I feel pity at you people that lull yourselves into over-estimating the strength of these millitants. So far, all they've had working for them is the element of surprise and tactical ambushes. Were a strongman like Abacha to be in charge, and a full scale amphibious assault ordered, you'd see the carnage that'd ensue. All i hear is the boys are in the creeks. So what you're saying is that Congo Brazzaville may well land 2000 well armed troops in the ND swamps and they'll perenially occupy a section of Nigeria, huh? Just thank God that so far this seems to be working for them, and Yar'Adua is mindful not to allow any possibility of an 'Odi'. yar'Adua should just give the ND states their 50% derivation and let's get on with peace. God knows that millitancy aside, the region deserves it. it's only fair. |
@Lucabrasi STOP! Take time to ruminate over your excuses and see if they make sense. You said her parents should have sent her to a private school where she'd have been less likely to meet up with unsavoury characters. This means that you're of the opinion that 1. Every serious minded parent should send their kids to private unis 2. There are no unserious and unsavoury students in private unis. We both know that isn't true. You give too much mileage to 'the girl must be of good character because we've never heard of this before'. Contrary to what you think, not every mischievous child attempts to scam their parents. And any normal parent will rather pay a ransom than bury their child, no matter how naughty the child has been in the past. lucabrasi:It is NO such indication. Public Unis are still some of the best around in Nigeria. Why are you so sure that the girl would have wanted to go to a school so far from home? Most rich kids would like to stay where they are well within the pampering arms of their parents. At least this way she probably can get a car and other perks. It may have been her choice for all you know. lucabrasi:it is clearly stated that the girl wanted millions to 'have a nice time' in school, not because of any protest of love starvation etc. That's the motive the police gleaned from the girl. Your opinion is a slap in the face of every poor person who has had to struggle through school. Such people focus on their studies and do exceptionally well. They don't go all out scamming their parents. Lastly, it is possible that the recent rash of kidnapping in Nigeria has desensitized and jaded you, but may i remind you that kidnapping is an extremely traumatizing experience, not only for the victim but for the loved ones of the victim. When you think of the agonies the parents (especially the mother) of the girl must have suffered, i swear i find it absurd why you stick to your defense of a thoroughly reprehensible act. |
@logica Scratch that. the Appstoe is a money printer. The maker of 2 Across (39th most downloaded software on Appstore) is making about $1800 daily. Not bad for a crossword puzzle app that's been out for only a week or so. Do we dare imagine what Crash Kart has made? @neoteny pool is out on Appstore. I just grabbed it off the usual sources. Also Bookshelf seems like an excellent book reader, easily better than Books.app in terms of sheer compatibility. No reason to hold back anymore, man. Well Carmarck is pretty well respected as a guy able to squeeze out the best from any device. if he says he can do it, then we'll expect great result! |
The sad part is not the corruption eating away at our society. Nope. We've all come to terms with that. What truly rankles is that some of our educated youth who are supposed to be the change Nigeria needs are dumb enough to believe that merely changing our name would fix this country. madamkoko:\What country? Wasn't it the same 'slave owner' that amalgamated this country into one? As far as i know, Lord Lugard never had slaves in Nigeria, and slavery had been abolished in Britain long before the American Civil War. Many of those names you spout have french origins. Many others are chosen at random or made up just to sound funky. There are millions of Black Americans moving around with anglophone names. Go figure. |
Haba! Just because she wanted millions to have a nice time, it doesn't mean her father is tightfisted. Someone here said that her father could afford to pay N5m for her release yet could not give her N1million. Why would you advocate a university student getting 1 million naira for pocket money? If you get kidnapped, will your parents not move the earth to secure your release? All i see is a very greedy girl, and even if she doesn't go to jail, i'll bet her parents cut her down to size. Probably will marry her off to a 50 year old man ![]() |
PS: Just read that the Nokia N6 doesn't have 3d hardware graphics acceleration. WTF?! Are they on crack? ngage store is sure to lose ground to Appstore now. I mean, most devs will focus on software render games for the Ngage platform now, and they'll suffer in side-by-side comparison to the iPhone |
@logica no big deal. can u sms me your phone number xsellize have a HUGE collection of cracked Appstore apps. Even though i've promptly downloaded loads of them, i feel kinda sad. Piracy may harm the chances of some cool stuff appearing on the appstore . . .Nah! Them developers will still make money. Downloading more now. . . |
landis:When you stop and think, you'll realise that the person who buys a human being is no worse than the person who sells a human being. But that's your problem, isn't it? You never stop to think. |
Hardballer:So what if Abiola said that? Was he an authority on that subject? it might interest you to know that the vast majority of slaves taken by the westerners were sold to them by local tribes. For instance, the Yoruba empire rulers sold off a great number of slaves, in exchange for mere trinkets. By that standard we ought to march to Oyo and demand for reparation from them. Abiola cheerfully neglected that fact. |
Tell ya the truth, 50% derivation seems fair. @Ibime Will you people be content with that? If that is done, will we have peace? |
Someone should tell the Bishop that even if God's wrath is visited on the thieves, the common man is still left hungy. Can he call upon God's wrath while they are in the act of stealing? That way not only do the baddies get their 'reward', the poor people still get the money due to 'em. |
x Jayson x:Well, confirming this to be the last 'Solid' adventure doesn't neccessarily indicate that Snake died. It could be he retired etc. . . Anyway, no beef. Still would be good to play anyhow. |
Seun is exasperated that Nigerians can be so gullible and silly nowadays to believe such claims. Superstition and unreasonable fear of the unknown prevents us from reaching our true potential. It is pointless to lambast the messenger for the tone of the message while neglecting the message itself. At least someone has the courage to speak out. People HAVE been burnt to death on the basis of this kind of needless superstition and false alarm. I know a middle aged woman who was beaten to a pulp and stripped naked on the alarm raised by someone that she stole his genitals. Every single bloody story posted about people turnign to cats or dogs has the accused people with matchete cuts, bloody noses and broken bones, yet you fat cats with nary a scratch on you can sit here and castigate Seun for using strong words here? |
@Ibime Nice answer. i'm willing to let their apathy to the Odili's of this world slide. But how about their strange preference to go after foreign Oil companies and leave the northern run NNPC alone? it is pertinent to remember that the bulk of the oil revenue from sales goes to the NNPC, and the foreign oil coys pay huge taxes to the ND states. |
lol The Bible was written by men, under divine influence. As such, even though words may differ slightly, the message is never contradictory. One other religious book tells us in one place that we should be gentle towards women, then elsewhere admonishes us to beat 'em if they misbehave. Yet another one speaks of a religion of peace in one breath, then urges the assembled brethren to exterminate all Jews. Was it not the proponent of a religion book that was reputed to have many slaves? The message matters the most! |
Here's the strange fact MEND claim to be acting in retaliation for the NNPC guy saying they paid a certain amount of funds to a millitant group. Also they claim to be acting to pressurize the federal government of Nigeria to accede to their demands. So why are attacks seemingly targeted at one company, whereas the bulk of the revenue of the crude oil production goes through the NNPC, which happens to be a Nigerian company headed by a northerner? There's more to this than meets the eye. |
@Ibime The fact remains that MEND claims to be opposed to kidnapping and thuggery. yet what action have the self-acclaimed 'lord of the creeks' done to curb this ugly trend? Isn't it the people of the Niger Delta that are suffering every time an Ateke Tom goes on rampage? You spend time carefully painting Ateke TOm as oneof the renegade groups of criminals. Do you forget that when the JTF moved to flush him out, MEND (as well as a gaggle of Ijaw elders) protested angrily in his defense. Why? If the main objective of the MEND claims is to ensure that oil from the territory is used to develop the area, why is the money from bunkered oil not used to develop certain areas of the place? And since MEND claim that Abuja men are the ones behind the bunkering, why have they failed to explain why an 'all powerful' millitant group cannot curb this 'criminal activity'. if they can blow up pipelines, why not confiscate the barges beloning to the so-called big men in Abuja? I'll tell you why; they do not have clean hands. If it can be argued that Bush has to bear some responsibility for the way the situation in Iraq has deteriorated, MEND has to bear some responsibility for its bastard children - the killers, kidnappers and thugs that roam through the streets and waterways of the Niger Delta region. It may seem convenient to romanticise an praise these guys. But when all is said and done, you'll see the lasting damage. Eventually you'll see that these guys are not Robin hood. |
neoteny There's an option to import SIM contacts by default in 2.0. it's in Settings, under Contacts etc. So no need for SIMport! I've tried neverball. it controls like Shyte, and it's a poor man's version of SMB. Now that SMB can be gotten for 'free', i see no need for Neverball. |
ow11:yep. Shut down the source of 90+% of Nigeria's income. And let's see if those bloody civil servants will get paid their salaries, eh? davidylan:There's a pattern emerging with MEND constantly attacking Shell pipelines. I myself feel there's more to this than meets the eye. Why crow about crippling attacks on a Tax paying company? And why does no one realize that these pipeline explosions send barrels of oil spilling into the coastal/swamp waters? |
@Neoteny Easy there, man. Anyway, i've been using iPhone PC suite for all my uploads. Yesterday was the first time i ever used SSH, and i cannot believe it took me so damn long. Usually after the PC suite upload, i set permissions with Mobile FInder or Squid. Meanwhile, the Monkeyball worked! Saved me $9.99. Also there's a cracked version of crash bandicoot nitro kart. so that's $9.99 wasted. So far, 2.0 has been stable, but i miss my iSMS pretty bad. |
ps3fanboy:Guys, easy with the spoilers. not all of us have played the game yet. it isn't cool to reveal plot twists without warning. If you must, use the commonly accepted SPOILER ALERT syntax before you write. |
The most corrupt people in Nigeria and Nigerians. This cuts across all sectors of our population. It's extreme laziness to point fingers at the big fish, yet fail to castigate the budding criminals who will also destroy this country if given the chance. The problem we have in this country is that the Market woman who uses the bottom of the tin to measure rice for her customer feels she has a moral right to criticize the likes of Abacha or Etteh. The lecturer who collects bribe feels he has the right to castigate our leaders. No matter how corrupt our leaders at the top are, money trickles down to the grassroots. Yet this same money is consumed by corrupt grassroot officials. One of the major issues behind the underdevelopment of the Niger Delta is not from the top. If Local Government Councils were doing their work, would there be as much underdevelopment? As long as councillors exist to pay salaries alone and do nothing about roads, schools, housing etc, there will be no progress. And myopic people will always point fingers at IBB and Abacha. So next time you drive one-way, think about the fact that you're every bit a part of the rot as Abacha et al were. People who do not pay taxes or NEPA bills have the balls to abuse the president on the state of the Power sector. that's sickness right there. |
Finally did the upgrade to 2.0. Seems nice so far, hope i don't get the battery life issues you had? Neoteny, will send you that stuff later today. |
x Jayson x:Why the hell would you put a spoiler like this in a public forum when many people haven't played the game? I've read many reviews of MGS4, and everyone has been pretty smart about not spoiling the experience for others. Except you. |
Neoteny You will like this. Are you pondering what i'm pondering? http://allforces.com/2008/07/22/share-apps-between-iphones/ http://www.tuaw.com/2008/07/25/multiple-iphone-household-share-your-apps |
@Just2nice Not sure if that's possible. |
