My people, while I'm low key chilling for ITA and PPR I say make i ask small Kweshun....

Missisiaga vs York which is better to live in.
Mississauga and North York share the same borderline.
They are all part of the GTA and in my opinion they are all the same.
North York is the Northern Part of Toronto but used to be a city before.

The Jane and Finch section of North York is notorious for crime. Then again, this is how the Mass Media has affected the perception of a lot of Canadians. 15 years ago, my family lived in North York around Jane and Finch and we never had any issue.
There are things you only see in the Media. I have been to Harlem, New York and also to the country of Jamaica and I didn't see any drive by shooting in those places. I am sure the day I will visit Lagos, chances are I won't see any crime been committed.

I know @Thecongo meant well but this trust issue about Nigeria he won't understand.
Bro, you are walking on the streets of America at this time. I believe that you wouldn't like it if someone is looking at you as "another black guy who is about to commit a crime". Profiling is wrong and we shouldn't encourage it in anyway. Each person is an individual. Each person deserves a chance until the person himself blows it up.

Nine years ago, I joined Nairaland. My initial moniker was TheCongo. I did close it couple years ago to re-appear as TheCongo2.
So, when I first joined Nairaland, there was a debate going on in the family section.
The OP was an orphan who was appealing to the public for help.

https://www.nairaland.com/446574/greatest-challenge-orphan

A great number of people didn't believe him given that Nigerians smell scam everywhere grin
Nevertheless, I took a chance and send to the brother US $500 in two installments. (US $300 first and then US$200)
You can see from page 14, OP and other people thanking after I made my first transfer.

https://www.nairaland.com/446574/greatest-challenge-orphan/14

After that, other people on Nairaland followed and donated money to the OP. As a result of those donations, OP was able to set up a business. He opened a pharmacy. That was back in 2009-2010

And in 2017, the OP opened another thread on Nairaland to thank me and other people for what we did for him. He even announced that he was getting married. The guy was indeed genuine. He truly needed help. And my action made me feel very good as a person. I have made a chance in someone's life.

https://www.nairaland.com/3561064/where-radiance-thecongo-oj4mr231chaircover-arrowhead#52641745

I think that Nigerians are overreacting with the scam issue. You have good and bad people everywhere. Each person is an individual. We can't keep on judging everyone based on the action of few bad apples. I know that we have to be cautious but smelling scam everywhere and every time is nauseating.

Sorry for derailing the thread

Good day all,

I just stumble upon this thread and I need some help with information.

My elder sister is a citizen of the US, she and the husband are sending invitation to I and my wife for her graduation ceremony (ecxluding our 3 kids)

My I kindly know the supporting document I will need to present at the consulate from my end and also what she should send to me to accompany our documents here.
I have copy and paste the following from a visa officer, LagosNIV. Good luck

The required documents are:

International passport
2 passport photos
DS160 confirmation page
MRV Fee Receipt

Documents which are not required but are sometimes requested:
copies of the US Visa or bio-data page of the international passport of family members who have already been issued visas and who will be traveling with you
copies of the US Green Card or US Passport of family in the US who you are going to visit

Most other documents will not be requested nor looked at if offered. As a general rule if there is a document we want to see in order to make a fair decision on your case we can put the case on hold in 221g status and request that you submit the document before we make a final decision.

Nigerians cannot afford to be angry at the policy. Even we know why the policy exists. Secondly, if we had a viable national airline (rather than using them as private piggy banks), delta wouldn’t be able to hold us to ransom. We are our own worst enemies.
Then I would have to agree with your original assertion. Miss Adicie's case wouldn't stand before any court of law. Unfortunately.

TWoods:
You obviously did not understand the specific issue you were commenting on. If you did you would know that MISS Adichie is a famous Nigerian novelist and that delta (the only foreign airline with direct flights to Nigeria) has a strict policy that requires anyone who books a flight ticket from Nigeria,by credit card, to present this card in person before boarding. That is not a violation of civil rights, it is simply a fraud prevention policy.
Thanks for clarifying.

Nigerians should have been angry at the policy set in place by Delta. But, here, it seems like they got angry only because Miss Adicie was summoned to present her credit card.

I am afraid people believe that the rich and famous should be treated differently from the general public

I hate it when someone come up with the "Do you know who I am" argument to bypass a policy set in place. I will never support such a person

TWoods:
A few days ago, i read a rant from the famous Chimamanda Adichie who had to suffer the indignity of being summoned to a US airport, over an hour away, to personally present her credit card before her parents (whose tickets were purchased with her credit card) would be allowed to board an international flight. She was angry, she threatened to write a letter to the CEO of the airline, she protested, she probably wanted to yell "do you know who I am". The flight desk attendants promptly ignored her until she was ready to present her credit card. Of course, Nigerians were angry. They protested. They vowed to boycott Delta airlines. They urged Chimamanda to sue.

But frankly, I don't think Delta cares. They know that Chimamanda's suit would be promptly thrown out of court. I doubt the CEO of Delta paid any attention to her letter. Chimamanda was disappointed not to get an apology from Delta... but why should they? After all, she is simply a Nigerian - a well known land of scammers, liars, thieves and dishonest "Christians", regardless of any prestige she thinks she has.
In North America (Canada and the US) it is illegal to target an individual on the basis of his color or national origin. That is discrimination and it would open the door to a human right complaint.

However, having come accross hundreds of human rights complaints in Canada, one thing I have learned is that you should listen to both parties before jumping into conclusion. The complainant always seems to be right until the defender is heard.

In this case, Delta may have reasons to target Chimamanda Adichie other than the fact that he is of nigerian origin.

In addition to that, what make you think a lawsuit by mr Adichie would promptly been thrown out the court? It will be thrown out only if the case has no merit. And we will never know whether or not this case has merit until we evaluate all the evidence from both parties

It does cost a dime to lodge a human right complaint. One doesn't need a lawyer to do so. If mr Adichie feels like his human rights were violated he should file a complaint against Delta.

@TheCongo2....Is that your own understanding of the post?

I have made my point it is left for the poster to decide to what to do. No apologies

I said it before ... you are supporting laziness
You are encouraging illegality
This thread is all about DIY.
The US consulate has the duty to screen out travellers. They determine who should get a visa and who shouldn't. Then, the CBP does the same thing at the POE. The CBP determines who should be let into the US and who shouldn't. As for you, who are you?

You have been accusing a lot of people on this thread of trying to immigrate illegally to the States? For the most part, you can't substantiate those accusations. Have you received the executive power from the US gouvernement to screen out travellers ? If not then it is very unfortunate for you to harass complete strangers

Take a look on the VO's thread to see the difference. The vo's are very professional and they don't bellittle anyone. They answer all the questions without any form of mockery or insult. In addition to that, they are paid by the US government. Why can't you follow their behaviors ?

That is very unfortunate that you are using this forum to disrespect your fellow Nairalanders.
People of all walk of life are on the forum. And just because someone needs your help doesn't mean you should be condescending to the person. That person may as well be a senator, a lecturer, a tribal chief ... someone you may never have the courage to approach in real life.

Well it's not like they shared their POE experience here while the question is about status and what they're trying to do is illegal and you know it so it makes no sense trying to help them.
seyewest, at least for this one let's try to agree to disagree
Otg001 or oketg indicated that at the POE, a family of 4 were given permission to stay in the States for 6 months.
After 2 weeks, the wife decided to return to Nigeria with the kids while the husband stay behind.
What is illegal about that? So long as the husband doesn't go beyond the 6 months, there is nothing wrong.
I have seen that you have been throwing a lot the word illegal on many posts and you have been accusing people without any proof.
What happened to the presumption of innocence?

Time travel is PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. It belongs to the realm of science fiction and fantasies.
In 1600, it was impossible to even think that someday 2 people on 2 different continent could talk and see one another via the internet. Or a letter could be sent via fax from one continent and get to another content within a minute. Given those facts, I don't believe anything to be impossible anymore. Too bad that me and you won't be around 600 years from today.

A quick tip is to multiply the hourly wage by 2...that will give you an idea of the gross annual compensation for full time employment. Example, $15/he translates to roughly $30k a year. Similarly, $43/he translates to $86k a year.

I know computer science have different branches, but if you're into programming, both web and software. $43/hr is a joke. You can earn more than double of that as a proficient programmer with intimidating portfolios consisting of past projects. Not to talk of the flexibility too, working from home in crazy winter conditions(with employer's permission ofcourse).
Also, rather than pursuing a master degree, try venturing into learning other programming languages. Hands-on skills matter than degrees in IT
Thanks for your feedback.
I was initially misled by einsteno calculation mistake when he came up with 165K per year as base salary ($43/hr) instead of 85K.
That is why I was so surprised. But 85K per year makes much sense. I dont make 100K though grin
I can still follow your advice

In any case, I had always dream of a master degree. That dream died as I got involved with more responsibilities. But I have resolved to resurrect it this year.

Merci beaucoup
