To avoid the Error 1604, no need to reboot or use a diff computer. make sure you put your phone in manual DFU before the custom restore

1. Swich off the phone. Make sure it's connected to your PC
2. With the phone off, hold power and Home button down for exactly 10 seconds
3. Take your hand off the power button, keeping the home button depressed. Hold on to the Home button until you hear the normal Windows USB beep. you know, the sound windows makes when it detects an USB device
4. As soon as you hear the sound, let go of the Home button

The phone will then be in DFU mode. It will show a totally blank (black) screen.

No errors will be experienced when installing the custom firmware cheesy

For once i agree with you on this one. Condition made these guys go overseas. It's worth noting that Nigeria has had no input into the success of these guys stay overseas. Why are we so keen to reap where we did not sow?

Naive comments are the rage here. I really don't think the Georgians had any hope or thought of American or western millitary aid. All they wanted to do was to put down the violent separatists in South Ossetia. Russia responded with force.

Only a naive Nigerian would imagine that NATO would airlift hundreds of thousands of troops into Georgia to fight a war. The Georgian president miscalculated and he's paid the price.

That said, the russians are clearly out of line here. All the Georgians have done is to mirror what Russia did in Chechnya in 1999. Nothing more. Apparently it is 'fighting terrorism' when fighting muslim chechens, but aggression when fighting South Ossetians.

This show of strength matters little in the long run. Georgia is a rather small country after all. The Russian nation has FAR less sway in Eastern Europe now than at the height of the cold war. It would be hard pressed to defeat a much larger and better armed ex-SovBloc country like Poland. And the world knows it.

By the way, it's funny how we excuse away Russia's excesses as a simple balance to the US. What this shows is that if tommorrow China invades Taiwan, you'll have landis, Blatant and the other other usual suspects will be crowing about enforcing millitary might.

of course, the token objections will be made. Emphasis on token.

South Ossetia is a semi-autonomous territory in Georgia. As such, it belongs 100% to georgia. Russia has since handed passports to The SO citizens, but that does not make them part of Russia.

If Sweden were to hand over passports to Lagosians (and we all know very well that 80% of Lagosians will jump at the offer), does that give them right to invade Lagos?

Georgia moved troops in to quell separatist violence. According to Georgia, artillery fire from SO killed 10 Georgians. That's grounds for armed action, especially as it was the same excuse Russians used for the invasion of Chechnya.

So here's the thing

You condemn the US for hypocrisy in attacking Iraq.

Yet you happily fail to notice the hypocrisy in Russia invading Georgia to ensure that the South Ossetians enjoy their right to secede. . .even when the same Russians brutally crushed the Chechens when they tried to break away.

There are similarities in both cases. South Ossetia hold vital resources for Georgia, and Chechnya holds vital hycrocarbon resources and access to the caucasus oilfields.

South Ossetia has been semi-autonomous for a while in Georgia, there was an existing peace deal and Georgia claimed they invaded as a result of seperatists in South Ossetia shelling Georgian cities with artillery fire.
Chechnya was semi-autonomous, there had been an existing peace treaty signed with the russians, and Russia claimed they invaded because of some 'terrorist attacks' in Moscow.

Seeing as both scenarios are very similar, why hesitate to proclaim the hypocrisy in the stance of the Russians? Were it to be the US, i'm sure your tongues would not be so impaired.

ASL33:
US invaded Iraq=Bad but you never believed it was bad.
Israel Invaded Lebanon =bad but US and her Muppet never condenmed them. What Bush said then was that Israel has every right to defend herself. You as well felt it was good.
Russia Invaded Georgia=Bad, US and others has no moral justification to condemn Russia since they did not condemn Israel and they master minded the first one.

If US and Israel did not take unilateral action against Iraq and Lebanon this Russia case might not have happened.
Good. But YOU have a moral right to condemn Russia. Have you done so?

ASL33:
If US and Israel did not take unilateral action against Iraq and Lebanon this Russia case might not have happened.
Chechnya happened long before the Iraq or the lebanon war. Go figure.

@landis
let's see your logic

US invaded Iraq in 2003 = bad.

Israel Invades lebanon = bad

Russia invades Georgia = good because it 'balances things out'

WTF?!

landis:
Russia strategy is to isolate Georgia and warn all other WESTERN puppert countries in that region that it would not tolerate any nonsense in their backyard.
and perhaps Israel invaded Lebanon to show that it would not tolerate 'nonsense in their backyard'. Isn't that what your logic indicates?

Foreign Affairs › Georgia Vs Russia: Why The Apathy On Nairaland?! by texazzpete(op): 7:34am On Aug 12, 2008
For some days now Russian troops and Georgian forces have been engaged in a pitched battle. There are reports of thousands of civillian casualties, with the South Ossetian capital razed to the ground.

As we speak, Russian forces have overstepped the limits of their 'peacekeeping operation', and are already engaged in an invasion of Georgian territory.

It has been several days, but there's no hint of this on the Politics section.

Have you ever been to the oil producing regions to see how desolated it looks. Well, I can boldly tell you to go take a look at those areas and you will know why the people are fighting. The rivers and farm lands are being polluted. No good drinking water or educational structures for the children from those regions.Yet the nation's wealth comes from these rivers of black gold.
The stories about the 'oil producing areas are all polluted' is nothing more than a myth. yes, there are areas that are polluted, but there are many, many more where people in the environs go about their daily business.

If you need a good, unbiased opinion, look no further than the HOD of political science Dept in a university in Bayelsa (forgotten which one). He stated that while the Oil Coys are not doing 100%, they are actually trying far more than the local Governments in the ND. And he just happens to be an Ijaw man.

When the people stubbornly refuse to take their Local and State Governments to task over development, then you wonder what they are fighting for. You mentioned drinking water and educational structures. What then is the function of a Local Govt if it cannot build schools or sink boreholes?

But we Nigerians have allowed ourselves into thinking that it is the role of tax paying multinationals to build all schools and roads. That's why the elected leaders in the area can embezzle with impunity.

Millitants have brought violence to the region. let those who sow the wind reap the whirlwind. There must be no amnesty for millitants. 50% derivation, i support completely.

Even when we were kids, we knew that Europeans were susceptible to localized African diseases. And vice versa. What part of that elementary education did you guys miss?

The Nigerian guy talking about Rooney not staying in Nigeria for more than 24 hours should return his degree ASAP. it takes only 30 seconds for a mosquito to bite you and transfer the malaria parasite. Perhaps in his village Mosquitoes bite in and hang on for 2 days before you can get the disease abi?

I look back at the days when paranoia and inferiority complex was not so rife on Nairaland.

What's wrong with:
"I read Sir Alex Ferguson's comment in the Paper. I'm confident he could not have picked up the virus here in Nigeria because he was indoors for most of his stay here, and we do not have that many mosquitoes in Abuja this time of the year. We won't know unless United shares the doctor's report with us, but we are satisfied with the way the tour went, and SAF must have been too going by his positive comments after the tour. nevertheless, our thoughts and prayers go out to the ill manchester united player"

That's so much better and cultured than his whine " Lie lie kill them!! Boo!!! they just want to yab Nigeria"

PS: The manchester united squad also reportedly flew to port Harcourt where they were hosted by the governor. So much for 'only 24 hours'

Harry was roundly condemned for his Nazi outfit which BTW was not on the same level as this because that was a costume party; not a child being groomed to glorify the wrong things.

It is a sign of the kind of things which the child is being brought up with by his parents. Even if it is childhood misdemeanour, it must still be roundle condemned in order not to encourage the wrong type of behaviour by sending wrong signals. This is the reason Nigeria has turned out the way it has. we keep condoning and explaining things away.
Negro, did you just allege that dressing up as a Nazi was better than this? Even when you know that the Nazi image represented an enemy to the British empire, an enemy that plunged the world into a war that cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of britons, a group that authorized the deaths of millions of minorities?
many britons still living today fought against the swastika, and to see their prince casually wear the symbol of what they fought against, what they died for, that seemed like a great betrayal.

Yet you say this is nothing compared to a 12 year old playing dress-up, acting like his favourite rappers on TV. Can you not see how stupid you sound?

i've lost patience with you jealous people. How Yar'Adua runs his family is none of your business. You do not even know for sure if there will be a Nigeria when he grows up. Any kid out there could be our future leader. Was Samuel Doe born into a rich family?
If you're so concerned with the quality of our future leadership, you and landis should form an NGO to stop roadside selling and street marketing by kids. You should seek a ban for anything that glorifies violence and money, including most of our Nollywood movies.

419 guys photograph themselves holding US dollars, not naira. They are young enough to be the future hope of this country. What have you done to combat this menace?

Career › Re: Access Bank Forces Staff To Take Cars by texazzpete(m): 6:02pm On Aug 07, 2008
lawless:
My people, this whole thing with Access Bank is not a joke at all. I however think we are not looking at the flip side of it.
Yes, the bank makes it difficult for ETs to leave them before the expiration of two years and the cars are compulsory, but If I were the MD of the coy, I would probably do the same. Imagine spending a whole lot to train your staff for upwards of 4 months only to have them snatched up by other banks. The way I see it, there is some form of job security here because before the bank thinks of laying off any staff, they will ask themselves how the staff is going to pay off all monies owed.
Besides, who says you cannot sell the car and pay off imediately or purchase the car of your choice. I see a whole lot of possibilities here and i say those dudes are lucky.
Thinking like this is what makes Nigeria go backwards. You retain your staff by ensuring that conditions of service are good, befitting and conducive. No one signs contracts like these in the Oil and Gas industry, and as far as i know in the Telecoms industry. This happens only in companies that are hell bent on milking their staff for any value.
While you're at it, why don't you also prevent your female staff from getting pregnant for 3 years. afterall, isn't your goal to force the staff to work the amount you spent training them?

No one is supposed to make a choice for you as to which vehicle you buy. Your answers are simplistic at best. if it was that easy to sell Ford Focus vehicles, why is coscharis embarking on this venture? What's the guarantee that you'll find a buyer at the agreeable market price? it's far more likely that the market will be flooded with staff hoping to sell, driving down the asking price further.
Also since this is a payment-over-time deal, it's actually possible they'll get this for marginally above the market value.

Truth is, we constantly lambast our leaders for being mean, but even amongst us, we can clearly see that there are many who are no better.

its N1000 notes he's playing with, 10 N1,000 notes is equal to N10,000. the money seems in the region of N250,000 upwards to me.
the bottom line is that, from that picture, the parents are encouragin extravagance. at such an age, what is he doing with that amount of money, even if his father is the president? it shows that the family is not prudent.
No. From that photo it's impossible to say what his parents are 'encouraging'. I sincerely doubt the photos were taken by his parents, anyhow.

It may not even be his money. It's impossible to say. However it's clear his sins are merely one that affects hundreds of thousands of Nigerian kids; a desire to imitate the lives of rappers and hip hop 'gangsters'.

By this same standard we should go all out heckling all kids that go round with Tupac or biggie T-shirts.

A kid sees 50 cent posing with a gun. he begs his guard to let him hold the gun briefly. The Guard (who knows very well that this young kid can easily get him fired) lets him hold it briefly. Naturally, he removes the magazine, handing over an essentially harmless weapon to the kid. Someone snaps the photo

The Kid sees 50 cent dressed up in bling. He badgers his minders (who have been entrusted with a large budget) to get him some funky cloths, complete with bling. he snaps a photo with it.

The kid sees 50 cent, Eminem, P. Diddy et al holding up wads of cash. He gets photographed holding cash to be more like his heroes.

So what the hell is the big deal with this stuff? He is young enough to hold these people as his heroes, and he's doing nothing illegal. Unless you people can show me anywhere it is illegal to be photographed holding money, what's your issue?

We should be lamenting the rot and decay in our society when youngsters growing up cannot see any modern day hero, when the money driven morals of the day is the only one youngsters experience. Why?

Perhaps when you were 12 years old, you were a perfect hero, a shining example of youth. but not everyone is a paragon of perfection like yourself. So get off your high horse and stop being so self-righteous.
