of God' is reported to have said that 'God told him that Nigeria will be the greatest country in the world'. How bloody holy is that? Chris Okotie told us all that God told him to run for President. yeah right. |
@davolas Celtel/Zain's 10k per Kb of data is probably the cheapest in the country at the moment. What's wrong with paying N5 for 50kb of data? I mean, it's five freaking Naira!! get a job and a life, man. |
