Alhough I am not a constitution lawyer but with the furore generated by the last presidential election,I think part b Section134 subsection 2 of Nigeria 1999 constitution should be amended. According to section 134(2) “A candidate for an election to the office of President shall be deemed to have been duly elected, where, there being more than two candidates for the election- (a) He has the highest number of votes cast at the election; and (b) He has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.” AMENDMENT The clause; 'and federal capital territory' in the part b of 134(2) of the 1999 constitution should be removed Then part (c) should be included< (c) In a situation whereby no candidate or party secure ¼th (25%) of the vote cast in ⅔ of the entire 36 state of Nigeria (that is In 24). The party or candidate who score the highest number of votes and secure 25% in the highest number of states(even if it is just 18 states) should be declared the winner. |

Brazil superstar Neymar has questioned African players’ commitment to their countries despite the abundance of talents from the continent. In a tweet by Frank Khalid, a British entrepreneur, the owner of West London Film Studios, Elbrook Cash and Carry, Brazil superstar Neymar has questioned African players’ commitment to their countries despite the abundance of talents from the continent. The Paris Saint Germain forward, in his statement, said Africa was blessed with an array of stars, but added that they mostly put up good performances only for their foreign clubs, but don’t show the same commitment for their countries. Neymar, whose country Brazil has won the World Cup on five occasions, ascribed their achievement to the enthusiasm shown by South American and European players for their respective countries. “African players have talent, but they only show it to their respective clubs, not for their respective countries,” Neymar was quoted as saying by Khalid. This is why Brazil has five World Cups because African players don’t have a lot of passion to represent their countries like South American teams and the Europeans. It’s surprising because the best African players play in the best clubs in Europe.” The 31-year-old’s assertion may not be far from the truth as several Nigerian star players have been castigated for showing more commitment to their clubs than the national team. Neymar has made 124 appearances for Brazil, scoring 77 goals. In the space of 13 years, since he made his debut for the Seleção in 2010, the former Barcelona forward has only managed to win the Confederations Cup (2013) and was a runner-up in the Copa América in 2021. https://punchng.com/neymar-questions-african-footballers-commitment/

Blinken said in a speech on Friday that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a "strategic failure." Blinken said Russia is "significantly worse off today than it was before the full-scale invasion." "Today, many see Russia's military as the second strongest in Ukraine," he said. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized the Kremlin's military on Friday, saying Russia is "significantly worse off today than it was before the full-scale invasion" of Ukraine in February 2022. "The Kremlin often claimed it had the second strongest military in the world — and many believed it," Blinken said in a speech in Helsinki, Finland. "Today, many see Russia's military as the second strongest in Ukraine." In the speech, Blinken called Russia's war against Ukraine a "strategic failure" that had diminished "Russia's military, economic and diplomatic power, and its influence for years to come." Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused staggering losses to Ukrainian citizens, Ukrainian troops — and its own military. Even the leader of the Wagner mercenary group helping Russia's army has complained about a lack of support and ammo on the frontlines. While Blinken called for a stronger Ukraine and peace between the two countries, he rejected calls for a cease-fire while Russia controls the land it grabbed in eastern Ukraine. "It would legitimize Russia's land grab," Blinken said. "It would reward the aggressor and punish the victim." Russia is currently facing an onslaught of counterattacks. UK intel said on Friday that Russia struggling between using its resources to fight in Ukraine or against small-scale militant attacks within its own borders. https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-secretary-state-blinken-said-150900803.html

With the signing of a progress acknowledgment statement between BUA Group and Axens of France for the former’s proposed 200,000barrels per day refinery in Akwa Ibom, the Group has expressed optimism about completing the project before 2025. With a target of between three to four years for construction, the firm noted that the refinery is expected to be operational by 2024 all things being equal. This comes as the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has commended the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for his commitment to the development of lasting relationships between French and Nigerian businesses. Represented by Franck Riester, the French Minister for Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, Marcon invited Abdul Samad to the “Choose France Summit” and said his administration is ever ready to support people-oriented and developmental projects in Nigeria. “I am very pleased to see how committed Abdul Samad Rabiu is for the refinery and in the space of philanthropy,” Macron said. Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, Rabiu stated that the refinery, when fully operational, would reduce the huge cost of transporting crude oil offshore, refining it and bringing it back into the country. Rabiu added that the decision to site the refinery in Akwa Ibom – Southern Nigeria was strategic due to the huge availability of raw materials and its proximity to export petroleum products to regional countries. He added that the multi-billion-dollar integrated 200,000 bpd refinery and petrochemicals plant will be producing Euro-V fuels and Polypropylene for the domestic and regional markets. BUA explained that Axens was selected, after a comprehensive process, for its advanced technology licenses, basic engineering, catalysts and adsorbents, proprietary equipment, training and technical services. BUA Group Chairman and CEO, Abdul Rabiu, said: “The refinery and petrochemicals project is in line with BUA’s vision to develop local capacity in key industries where we can add the most value and raw materials can be sourced locally. Once completed, this RFCC-based complex will produce high-quality gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel meeting Euro-V specifications for the Nigerian and larger regional markets. “Also, it will produce propylene, an essential component for the petrochemicals industry used in polypropylene-based plastics and packaging. This project will help in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuels and petrochemicals.” Riester, during a visit to the BUA Group office in Lagos, where he handed over a personal invitation from President Macron to Abdul Samad Rabiu to attend the Choose France Summit in June in Paris representing business leaders from Nigeria and Africa, acknowledged that the project is advancing on schedule. https://guardian.ng/business-services/bua-to-complete-200000bpd-refinery-before-2025/
