@Kosovo Inferior laptops, eh? Here's a list of the impressive features packed in this laptop CPU: 433 MHz AMD Geode LX-700 at 0.8 Watts, with integrated graphics controller 1200×900 7.5" diagonal LCD (200 dpi) that uses 0.1 to 1.0 Watts depending on mode. The two modes are: Reflective (backlight off) monochrome mode for low-power use in sunlight. This mode provides very sharp images for high-quality text. Backlit color mode 256 MB of Dual (DDR266) 133 MHz DRAM (in 2006 the specification called for only 128 MiB of RAM[25]) 1024 KiB (1 MiB) flash ROM with open-source Open Firmware 1024 MB of SLC NAND flash memory (in 2006 the specifications called for only 512 MB of flash memory[26]) Internal SD card slot[27] Wireless networking using an “Extended Range” 802.11b/g wireless chipset run at a low bitrate (2 Mbit/s) to minimize power consumption. Marvell 8388 wireless chip, chosen due to its ability to autonomously forward packets in the mesh even if the CPU is powered off. An ARM processor is included. Dual adjustable antennas for diversity reception. Water-resistant membrane keyboard using a fairly conventional (QWERTY in the US International localization) layout. The multiplication and division symbols are included. Dual five-key cursor-control pads; four directional keys plus Enter Touchpad for mouse control and handwriting input Built-in color camera, to the right of the display, VGA resolution (640×480) Built-in stereo speakers Built-in microphone Audio based on the AC97 codec, with jacks for external stereo speakers and microphones, Line-out, and Mic-in 3 external USB 2.0 ports. Power sources: DC input, ±10–25 V 5-cell rechargeable NiMH battery pack, 22.8 watt-hour (82 kJ) capacity External manual power options include a pull-string generator designed by Potenco WTF?! cramming a hi-res screen, long battery life, WIFI, in built camera, microphone, speakers, 3 USB ports, 256MB RAM, SD card slot, handwriting recognition, crank power generation, child friendly OS and you call it inferior? e I'm not surprised many people here are condemning the scheme. I've long since realised that subconsciously many Nairalanders do not wish Nigeria well. Here's a chance to get our kids extremely useful learning aids, tools to boost the assimilation of hi-technology into their lives at an early age, a tool which could lead to unprecedented educational exchanges between our impressionable kids and their counterparts in other developed countries and you whine about it. I guess you lot would prefer that we remain a Nation that specialises in repairing outdated electronics instead of innovating and actually inventing anything. |
@onavae No need to worry. As you said, anyone that makes it into the programme has the neccessary skills to go through anything. The success rate is now about 100% anyway That isn't to mean it isn't stressful. You could be tearing your hair out with tension and frustration, but you'll pass! The exams will be plenty, but they're only 1hr exams. |
Here's something i can say to y'all hopefuls. 1. SITP admission is purely on merit, so no need to feel scared of any possible wuru-wuru. Even with recent reports of planned streamlining in the organization, recruiting new staff still has priority. 2. The Current SITP batch should be out in february, so you guys should start medicals sometime this month (if you made it through the SRD stage successfully) 3. Definitely higher than 280. It should be a whole lot closer to 350 mikkyphp:ALL Engineering disciplines can apply, IMHO. There are dedicated civil engineers in SPDC anyway, so there's always a niche for you to fill onavae:Lol. There's a reason the 'i' in SITP stands for intensive. After 50 + 1 hrs exams, you'll know what it is to go through an intensive training programme. ![]() |
@rolandwhywhy Glad you got the intended humor. If you DO stay in PH (and if you promise not to do too many weird things) maybe we could hook up someday. . . |
rowlandwhy:Just for the record, MU2 doesn't translate into MUMU. The 'Squared' symbol only acts on the U. Thus you're merely calling him a MUU. Try (MU)2 next time. And pay more attention in math classes! |
I'm not selling it. I'm giving it to interested people. It's about 5.4 GB so it's gotta be on a DVD. Present location is PH, holla me if you're near by |
@infobaba I know Nokia don't pay either of us any money, so why would i label any well-crafted phone as 'bad rubbish' simply because it isn't a Nokia? You haven't used an Iphone for extended periods yet you condemn it. Go get yourself and iphone and for Okoro's sake, break free of Nokia's yoke! |
@infobaba 3rd party apps have solved 90% of all the gripes you mentioned. There's nothing the N95 has that hasn't been seen before. The iphone is a revolutionary device and it's the first of its kind. You Nigerians live, eat and breathe nokia. Sheesh! |
Yup! I also heard that people who go on public forums to post rumors about unfeasible things happening would have their joysticks chopped off. You still scared? ![]() |
CHe Guevara sought to change governments with violence, topple old ones and replace them with new, even through a river of Blood. Nairaland's posse of US-haters labels him a hero. George Bush sought to change the dictatorial Government in place in Iraq and replace it with democracy (a government of the people) The same posse labels him a warmonger. Surely there's a whiff of hypocrisy here. . . ![]() |
I am saddened by the level of ignorance in this forum as to what our Children really need. Teach a man to fish, and he'll never go hungry. Instead you misguided fellows are advocating giving the man a morsel of fish to tide him over for a day. . . The ignorance is strong in these ones. . . |
Only dweebs move because others tell 'em to. The maker of the PES series has apologized to fans for PES 2008s lameness, and has promised to go back to the drawing board for pes 2009 Pro Evolution Soccer creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has revealed that he's gone back to the drawing board for PES 2009 following the criticism of the 2008 edition on PS3. "It's so far from what we wanted", Seabass said of PES 2008 on PS3 in an interview with PSM3 magazine in its latest issue (#95), echoing words said to CVG in October. "In fact," he continued, "we thought about delaying it but different factors meant we had to [release it]". "As a developer, we've worked the same way since the days of the SNES. We're simply not set up for multi-platform development". But, asking us to look at the way the PS2 version panned out from the first to the last game, Seabass reassured that the development team is well on course to follow suit on PS3. However, the criticisms levelled at PES 2008 on PS3 have forced the series' creator back a peg or two with PES 2009. "PES 2009 is in development, but after hearing the criticism, we'll be taking it back to the drawing board. It might not be next year, but it will be soon", Seabass explained. Hordes of people have returned their copies of PES 2008 in the UK, with a huge population now switching over to fifa 2008. As for me, PES 6 is way more fun. |
The Ignorance is strong in this thread Imagine a guy here saying that he can only install apps on his iphone if he jailbreaks it. How the frag did you get a non-jailbroken phone to work in naija anyway? All unlocked iphones are jailbroken already. The truth is, many of y'all bashing the iphone have never used it before. The iphone provides a refreshing glimpse at the future, and provides lots of power under the hood. Aren't you guys a teensy bit tired of the dated series 60 interface, scrolling through long menus with crappy joysticks? Installing the same inane sis and java apps to your nokia devices? The N95 has many cool features, but so many aren't truly useful in Nigeria. GPS for example is a pretty much unused feature by Nigerian users. Don't get me started on TV too, you'll search in vain to pick up a DVB-T signal in Nigeria (or most parts of Africa, for that matter). The abysmal battery life of the N95 is mentioned in EVERY single review, and it's a major complaint. The iphone has many things it does that the N95 cannot dream of. It's multimedia features are unparalled, it's internet browser blows away anything on the N95 (and that includes your entire collection of sis and java browser apps). It's email feature may be simplistic, but its far and away more accessible and better presentd than that on the N95. It was adjudged to have the 'best calender on any mobile handheld device'. With practice you'll type way faster on the iphone's keypad than the N95's keypad. Tell me, which nokia handset can belt out 5 hours of video and 480 x 320 resolution, or 23 hours of audio? Certainly not the N95! Most of the iphone's missing features are all software related. OPen source hackers have full fledged SMS and MMS apps for the iphone. Hell, there's even a PLAYSTATION and GAME BOY ADVANCE emulator for the iphone. There's a reason the iphone was named Time magazine's invention/device of the year 2007. NOT any nokia phone. @Tope Teadr Complicated around the internet feature? In your vocabulary this probably means you can't configure the iphone for glo GPRS (Celtel and MTN are dead easy). The answer can be found by googling, but i suspect you're too lazy to check. . . |
I'm shocked someone here says the iphone is too complicated. So big shiny icons are too complicated for you abi? The iphone rocks a 624Mhz ARM processor and a powerVR 3d chip, so it should be able to pump out graphics superior to the Nokia N95 if need be. also it runs a mobile version of Mac OSX, and with the Apple SDK coming out in february you can be sure the explosion of apps coming to the phone. The iphone costs $400. The N95 costs $700. go figure! |
@mamajama paragraph 3 of your article states that che guevara oversaw the executions of hundreds of millitary and civillian prisoners accused of being part of the deposed governments, yet you're asking what people he killed? It pays to read your own articles. |
Lack of research and a stubborn refusal to apply logic remains the bane of many Nigerians even as we enter a new year. |
@ayanfe You're a truly amusing fellow. foolish, yes, but amusing nonetheless. If you'd half a brain, you'd have learnt that most of the voter unrest in kenya had to do with the suspicious delay in releasing the results of the elections. The fact that the parliamentary elections were held simultaneously with the presidential election and that the opposition won far more seats than the ruling party should serve as an indicator that regular electoral irregularities were of a magnitude far lower than that seen in Nigeria. And yes, bringing up voters' turnout is neccessary, if only to show us that we need to get out to vote when the situation calls for it. keep up with the insults. it merely amuses me, yet simultaneously shows you up as a slowpoke. |
Seun:I Don't think David had world domination in his plans, just obtaining the promised land, nothing more. you'll recall he didn't try to claim the land occupied by their arch-enemies the Philistines Hitler deviated from the plan my attempting to fulfil his racial masterplan, the elimination of the Jews and other undesirables like gypsies. Blacks even ranked lower than the Jews in his eyes in terms of racial 'inferiority'. All the other names above brought glory to their countries. Hitler, however, ultimately brought doom and tragedy to his country. |
otokx:Correction Double standards has always been the problem of the entire human race. I'm yet to see any country/person that doesn't put its/his own interests first. |
You're right, you're not a very good history student. Please, learn about issues before you form up an opinion. Most importantly, Hitler is long dead and you're alive. have a splendid New Year! You get off easy only because of that last paragraph, man! |
Yes, BigB1, but i don't trust you. Now, if you're an opposition candidate running for election in your country you've been away from for so long, and you had to face insinuations of being too cozy with western powers would you 1. Stay in Pakistan, continue your grassroots campaign, build on your popularity and meet your fans or 2. Stay in a well fortified US camp in Neighbouring Afghanistan, campaining from hovering helicopters etc and risk being tainted as a US stooge Your choice. She made hers. |
You poor deluded fellow. How many cases of widespread electoral irregularities did you hear coming from Kenya? How many are quoted in the article? There's no firm proof of widespread rigging (unlike Nigeria) hence the diplomatic statement by the EU monitor. I find his statement apt, and if you were smart enough you'd see it completely encompasses all the relevant issues. The tallying process is where the Opposition candidate has the most grouse with, and that's what the monitor remarked on. What should make ALL nigerians hang their heads with SHAME is the reports emanating from Kenya that there was a record turnout of voters. COmpare this to Nigeria where shameless citizens refused to vote, yet feel they then have a right to complain about the Yar'Adua Government. |
@BigB1 Most of the people that hated her were the Islamic extremsts that hated the idea of a woman leader. Yes, some people hated her (which politician didnt have thousands of enemies) but her party still remained the most popular in Pakistan. She had one thing no Nigerian politician can dream of having Love I cannot imagine thousands of Nigerians crying if Yar'Adua gets bumped off As to your allegations, The US has no hand in Pakistani internal security. Hell, the US has to pay Pakistan money because the Pakistan armed forces is supposed to be fighting terrorists on the Americans' behalf. Have you heard of US troops operating permanently from Paki territory? The US secret service could not prevent an untrained civillian from seriously wounding President Reagan in the early 80s. They cannot protect their own soldiers completely from suicide and roadside bombing. What kind of logic do you apply to convince yourself that they could have prevented any such attack? |
Truth be told, Nigeria doesn't need raving idiots like the original poster if we truly are to develop. Were this to be Engadget or xda-developers or any other forum/blog i visit, i'd have insisted he was trying for sarcasm. But i know how illogical people can be on Nairaland, and this guy takes the cake, hands down! What next? Blame the US for the killer beans saga? |
anyone who says very few Nigerians are involved in 419/AFF has obviously not set foot in a Nigerian cybercafe in the past 4 years. There are thousands of Yahoo Boys in Lagos alone. Tens of thousands even. If our hand clean, how come Yahoozee, a song obviously glorifying yahoo lifestyle was so wildly popular in Nigeria? Was it the upright, virtuous Nigerians that bought Osuofia's album in Droves to hear 'I go Chop Your Dollar'? True, online scammers exist in other countries, but the usually shoot for the one-time, fire and forget fraud schemes like credit card theft, information theft, etc. Scams of Nigerian origin are notorious for cruelly milking their victims dry, sometimes over years. Finally, not even in Russia or former Soviet countries do scammers parade themselves openly and receive accolades from an adoring public. In Nigeria, scammers are socialites and celebrities. They go to club, spraying dollars and are fawned upon as they loudly announce their latest coup. Finally, i'm sick and tired of saying this: Not every Nigerian scam originates from greed of the victims. The guy Ade Bendel duped of $500,000 simply wanted to open a large scale farm in Nigeria. Is that not a legal aspiration. @babasin babasin:You'll find that those banks have nothing to do with the british government. The Government however can step in when it has sufficient proof of money laundering. besides, it'll cause a serious diplomatic furore if you start freezing the assets of a serving head of state. People like you would then accuse the British Govt of insolence. Only in Nigeria do we blame the victims. that's when when a burst pipeline explodes people start pointing fingers at the Government instead of the careless people siphoning fuel. FIx the corruption endemic in most nigerians before we start blaming the victims |
@HNIC Don't worry. Arse-Anal are [s]Have higher Goal Difference than their rivals[/s] Just wait until Van Persie gets back from Injury! Just wait until Hleb and Fabregas return! Oh wait! They're actually back, aren't they? I'm sure you gunners will actually THINK of some decent excuses next time. Till then. . .Choke on our Dust, lamers! yes, i'm a United fan. Up your Arse, Gooners! Now i'm off to go snigger on the Chelsea thread! |
sojioguns:very few threads on nairaland are as vulnerable to fraudsters as the tech market section, so whenever someone puts somethi g here for sale, people here scrutinize the entire deal for potential fraud. In this case the 500 pieces triggered off many peoples internal alarms, hence the derisive remarks. Simple logic, yet it's a pity YOU cannot understand |
@neoteny i feel u man! 3rd party hacks makethe phone more flexible. Soon we'll have mms, voip, video recording etc on the iphone. When the sdk comes out, a whole new world of apps will be unleashed! I find that most ppl thsr complain about the iphone battery are those that can't keep their hands off their shiny new toy. |
@ceejay80s ass = US English arse =British version. You'll never catch an englishman saying 'ass' I hope you're appreciative of the education you've just received, slowpoke. |
. dedarkman:I know you need a favour from this guy, but why the abject grovelling? |
tosinadeda:You're a fine one to talk! You apparently don't know the difference between 'am' and 'i'm'. Your punctuation skills could use a little help too. Before you correct someone else, make sure your English is perfect. |
Seun:True, DVDs are only SD, but upscaling DVD players can upscale the resolution up to 1080i, providing you with an even sharper image. A more cogent reason to get an LCD or Plasma is gaming, with the next generation of gaming consoles supporting HD resolutions for stunning visuals. Until you hook up a PS3 to a HDTV, you won't appreciate it's graphical prowess. I have a 37'' LCD HDTV, and i can hook up my laptop to it when i'm at home, use a wireless keyboard and mouse and easily get a 37'' monitor for my PC. You cannot dare do that on a CRT! I agree that NIgerian providers and DSTV do not broadcast in HD yet, but DSTV should be rolling out HD channels by 2009 (so they say). Is it so bad to get a future-proof TV? sojioguns:You really should be more scientific in your analysis. Contrary to what you're saying, there's little to choose between LCDs and Plasmas, and TVs with similar contrast ratio will have the same level of blacks. LCDs do not have higher resolutions than Plasmas, there are 1080p LCDs and Plasmas out there, and in fact LCDs are easily more expensive than Plasmas when you get into the 1080p territory. Does it seem logical to you to benchmark two different products from different companies with differing specs and then on the basis of that proclaim that one technoilogy is superior to the other? It's like taking any random diesel car and any random gasoline car, racing them and then saying one is better than the other based on the finish time. |
