@texas you do have a choice you know. I mean, it's not like google held a gun to your head
Re-read what i wrote until comprehension sinks in.I never said i will not use Google Chrome, or that i will ever feel forced to use it. I expressed concern that if Google manages to obtain a monopoly in the long run in the Browser wars, it could then lead to an online monopoly by Google. There are valid concerns expressed by people at just how far ad companies go to obtain personalised info to push specific ads at consumers. Al i'm expressing now is vague apprehension. it may be just worrying over nothing. But i never said anything against the browser itself. |
dan smith:99.9% of Nigerians that have agonized over this decision have dwelt mainly on the Graphics as the deciding factor. Nigerians often pick graphics over gameplay. Thanks to the marketing hype and propaganda from Sony, many people erroneously believe the PS3 to be superior to the 360 in that regard. Whenever i give advice, i make sure i stress that there is little or no difference in GFX quality of the two consoles. So yes, it helps. Load times aren't an issue on the 360 even with no HDD caching. Word has it that its the slowness of the BluRay drive itself that HDD cahing mandatory for most current PS3 games. Certainly games like HAlo 3 on the 360 that stream from the disc are still seamless with little or no load times visible. the Ps3 will accept a SATA 2.5 inch drive, so you can upgrade. USB drives will not work. But that's at an extra cost, isn't it? |
Am i the only one that's apprehensive about this? I mean, it's a great browser and all, but it seems like we're going to be replacing one monopoly with another. I grow increasingly uneasy at Google's aim of monitoring our every move to push ads to us. Don't get me wrong, it's a great move on Google's part. . .but we should watch out for the catch somewhere down the line. |
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=202449 Eurogamer has another article comparing the PS3 and the Xbox 360 graphical performane in cross-platform games. Quick summary: identical performance, with the Xbox 360 having a very small lead. Another serious thing to consider - Much has been made of the Ps3's Bluray disc for games. but a downside is that most games today have to have some part installed to the HDD to speed up loading times. It may seem like a small issue, but too many games can fill up your HDD. For example Bourne Conspiracy for PS3 installs 4.6GB of data. Top Spin 3 installs 3.5gb of data into the HDD. MGS4 and Devil May Cry 4 also rely on lengthy and weighty installs to get running. From my experience, i know GTA4 also falls in that class. So it may make sense to get a larger capacity HDD PS3, especially if you've got many games. |
x Jayson x:Not very sensible to base his decision on one fanboy's video. Gamespot has PS3 and Xbox 360 undistinguishable in the graphics department. It all boils down the games and the price. PS: Why does everyone keep nattering on and on about MGS4? It's only ONE game. A game console should be bought to last you for several years of gaming. When you finish MGS4, what happens? Talk about the whole nine yards. The upcoming games, the extra features etc. No one game can justify buying a $500 console. |
Guys, It is a very good tin to be current in all aspects. especially games sections, at least for fun. The reason i made this post is to tell u guys that the xpected has been made. Playstation 3 emulator is out. it is left for us to test. i have not downloaded it yet but i will now. u guys shuld just google it and you will see 4 your self. if i have downloaded it, i will repost the links to you guys cheers@!!!
None but a terminally dumb person would expect the PS3 to be emulated on the current crop of hardware. The sheer folly of imagining a 3.2Ghz Cell processor system to be emulated on an 2.x Ghz x86 processor is frankly mind boggling. By all means, test your downloaded file. When it turns out to be some form of malware, at least you can rest assured that there exists some divine retribution for being so daft. I can do so many things. But i cannot fix stupid. |
I'm not too keen on being called out for 'spoiling someone's business'. But in all honesty i'd like to point out to potential buyers that this device is being sold in computer village for N1900. Profit is fair and good, but N3000 on top seems just a tad bit. . .much for my taste. Consumer rights FTW!! |
@Naija1 800.000 barrels of oil per day from Ondo state alone?! Are you on crack?! |
iykedee:Switch MGS4 for GTA4? |
recknass:moot point now. . .he's on 2.0 firmware now and doesn't need/use the PC suite anymore. There's PC suite for 2.0 now, but last i heard the menus are still in chinese. |
I use an NTSC Ps3 and have always used my PS3 with a step down. One day i stepped out and came back to find my neighbours had been using my PS3 connected directly to the mains for 3 hours without any issue. I take this to mean the Ps3 power brick can handle all voltages. . .but i haven't seen the actual voltage range written down on any manual, so i still use the step down just in case. i once mistakenly connected my 360 directly to power, i heard a fizzing sound. Those of you who have blown the power panel on the Playstation 1 will know what i mean, the sound of that big capacitor getting ready to pop. I quickly switched off the 360. Still works, though. I guess i switched it off just in time. To be safe, i went out and got a 240V power brick for the 360, so no need for step down anymore. . . |
What other games do you have on PS3? My GTA4 is still gathering dust. . .and i have Devil May Cry 4 already |
ogagusps3:30%? i doubt it. Anyway, the failure rate has reduced significantly with newer models, but it's wide to be wary on that score. Also, PS3 games are region free. |
A2J:For those genres you mentioned, all those games will be offered on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Witht he exception of SOCOM, which is a Sony exclusive. The PS3 is an excellent Blu Ray player. And that's reflected in the price too. Good luck trying to find a Ps3 for 35k in Lagos. @dan smith You buy PS3 games for 12K? Why? |
Jakumo:When you make statements like this, please note that the word 'tapped' entails 1. An investment of tens of billions of dollars, shared by the oil companies and the federal government. 2. A commitment to peace by the hostile communities of the Niger Delta to enable the neccessary construction waork to take place 3. A commitment by Nigerians - the federal, state and local governments to lay gas mains so natural gas can be piped to houses for cooking. Ordinary Nigerians will neccessarily have to retrofit their existing cookers to run with natural gas. Even with these, local consumption alone will not take all the gas. So the Nigerian government needs to set aside billions of dollars to build a few more gas plants. The only sure way to stop gas flaring RIGHT NOW is to shut in all the oil wells that are producing gas. Which is pretty much every oil field that does not have expensive gas gathering and compression stations. This probably means closing in at least 3/4 of Nigeria's oil production. As we all know, oil acounts for 90% + of our income. So with only 1/4 of our current production, what would happen to our economy? Here's a thought. Gather all the biggest activists, all the fat cats in Abuja and Lagos. Ask them a simple question: "Would you be willing to take an 80% cut in your salaries/income so we can stop flaring gas this instant?" |
The same MEND that stood idly by while Soboma George's cultists kill innocent civillians in Rivers State? The same MEND that popularized kidnapping can come out to pontificate? The same MEND that babble on about people stealing Ijaw resources, yet lamely offer that 'big men in Abuja' are the ones behind oil bunkering? Gimme a break! |
I've seen this before. It's a pity we are so eager to choke down untruths. It's pretty daft for people not to ask a very basic question: Gas is expensive, so why will the oil companies deliberately flare gas if they can make some extra money from it? Nigerians are not willing to pay the cost of ending gas flaring. That is the problem. |
Since you're so generous in your opinions to people looting, and you can excuse theft because of the prevailing economic conditionin Nigeria, i hope you're equally happy to welcome armed robbers into your home? Nigerians tend to be generous with things that aren't theirs. |
Lest i forget. . . [flash=425,344] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEcQ98xnImU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed>[/flash] This song is currently hot in Nigeria. Maga don pay, eh? This song actually has a special significance. it was the trigger that brought the realization that it would be a long long time before Nigeria ever becomes a decent, corruption free nation. I mean, i could forgive yar'adua being entertained by yahoozee, but this?! At that moment i knew that all those with the 'Nigeria will soon be the greatest country on earth' line (pastor Adeboye, how could you?!) were in dreamland. BigB1, if you can watch that video, imagine it playing on fox news and still insist that our negative perception comes from unreasonable westerners, then i have nothing to say to you. |
oh crap Reuben Abati's words were the parts in italics. All the rest were mine. . . Big B1:BigB1 i'm afraid you are the one that does not get it. You see, over 80% of Americans and canadians know what 'Nigerian email' meant. Articles about Nigerian scam emails can even be found as far back as 2004, in editions of 'Readers Digest'. On online forums, i've heard the same slang used. Obama only said what millions of people the world over already know; there's a large crown of celebrated scammers in Nigeria. Negative impressions come from Negative deeds. what you're insisting on is that tens of thousands can continue doing their negative acts, yet no one may form negative impressions about Nigerian emails, eh? If we assume a conservative figure of 50000 email scammers in Nigeria, and if each one sends 500 emails daily, you wanna do the math? Why should i care if a comment is televised online? What have you caring nigerian done to curb the menace of 419 in this country? Whenever 419 comes up for discussion on Nairaland, don't the people in support of 419ers always outnumber the 'honest Nigerians'? I ask you, which is more critical of Nigeria - Obama's comment or the fact that 'I go chop Your dollar' and 'Yahoozee' became mega hits in Nigeria? Have you tried checking the Youtube streams of either of those two songs, and looking at the comments left by Nigerians (hint: praising scam) and westerners (hint: getting the idea that Nigerians are overwhelmingly in support of thievery)? Nkem Owoh went around Europe performing his 'I Go Chop Your Dollar' song. No one here sees anything bad in this. Apparently this does not give us a bad image. Obama makes a (true) statement and people go ballistic. Gimme a f--ng break. |
The local refineries are extremely crude, and cannot produce any appreciable volume. They serve only to provide fuel of some sort than can be burned in some IC engines. I doubt any chieftain there will be putting that into his own personal car anytime soon. I wonder. . .if the orignal poster did any chemistry while in school. The refining process is pretty complex. @poster You do realize you're advocating theft, don't you? The excuse of promoting 'jobs for youths' does not hold water here. |
@Kobojunkie It was not flesh and blood that revealed the secret of my moniker to you!! ![]() Seriously, though, it's nice to see someone remembers. Judging by the way outlaw writes, i suspect he was still an embryo when that noble series aired. |
@BigB1 Read this http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/15/37.html It's an article from Reuben Abati on the whole Obama dinner mess. a worthy excerpt is 'Obama is not running a racist or tribal campaign. As President he will not go out of his way to defend black or African interests. The myth that when our own "brother" is in power, he would defend our interest is a major shortcoming in African politics, but it is a myth that has been exploded again and again. How many brothers and sisters from our streets, residents associations, or professional groups have we voted into power or whose pre-eminence we have celebrated only for them to turn around and disappoint us thoroughly? In South Africa, two black men have been President since the introduction of black majority rule. How much change has that brought to the average black South African?' Obama is an American. Pure and simple. As an american he clearly feels the need to speak out in defence of his countrymen. His mention of Nigeria was apt. His message was clear; Do not believe everything you see in your email. There's no point in believing everything negative you read about me in your email. After all, when you get emails from Nigeria telling you you won stuff, it doesn't mean you did Obama could not use Iran or Afghanistan because there is a shortage of Iraqis or Afghans huddling in cybercafes to send a torrent of scam emails. Nigeria is not the worst country in the world. At least we're better than ZImbabwe or Haiti. But the topic at hand was a discourse on the possibility of false info via email, and there's no way he could have used haiti or zimbabwe in that context as a valid example. There's some mischief at play here. Every educated Nigerian knows of the sheer flood of emails and scam letters sent out by these Nigerian traitors to Western targets. So why the denial, why the pseudo-patriotic stance? We will not be on the right path anytime soon. Not when Nigerians try to sweep the problems under the rug instead of solving 'em. Not when 419ers are vigorously defended in all spheres of the nigerian society (yes, even Nairaland!!). Not when Yahoo boys are feted and celebrated in our society. I reiterate: Obama did nothing wrong. He's a patriotic American. As patriotic Nigerians we should try to fix the problems in our country before we start playing the saint here. Because soon we'll ALL be victims of this 419 scourge. |
outlaws:There was a slim chance for you to accept your folly and redeem yourself. Not only have you passed that up, you've gone on to snap at everyone trying to set you right. I'm torn. Either you're immature or you're just plain silly. |
@Outlaws I thought your title was stupid in it's senseless generalization. What's more stupid is your refusal to accept correction. Millions of whites are among Obama's legions of fans. The fact that a few white racists are heavily opposed to Obama becoming president doesn't mean that ALL whites want him dead. |
onyinye2:So falling in love is 'greed', abi?! Any Nigerian who finds Nkem Owoh's song funny must be an idiot. |
The truth is, everyone will try and put a positive spin on their performance. This is why even when Manchester United clinched the Premier League title in 2007, Chelsea fans were making noise that they had won more titles that year, even though we all know that the two titles (FA cup and league cup) together can not really compare to the prestige of the Premier League title. But that was just good-humoured rivalry, and an attempt to put a positive spin on things. By attempting to hype the number of medals won, and not the medal type, the US media has sought to place a positive spin about their performace. So this is why i'm at a loss why some boneheads here are saying things like 'Typical American jealousy' etc. We get it; people hate the US. That's OK. It's perfectly legal to be biased. But it should at least be sensible bias ![]() |
Arielle:Nice!! I am in complete agreement with you! |
I'm sure as time goes on the ps3 will catch up, and when it comes to graphics it has been said that the ps3 has potential
Just the same hype that killed off the Dreamcast. But much of it is pretty much all hype. The important thing is to know what your priorities are and get the console you're more comfortable with. Personally i prefer the PS3 for it's extra multimedia features at the moment, but for gamers on a budget the Xbox 360 is a much better deal. You get exactly the same performance class for lower prices. If i had a broadband internet connection, i'm sure i'd prefer the Xbox 360 for it's much stronger online scene. Either way you get to lose out on some of the more unique features each bring to the table if you own just one. |
vowiski:lol I see you're at it again. I'm not really buying that 'best graphics i've seen' angle, though. This won't come out looking as good as Crysis or Far Cry 2. |
This inspired is a very wicked fellow. Why is it that it's when i want to buy land that this fellow is tempting me seriously? eh? May God grant me the fortitude to withstand such temptation o! Now i don dey pray make dem thief my '03 Camry so i can use the insurance money to upgrade. ![]() |
