@onyinye Oprah never did say that. It was reported by one probably inebriated Nigerian, and we went into a frenzy over an untruth. Nigerians who actually watched that show have confirmed she said no such thing. |
@BigB1 Obama has talked tough on Russia, On Iran and once in a while on North Korea. No big deal, right? After all, all these countries have elements that actively seek to harm his country. And so does Nigeria. So why the big deal? If you've been victim of a scam @13 and you were able to roll with it, that doesn't mean everyone should. And i doubt you lost nearly as much at 13 as some Americans have lost at advanced ages. He's an American leader. it's his job to talk tough on people that harm his country. it's as simple as that. it would only be 'irresponsible' if his words could harm his country. As it stands, thanks to the efforts of millions of Nigerian traitors, we are in no position to take offense. @$$Rhino 1. Not all 419 scams involve 'greedy' victims. Go ask the americans that have been taken in by Romance, Church and Hurrican Katrina scams. 2. There's such a thing as entrapment. In a 419 case, as long as the money lost by the victim belongs wholly to him, he has no criminal offense committed. Every human being is greedy. it just needs something to push you over that threshhold. The victims usually are at home minding their business when a Nigerian thousands of miles away makes a tempting offer that pushes the victim over that threshold. Hell, even Nigerians are scammed by young ladies with the 'send recharge card and i'll sell it and come visit you' scam. |
@BigB1 Out of his way?! Obama is an American. Let that sink into your head. He owes NOTHING to Nigeria. Thousands of Nigerians scam Americans yearly. What side do you expect him to take? We destroy our own country by being too cowardly to accept our failings. Imagine a Nigerian living in Nigeria saying that 419 is the work of a few Nigerian fools. Yahoo Boys in Nigeria number in the thousands, if not in the tens of thousands. What respect can you demand when Nigerians are willing to wallow in corruption and fraud? If 419 is the work of a few misguided fools as you put it, how come songs glorifying 419 like Yahoozee, I go Chop Your Dollar and Mugu Don Pay always shoot to the top of the music charts in Nigeria? Mugu don Pay is the worst example, because it shamelessly promotes 419, yet we aren't ashamed for liking that fucking song. We will NEVER progress as long as we put on false airs and pretend to be among the league of holies. Obama has built up a reputation of being a frank, thoughtful man, and i do not see how an offhand remark about a country which does little to stop thousands of its citizens from scamming his country can be construed as being 'disrespectful'. Perhaps when you Nigerians decide to start using your brains and strive to reform this country, then we can take the moral high ground. In the meantime we should stop whining when someone has the balls to speak the truth. |
Big B1:The NSE DG did something that could potentially hurt him. He had to respond, and fast. If Obama could be forced to denounce his own pastor when the man almost wrecked his dream, why the hell do you want a special treatment for Nigerians? I have not seen any comments from Obama about 419, but even if he did, so what? The man is a patriot to his country, just like you claim you are. Loads of victims of Nigerian 419 are Americans. What side do you expect him to take? Nigerians just need time out to realize that 1. The world doesn't revolve around them 2. The sun don't shine out of our asses. When that happens, we'll get less paranoid topics like this. |
ritchboy:And therein lies your mistake. Of all the thousands of people that have downloaded and are using the Ps2 emu, you'll be hard pressed to find 20 people who have gone out and bought a powerful GPU because of PS2 emulation. Modern PC games are graphically intensive apps. You won't run Crysis or Bioshock on an intel GMA 950 chipset. Millions of high-end cards are on sale now, and people do buy them. Thanks to Windows Vista, most modern high-specced laptops come with decent GPUs. Even low end laptops can still ship with Geforce 8xxx series of cards. It is such people that the emu benefits. |

teddyshyne:Buy the product and stop trying to pry into his technique ![]() |
Tomb Raider has been pretty crappy lately. THe last one seemed to have lifted the series once more, so let's see how it goes. I've always found the series to be rather boring, anyway, and it hasn't been a match for the Prince of Persia series @Gamine Xena: Warrior Princess is a crappy old school hack-and-slash. No sense in going back for it. |
dreeldee:The 360 actually has a more stellar library on it then the PS3. At least for now.
, Love the Ps3 like crazy and hate the xbox 360 so much.
Funny, isn't it? Especially as both consoles are about on par with each other in terms of visual fidelity. |
it's called a cavity check, people. And it's done not only to Nigerians. Why we're so paranoid, i have no idea. |
@Ritchboy You don't seem to get the point. With a laptop you don't need a TV. So yes, you could theoretically play it on a bus, or in a hotel room. Or anywhere impromptu. Go check the forums at pcsx2.net. it's a big deal to so many people, especially people who never got a Ps2. |
Usually game for fun and competition. I love playing Pro Evo soccer, but i hate playing it alone. when i'm with company, then it's pretty cool. My best moment was flogging one Chinese guy in PES 6 at a demo kiosk in HMV. My first time ever with PES 6 for that matter, and i had to battle with the clumsy 360 pad. So yeah, it's mostly the thrill of besting someone else. That explains why my Devil May Cry 4 and GTA 4 are still unopened in my house. |
@huxley We consciously took the Bakassi case to the ICJ and swore we would abide by the outcome, no matter which way it went before the result came out. Were we forced to take the case to the ICj? Why did Nigerians not make a fuss about the issue then? |
it's high time the Govt made an example of some people. Poor fellow has never had SSS trouble before. |
@fotodaddy I agree with you 100%! What if the thieves strip down your vehicle after they've stolen it? Will the tracker help you out then? Comprehensive insurance is the way to go. If your car gets stolen, no need fretting about the condition it'll be if it ever gets recovered. Admittedly there is a delay for the insurance guys to finish their investigation, but at least you'll get paid. |
Ah, what the hell. . . ![]() Will do the word-of-mouth thingy for you. Can't wait to do the demo when next i'm in lagos. |
scorpio1:3.5G = 3G with HSDPA. The extra '.5G' is needlessly thrown in by MTN for marketing purposes. |
JosBoy4Lif:If petrol goes up to N150 a litre, would you open a filling station of your own just to keep your tank filled? |
He has been in Jail for only 1.5 months, yet he's 'rotting in jail'?! People have been in jail for 5 years without trial over stealing of chicken. I read an article in the Guardian about some teenagers in jail for 4 months because no one had come to bail them out. Their crime? Wandering. This made headlines because he's US based. When will we start treating all citizens as equals? |
Nigerians can shove their cynicism and the rudeness that goes with it where the sun don't shine ![]() In my opinion, the poor chap has been very restrained in his responses so far. He is only human and there is a limit to what people can take. Constructive criticisms from the likes of you and childish questions are of course welcome, but name-calling is unwarranted. If there is anyone you need to pull up, it is the people who accuse him of intentions to lead people to den of thieves, to divert people to shrines . . . The guy offered any potential customer a chance to test drive the product, but was accused of being a fraudster, and a stupid snakes oilman, because, in Nigeria, when you test drive a camry with a toyota engine, you get a camry with an audi engine on delivery. . . He provided link to a website, gave a list of price charged, but was told it was not convincing enough, that he is talking crap and full of bull-shit, that the odds are against him, . . . The guy even gave people a chance to download a free demo to try before they buy, yet he was called a scammer, a fraudster, that if you set off from Lagos to Warri, you would end up in Chad, . . . He has neither put a gun to anyone's head, nor try to ram his product down people's throat, so why can't people be civil enough to ignore his thread, or take him up on his offer for the test drive, before spewing their hurtful insinuation and accusation his way? Why do we use our hands and our mouth to tear down and mar people's effort?
Funny enough, you make some pretty valid points. I took time out to read all four pages, and i see now that there have been instances where people have been abusive. the guy deserves commendation for his efforts, no doubt. It's about time we had this stuff in Nigeria. @labiyemmy, More grease to your elbow. Kindly let me know if you have an agent in Port Harcourt. Friendly advice: Always be prepared for skeptics and cynical people. If you go to the Nairaland Phones section, you'll see people who have been scammed for free browsing. Last year the rage was the people who lost millions to 'wonder banks' and other dubious schemes like Nospetco et al. Unless you're pricing your maps prohibitively expensive, there's no reason why this cannot be a success on a retail level. Giving your product as broad an appeal as possible will not hurt, and there's always the 'word of mouth' effect. Don't give up on Nairaland just yet. ![]() |
From the MTN website 50MB data can be used to retrieve over 1000 emails, surf over 1500 WAP pages and download 25 songs. like hell. they estimate a song = 2MB. In which planet?! |
I was so close to getting the MTN thingy. but with this data limit, it's a deal breaker. Nigerians are such silly sheep. Vote with your wallets until MTn gets rid of this limit. if not you'll be scared to watch a single Youtube movie. |
We have four options: 1. Garmin based sat nav devices 2. Mobile phones with integrated GPS 3. PDAs with or without integrated GPS 4. Devices that run Windows mobile or win CE.
Nice. Seems you have all devices covered. I'll be calling soon to grab PHC street maps for an N95 or N96. Also may need to look at some in-vehicle options. Darn traffic warden shook me down for 4k yesterday when i got lost somewhere and mistakenly took a one-way ![]() |
What's it with you people anyway? If it isn't elitist comments like 'many Nigerians do not know what GPS is', it's generalizing statements like fotodaddy:Nigerians are cynical. It goes with the territory. There's no need to get all riled up over nothing. IMHO, the pictures should have been there from the start. Perhaps right up there with a Youtube video or two. mapping Nigeria is not an easy process, and i do not expect this service to come cheap. It is always better to remove all sources of doubt while marketing. Why else do we insist on Photos and VIN checks in this section? It is bad to advice an enterpreneur to disregard critics. Fine, dirty feedback should be discarded, but good, clean criticisms should be taken on board as scope for improvement. And just before any of your supercillous people start on me, i am not a 'loafer, unemployed looser, dropout or a yahoo yahoo fraudster' PS: I have dropped by on the 'Jobs' sections on Nairaland to give advice and to see the pains unemployed graduates in Nigeria are going through. For someone to derisively sum these people up as 'unemployed loosers', it says a lot about a lack of refinement that 'too much money' cannot purchase. |
If there's anyone out there still wondering why Nigerians lost Bakassi to Camerounians, ; it's obvious to see the reason in these responses. We are a push over! Its a great insult for a slowpoke like Saakashvili to compare America's illusory project to Nigeria! To those who say it is nothing, when will it be something? When he makes belittling comparison between Nigeria and Afghanistan? Until then we should dismiss his moronic drools as nothing important, right?
Belittling, huh? It's better to strut and pout from a position of strength. It takes FAR more courage to accept your failings, man up and strive manfully to eradicate or minimize corruption. The easier option is to bluster on an internet forum. We lost bakassi because we all sat quietly like sheep. We could have ignored the ICjs ruling, but where was the widespread discord and public anger when OBJ was signing away the territory? |
presido1:Rubbish, eh? It's a pity you have failed to come up with anything sensible to counter my arguments. all you have done is to sound retarded with your inane one-liner. |
Aren't these guys tired of wasting our Money? So many dry wells drilled, millions of dollars consumed and still no oil. = @Ono A prominent geologist once told me that it is thought that any oil in the Nigerian side of the Chad basin may have been burnt off by subsurface volcanic or thermal activity. |
belabela:The world is not anywhere close to WW3. Discerning people know this, you obviously do not. What is going on now is mere saber -rattling. At worst, we fear a return to cold war status, but this too is highly unlikely. China siding with Russia? Highly unlikely. There's a reason why highly trained russian divisions are permanently stationed at the Russia-chinese border. If you feel the need to worry for the fun of it, i can provide you with many real world problems in Nigeria that are begging for solutions. |
Why are we so fond of making mountains of molehills? The man made a fair statement in the comparison. The only reason any of you may have issues is if he was lying and NIgeria wasn't really that corrupt. But of course we all know he was saying the truth. It's a pity some silly people are so keen on proving they are more patriotic than anyone else. If only Nigerians applied this level of patriotism to paying taxes and utility bills. As far as i'm concerned there's no fucking hope for this country. As long as we live in a country where a song 'Mugu don Pay' is immensely popular, we may as well kiss our asses goodbye. |
deor03:For MEND et al, it's all about the money. . . |
hancock:I think you need to work on your reading skills, man. Learn to RTFA. |
ritchboy:it's not woth buying a PS2 just to play a few games. if your system can handle the Ps2 emulation, then there's no harm in going for it. Not everyone is going to run all out to buy a GFX card just to play PS2 games. Many PC gamers have high-specced GPUs already. And no, a PS2 isn't portable. Even if you feel a PS2 can fit into some extremely baggy trousers, you need a monitor to view the gameplay. Unless u can hook the PS2 up to your retinas, it isn't portable. a laptop on the other hand. . . So let's say you're a PC gamer with a Geforce 8800M GTS gfx card in your laptop. You like MGS 3, but it isn't woth it to buy a PS2 just for that one game. What's rong with installing the PS2 emulator? A dreamcast can be bought on ebay for $40. if i decide i'd like a chance to play Shenmue, what's more convenient a) Buy a Dreamcast and the game 2) Install a Dreamcast emulator (which runs fine on my ageing laptop with a Geforce 7600M gfx card) and run the game |
