vascey: If this politics section were an actual room, you'd see broken bottles on the ground, bullet holes on the walls, blood splattered on the wall...
It would be a room painted yellow, washed out (faded) yellow with a single 60W bulb dangling from the ceiling as well as a fan, those slow moving kind of fans.

The kind of room that would put the fear of god in your soul. This place is way too violent.

Oh and you'd see a poster of sincere9gerian on the wall- wanted dead or alive grin. But ofcourse, the problem is that the dude is faceless; nobody knows who he is. You would probably have some opposing (APC) snipers and special forces always on the lookout for the dude.

He sneaks in at night, shouts his comments in the cover of the night at which point, you would hear the rattling gunshots shooting anywhere and everywhere for the guy. Somehow his voice drowns out the entire gunshots.

This is a very violent place.
Too much movies dey worry you. You think all these apc e-rats get liver to fight. They are like the regular Lagos agberos. All they have is mouth to insult. Then they will clinch their fists and be jumping from left to right, shouting ahh! ahh! ahh! Oloriburuku! Yalaya! etc, etc. That is as far as they will go. They will never ever actually fight! They are cowards and noise makers. Liverless buffons!

Look at you. grin grin grin No wonder Adamus like you support Buhari. Is going around houding people how to develop a nation? Did you see Mandela going around hounding all his corrupt predecessors? Pumpkin like you. The job of a president is to develop a country and fix infrastructure and the economy, not to go around houding people. Tambuwal? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Tambuwal came into office as a product of corruption now! He was Bankole's candidate remember! EFCC had to arrest Bankole to try and stop the mergence of Tambuwal who was a major party to the 10 billion scam. If GEJ should go all out to hound corrupt officials, Tambuwal will be in jail.

Why will he make a statement without an evidential fact to back it up. When it is very obvious that is his own accusation?

The guy needs to understand the fallacy of Tu Quoque!
I don't need evidence to disprove something that does not exist. Is that so hard for you to understand? The story of Okupe 's statement is false. There is no evidence to prove it. I am not trying to dispel it because it doesn't exist. You don't dispel something that is non existent. It just isn't there. I only gave an explanation of how the rumour originated. You don't need my post to know it was a false statement. A simple Google search proves that. I am just calling you liars out and will continue to do so. Your rant is meaningless to me.

PoliticsKwankwaso, Wamakko Attend PDP Govs’ Meeting With Jonathan by theoctopus(op): 10:27am On Dec 09, 2013
Two Peoples Democratic Party governors who had defected to the All Progressives Congress made a surprise appearance at a peace meeting called by President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday.

The two governors are Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.

Kwankwaso and Wamakko were driven into the premises of the First Lady Conference Hall, Presidential Villa venue of the meeting in the same car at about 9pm.

They arrived about an hour after one of the aggrieved PDP governors, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, arrived the venue.

Aliyu, and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), were already seated at the venue when Kwankwaso and Wamakko arrived.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, who also arrived before them went to confer with the President inside his residence before joining them at the venue.

Jonathan and Vice -President Namadi Sambo arrived the venue at about 9.50pm.

At 10pm, other PDP governors who had earlier met at the Akwa Ibom State Governors Lodge in Asokoro arrived the venue of the meeting.

Those who arrived alongside the PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Godswill Akpabio, were the governors of Abia, Kebbi, Kogi, Katsina, Bauchi, Plateau, Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Ebonyi, Kaduna and Taraba States.

Another aggrieved governor , Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, who has not declared for the APC, did not attend the meeting.

The meeting was still ongoing as of 10.20pm when this report was filed.

Jonathan had on Saturday boasted that the defection of five PDP governors to the APC would not affect the fortune of the ruling party in future elections.

In his first public reaction to the development , Jonathan said three of the five governors were still sitting “on the fence.”

The five governors are Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Abdulfatah Ahmed(Kwara), Wamakko, Murtala Nyako(Adamawa) and Kwankwaso.

Jonathan, spoke with some media houses before departing Paris for Abuja at the close of a two-day summit on peace and security in Africa, said as the governors had decided to leave, those still in the PDP would work harder to attract more supporters .

He said, “We want those governors to come back to the PDP, but in an event where some of them feel that it is better to stay outside, they can go and try.

“If they are leaving , we will work harder to make sure that we get more supporters so that at the end of the day, the equilibrium will be maintained. But I still believe that in Nigeria today, the PDP is still the party to beat.

“As they are leaving the ruling party to the opposition, there are other key political actors who are ready to come to the PDP. At the appropriate time, we will also receive them.”

Jonathan said the governors should not be under the illusion that all their supporters would join them in defecting to their new party.

While describing politics as dynamic, he said “a governor elected by the people must not see himself as a king’’ who could lord it over the electorate.

He said, “I was elected by Nigerians and I will not say because I am the President of Nigeria now, 100 per cent of Nigerians are for me and when I am moving to the left or right, I will be moving with the whole 100 per cent.

“Like the governor of a state, a faction of a state elected them by simple majority and you are declared as a governor. When you are moving, you should know that you are an individual; not all your supporters will want to move with you. They are not your employees and therefore some of them will stay.

“In some cases, the deputy governors in the states are saying that they are not ready to move. I have said that let us see how things will play out.

“However, in politics any party will want everybody in its camp and in the PDP, we want everybody.”

Despite the five governors’ open declaration for the APC, Jonathan said only two appeared that they had actually moved while others are still on the fence.

He however did not name the governors in the different categories.

Jonathan said,”They said they have some grievances with the party and some of them said they were going to leave. But so far, two have openly declared that they are not leaving the party and we are talking to them.

“Out of the remaining five, two appear that they have actually moved to the other political party while some are still on the fence. I believe in a couple of weeks, it will not be too long, it will be very clear whether they are leaving or not.’’

But Amaechi and Nyako faulted the President, saying the future will tell.

Amaechi, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Chief Tony Okocha, stated that the impact of the governors’ defection would soon be obvious.

“ The governor will not controvert Mr. President. But let us watch and see. When you have 23 children and you lose five, it will impact on you, especially when you are losing them to your opponents and not to death,” he said.

Also, Nyako, through his Director of Press and Public Relations, Ahmed Sajoh, said “It is a pity that the President still thinks and feels that way. It is really a pity.”

The APC Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in an interview with one of our correspondents, said the defection of the five governors was a tragedy to the PDP.

“Unless he(Jonathan) is planning to rig massively, the defection of the five governors is a tragedy to the PDP,” he added.

The APC spokesman said the statement by the President clearly showed that he had no regard for the rule of law, adding that it was very unpresidential.

He stated that the PDP would feel the impact of one governor much less five

PoliticsDoyin Okupe Never Made The Mandela Statement by theoctopus(op): 11:05pm On Dec 08, 2013
I have read with dismay the way some people have gone out to the streets to publish yet again, another set of lies just to discredit the President. Doyin Okupe never said at anytime that GEJ was the Mandela of Nigeria. GEJ has never been a proud or arrogant president and even his worst critics know that, whether they admit it or not. So there is no way GEJ or any of his official mouth piece would make such a statement and try to score any political point from the death of Mandela. It is totally not in the presidents character. In fact, we know the kind of politicians that can make such political statements.

The story was totally false and was started by one Theresa Uguanyi on her facebook page. She posted falsely that Okupe had said that "JONATHAN IS OUR OWN MANDELA , HE SPENT 13 HOURS NEGOTIATING WITH ASUU" ... and some liars as usual decided to spread it on this forum. Is this what APC stands for? Lies and more lies? It has become a shameless trend on here. From the golden iPhones story, to GEJ drinking in UK, these folks keep peddling lies after lies. I will only remind them of one thing. Lies can never stand the test of time.

Doyin Okupe has even clarified that not only did he never say that, but the interview Theresa referred to was recorded before Mandela died so there could never have been any reference to the kind of statement as claimed. Even Theresa has admitted her falsification and some still came here and posted the trash. Very shameful campaign being waged against a man because of political, sectional and religious interests. But it will all fail in the end. Lies cannot win the truth!

entuk: intra-party discussions are to some extents ceremonial and don't really bother anybody. BUT WHEN AN ADAMANT PARTY SEEKS TO BRING BACK POLITICIANS THAT WERE ONCE THEIRS? THAT'S A RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT HEADLINE
You are not making sense. First and foremost, if the members really want to defect, they would have done that a long time ago. All their drama is simply to try to force the party to negotiate with them. That means, they were never interested in defecting. Didnt Atiku defect before? What came off it. Or is he going to defect twice? That wouldnt be surprising though, knowing who he is and what he stands for. WH do you think Lamido and Aliyu changed their minds? They dont want to do opposition. They know that it will be a very uphill task to beat PDP and GEJ in 2015. If they defect and loose 2015, they become less politically relevant than they ever were. Their best route to higher political influence is still in the PDP. They are the ones wooing PDP, not the other way around. You delude yourself when you think that:

1. The governors are joining APC because they want to change Nigeria
2. The governors actually love APC like they say on the pages of newspapers.
3. That the governors will be better off politically in APC
4. That all their states will eventually follow them to APC.

Too many false assumptions from you there

sincerenigerian: Akpabio dare the governors to leave PDP, guess what, the governors left PDP 48 hours later and the rest is history.

I spoke to the brother of senator Atiku Bagudu (PDP Kebbi) this morning, he said the worst is yet to happen. He said 27 senators and 62 House members plan to move to APC next year. He said negotiation is on going. He said Theophelous Danjuma has been charged with the task of blessing a young presidential candidate. He said Buhari is not contesting as many of us belief. PDP is about to become SE/SS party.

Let's watch how things unfold in 2014.
Is this what you tell yourself so you can sleep at night? If Danjuma joins APC, even the middlebelt will reject him. Please try and visit middlebelt groups and hear what they are saying. You have no clue. And for the records, APC will not win the south west in the next presidential election. They will not even get up to 30% votes. If you think most christians are going to vote for a Buhari and Tinubu led party, then yu are delusional. Even Lagos election will be based on who PDP or Labour bring out. If they bring out the right candidate, APC will be thrown out. Wake up bro and stop thinking elections are won on social media and newspaper headlines. So you actually think that when a governor defects, the state defects? What kind of reasoning is that? The governor is not the state. Some of the defecting PDP governors could not have won their states on their own merit. They used the party platform. You definitely have little clue of what you are saying

You keep using such absurd statements like "the facts are there". Where exactly? Because the only place that I see such "facts" are from statements and posts by APC people. All the regular organisations responsible for statistics keep posting otherwise. So where in the world are you getting your facts from.

You say the average Nigerian is getting worse. Where did you do your survey? Even common economics of demand and supply suggests the contrary. Sales are up for most products like household goods, food and beverage, recharge cards electronics, etc. Sales are not dwindling. These companies are posting huge profits. Car sales and importation have increased massively. There are no stories of children dying of malnutrition. Its possible they exist, but certainly not in a scale that will suggest a crisis as it obviously isnt even being noticed. I have been following NL for a while now and have never seen any thread that shows children starving from any part of Nigeria yet. So where in the world are you getting your own statistics from? rezy15: After days of reading thru diff posts this is the first meaningful post i hv read. We are always quick to insult ASUU for what is happening to our universities but the truth is we are just being selfish. All we want is to graduate nd go. What happen wen ur gone frm the university? ASUU isn't d only union demanding for better working conditions. eVen doctors are on strike. Only ASUU had the balls to see it to the end. I lost two yrs due to strike all cos our govt doesn't believe in abiding by an agreement. Fellow students who do u think feels
ur pain? Those in govt with kids abroad or the lecturers with kids in poorly equipped federal universities churning out undercooked graduates? Think...
Do you know that the ASUU chairman's children attend universities in Ghana? You guys are always quick to say the government is corrupt and therefore anyone who opposes government is right. That in itself is a greater evil that we must run away from. You cannot use a "government is corrupt" blanket on all government actions and policies. It is very wrong. Every action or policy must be judged on its own merit and in this case, the government is right to demand a review of ASUU's demand. To suggest that ASUU should be given whatever they demand because legislators are "chopping money" is as ridiculous as anything else. ASUU is not the only problem of Nigeria. You talk about government funding but forget that Education had the highest in the 2013 budget. This was a budget that was put in place last year when ASUU hadnt gone on strike. So to suggest the government is not interested in funding education is completely false. The question is how important is funding education in comparison to other sectors. If you ask me, while I agree totally that education is very fundamental in any modern society, I do think that in the immediate term, power, agriculture and healthcare are more important than education in Nigeria. I would even support a move that will give a quarter of our budget to power infrastructure and another quarter to agric and setup of new industries like mining, steel, etc. In the immediate term, we dont need many graduates or "quality graduates". In fact, for our kind of economy, emphasis should be placed on technical education, not university education. That is what is done in Asia.

ASUU are not fighting for Nigerians. They are fighting for their pockets. Nothing in their words, actions and body language suggests they are fighting for students or for Nigeria
