Forget about what others are doing and face yours though i understand the intimidation but it shouldn't bother you because the future is what you are looking at and not the present. There are some of them driving a #7million SUV but don't have #5million either in Cash or Investment. There's nothing bad in buying a #3million car but before doing so,you should ensure that you have invested in so many investment opportunities and you have a very solid financial base with good ROI and not a shaky one.

Some of those guys you mentioned don't even have need for such cars but they just buy that for intimidation or to oppress people so is that not foolishness?

It is foolishness of course. But peer pressure is very effective.

Individual opinion differs...

There's a guy i met some years ago and we got so close later that same year but i never knew at that time he had such an amount of money(over a #100m) in his account and was driving volkswagen Golf 3 though a business man. But judging by the comments on this post if some were to be that guy, they should have bought a ranger rover or G wagon.

Some of the questions you should ask yourself are:
(1) What do i need this car for?
(2) Economical wise does it make sense to invest such an amount of money in this car?
(3) What value do i stand to get after i purchase this ride...etc

A young guy in his early 20's so fortunate to be a millionaire should be wise to make good decision and not to be wasteful with the resources he's fortunate to get. Imagine he or she starts investing smartly,do you know how much he would be making in future? Don't get me wrong,i am not saying is bad to buy a vehicle of #10million but you should have reasons for such before taking that decision & also consider how much investment you have to put #10million in a liability because after the vehicle leaves the dealership, depreciation starts immediately.

That is a well qualified opinion.

Honestly, it is tempting to buy a car for 3 million plus.....I mean, just look at all those young island (lekki ikoyi etc) boys just cruising about. I know a guy who is 26 and cruises an 07 range rover.

Do you live in Lagos? Highlander is an old mans car. You don't see young boys in them except they are driving their parents.

Young boys do Venza, crosstour, Lexus Rx some even have the balls to the 08 to 2012 class.

Highlander is the male version of rav 4. Some young boys drive it.

Personnally, I hate Venza- a car trying to be a jeep grin grin

I didn't really understand your post but was able to pick one or two points there. At 20 you wish to drive a 30 million Range Rover because you have 100 million in assets? Because others are doing so does not mean you should also do same. There are question you need to ask yourself before taking such action. Though you won't understand my point now but later in life you'll do. So you feel with 100 million, the person has arrived?

100 million na big money oooo cheesy cheesy cheesy

Regardless of how you view it, no automobile is an asset. It's a liability. It may be viewed as an asset in Nigeria, where people are judged by the cars they drive, but they aren't really.

In the West, no one judges you by the car you drive. No one really cares. There are millionaires who don't actually own the cars they drive. They lease them as required. Some own cars, but so modest, you wouldn't have the faintest idea of their net worth. And this is in countries where there's more sanity.

Nigeria where anything could happen, at any time, is a country where modesty should be practiced more. Cars are simply purchased MOSTLY to show off.

Are you based abroad? (UK Europe or USA)

shoppyanno: Life is about time, season & stages.
In my opinion, a 2008 Highlander will draw unnecessary attention for a man his age(24yrs) due to the kinda society we find ourselves.
In this present world we are MODESTY should be employed in all we do in order to avoid being victims of evil people.
If a 24yr old uses a 2009 highlander now, when he is 30yrs what will he use? At 40 nko?
Let him thread softly as he still has a long way to go in life

Highlander to landcruiser to range rover.

I can't advise any guy how much he should spend on a car - what I do know for sure, having his own place to live should come first. A car is a liability, not an asset.

It is an asset if it helps in your day to day business greatly.

You truly feel a 24-year-old man living with his parents, is unfortunate? Many others are struggling on their own, and with give anything to swap places for a week!

I would say this guy is privileged, not unfortunate.

I said it was unfortunate for a different reason-

If he were his own man, he would have been able to make the decision with no restrains
Car Talk / Re: What Car Should A Young Man Get? by TheBigUrban2: 3:11pm On Aug 24, 2014
Siena: My take on this...

If you're still living with your parents at the age of 24, be prepared to abide by their rules. At the age of 21, I was living on my own, and responsible for my 13-year-old sister, as our parents were deceased. My first car was a 1983 Audi 80 1.6 GL Automatic, which I purchased for £70. I could have blown big bucks on an expensive set of wheels, but as far as I was concerned, my priorities meant it wasn't the right time.

When parents advise their children to buy a cheaper, lower-profile car, it's because they want the best for them. Unwanted attention is NOT always a good thing. I have no idea if this is this guy's first car. If it is, a N3.5M car is NOT ideal. I would advise something cheaper, at least for the first 2 years.

A guy who has N3.5M to burn should NOT be living at home with his parents. He should have a crib of his own, THEN he can park any car of his choice outside. A guy who would rather spend N3.5M on a car, without a crib to call his own has seriously misplaced priorities, and definitely needs a reality check.

Bottom line - you live with your parents, abide by their rules, or move out, and feel free to blow a small fortune on a set of wheels.

Bros, I hail ooo.

You made very nice points. So how much do you feel the young man should spend on the car?

RikoduoSennin:

COOL. After looking at the thread a second time, I still try to understand the OP, is he saying what I think he is?

"Why are SMART people MORE LIKELY to be persons who 'BELIEVE THERE IS NO GOD' (Atheism)".

Is the above what he is portraying as a fact? Or Am I wrong?

Is he implying that ALL Atheist are SMART? Or Only SMART people are likely to become Atheist. How can being SMART rest solely on ones BELIEF (if there is a God or not), is that what we are calling fact?

Are we forgetting that Atheism is a religion on its own. ( It is a system of BELIEF and it has every trait other religion has).

Seriously? It is a fact that intelligent people are more likely to be atheist (or at least irreligious). Numerous studies have confirmed this. The link is in the op that you didnt read.

And here is a basic illustration for your ignorant azz;

TheBigUrban2:

"More likely" is the important phrase here.

Let me teach you basic maths and grammar.

A study of cows and intelligence
-there are 2,000 cows in Nigeria
-only 1,500 are smart
-out of the smart cows, 900 are brown and 600 are white

Following the above study of cows, I can say that intelligent cows are more likely to be brown. THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT ONLY 900 COWS OR A ONLY MINORITY OF COWS ARE INTELLIGENT
=============================================

Parallel to the cow analogy, just because intelligent people are more likely to be atheists it doesnt mean that only atheists are the intelligent people or that there are no intelligent christians.

So the 1% of atheists is no determinant of the total percentage of the intelligent people in nigeria

The verse didn't say you shouldn't pay a tithe.

Afterall, there are loads of verses in the bible that spoke about paying tithe.

That you pay a tithe doesn't mean you shouldn't give money to the needy(s).

E.g In my church, we sometimes invites less privileged or visit them and showered them with gift. cool cool

Excuse me.

Knowing that you, FrancisTony, are not rich, there is no way you can tithe 10% of your income and still afford to give to the poor.....

This is the situation with 60% of Nigerians

I can sense you, and Frosbel's frustration and pain towards tithe.

I am not a pastor, so I won't be accused of extorting money from church members.

- Tithing ain't by force, if you think it's not biblical, why not STFU and quiting paying? Is anyone holding you?

- Allow people that pays it to be. They are not complaining, why are you doing it for them?

- Tithe money is used for charity project, getting new church facilities and maintenance of church equipments by Pastors. Not all Pastors are really hungry like you think.

- I attend 'Harvest House Christian Centre Ikeja' and they pay tithe. I can attest that our pastor doesn't vandalise it.

*Our Pastors work as HR manager in MTN and he doesn't need peoples money to survive. He earns huge amount of money. He once dashed out his car to someone who ain't a member sef.

*Our assistant pastor is an Engineer by profession and works in a reputable company.

So, stop your archaeic thinking that pastors ravishes her/his members money. Smh for you.

Guilty conscience!! grin grin grin

God does not need your money or your tithe. Give to the poor and to the needy.

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?

Well, if a 24 year old Nigerian has got 3.5M to burn on a suv/crossover, why not get something flashy?
My point is...as a 24 year old, he shouldn't really be thinking about buying a papa's car-Highlander.
At his age, he should be looking at cars that will suit his profile as a young man- Honda, Toyota, Nissan products, which wouldn't cost as much as the 3.5M he intends to burn.

On the other hand, if his wish is to spend 3.5M on a ride, then he should go all out and get that ride that will really turn heads, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, or even the LR3, but definitely not a highlander!
The aforementioned brands will suit him more.
He can do better... cool

Highlander is not ann old man's car naaa.....what will you say about prado and landcruiser?

Religion-
1. A set of followed beliefs/practices
2. Organised practices and rituals
3. Deals with the spiritual
4. Worship
