lexy2014:Well, considering the fact that most funding for universities in this country come from the budget...and considering that we have to subsidise fees from the same budget to keep them low...I guess it would be valid to talk about the budget....in this case. As regards standards of living...the fact is that in many foreign countries....fees are very high...and are paid for via student loans (scholarships and grants are performance based....and not that easy to get...AND very easy to lose) And most of those loans HAVE TO BE PAID.....back for as long as 25 years. Many people in developed countries pay a large chunk of their salaries in loans. Then there are countries like Denmark and Germany...that have free education...except that the citizens there pay half their income in taxes for that privilege. As much as I hate to say this.....if we want free education...somehwere, the money has to be paid. And it would be via loans that you pay back for the rest of your life....or via high taxes. |
mildflame:Good afternoon to you sir. I feel your pain. Honest. But in life, we don't always have the choices that we want. If it was up to me, students would go to university for less than N20000 per annum. But Nigeria does not have the money, and the corrupt steal the little we have. Good afternoon. |
BigGuyMan:And a good afternoon to you too.I hear the roses at Boston are lovely this time of year... |
mildflame:1.Or we raise fees...is what I meant to say. 2.You can abuse me freely. Yes, you can call me all the bad names on this earth....but the hard truth...is that we have to raise fees. In 2009, ASUU secured N3 trillion per annum in additional funding for university students. It was meant to be the agreement to end all agreements. In 2013...Government of GEJ told ASUU the hard truth...that N3trillion yearly was not affordable....but N200billion every eyar for the next years was possible. ASUU took the deal then. As a result fee increases were inevitable. God knows I know that it is going to be hard. But the fact is...our universites are starved for cash. As is every other sector in this country. And it is either fees go up....or we go back to the good old days of O and A levels...to reduce numbers in our universites so that costs fall...or we keep on begging IMF for loans....or we fast and pray that oil goes up to $140 per barrel..... So either fees go up....or we keep on having backward , poorly financed universities producing half baked graduates...who will be from poor families, and who won;t be able to compete with the rich kids with their foreign degrees....... So, I am sorry. God knows I know many poor guys and girls who struggled to go to school. But we HAVE NO CHOICE. increase fees now...or suffer the consequences of badly equipped schools later. |
lexy2014:And what is their budget compared to Nigeria? We need N3trillion naira annually to get our cheap fees in universities...assuming we spend that N3 trillion on just universites...according to the ASUU FG 2009 agreement. I hate to say this...but we cannot afford cheap fees. Yes, we spend N1 trrillion on the National Assembly....and that won't be enough. |
Naughtysite:And yet you want your universites to be like foreign universites without considering the costs. Forget blind comparisoms....either we think of a way to find N3 trillion at least JUST for universites in funding...according to the terms of the ASUU FG 2009 agreement....or we rise fees. Or we take loans . |
Ezechinwa:The other countries that are sending man to moon...all nowadays charge fees as high as $20000 yearly. That enables them to fund their universites adequatrely to the point that they can produce the kind of research that would enable them to send humans to the moon. |
Fekkyranky:1.At the time those governors went to school, they paid fees. And scholarships were available...you had to hustle for them. 2.We had fewer students in university then. Not everyone went to university in those days....when you could get a job with just OND in a bank. So, there was more money for funding back then. 3.Even with scholarships,if you were poor back then, it did not mean comfy life. 4.Right now....if we want free education nationwide...we need to spend at least N3 trillion every year for just universites (We haven't talked about primary, secondary, polytechnics, etc). Our budget this year was N8trillion. You got the money? |
queengift:OK...where to 1.Is it in the US...where fees can be between $20000-100000? 2.The UK where fees are 9000 pounds...or higher.? 3.Germany and Denmark where school is free....at the cost of half your income in taxes.? Safe journey. Education is not cheap....especially university. |
Adekdammy:If APC leaves power today....the same thing is going to happen under PDP. Because, the fact is, we need N3 trillion....for just UNIVERSITES....according to the ASUU/FG agreement of 2009....to keep fees low. And our budget for this year was N8trillion. Either government spends half our budget on universites, or we just keep on taking loans.....raising fees is the least offensive option. |
The truth of the matter is that Nigeria cannot afford chesp fees. It would cost N3 trillion in extra funding for our universites to keep fees low. And if the government could not pay that money in 2013 when 'times were good' as PDP people tell us, when will they pay it when the price of oil is lower than in 2013.? We have to face reality. Either fees go up, or we just keep on taking loans to keep fees low. |
If you vote Atiku, he will make the snakes dissapear. If you vote Buhari he will turn the snakes into chickens... |
Psalm18:Yes, yes...bring the money men.... ![]() He isn't going anywhere. The State House won't impeach him, his supporters won;t stop backing him. Ah well......APC....Change. (Nigerians...neither PDP nor APC. Let's throw the whole lot out. APT!) |
Butterflyleo:Short term....agriculture and solid minerals is a good idea. The problem I have with them is that both sectors are subject to price rises and drops like oil.You also need to rely on more than one agricultural product....and then with agric, you need plenty of large scale modernized farming...not subsitience farming which needs large number of people to work (and even here in Nigeria...we still have to import food ) Long term.....we have to go industrial. Make things that people need. It works for many countries...and it would work for us, especially as we have the natural resources. |
Racoon:1.Our economy is reliant on oil 2.We need oil to be at $140 per barrel to run a balanced economy 3.Oil has been at $30-81 in the last 3 years. 4.Hence , we have to borrow money to make the difference. And we have to pay off previous debts too. 5.The way forward is simple...we have to get off oil. |
Maket:What are you insuniating? 1.Atiku started his public service in the Paramilitary service ....Customs. And he joined before NYSC even started up.And according to the NYSC act if you join origanisations like Customs,Immigration,Police, Prisions, etc...before university....you do not need to be an NYSC corper 2.Buhari was in the Nigerian Army in 1962....a full ten years before NYSC was formed. And even if NYSC was exisitng....he can't/could join since as a soldier he is already on National Serivce!/fufiled his national service obligation via the millitary. 3.Brigadier Tsiga is an exception. He graduated from University in 1981, did his NYSC, then joined the Army after and eventually rose to the rank of Brigadier General...before he became the NYSC head (he is the first , and so far only ex corper to HEAD NYSC. ) If he had joined the Army before going to university (like many soldiers in this country do) he would have never served as a corper. 4.Less than 1% of corpers have died while on serivce. Most corpers surivie service alive. You Nigerians....the internet exists for a reason |
ahnie:Okay...so let us buy some Dodge Police Interceptors...at least ten per state for we country....and watch as the budget for the police finishes...meanwhile we have not yet talked about maintenance costs, spare parts....which would be more expensive because.... Let's be honest, all those countries on the list have one thing in common...higher tax rates than Nigeria. If you want something better than the ancient hilux we are driving....then pay higher taxes, and stop chanting Atikulated or Sai Baba... By the way, the Toyota Hilux that is the backbone of our Police....that car has a very very tough engine. And it lasts long. And it is cheap. And easy to fix. Better bargain for a poor country like Nigeria, eh.? |
KoeChz:Some years ago in Lagos....a pipeline burst. One poor woman told a poor young man to stay away from the pipeline. The man refused to listen...he died...in the resulting explosion. Poverty is all very well...but common sense is still common sense. There are poor people who run away when a pipeline burst. |
ATEAMS:No, nawao....where are our people How many times has this happened...a pipeline bursts....and instead of people to keep away, people promptly start scooping fuel or kero. Just one spark later...lives are lost. For many years...NNPC and other agencies have been warning people.....Stay away from burst pipelines. Dont go near burst pipelines. But people don;t hear...and they will be claiming poverty. Yes, this country is poor...but poverty does not mean we take leave of our senses. Forget APC, forget PDP....when people start having sense in our country....perhaps we would see less of this crisis. |
muystoy:Good. May you marry one of these industrious and clever ladies! ![]() |
But the girls who were rescued did not look excited about the rescue. Looking very angry as they were being taken away, the girls whispered among themselves, warning each other to inflate their ages and pretend to be older.Speaking on behalf of all doctors, nurses, pharmacists....let us thank God for all these new customers . Because when they come to us with conditions ranging from infertility to HIV/AIDS.....all the money they have made from their business...they would be putting it in our accounts. Chei...medicos for Kubwa dem don hammer....financially! In case you don't know...HIV can shatter your kidney, liver, and other organs. And when that happens.....more money, more money.(Especially the kidney one...dialysis machines na the investment sef.......medicos knows wetin I dey talk) (Person wey wan bury imself....na im go bury imself. Jokes of ladies.). P.S....Oga Pastor too go benefit...especially ten years from now when these slay mamas go dey look for fruit of the womb! ![]() |
adem30:? Heritage Bank is not owned by GEJ. The name linked with the bank has been the Saraki family..though Senate presido says he owneth no dime in the bank. |
And when the current INEC chair was appointed, PDP supporters and some Southerners were calling him 'Fulani slave'. Wel....looks like he is no slave....but a professional. Kudos. Might be Jega mk 2. |
Hmmm Investigations by the commission revealed that the amount was the proceeds from the sale of Federal Government properties in the Federal Capital Territory between 2010 and 2014.APC is bad...but lest we forget...PDP is just as bad. But the sad thing is Nigerians love bad things. We get the government we deserve in 2019....be it PDP or APC. |
NCAN laboratories... Test results Hausa: NEGATIVE Yourba: NEGATIVE Igbo: NEGATIVE Abort the mission. Repeat...Abort Mission! |
IbrahimDamola:This problem has been going on long before Buhari tookover. Patients not paying their bills? Happens all the time And the thing is....the only solution is that we pay high taxes so that government in return can fund health care adequately....because we need at least N3 trillion, if not more to fund health care adequately in this country. Sad thing is that neither APC or PDP have any ideas. And oil is still too low to pay for everything. |
Yes , many hospitals charge high bills...largely because healthcare costs money. And a chronic illness like Sickle Cell Anemia is bound to chop a lot of money (which is why AS and AS are in some circles advised not to marry). Thing is, how does the activist expect the hospitals to get their money 1.Government pays the bills...which looks good...until you realise that a sickler can be in hospital several times in one year. Once that happens, the health budget will begin to balloon....at which point government starts cutting costs...by paying for just one admission a year (hypothetical case). 2.Or Government charges high taxes. Yes, Buhari has failed...but we are not earning enough cash from oil to sustain subsides in health (unless you want us to remove subsidy on fuel...and channel the extra money on health care). Thing is, if you want free health care....it is high taxes route, high loans route or we hope oil goes above $140 per barrel tomorrow. |
Assuming NOI is interested... She believes in, among other things, removal of fuel subsidy. That would be good news for our economy, but bad news for our politicians..... |
hateme777:Arthur Unegbe died in the first coup. Ironsi too almost died....he disarmed his would be captors haivgng recieved advance warning...very noarowly. If the person warning him had been a few minutes late...and let's not forget July 66....which led to the deaths of many Igbo...and yes...what happened in January and July 66 was not right. 1. Ipob's manipulated & cunningly collected $ 5000 dollars from the suspect Atiku Abubakar, as a means to buying arms and fundings for their proscribed association (ipob).( see punch news paper.)Allegation, no proof. 2. When other delegates from North,Central and South West where avoiding the suspect due to his investigation by USA homeland security, and inability to set foot in USA but ipob's deliberately met him & a price was negotiated from $10000 down to $5000. (See Harlibuton case CNN.) A leader that has failed his first assignment by buying his mandate, na by force ?. How much more once he is elected, what of the $5000 × 180m = ....or $5000x1567= pdpThen how did Atiku win? (I am no Atiku supporter...I will NEVER vote for him, and I know he bribed...but he could not have won with only SE ovtes ) 3.ipobs believe if the suspect wins there will be so much looting of state resources that Nigeria will go bankrupt, which will make it impossible to pay security agencies their wages, from that position ipobs pigs can strike and deal with Nigeria with a single blow, just like Boko haram did during GEJ government, when more than 19 LGA where under the terrorists group, as salaries were owed, zero motivations & out of date military gears. Budgets for arms were looted, by PDP government. ( see The nation).Looting went on, but IPOB....had nothing to do with it. The looting was done by Nigerians from all tribes...Igbo inclusive. See the Dasuki trial. 4. A situation where the suspect wins under PDP come, 2019. And the looting (bleeding) continues as predicted, due to the weakness of the state, Ipobs pigs will annex south south to Biafra land for their economic benefits, i e oil. (Ibid)Is looting not happening under APC too.....and yes, PDP are just as bad. However Even after they cede , just like South Sudan. Biafra will indulge in civil war, because they lack central authority in their political culture, there are villages with less than 100 peoples scattered around with stubborn kings, instead of village head, which is an ember for war ( Enugu ipob will never bow to Delta ipob). During the civil war their refugees will become a liability to Nigeria and Africa as a whole.Grow up and stop being a bigot. However the civil war of 1967 caused high rate of illiteracy amongst them, apprenticeship in spare parts, plumbing materials, armed robbery, vote selling, internet fraud, adulteration of food items, ritualism, fake drugs, hard drugs mule's, prostitutions & other vices became the new schools of today.. Hence any civil war will make them loose the little level of progress they have now.Yes, we know about all them vices in Ibo land...which also happen all over Nigeria.....so please stop it. In summary PDP are whether knowingly or unknowingly agents of the devils that want to end the political entity called Nigeria. Its high time necessary actions are taken irrespective of any blackmail or fake news made by the medias supporting these unscrupulous elements against our National interest and development.
No, it is high time we voted for and put pressure on our leaders to end corrupotion and take steps to make us a self reliant industrial nation, end all subsides, take loans for power and transprot, and stop relying on oil....our real problem And stop being a bigot. I am for one Nigeria, I am also no tribalist, and I detest all corrupt people...PDP, APC or whatever. Nigeria awake! |
