Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by TheBae: 12:06am On Jun 11, 2020
Hello there,
Unfortunately you will not be able to secure a masters with a CGPA this low.
Consider going for a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate.
Good luck

zill001:
Please am new here. Am planning on applying for a masters degree program in Canada. Does anyone know a university that can admit student with low GPA from first degree. I graduated with a 2.5 GPA and most schools I have made enquiries with do not accept such a low GPA.

Kindly help with any valuable information. Thanks in advance

Okay. The tool definitely gives an accurate evaluation. Pretty decent then.
I would advise you to stick to WES.
Igbiboi:

I used the unofficial evaluation on WES website and it gave me 3.05. However, do you have any idea of how the evaluation thingy goes...
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 7:41pm On Jun 29, 2016
Your GPA will not be up to 3.0 on a 4point scale.
Igbiboi:
Hello house I want a clarification to Credential evaluation. I heard WES is good, but I understand that they take a lot of time, Please can someone tell me another credential evaluation that doesn't slash GPA very much like ECE I can use. My GPA is 3.2 and I want it to be in the 3.0 bracket even after evaluation.
Thanks

They sell Indomie in some halal and asian stores. Also on Amazon.ca
coobboy:

You gonna have to sub that with sausage rolls and rahmen noodles cheesy
I'm good Bruv and how are you
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 1:41pm On Jun 27, 2016
This is too vague. You might not get any reasonable response. What program are you trying to apply for?
Christian129:
Hi guys. Please I'm a newbie here. Please I need help locating schools that don't ask for "75% average in the last 4 semesters" thanks
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 1:39pm On Jun 27, 2016
You have nothing to worry about. Your study permit let's you work part-time during the semester and full-time on holidays. Like your friend said, you can apply for PGWP afterwards
o2:
Hello, I just discovered that even though work was part of my study progrmmes in Canada (post graduate diploma). I only applied for study permit and when filling the pre application questtioniare online I picked the option that explains that work was not part of my study in Canada. Someone told me I shouldn't bother that after I get to Canada I can apply for the work permit but I hope this won't be classified as giving wrong information. Someone should please epp. By the way I submitted my application online on the 22nd of April and no Medical call yet.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 10:56pm On Jun 25, 2016
I think you should stop worrying about which of the false answers may have put the VO off and endeavour to tighten all loose ends by answering questions truthfully and accurately as well as providing documents to back them up when necessary. Goodluck in your next application
MunezSanti:
I made a mistake with that question. I hope that my gcms notes will help me to know exactly which question the embassy thinks I didn't answer truthfully.

Yes, everyone gets approval mail however, in some cases, applicants received the mail after the dispatch update. Some people didn't even receive the mail and when they picked up their package they saw that it was approved and got the mail after as seen in prt 7 or 8 of the thread. So let your friend pick up the package first. Even if he/she got delayed, they can always refire with the help of gurus in the house. Fear not.

Dear Team,
Any need for APPROVAL MAIL FOR those that applied via Paper route confirming their Visa was successful/approved..My friend did paper route and got this below(He did upfront medical)

. "your processed passport have been dispatched from C V O Acrra to CVAC on 22 june 2016. Contact VFS for more info.""" That's his status. Applied on 15th April, 2016"

You're right

Yes I think so....I think they calculate your total years of study in Canada to give u PGWP.

SINCE ITS CONSECUTIVE IT WILL CALCULATED AS THOUGH ITS TWO YEARS

I MAY BE WRONG THOUGH

I don't have an answer to your question but I'll advise you to be patient. I'm guessing you're applying for winter entry. I had the same issue with WES and kept worrying, in the end, WES sent them my evaluation really late but it was alright. The application deadline does not affect you because your application has already been received. Just relax and let WES finish up
tundechange:

Good morning my people!

My evaluation is presently ongoing with WES and its taking time.

I filled d online form & made payment, got a reference no, sent my certificate & transcripts via my institutions to WES, they acknowledged receipt and sent verification letters to my institutions since June 7 but up till this morning, my institutions are yet to receive WES's verification letter. Am evaluating my OND from a Poly & B.Sc from Unilag.

Could you pls run tru with me d process of evaluation with IQAS? Unlike WES, does IQAS send verification letter to school before concluding their evaluation? How much do they charge too?

Kindly reply.

Thanks

Nah, I doubt it. I only know small African stores and I don't buy from there unless I'm desperate. The one is my city isn't that great. Maybe there might be bigger markets or stores in Toronto but I don't think there are that many Nigerians in Canada for us have our own "Oshodi". Lol
GrandCommander:

Is there not a place in canada where one can buy Nigerian food in bulk just like a place called Peckham in England.?

Consider freezing the oil and wrapping the container with newspapers. I know people usually do it this way for better concealment and to avoid making a mess
Graviton2:

I think I'll drop the dairy products to be on the safe side. I'm actually considering putting the oil in an air-tight container and wrapping severally with nylon covers.
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 10:57pm On Jun 24, 2016
This is true but I always take my chances with noodles anyway. Lol @Graviton2 there you have it. Choose your battles wisely, in my opinion, milk is a no-no. That's like common knowledge, one can still form ignorance with the noodles seasoning and get away without a fine.
thesoj:
Hi TheBae. I think Khalesi wrote about this a while ago. My brother told me they threw away all his gala and noodles (because of the beef in gala, and chicken in thr noodles ingredients list) at the airport. Khalesi says they let her bring in her noodles because she separated the noodles from the seasoning sachet. The chicken seasoning is in the seasoning pack. @Graviton2, go to the Canadian Border Protection website to see the specific instructions on what you an bring in and what you can't. Cheers.

Congrats to all TRV choppers! Time to hustle for best flight deals. Wanted to share a couple of short tips that helped me find a good deal for September because prices are alot higher than they were last year.
1. If you have a US or CA card, you're better off booking on flighthub.com. sign up for an account and make some searches. After a couple of days, they'll start sending special deals to you via email.
2. Consider searching for flights that do not depart on weekends and try searching at midnight our time for good deals. Also adjust dates (dept and return, leaving or returning a day later or earlier can save you couple hundred dollars. It won't kill to get to Canada a week late if you would dodge the "peak period" highcost bullet.
3. If other options fail you, try searching for flights departing from Ghana and other neighbouring countries, this can save you up to 200k.
Others please feel free to add or correct anything as you deem fit.
Congratulations once again!

I'm concerned about the meat and dairy products. They are prohibited. Gala and milk might be a problem for you if you encounter a strict customs officer. Gala has processed meat in it. People may have succeeded in taking them through the border but you might not be so lucky. Concealment of undeclared food can lead to fines or even prosecution and you can't possibly declare items that you know are prohibited.
I'm curious about the palm oil. Did you freeze it and are you going to conceal it? @thesoj please shed more light on this
Graviton2:
Here's a few of the stuff I'll be traveling with in a few weeks..helpful advice on anything I need to add or remove from the list will be appreciated.

Scent leaves
Uziza leaves
Uziza seeds
Egusi powder
Garri
Palm oil
Gala - 10packs grin
Indomie - 10 hungry man size packs grin
Peak milk - 2refill packs
Milo - 2refill packs

Please note: all items will be properly packaged. Thank you.

If I were you, I'd state the actual tuition, add 15k for room and board, add 8k for other expenses and miscellaneous. Total would be about thirty to forty something thousand depending on your tuition. That would be the same as my funds available for duration of stay based on a 2yr stay.

I think it's obvious that he hasn't convinced the VO that the company is really going to sponsor him. I see that he did not include a statement of purpose to explain why a company that he does not own (fully or partially) would want to sponsor him. He's better off having an individual sponsor. The whole company sponsorship/account thing gets complicated when his name or relative's name is not listed as a director.
lawmerchant:

With N14M & $250K from ur sponsor, I don't know how the VO could have reach such decision. Get ur GCMS file to get a better understanding of what went on behind the scene at the Visa Office.

It can be really annoying and it truly discourages some people from coming back to help because people want to be spoonfed. Either way, just be patient and help if you can. Bless
bosypumpin:

I think I responded to something like this some couple of days back when I shared my experience as to the fact that it is possible you have to send a mail to accraimmigrations to answer your queries or proceed to do a fresh medical test.

I wonder how @thesoj , @tinuola and @thebae will be feeling wherever they at the rate peeps here just ask question and do not bother reading so as to arm themselves with right hand experience of others. To think some are going for graduates studies in Canada and behave this way?
It is annoying to say the least. Little wonder the former gurus do not bother coming angryhere to render help.

I am sure someone somewhere will also take my response personal and respond vehemently, bring it on. I am already a silent observer anyways.
Guys, haba, let us read up. It is really unfair when you ask questions that have been dealt with before

I cannot confidently make suggestions based on just the reasons he was denied alone. He was denied for travel history the first time, and several reasons the second time, I'm curious about what may have changed in his applications as well as many other details. If he already posted all necessary details, kindly direct me to the post, or better still tag him so he can post it.
By the way, I see the bigger point you were trying to make and I understand it, I agree that the money should be in Nigeria, but the sibling in Canada thing just didn't sit well with me. smiley
Mizbaby:

Ok good, so suggest a reason for denial based on purpose of visit, travel history, length of stay, family ties, employment prospects in residing country, insufficient fund of all the 3 type there. Also suggest a workable solution for him. ( He has tackled the travel history and length of stay now).
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 3:43pm On Apr 25, 2016

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 8:37am On Apr 25, 2016
I agree with Justwise, your post is very misleading. It can be an advantage because it puts less strain on his account balance. The questions about siblings' details, including address are there for a reason. So how can you suggest that him honestly providing that information as requested is oversabi? There is absolutely no reason to lie even if he didn't already admit that he had a sibling in Canada. If he gets denied, it most likely is not because he has a sibling in Canada because there are many many students here who used that to their advantage.
Mizbaby:

Then by all means proffer a solution to this guy's problem. If he applies again under the same conditions, it's most likely he will be denied again for the third time. What you are saying makes sense in theory that's all. It is never an advantage to have a relative abroad for someone going to study. If the student has enough funds, he will settle in fast, that's why they want they want to make sure you have enough money. Nobody here cares about how you are enjoying Canada, it is only your school that may even show some concern.

In his case like @segunwamiri pointed out, it may even be too late for that. They already have that information, so maybe he should just find another Nigerian based sponsor and try his luck. I have relatives in the US and one in Canada that I'm living with. I was not asked about them so I did not mention them. I know from experience it is never an advantage except for PR.

If you don't agree please kindly advise him otherwise, but if he applies again and gets denied, it's on you.

You talking about falsehood makes me laugh, it's like someone applying for a job and writes his whole life history including when he stole N5 from his mum when he was 10 yrs old. Please let us be real here.

Oh thank you Jesus!!! Finally i meet someone who schools there!

I am applying to MSVU for the September intake for MPR. However i am having challenges as to where to stay. The on-Campus accommodation is cool but expensive. Saw some rooms on kijiji but i know as a rule, one should never pay for what u haven't seen. I need ur advise pls. Rental companies are credible but expensive. I do not mind sharing a room with someone for d mean time to cut expenses. Basements too r ok. Thanks.

It's contradictory but it's there.
Keyword - "barely"
It's not impossible. Many schools wont accept a weak 2:1 without SOP and references anyway.
jaybmich:

That's contradictory, this is simple logic, if it's just a second class upper requested, why would they talk about CGPA of 4.5/5 scale? It definitely means they barely accept a weak 2" 1
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by TheBae: 5:12pm On Apr 17, 2016
It says "Second Class, Upper Division, or 4 on a 5-point scale."
jaybmich:

I think UBC specifically stated a CGPA of 4.0/5.0

Oh of course.
Every application is unique ey? If he feels the need to convince them that he's serving because of age or any study gaps, then great. Otherwise, it pays to leave the application simple and short.

I know other people who did the same. I did that because I was told that they don't really care about nysc. If you're a fresh graduate, I see no reason to overflog service.
Besides, he asked me about what I did and I simply told him that.
hayqinsbFX:
That myt have worked for you because a whole lot ofother things were in your favour..

I'll suggest he or she includes his call up, posting letter as supporting docume after stating NYSC as current employment situation

So sorry for the late reply.
I simply wrote NYSC as Employment Status and my PPA as the employer. That was all. No supporting documents or anything.
