Programming › Re: I'm About To Start Applying For Remote Jobs. Any Tips? by TheManOfTheYear(op): 9:50am On Mar 14, 2022 |
DrLevi: Don't let all you focus be on a "remote" job. Remote which I feel translates to "foreign".
Just get a job, any job.
The experience of having previous work would help you land a foreign one faster than going from a nothing to a $$$$ role. Sure, it can happen but let's not kid ourselves here, the local marketplace is a more pleasant place than the international one, you don't want to know what competition is out there. You also would already have learnt some basic concepts like how to smash interviews, to negotiate compensation etc. Fidgeting about when the opportunity of a foreign job presents itself would only hurt you as you would be learning from opportunities you're suppose to be smashing.
So apply for all jobs, local and foreign and take what feels right, build your skill, learn some more and set yourself up for bigger opportunities. Just because "remote" is a popular word out there and should be your focus doesn't mean it is that easy to come by.
Personal advice though. 1. You're more likely to get that role if you ask for a lot more than you actually hope to be paid. 2. Sell yourself, but never oversell yourself. If you need more practice, then take time and get more practice. Trust me, you don't want to be incompetent while on a deadline and a scrum master on your neck on the status of a ticket. You would hate yourself. 3. Build actual products, not typical Todos and calculators. Make your portfolio website sometime unique and filled with unique projects. 4. Conversational skills is everything. A little joke here and there but an air of professionalism and a clear cut show of knowledge(you know your stuff) can help you more than your portfolio can. One thing you want to do is win the heart of the employer by also the team. If your team doesn't like you, e don be for you.
Wishing you luck out there. This is really helpful.. Yes I built some real life applicable projects.. I also have a few open source merged PRs... My greatest fear is the interview process. I've been brooding the thought of practicing some DSA just in case. About remote, I actually hope not to work for any Naija firm, their salary just isn't attractive even for a junior.. But yes, I will keep my mind open to all type of jobs. Thanks sir |

Loewe: I don't have one in particular. I'd recommend YouTube above all... E get why.
You can watch 2-3 typical interview experience videos and then check LinkedIn or any job site for requirements for Junior Dev roles. The questions would mostly be tailored to the specific requirements advertised in each job offer. . . So you gotta be smart. Sure this works. Thanks for the tips |

Loewe: Don't get materials bro, watch YouTube videos and learn from other people's experiences. Interview questions aren't pen on paper...
I'm still learning as well but I know where to look for interview experience so I am not scared at all...Fullstack dev here! Awesome, do you know any job preparation sites? |
Programming › Re: I'm About To Start Applying For Remote Jobs. Any Tips? by TheManOfTheYear(op): 9:25am On Mar 14, 2022 |
Loewe: It's simple- you would simply fail most interviews as the questions would come from a very technical and experienced stand point.
Junior dev is accurate. As long as you know what you're doing, I reckon you will land one soon. All the best. Thanks for the encouragement. To be honest, I get scared of technical interviews, but if I can be given materials to prepare for, I could scale through any one. |

airsaylongcome: The recruitment for Senior Developer roles are very rigorous. Most local devs (who are often self-trained) lack the experience or competence to withstand the rigour. Obviously if you have experience working in developing enterprise level code then of course highlight that. Okay I get it. Do you know what the recruitment for junior devs is like? |

Hi people, I've been learning web development at a slow pace since 2019 because of school wahala. I graduated late last year, by then I had already learnt HTML, CSS and JS. This January, I picked up React and so far, I've built about 4 solid projects.
Although, I've been taking some technical writing gigs which I use to hold body and soul together. Now I want to start applying for remote jobs. I need tips on how interview processes are like. Do they ask DSA stuffs? How do I structure my CV? I'm currently building my portfolio website.
On the side, I'm learning Solidity for blockchain too, but still in beginners phase |

Even me that is a Junior would certainly not work for any useless Naija company. They are always not remote-friendly, plus the usual slavery work with low perks, and poor potential for growth. |

BlaqFaze: There's nothing there ..the first one was asking for a dev good in Flutter or React Native...
The second one was asking for a backend node.js dev...
So what's all the fuss about E be like you get Apollo for eye. So a backend Node.js Dev should know Laravel,PHP and Flutter abi. |

dominique: How come the wife's kidneys are a biological match but none of his family members are? Not even one? None of his family wants to sacrifice their kidneys they now wants to force the wife to do it. Would they allow their own son to surrender one of his kidneys for his wife? Going by your logic, is the wife no also family? Infact, is she not supposed to be his 'next-of-kin'? Nuclear and immediate family member? Your logic is flawed. I don't blame the wife though, everything in life is a matter of choice. |

spartan117: Hey guys, I just registered for Udacity's Blockchain development nano degree program. Will appreciate advise from experienced Blockchain developers. Thanks. Started mine too, although I'm coming from a JS background, so it shouldn't be that hard to switch. The whole space is overwhelming, so much concepts to learn. I started with the basics of how the blockchain works, the blockchain terms, now I'm diving into Solidity code for ethereum smart contracts. Solidity is amazing so far, very JS-like but it changes really fast as I've observed. Oh well. What IDE do you use? |

The word in the bible holds true for many Nigerians... My people perish for lack of knowledge
A lot of people just live on this earth without understanding their environment....
Nigeria and the Government is the cause of everything wrong with them and their lives ....
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39338671/us-gas-prices-skyrocketing-future/..
Due to the sanctions the USA and its Allies are leveling against Russia the second largest producer of crude oil ....The cost of all the components of crude oil has gone up by as much as 50% in majority of countries that import stuffs like Aviation fuel, diesel and petrol....
In Nigeria... unlike sensible countries.... petrol is still been subsidies but kerosene and diesel is not and therefore when there is an increase in the open market....it shows here....
Nigerians should learn to seek for the right information instead of just shouting up and down like fools without knowledge cursing themselves and their country...
The bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge....what you don't know will make everyone know you are a fool
But if Petrol can be sold in the USA that has oil just like majority of Nigerians claim they have for $2-$3 per litre which is approximately 950-1350 naira per litre... I don't understand why we still selling at 165 naira per litre ....
It's suicide and we are killing ourselves gradually.... So in your mind, you think you've done a Nobel Prize-worthy economic analysis. Before you converted the dollar to naira, did you consider things like difference purchasing power, inflation and stuffs? No. You just prefer to spill trash in your defence of a failed state. Nabi2000: Just to add to this topic that there’s no one size fits all in every aspect of life, and nobody knows the defined path, I got a job in about two months after actively applying, actually I got about 6 offers in the space of the 2 months and I still get offers till today. My commits are very minimal, in fact I only make a commit when I’m done with a personal project, I do however have a portfolio that speaks for me and even though I didn’t have experience I was/am still headhunted. If GitHub counts are the metric behind getting jobs then that is a really shallow way of employing people. My thoughts exactly, there really isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to these things. It's mainly on recruiters discretion. For the top FAANG-ish companies, learning DSA and a bit of experience would help you. For the smaller startups, it may be more of GitHub activity or projects on one's portfolio. This isn't to rule out anything. Learning DSA and contributing to open source would definitely make one stand out the most |
