By far the best option is to go to http://www.vixy.net
Enter the URL of the video you wanna download and it allows you to choose your download format

i.e Mp4 for ipod and PSP
AVI
even Mp3 to rip audio alone from videos.

In Nigeria one can still talk of revenue collected?? It still remains that the fact that the lives of these people have barely been affected by the money being pooled into these states so far means something is wrong and the people are still in need. Giving them Naira 10,000 each is not going to make the problem go away. We are speaking of land destroyed by oil spills. Their main form of livelihood destoyed and many of these people owning land that is considered USELESS and with reduced worth. Those in leadership who are sucking up the money should be prosecuted by the federal government. I mean come on , even I understand these people are becoming more and more desperate by the YEAR cause it seems no one cares for them but the oil that can be taken from their land, while they get to suffer and not benefit much from the gold.
Don't believe the hype. there aren't that many lands 'destroyed' by oil spills. I dare say without a guide you will not be able to find any one yourself.
These guys were never much better than subsistence farmers and fishermen anyway. and the vast majority of oil spills in the past 5 years comes from illegal bunkering operations. no prizes for guessing which people carry out the bunkering.

I don't know about people getting more and more desperate when they constantly elect leaders they know to be crooks. look at the rousing reception given to Alams. all through his ordeal he wasnever regarded as having betrayed his kinsmen anyway.
Down to the village level everyone of these guys is hinkin gof how to make money for himself and shaft the rest

I feel calling BBA 'porn' is a pretty harsh call indeed.
And yes, it's rating (16NL) is apt. 16 year olds can handle nudity. I'm sure the ratings for movies with steamy sex scenes are similar, at least i'll bet Basic Instinct is about the same rating.

The other alternative is to divided the oil derivation to the state and share the money to the people of this state as welfare money. So instead of given the money directly to the state, we may pay the money directly to the people from the local govt where there is oil. We call it OIL welfare money.
So if in a village with no light and roads you hand each person N10000, what has that benefitted them?

Orikinla:
I have a problem with the level of ignorance displayed on Nairaland on the issue of BBA.

The producers and sponsors of BBA have a commercial agenda and the sexploitation of Africa did not start with BBA and we must condemn it without delay.

If the senators are screwing your sisters or aunties in Abuja, your sisters and aunties are prostitutes and they did not screw them on TV before millions of viewers.

Any Nigerian girl or woman who is as desperate as Ofuneka, can even get paid $250,000 act in only three hours of a porn movie. I have American friends who are porn actresses and they can help the Ofunekas on Nairaland and elsewhere in Nigeria to become porn stars and you don't have to compete for 90 days to win of lose $100,000 for a porn reality TV show called BBA.

BBA 2 really showed me the true colours of many members of Nairaland and I thank God that the shameless prostitutes among them are now exposed.

Please, Seun, create a Nairaland Board for Porn.
It is our human right to have a section of Nairaland to view videos of BBA with all the shower hours and sex scenes.
For someone open-minded enough to start a post on Nairaland called 'Talk to Your Vagina' it shouldn't be a great leap of faith to accept that people seek different forms of entertainment and their tastes might differ from yours. So what?
I don't watch big brother, and i consider it a waste of my time. But there are always people who are ready to dump on what you do for entertainment. I watch cartoons like The Simpsons, Johnny Bravo and i play video games occasionally. I've had people walk by and make some crappy remark. That doesn't make it right.

I gave a useful analogy of the cancelled Miss World beauty paegeant. So why was there so much furore in the south about the Northern muslims imposing their beliefs on us? Afterall, to many of the guys up north a beauty competition like that is just shy of pornography. But that THEIR view and it's wrong to impose your views on others.

I'm tired of repeating this over again. Responsible parents can prevent their children from watching nudity. And Orikinla, i find it odd that a proponent of sex education like yourself is harping on and on about nudity.

Also amusing is you and kobojunkie's resolve to use the US as an analogy for how broadcasts should be run. Yes, NBC et al ban showing off too much flesh on live television, if you will. That makes them a good model to follow, right? Yet in the US homosexuals and lesbian are given free rein in society, yet it's a semi-crime here in nigeria to be gay. So how do you benchmark what standards to be aped here in Nigeria from the US?

As long as your preferred choice of entertainment does not bring harm to others, why should it be a bother to a censor? why are we applauding when the House of Reps choose an utterly non-essential topic to show Nigerians their seriousness after ettehgate?

Orikinla, i'm not too sure who your 'sisters and aunties' comments were directed at, but i need you to clarify i'm not included in that. It's not worded like a general analogy and it appears that was directed at some specific people. I know you're not a kid so i'm shocked at the immature tone your article drifted to at times. while i know you took a lot of flak on the BBA thread, it still does not excuse this.

This has nothing at all to do with the topic under discussion, i guess.
But someone once told me

"Up to 10% of the fuel available in Nigeria is burnt off in hold ups. if steps were taken to ameliorate areas of traffic bottlenecks, we'd see less fuel consumption and more savings for the average motorist"

Even though solving such problems is easier said than done, i feel that finding avenues to conserve energy/resources will at least ameliorate our energy situation in Nigeria.

me, i've long switched to energy conserving bulbs. not because of NEPA bills (the bastards just give me a default bill of between 5 - 7k monthly even with a truly pathetic supply) but to ease off the stress on my Generator cheesy

TV/Movies › Re: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by texazzpete(m): 4:58pm On Nov 18, 2007
@Kobojunkie
Life is all about choice here. people in that house are all above 20 and they made a logical, rational choice to enter the show for money.
As i said before, the show is rated 16NL. For God's sake why would a parent allow his/her kid to watch something rated 16NL? Why isn't there as much furore about movies? Haven't Saw 2 and Hostel been shown on TV before?

Nearly every movie out there has scenes inappropriate for children, yet there's no furore over it. Maybe it's because Nigerians find it more difficult to get self-righteous about violence in movies. Go find out how many of us watched Chuck Norris slit throats and break necks as 7-8 year olds.

Big Brother Africa is a REALITY show. it takes a sandbox approach to show the interactions and dynamics of people forced to live together for some time. The Cameras are actually to be on them at all times to stay true to the theme. naturally, gross scenes like toilet scenes are left out, it's not like you talk 2 someone when you're taking a shit.

I have no time or patience to watch Big brother but i dislike people forcing their choices on others.
After all, when our northern muslim brothers went on a rampage condemning the hosting of the Miss World beauty paegent, many people from the south were up in arms condemning them for trying to impose their beliefs on others. but here we are and the same people are now trying to force their ideas and choices on others.

As per the issue of parental guidance, BBA is shown only on DSTV ( at least the shower hour part). By default you can set parental guidance locks on each DSTV box, so you don't need no v-chip in your TV. Every household with DSTV can use this feature if they want. If you're leaving your kids at home, simply set the block to show stuff suitable for minors. simple! don't label something as 'immature' until you're absolutely sure you're on point with what you're saying

As for your janet jackson analogy, that was a poor analogy. BBA is rated 16NL. Superbowl is probably rated E for everyone, so families and kids were watching when she did the whole boob job. Ditto for shows like the Oscars and Music awards.

Please go to www.dictionary.com and check the meaning of 'facts'.
Stop being an ignoramus. the only family member to speak out is Gus Grisson, whose father died in the Apollo 1 fire. He wasn't there at the fire, all his claims are founded on personal beliefs and not facts. one of the disciples of Bill kaysing, i'm afraid.

The site i sent you had refutals of all the allegations made during the Fox broadcast. Whether or not they are NASA collaborators as you say is immaterial. in each case they've provided concrete scientific proof for their refutals, something you have failed to do.
The missing tapes are the original high-resolution tapes, the video feed before the downsampling for television quality. ordinary quality tapes exist of all the Apollo landings. But you know nothing of research, do you?

But i'll be damned if a foolish rabble-rouser wastes any more of my time. It's a pity i'll leave you as ignorant as when i met you, but that's your own fault.

A sterling example of how these millitants do not care about the masses is the pathetic example of Wilbros.
When Wilbros had to pull out of Naija because of one kidnapping too many, thousands of nigerians (with the bulk of them being from the Soutn South) were rendered jobless. Did the millitants care? NO!
These same people will now face the harsh pangs of poverty, and in turn will become the rallying point for more millitants.

Let's say peace finally prevails and the govt. gives in to their demands. Will the millitants now raise the dead? All the innocent people that have been killed (reports say a pregnant woman died last week as a result of millitant activity, the Agip worker shot during the 2006 robbery attack, innocent people killed in PH and warri) don't they deserve justice too?
isn't it a disservice to moan about Odi massacre, then conveniently fail to mention the seven soldiers that were tortured, killed and beheaded, with their heads mounted on spikes? Don't they have mothers and fathers too?

As for those talking about suicide bombing, get real. No non-muslim Nigerian is likely to go blow himself up.
Politics › Re: South South: A Time Bomb Waiting To Explode by texazzpete(m): 10:46am On Nov 18, 2007
Why do we always seek for reasons to blame the west for our troubles? The Nigerian Government takes over 90% of the oil money, leaving the rest for the western oil majors to share. If you didn't know this, know it now.
I strongly believe the South South people deserve their lot. What are they complaining about?
No roads? They get the lion's share of the oil money (Derivation). Do you know how much Bayelsa state receives monthly from their share of the oil derivation? Alams was proven to have stolen over N50bn. Yet they treated him as a hero, the 'Governor general' of the Ijaws.
Do you have any idea how many roads N50bn can build?
The money Odili et al stole, what happened to it? Hundreds of billions of naira stolen by their kin.

Now, for those of you claiming you support the struggle, step back and think a bit:

In Lebanon, hezbollah remains a millitant group. yet they run hospitals, build houses and roads and schools.
All the money MEND et al have gained from their operations, what have they spent on their fellow south-south man? Are they in the least like Robin Hood, robbing the rich to pay the poor, or are they merely exploiters, using the struggle as a front to make money.
in fact, most of the environmental damage in the South-South for the last couple of years is caused by the bunkering activities of these millitants.

So how do you plan to 'pacify' them? Give them more money so the elite keep eating and the poor keep suffering? the problem will not end no matter how much money you give them because little or nothing will trickle down to the common man, and they and their cronies will continue to benchmark themselves with their counterparts in Dubai, Oman and other oil-rich area, neglecting to factor in the insatiable corruption of their leaders.
Christianity Etc › Re: No More Christmas For Me! by texazzpete(m): 9:58am On Nov 18, 2007
The poster and the people supporting her are the people desperately trying to kill off any joy in Christianity. I mean, everyone knows that Dec 25th most likely maky not be the exact birthday of Jesus, but it's a date set aside to mark his birth.
The people talking about baby jesus, i wonder what planet they are from. whether baby or grown up man, he is Jesus. the bible says a new king was born that day, not someone who would grow up to be king. So it really doesn't matter if people fuss over the baby jesus. Afterall, the Bible goes to such pains to let us know that jesus came down to be HUMAN just like the rest of us. And what else highlights his human status then than a cute, wriggly baby?

People must gripe over every little thing. it's not enough that Jesus said 'love your Neighbour as yourself and God above everything' as prerequisite to enter heaven. Or that we've been told that keeping His commandments is the way to heaven. some people must invent more hoops and hurdles to jump through.

Santa Claus is an artificial construct. no one has made any attempts to tie this character to Jesus and the Bible. However Christmas is/should be characterised by a spirit of giving and peace to all mankind, and Santa Claus embodies that fact. If you don't like the idea of Santa, then don't go visit one or allow your kids visit one. Don't come up in a public forum with silly anagrams.
it's not enough to show that re-arranging Santa gives satan (naturally the simple minded people think the Devil would actually utilise such a simplistic guise). Show that Santa does satanic/devilish things and then we'll listen.

Till then, these people should be regarded as sour rabble rousers.

i do not dispute that the US usually is biased towards Israel for its own strategic interests. You may freely bring this up when you're in your usual anti-US mode, i won't dispute that.
However we're talking about Darfur here, and your fellow Africans are dying like flies. Perhaps in your preoccupation with the uS and Israel you have not realised the scale or the enormity of the carnage, but more people have died in Darfur than in Iraq, very many innocent women and children are dead. And they are Africans, just like you and i.
In tackling this case we should look at the parties standing as a clear obstacle to peace. And China and the Sudanese government are the clear baddies here.

For once, cast aside your snide comments on the situation in the Middle East and focus on a theater that should concern you even more.

But it's clear that i'm fighting a losing battle trying to reason with you. From what i can glean from what you've said, as long as there's instability in the Middle East there might as well be in Darfur, right?
It shows that if you were the UN Sec. general you'd do nothing to stop this carnage.

How can you be so Blind?
The entry in Wikipedia is not saying these guys were murdered. it is quoting the Fox documentary's  (which has long since been rubbished by scientists) accusation. Nowhere in Wikipedia does it state that they were murdered.
Sheesh!

You have a problem with NASA investigating the cause of the Apollo 1 fire, yet you whole-heartedly accept that what Fox news said in their programme was correct?

Fox's main hatchet man is a guy called Bill Kaysing. Here's some stuff about your hero

"Along with the "live" footage, NASA produced still photographs. After painstaking examination of these photos, Kaysing concluded that they were not taken on the moon. He holds up the famous pictures of the lunar landscape. "No stars," he says simply. "Standing on the moon and looking up at the heavens would be like standing on Mount Whitney on a clear night and seeing billions of stars right out to the horizon."

But in all the photos, the firmament is completely black. "That, to me, is the strongest evidence."
"

Why can't you see the stars in the photographs on the moon?
Answer
There's really no different between the sky on the Moon and the sky during day time on Earth.  The fact that the sky on Earth is blue because of the atmosphere and it is black on the Moon makes no difference.   You cannot see stars during the day.

The lunar surface is very bright.  Brighter than the brightest day in the hottest part of the world.  This is obvious when you think about it.  There are no atmosphere or clouds on the moon.   In comparison to this bright surface, the stars are very dim.

It is very difficult to get a photograph of a very dim object and a very bright object at the same time.  If you set the camera to take a photograph of the bright object (using a fast exposure) you won't capture the dim object at all.  If you set the camera to take a picture of the dim objects, then the bright objects will appear as very fuzzy and over-exposed blobs.

The cameras and films the Apollo missions took with them were also designed to photograph activities on the moon's surface.  They were not designed to take photographs of the stars.   It doesn't mean the stars weren't there, just that the photographs did not capture them.   The exposures were set to work with the brightly light surface and astronauts.

This is the same fellow that believes the US blew up their space shuttle Challenger just because Christa mcAuliffe (a civillian) was going to tell the world that you can see stars in space. His evidence? None.
I mean, why would he need evidence when he knows that Horuses and Mdsocks of this world would swallow the crap without even attempting to think for themselves.
He goes on that a geologist (he didn't name him, of course!) told him the moon rocks were made on earth. Where's the evidence? Which sample did his 'geologist' analyse?

i'm tired of this topic. Polls show that 20% of Americans feel the moon landings were a hoax. That doesn't surprise me. 10% of american high school students think Germany was an American ally in world war 2. People will always exhibit their ignorance. i just didnt expect Nigerians to number 'em.

Can we call a truce on this one and focus on the issues pertaining to Sudan and Darfur? We're african and sudan is an african country, the people of Darfur are black just like us. If it comes up that China is a major player in the continuation of violence, we must direct our ire there. it does no good to rope in the US or Israel at the moment in this topic.
