happytbaby: @ Emeriem
I am happy your plans are working out, I actually had El paso in mind when I made the estimate of N1.4m in my post quoted below. Thank God you were able to save costs on Tickets. Where is your POE sef? May God go with you.
Please always ask other mamas for cheap deals. If you need to go around, learn the bus routes or go out with other mamas so you can share taxi costs . I hear you can pre-order a free pick up to the mall.
Macy's always have 20 percent off on Saturdays. I prefer them for baby clothes cos you don't have to sift through their stock to nice stuffs. Always go the sales rack first.
I don't know if there is a Carter's shop in el paso but I have also seen crazy sales there.
For your accessories, Like shoes, bibs, sleepsuits etc, I think Burlington is cheaper. For main clothes however, you will have to look through so many to pick out the nice ones and they are not necessarily cheaper than Macy's.
If I remember any other cost-saving mechanism I will let you know. Love your post. Also look out for coupons, for food, for clothes, for baby things, anything! Ain't no shame in the game, most Americans never pay full price for anything. Register online with all the baby stores so you can get alerts for their sales and discounts as well as get coupons and offers. |

yemi16: thanks for the advice, if you read my story well...i 'd mention that i already bought replacements for the items i didnt intend taking out. Its only common sense that if i already pre-informed her about it....even before buying a new one...By the way...its my house, my property...my money....and my elder brother we talking about here.... If she calls her sis to pick things without informing me and i find out....i dont even think i 'd be angry...coz it her SISTER...!!...as long as i know we dont neeed the item or there is a replacement for the item.
thanks anyway! The day you married her it became yours and hers sha. |
Family › Re: Help!!..did I Marry The Wrong Lady? by TheLeakyTribe(f): 9:24am On Feb 18, 2016 |
yemi16: I courted her for about 1yr..before we got married 6months ago.. Meanwhile while courting, she had told me she left her former relationship because the guy she dated then was like the breadwinner to his family catering for all his siblings and she felt quite uncomfortable with it....
I didnt read much to it coz in my mind it happended to my favour and i already have a well to-do siblings...as at my courtship period though...
Shortly before we got married, my elder brother who also just had a baby lost his job....and i had to support him and his family on a need basis especially with their little cute baby boy growing but i noticed my my then fiancee didnt just like it at all....
After we got married....i got a great job with this good pay and was very comfortable....meanwhile my brother search for job was to no avail....and his wife was on maternity leave.
To cut long story short, each time my brother comes to me for help....and i send him money, my wife complains that i larvish my money on my brother...that he should go and get a job and not rely on me always...we would quarrel seriously for days/weeks before time eventually settles things...
Just last few days ago....we were relocating to a new area within town and i called my brother to pick up a few stuffs (electronics, household items) i know i wouldnt or i planned replacing with a new one......He came and picked them up as i had informed him....After he left, my wife let hell loose....she went completely mad and we had a big quareel...she even called my brother to return a few stuffs he took even when i already bought the replacements...
I am used to going back to her to apologize just to let peace reign ...but this time i have had it upto my neck..!!!!... I dont intend apologizing one bit as i am sure i did her no wrong......
Now i am thinking deeply.....did i really overlooked the signs...?...did i really marry the wrong lady??....
Please i need your advise on how best to manage this...
Admin..pls help to update this on fp..i really need lots of advice at the moment.
Thanks. I'm just wondering if you tell her before doing these things you've mentioned. Not to ask for permission but because she's your partner and should be a part of decisions you make even to support your brother. If you never told her and just called your brother to pick up stuff, would you have been cool with it if you got home one day to see she sent the same stuff to her parents or siblings without informing you because 'you were gonna replace them anyway'? Bottom line Communicate. Treat your spouse like you would want to be treated, she's in your life for the rest of your life! |

Cobiss: Hello, pls I have a question/need confirmation. 1. My visa is in my maiden name and will expire in July while my EDD is June, pls will it affect the duration CBP will give me? 2. My passport that is in my maiden name expires this February and I want to renew it, renewing my passport in my married name, does it change my standing with the embassy for future visa applications? (I ask because I have always applied together with my family and we haven't been denied visa). Instead of drop box will I have to go for an interview? Pls anyone with experience on this should clarify me. Thanks in advance. If I understand your question correctly your visa expires in July but your present passport expires this month? You would like to change your passport name to your married name but that leaves your visa in your maiden name ba? 1) duration of stay is the prerogative of the CBP officer and has nothing to do with your name as stated by Lady Guinivere. 2) for my Dropbox renewal last month I changed my name to my married name (previous passport was in my maiden name. When you fill the visa application change your surname and put the old name as other names you've gone by or something like that, you'll see it on the application form. If you would rather not renew the visa now, I think you can still change your name and go with your marriage certificate and affidavit of change of name or better yet notify the embassy of your change of name and passport. (I do not know this part for a fact but it should be fine if you had declared your marital status even in your previous application) |

Business › Excess Charges: Customers Unite Over No Banking Day, March 1st 2016 by TheLeakyTribe(op): 9:35am On Feb 17, 2016*. Modified: 9:55am On Feb 21, 2016 |
A wave of protests is brewing in Nigeria’s banking industry as the Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON) is calling Nigerians for a “No Banking Day” protest on March 1, when no customer is expected to transact any banking business to drive home their displeasure over excessive bank charges. The foundation in a petition signed by its President, Sola Salako, and made available to Daily Sun, also accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of not doing enough to stop banks from exploiting customers. The protest comes as a fallout of over 10 identifiable charges associated with banking activities currently raising concerns among customers. The charges, in no particular order, include the maintenance fees, which some banks are now charging monthly on current accounts and Value Added Tax (VAT) on virtually every transaction by customers, including SMS. There are also charges for transfers both online and over the counter, remote-on-us (charges incurred for using other banks’ ATM in withdrawing money more than three times in a month) as well as the recently introduced stamp duties charge. In the petition, however, Salako bemoaned the high level of exploitation, saying that bank customers, for many years, have been subjected to series of poor and unsatisfactory transaction and relationship terms. The CAFON boss called on Nigerians to participate in the “No Banking Day” holding on March 1, 2016 when bank customers will shun all banking services to protest excessive bank charges. The petition stated: “Dear Nigerian bank consumer, for many years now, consumers of banking services have been subjected to series of poor and unsatisfactory transaction and relationship terms. “We have endured excessive charges, illegal fees and unfair contracts that only protect the bank but do not protect the consumers. Banks debit our accounts at will for charges we never agreed to or were not aware of; they charge us for every little service; we pay for getting our statements; introduction letters; and now, some banks are charging N200 for the use of deposit and transfer forms! “Under the current CBN management, abolished fees are being reintroduced. “ATM withdrawals that were free now cost N65 on 3rd withdrawals. We pay N1,000 for debit card issuance and renewals; we pay N105 for every online transfer; and they still charge N105 as Annual Debit Card Maintenance and now, a new Stamp Duty charge of N50 on every credit of over N1,000 has just been introduced. “COT that was supposed to end finally in 2016 is now being reintroduced as 1 per cent of every withdrawal purportedly as Monthly Current Account Maintenance Fees! “This is unacceptable! The fact is, consumers are being exploited by all the banks and CBN is turning a blind eye to these exploitations. We cannot continue to endure these exploitations!” “That is why Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON), a consumer rights NGO, is calling consumers to join us in protest of banking exploitation by declaring Tuesday, March 1, 2016 as ‘No Banking Day!’ “Our Demands are: We want bank charges reviewed downwards; banks must clear fees with consumers before debiting our accounts; bank forms and contracts must be reviewed to include more protection for consumers; consumer complaints must be resolved promptly and satisfactorily; CBN must review the new Stamp Duty Charge, Account Maintenance Charge and Debit Card Maintenance Fees. “We urge all consumers to boycott all banking services in protest of these excessive charges and policies. That means on Tuesday, March 1, don’t visit any bank or branches to transact any business; don’t use your ATM from 12a.m-12 midnight on March 1; don’t log in to any of your accounts online and don’t do any transfers from 12am-12 midnight; don’t make any online payments from 12am-12 midnight; don’t issue any cheques or banking instruments dated March 1, 2016. “Avoid doing any financial transactions on March 1 but if you must, avoid the banks! We can all commit to observe a ‘No Banking Day’ protest to press home our demands. After all, if we don’t patronise them, they can’t be in business. “Please sign this petition if you agree to join the protest and share with your friends and family until we have mass awareness so everyone can observe the ‘No Banking Day’ protest. It is not right, so let’s use our rights!”

It's becoming clear that anyone planning a foreign trip may either have to buy forex on the black market or use their naira cards abroad and deal with the exchange rate that the bank uses.
Please could people who are already using their naira cards abroad enlighten us on the charges (Dollars, Euros and Pounds) so we can know whether to port banks and obtain new Mastercards for our respective trips.
Just share your bank and the charges (per dollar, Euro or Pounds) and where you're using the card. God bless you. |

Oh my! I hope and pray this isn't the new position . What a time to be planning a trip. Went to Sterling Headquarters today. They said the reviews are as suggested by CBN. They weren't able to do any moneygram transactions today sef. The guy said they only did one the whole of last week and today their server was down. One puzzling thing he said is that moneygram transactions are now limited to one transaction per quarter. I hope I heard wrong oh please did anybody hear this? I'm going back tommorow. Meanwhile exchange rate is now 345 at black market. God help us. Who knows whether it's just better to buy now before we begin talk 400. Even though my trip is in March.
