Your smallie of 1.8kg reminds me of this our smallie. ![]() She's 4 weeks old now, and still looks like a day old chick. All her mates are at 1 to 1.5kg mark.

Make sense o. 4kg in 6 weeks. Try find out how much they'll offer in the market, in case you want to go commercial. |
It is a very beautiful city |
venger:You and I know the government are fools, say something else. |
@ stagger Good evening boss man. I've gone through your posts and I have no doubt that you have a wealth of knowledge in the Agribusiness sector. I'm currently testing the waters and practicalising with a thing or two, but I think I'm doing it more from the passion angle. I want someone who can put a touch of realism, guidance and hopefully help me monetize this hobby. I'm very sure it's you sir. Can I have your watsapp contact sir? |
olushowunm:You don't finish what you start. |
okoroemeka:Impossible is nothing. If our forefathers were told about the features of many hybrid seeds, they'll swear on their lives that it's not possible to achieve such outrageously high yields in such ridiculously short periods of time. While you and I are settling into our current realities, some are working tirelessly to redesign and dictate what reality will be. Someone once said "if you think it can't be done, then get out of the way of those who are doing it" With all due respect, Let's always have open minds. |
It's called a broad fork, I found out about it 8 years ago. It's an European concept. Very good at eliminating the back pain from using hoe. I contacted a welder to help fabricate it, he made it but it's was so heavy that carrying it alone required full strength. I just wasted my money. I'll give you a try once I'm ready to cultivate on a larger scale. Light and durable is what I want. |
Your farm is in your mouth. Audio farmer. You think farming is mathematics. |
At 3 weeks my plants are about 6- 9 inches tall |
JeAgro477 I'm also following the progress quietly. Can I get some of your 40 days bean seeds? I also planted some beans for a trial, in my tiny compound.
|
JeAgro477 I empathize with you. It's devastating after all the sweat, toil, money and time you've invested in this venture, only to be betrayed and ruined by someone you showed mercy to. I have been meaning to start my farm too but this herdsmen issue has been worrying my Mum. She keeps advising me to focus on livestock and leave cropping for when sanity returns to the country. Sadly many people do not know that this herdsmen threat is very evident, and it's threatening food security in the country. The OP for crime section of Nairaland is probably a city boy, he may not give a hoot about your problems. Please post this in Agric section too. I believe the admin Pavore who's an Agric enthusiast may be willing to push it to front page. |
Nbotee:The matter weak me. If a whole minister In the corridor of power is crying like a girl. What can you and I do about it? This people don't know what their roles are for |
Better farmer. I'm happy our chicks are doing well. ![]() |
I was looking forward to the outcome of the project. I empathize with you. Generally our fellow countrymen are the devil's incarnate. You can be unbelievably nice to them, but it doesn't mean they won't plot to cheat you at the first instance they get. And they do it without any form of conscience or compassion. It hurts me mentally to think of things like that. Trust me, I've also had similar experiences. May I suggest this; >Putting a manager in charge of a new farm operation is tantamount to fattening up the manager. You should first be involved with the production process, from start to finish. Take lots of record. Even experiment with some section of whatever it is you're producing (Livestock or crop). This way, you can resonably predict what needs to be done, how and when it is to be done. A manager should only come into play when you are expanding and unable to manage the operations of the staff alone. Even at that, you have to monitor and guide him just as you'll do with a child. Don't forget that the success or failure of your investment lies mostly with him. ===== On a side note, as your harvest no reach to sell, Are you going to store it and be making soybean milk ![]() |
poseidonsaiz: tell me you're joking. If you truly believe this, please my brother. Change your thought process today, Because I don't want to read someday that you died while stowing away. When people stow away, it's usually in places like the Ship's engine room or in the cargo hold In the position where they're sitting, they stand no chance. They can easily fall off the rudder and be drawn into the massive propellers. Let's even say they survive, The ship's crew usually search the ship before they leave port, then they'll stop some miles away from the harbour (Trying to fool any stowaways into thinking they've arrived their destination) Here they do a second search. They third search is done just before they get to their next port. The reason being that stowaways are usually a costly and persistent problem for sea faring vessels. The penalties are usually very steep if a vessel records discovering a stowaway. Most Captains like to kill stowaways, so your chances of being found and clothed, then given a job, some pocket money and all that nonsense you wrote up there is less than 0 |
At Apapa, the ships crew usually shout before they leave. "come out black man, come out Nigerian man" The issue of stowaway is a very serious one in Lagos. Most of this guys are port- rats. They came from places like Edo and work and live around the sea port, looking for half an opportunity to elope to the West, even if it may cost them their lives. They are lucky that the high seas Code has been refined of recent. In the past, when stowaways are found, the ship captains usually throw them overboard, since no body will be looking for them. It's a stupid fate to resign one's self to. |
What were the challenges and hoe were you able to overcome them. I hope you had a good harvest? |
OP carry on, nothing do you. |
Too many scammers loitering around the agric page now. Looking to harvest the hard work put in my honest diligent farmers. Hmmm, I no fit blame una Sha. When e be say your forefathers in the corridors of powers (Government) are setting very bad examples. God help us |
Yes o, my professor. Man wey Sabi. He made life good for us back in school. Infact, I graduated under him in 2018. It's no surprise to see that he's going from strength to strength. Lekingson888 are you also an alumni of the great FUNAAB? Power to FUNAAB!!!! |
Willie2015:This advice is spot on. Although, it may be very challenging to raise cattle in an intensive system, and still make good returns. First do apprenticeship with people who have been doing that, as it stands I've only heard of one farm in the east. There you can get a mentor. There's a ratio of Acreage per cattle you intend to raise. Example is 1 and 1/2 acre per cow. I can't remember again, but you'll need large pieces of land. (Many hectares) You'll have to clear the land, leaving only a few trees at strategic spots for the cattle to take shade when it's sunny. (You will also need to find a way to get water to them while they rest, You can cut a large GP tank in half, and use hose to pass the water down here) As Willie2015 said, you'll need good secured facility for them to stay at night and when it's rainy. The local vigilante must be your most paid employees. Cattle rustling is a very big threat, they can even kill whoever is on the farm at that time just to perpetrate this evil act. You also need to have a good running relationship with the mentor, so you can always call when you experience challenges. (Very inevitable) Also note that cows hardly ever give birth to more than one calf in a year. So expanding your farm will be a real exercise in patience. You must be more patient than Mahatma Gandi. You'll also need ear tags for record keeping purpose. It's very very essential in cow breeding, and their health record must be kept just like dog breeding. Sourcing for cheap feeds like PKC, Brewers waste, maize chaff and the likes can help supplement their feeding, but it'll cost you a ton of money to transport them Everytime to your farm. Cows eat a lot of food daily in Kilos. Another cheap feed can be plating maize in an hydroponic system, the maize grows within 10 days, and 50kg seeds can translate to about 500kg hydroponic fodder, meaning more food at lesser cost. But this isn't a stand alone feed. Above all you need Grace and plenty of money to tackle issues as they arise. So are you still game? |
adeyemo001:Hello Chief, I'm interested in taking two females and 1 male. Since goats usually birth 2 kids, If I'm to raise them till they reproduce, do you take your goat and one of the kid back and I get just one of the kid. Please note that they'll be tethered throughout, because I don't have much land space, what will you suggest as a cheap source of feed ? Enlighten me pls. |
GlorytoGod:You are yet to add me bro. Where is your farm located, I want to know if it won't be too cost to source for my feed from you. And I'm interested in the offtaking arrangements. |
@. Kennethfranc any update? |
Madas1986:he may want to eat it is it your business? |
Abdulazeez99: Why is it common to read things like "The Chief of Umukulu kingdom is dead"? Isn't it too harsh?, Why not use softer words like "he is late, or he passed away" |
I'm happy you didn't record any mortality. Correct farmer. Please share the name of the app. |
You are funny o, using lantern as heat source. ![]() |
