Every religion preaches justice. And I beleive that no Muslim will allow a Christian-Christian ticket.

PoliticsMade Mistake As President When Picking My ‘number Two’- Obasanjo by thedio(op): 9:16pm On Jun 25, 2022
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, said he made two mistakes, which included the choice of his ‘number two’ ahead of the 1999 presidential election.

Obasanjo said the second mistake was his refusal to accept an asylum when he was told that the late Head of State, Sani Abacha, wanted to arrest him, the action, he said, could have led to his death .

Obasanjo became democratically elected President in 1999 while the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, was his vice president.

Obasanjo, who did not mention Atiku in his statement, said it was a mistake he made in good faith, but was saved by God.

The former president spoke on his life and achievements both as a military Head of State and as a civilian President.

Obasanjo stated this, while answering questions posed by students from selected secondary schools that participated in the finals of the National Exhibition and Awards organised by Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship.

The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, featured presentations and exhibitions of some products made by students of the participating schools.

The former president, while interacting with the students during a questions and answers session, said he had many mistakes, which he could describe as genuine mistakes in his life but God made him to overcome.

He said, “One of the mistakes I made was picking my number two when I wanted to become the President. But because it was a genuine mistake, God saved me.

“The second one was when Abacha wanted to arrest me. When he wanted to arrest me, I was told by the American ambassador that they would arrest me and that America had asked that I should be given an asylum. I said ‘No’. It could have been a mistake because I could have lost my life.

“I will say there are many things that could have been a mistake but God saved me from them all.”

While speaking on opportunities for the youths to take over the mantle of leadership in the country, Obasanjo said youths can never come into power, if the current trend continues.

He said with the “Not Too Young to Run campaign, and you can see that those that are contesting now are between 70 and 80 years old, how can the youths run?”

He added, “Another thing inhibiting youth from running is the amount of money involved in going into politics. I hope that things should not continue like this.

“I was 39 years old when I became the Military Head of State. Twenty years later, I came back as civilian president, but those there now do not want to allow the youths. If things continue like this, I do not know how you can come in.”

The former president also tutored the students that they should imbibe religious tolerance.

He advised them not to see their own religion as superior to that of another person.

Nigeria’s iron rules of power divination
Obasanjo said, “I have no right to say what another man believes in is inferior to mine. If God had wanted all of us to be of the same religion, he would have made it so, and since He did not make it so, no person should attempt to make it so.

“Young people should learn at a very early stage in life that if there are five religions in the world, that is how God wants it to be. If there are ten, that is how God wants it. All religions originate from the same source.

“If you are a Muslim and you did not live the way God wants you to live, you cannot enter Aljannah. If you are a Christian and you did not live the way God wants you to live, the same thing, you will not enter paradise.

“If this is the basis of religion, it is doing the right thing for the benefits of mankind, you don’t have to condemn any person because of what he believes.

“I do not believe that any religion is superior to mine and I don’t believe that mine is superior to another person’s beliefs. I will not allow any person to cast aspersions on my religion and will not do same for another person. Practise your religion the way God wants you to do it and don’t condemn another person.”

Welcoming participant at the event, the Chairman of SAGE Nigeria, Agwu Amogu, said the programme was to celebrate the creative energies and commitments of teen entrepreneurs who see the challenges in the communities as their responsibilities.

He said, “SAGE is an acronym for Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship. It is an international programme initiated at the California State University Chico USA in 2002 and currently operational in over 32 countries across all the continents of the world.

“It offers secondary school-age young people a hands-on learning process on how to create wealth, help others and their communities.”

Amigu said since the introduction of the program in Nigeria in 2006, it has shown that it is a potent strategy and model for educational reform, youth re-orientation, job creation and poverty alleviation and multi-cultural integration

According to him, Nigeria urgently needs a new paradigm for education.

“The new paradigm must provide students with a chance to learn while solving community problems and immediately applying what they have learnt in the classroom by actually doing something great.

“We now live in a world where any country can compete effectively with others based on the creative imagination of its human capital. There is no better place to stoke the fire of imagination than in the young people. And that is where SAGE comes in.

“SAGE is about creating value. Students are encouraged to create something of value in their communities by applying what they learn in the classroom and testing it in the ultimate laboratory – the free market,” he said.

Amogu added, “We firmly believe that Nigeria can be a world leader in providing potent human capital to the rest of the world; setting a benchmark for other countries to follow.

“Having won the SAGE World Competition 8 times in the last 12 years, I have no doubt in my mind that Nigerian young people are one of the most energetic and enterprising in the world and they can quicken our rise to a global super power status.”

The SAGE chairman said winners of this year’s competition will represent Nigeria in the SAGE World Competition holding in Netherlands in August, 2022.

Now it is not enough that a Muslim wants to continue after Buhari, they are still proposing a Muslim Muslim ticket in a country with equal number of Christians and Muslims.. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE...

SUMMARY OF BISHOP WALE OKE SERMON ON SUNDAY AS SHOWN ON NTA
Thou as a Muslim I don't support a Muslim Muslim ticket. We all know its not fair in a secular state like Nigeria but the fact is those pastors are part of the problem we r facing in this country because of their personal gain.
I read about Bishop Oyedepo outburst about the corruption in Buharis govt and I can't help but smile.
When Jonathan was hobnobbing with him he could not see corruption then, during Obasanjo regime, his neighbour in otta he could not see corruption but when cash stop flowing from PDP Wing his eyes became clear.
They r just creating hatred and dividing us along religious line for their personal gain.
Only Bishop Wale Oke can tell us how much he has made from Gov Seyi Makinde's regime why won't he cry when he has tasted the honey.
They r all after their pocket,I can't wait for Bishop Wale Oke to start campaigning for seyi or criticise the next gov.

I will take Oyedepo serious if PDP regain power and he keep on his activism calling.

Epidemic looms as refuse overruns Anambra roads

Residents and motorists in Anambra State are going through challenges as a result of the mountainous refuse dumps that have taken over major roads and streets of the state.

This situation is also worsened by the current rainfalls which have resulted in floods scattering the wastes on the roads, thereby causing delays for both vehicular and non-vehicular movements.

Our correspondent, who went round major cities such as Onitsha, Nnewi, Nnobi, Obosi, Ekwulobia, Obodo-Ukwu, Aguata and some parts of Awka on Saturday, observed that the refuse dumps in these areas had started oozing suffocating stench, while people covered their nostrils.

Clogged gutters were seen everywhere and refuse was recklessly dumped in some of the streets as it was gathered that the relevant authorities have not attended to the refuse for over three months now.

The heavy rains on Saturday did not also help matters on the Onitsha-Owerri road, as heavy floods dragged the waste to the road.

The refuse covered the lane leading to the Upper Iweka axis by the Enamel bus stop.

As a result, vehicles coming to and fro Onitsha had to share only one lane at the Enamel axis, thereby stretching a less than five-minute drive to Upper Iweka to over an hour.

The situation at the Nkpor road by Limca bus stop was very pathetic as the refuse had covered the whole portion of the road leading to the People’s Club Street, a situation that has forced the residents to walk on the refuse as they go to their various destinations, vehicles cannot also enter into the street.

A resident of the area identified as Mrs Josephine Uche, lamented that the situation had forced the people of the area to start relocating, adding that residents had resorted to shutting their doors and windows permanently in order to avoid the bad smell.

Uche lamented that despite the fact that residents paid waste bills every month, the waste managers had not attended to the waste for over three months now.

A transporter, who plies the Obodo-Ukwu axis in the Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr Ogbonna Awuka, said there had been very poor management of waste in the state in recent times, especially in the semi-urban centres, lamenting that “mountainous” heaps of refuse adorning the streets were almost chasing people away on a daily basis.

“This just to create room for epidemic; the rains are here and it is a period where epidemic manifests very fast. Clearing of refuse is not rocket science, I wonder why they have allowed it to degenerate into this level,” Awuka said.

However, the Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu, told our Sunday PUNCH that plans were in place to tackle the refuse problems, stressing that various measures had been adopted and that their implementations would soon start.

“The issue of waste is surmountable and we urged the people to be patient as the government is working round the clock to ensure competent organisations are engaged to handle the situations

You are very correct. If not for the Islamic terrorism and the body language of the northern Muslims to turn Nigeria in for Islamic rule, an average Christian doesn't care about religion as a factor. But see how Buhari has used his religious bigotry to embolden fulani terrorists for islamic propagation. People are hungry and suffering. They want economic emancipation.
To me Buhari is not the problem PDP is the problem. Remember their campaign again buhari in 2011,they said buhari was coming to islamize Nigeria and pple bought the lie till today they r still saying it but I av not seen a Christian converted to Muslim by buhari.
They av started again now that now that northern Muslim will not vote a northern xtian b4 u know it,it will become a national anthem

You are very correct @the bolded.
But a muslim-muslim ticket would be worse.
I see the VP slot being handed to Yakubu Dogara on a platter of gold.
He is about the only Christian politician from the north east with a reasonable fan base.
Tinubu's running mate must come from the north, precisely the northeast.
Picking someone from the northwest is bad for APC.
Picking a northern Christian is bad for APC.
Picking a Muslim to make a Muslim-Muslim ticket is bad for APC.
Some people would say Abiola & Kingibe won the 1993 election. They forget that 1993 is nearly 30 years ago and the religious polarisation at that time is insignificant compared to what is obtainable in today's Nigeria.
This presidency will be so easy for Atiku to win.
I've said it severally and I'll say it again.
Buhari never wanted Tinubu to emerge as the flag bearer for this very reason.
A southern Christian would have been a better option so a north-eastern Muslim would easily be picked as the VP.
But Tinubu's greed had its way and Atiku becomes Nigeria's next president.
Congratulations AA.
Thou I will not support a Muslim Muslim ticket but I believe Tinibu can still win with Muslim Muslim ticket.
Majority of votes come from Muslim dominated states kano,Kaduna,borno....pple from those state would vote massively for him. The only problem is south south and south east which is glaring from the APC primary election that they r not going to vote for Tinubu even if he pick a pastor as a running mate. South west don't av much problem with religion even if they do they can't leave their son and follow Atiku cos of campaign against Muslim Muslim ticket

Osibanjo is a controlled opposition positioned by apc and tinubu to deceive Nigerians that the primaries were free and fair and a trick for Nigeria to elect another Muslim president. It is a political game.

The trick is simple, everyone know tinubu will win the primaries easily, but since tinubu is a muslim, he will get backclash from religious sensitive people among Christians that a Christian need to contest because buhari is a Muslim, here comes osibanjo (Christian) who is playing the role well in collaboration with apc and tinubu, they allowed every one to contest in the primaries to claim it is a "free and fair election" even though they know the winner, Tinubu who is a muslim wins the primaries in a so called free and fair election.

The trick still goes on further to campaign, osibanjo will be used to bring in the Christian votes.

Tinubu wins, Nigerians think they voted who they want, after all, i have a pvc but it was a political trick from day 1
