edibobo:Lie was speaking too soon.... But let's be honest. In 2013...Boko was bombing all over the place up and down. Now,they are not. By 2014...Boko controlled large partsof Borno, Yobe and parts of Adamamwa...and were even moving into Bauchi...now they are restricted to tiny parts of Borno And then they have been divided into two factions. Boko is not defeated....but they are not the force they once were. |
Ogaga87:There is adifference between 'urban'and 'gureilla' warfare. As an example....the USA has been in Afghanistan for over 15 years. Yet to defeat the Taliban....why? Because...the Taliban are fighting a gurreilla war....a war where they just harry the Army.....take hostages and use them as shields and as means of getting concessions... Gurreilla warfare....asymetric warfare....is the most easy form of warfare to fight if your opponent outguns you and is stronger than you. Boko knows that if they fight the Nigerian army on the battlefield...they willlose, and lose heavily....and indeed they have. Far better to attack isolated Army posts, isolated schools like Chibok and Dapichi, and isolated villages. Add the fact that Boko is motivated by ideology. You cannot beat ideology. Same with the Taliban. This war is going to go on for decades....until Boko gets fed up or until someone gives up. A crucial aspect of this fight is that the state a d local governments are not doing well by their people. They better start. Same thing in Afghanistan....where the corruption makes Nigerian corruption look like child's play. |
tete7000:1.Fitch, the ratings agency, is the source of the break-even price. It varies by country. 2.Oil has been above $80 for a long time, and has fallen below 75 too, between 2008-10, and 2014-18..From 2010-14, oil was above $90. 3.Buhari govt is not doing well because low oil prices. They are not doing well because they keep us dependent on oil |
Hmm Basically this is what happens when you arent earning enough cash from oil due to oil being below the breakpoint price of $140. You increase the taxes. |
gidgiddy:For the North and South Cameroon referendum...let's back up a bit 1.Before 1914, Cameroon was run by the Germans. After the end of WW1, which the Germans lost...the Cameroons were split into two 'Trustee Territories'....one part administered by the British, the other part administered by the French. 2.It was always part of the plan that the Northern and Southern 'Cameroons' would be administered by the British under/on behalf of the UN(before 1945 the League of Nations)....and as a result...the referendum of 1961 was held under UN ....not Nigerian...auspices. That is the difference . It was not held under Nigerian law. |
gidgiddy:Scotland parliament passed a law that allowed for the referendum after an agreement with the overall British parliament to allow them handle the matter under the principle of devolution of powers to the Home Countries which was established by law in the 1990s and under such laws, it would have been London determining such a decision re referendum. In Nigeria, it would require the passage of a new law amending the constitution to allow for the passage of a bill allowing for a part if the country to hold a referendum on secession. (Note that our system is not the same as the UK. We have a written constitution, the UK does not for example) So, not the same. More info. About the referendum Act : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Independence_Referendum_Act_2013 |
Maxymilliano:GEJ also had the benefit of oil at $100 and above from 2011-14. Bubu had oil at $75 when he took over, $30 by 2016 and $80 now. And he had to rebuild the savings that were almost gone under GEJ. Bubu is not a good leader. He should have removed subsidies and taken loans specific for power. But he was operating under an oil shock. Which GEJ would have been under if he were still in power |
kennygee:11k per month? What house are you living in, are you on a meter, and I doubt your salary is less than 20k a month. |
Hmm If you want an increase in salaries, either 1.Hope that oil goes above $140 per barrel, our break-even price according to fitch. 2.Increase taxes massively on all private firms. 3.Do as GEJ did, and stop saving forex and spend the savings on an increase. 4.Diversify the economy which takes time. 5.Remove subsidy on fuel, which means more cash to spend, and more foreign investment with the negative of high PMS prices at the pump |
bosco2017:Then go to the trenches and fight a war like the Boko Haram people who want an Islamic State, but have also given up on the constitution. I'm not insulting you. I am merely stating the consequences of your assertion. The American Constitution was unfair to black people. Did not stop the Civil Rights movement from using the same constitution to fight for their rights via political involvement. Once again, if you want peaceful secession, change the laws to guarantee that. And you can only do that via participation in the flawed political process. Anything else means war |
gidgiddy:Which is essentially part of my solution. The other part is the important bit...... Get the law changed, and you can only do that if you have guys on the inside of power backing you up. |
I don't back ipob or biafra, but let us assume I do. If I did, I would not only back Igbo VP for PDP, I would back Igbo participation in APC too. The only way ipob can get referendum is by an amendment to the constitution, which means you have to participate in the Nigerian democratic process. The only other option is armed revolt which won't end well, and they know it. Yes Scotland got a referendum and they might even get another one. That is because the British legal system allows for such. Catalonia in Spain tried to get a referendum but because the laws in Spain said no, they got nowhere. So Ipob should work with the reality of Nigeria or forget Biafra. Or organize revolt which would lead to Python Dance Part Deux, which no one would like. Ike Ekweremadu has already given a blueprint that can work. I won't add more. |
CROWNWEALTH019:Yeah....we should excuse crime because.....APC are criminals... You PDP and APC guys are not interested in Nigeria...you just wanna chop money. Wake up. And FYI....I think APC has failed....but PDP was no better....and if they had still been in power.....this country would have still been in a mess. |
kenn4rill: ![]() On a more serious note, we cannot do anything meanigful with the current oil price...unless we take high loans GEJ did a lot ofprojects with the oil money....but he benefited from high oil prices above $100 per barrel, plus he started out with $47bn in the reserve.Bubu , yes he is not so good....but he did have oil oscillating between $29-81 over the last 3 years....meaning he had to take loans at a higher rate than even GEJ to keep the budget balanced...and loans must be paid back. Thing is, Bubu can get some easy money for projects by removing fuel subsidy...and channeling the cash into the treasury...while foreign investment flows in. He won't because most Nigerians won't let him. (Part of the reason why GEJ had cash to spend on sureP...was hispartial removal of subsidy. Too bad NLC was blind in 2012...). According to FITCH...oil has to be at $140 per barrel before we can balance the books adequately |
More reason to do some actualwork on the economy, We have to remove subsidy for starters..... And we have to have a plan to fix power. Nigeria cannot rely on oil. The era of high oil price has gone.....since 2014. |
Nemesis001:Now,let us do some magic... Nemesis001:See how cynical Nigerians are. Nemesis001 and Butterflyle0 ......don't come grumbling when thou repeast the fruit of thy labour. Anyway, Nigerians have no choice.....we have to choose between Corruption and Kwarruption....until the elite wake up and do their jobs. Same for Nigerians too. |
The fun part of this thread is that PDP corruption supporters are fighting APC corruption supporters. Both sides are not interested in Nigeria...it is their pockets they love. Well, Nigeria's problem is beyond PDP and APC....it is Nigerians themselves who are their worst problem. Instead of them to face the corrupt elite...they fight amongst themselves. See the Osun election. People were happily accepting bribes....to vote for this candidate...and at the end of the day they will shout 'Bad governance'...only to repeat same next election time. PDP and APC supporters...wake up. We need to clean our house first before we talk of painting the place up. |
capatainrambo:Not excusing Osibanjo's daughter....but like people, like government. From time inmemmorial...Nigerians have been 'influencing' NYSC positings up and down. And it won't stop if we change government. iT WILL CONTINUE...because ....Nigerians |
So, essentially, you have to do NYSC as a foriegn graduate, EVEN if you are over 30 years of age... Interesting. |
Atiku too has his corruption issues...so pretentding that he is purer than APC is really a joke. Truth be told...we have a bad choice in 2019. .....PDP the party of the corrupt vs APC the party of the corrupt. Ideally, the good thing is to vote out APC, vote in PDP....and if the PDP shows that a leopard does not change its spots....vote in APC in 2023...and keep on doing so until the elite come to their senses....and start doing what we voted them for. So, vote for PDP....but don't pretend that Atiku is corruption free. Because he ain't. Neither is the APC . And it is sad, really. |
giztzone:Will you please stop lying? NYSC camps have chapels and mosques. Lying is not good. |
You know... I think that some people are looking forn trobule. Look at the job applications. No 8 clearly states that one of the job offerigns is CHAPLAIN. Or is the Navy to be made up of only Muslims..or Only Christians.? Oga Seun, please, let us not make Nairaland the source of unnecessary provocation. |
milehigh06:Thing about Nigerian politics People grumble about the evil elite upstairs in Aso rock, but propose sensible candidates like Moghalu, Sonaya, Sowore, even Duke, and they will laugh at you, and vote for the same old folks |
CilicMarin:APC may have a tough ride next year. The middle Belt is uncertain, and even though Osun and Ekiti were won, the margin of victory was narrow, especially Osun, a previously reliable state. Atiku coming in means that Adamawa is gone. Taraba too, with the issues around Mama Taraba is very uncertain. Even the North, Sokoto and Kano may be a bit problematic. But as in 2015, the mane battlefield is the Middle belt. Benue and Plateau are gone. Kwara is probably gone. Taraba is iffy.. Niger and Kaduna are the only reliable, Gombe is gone (Dankwambo holds sway there, and that is a rare example of a good PDP governor) APC could lose. (I am no APC or PDP fan by the way. And Atiku has no ideas for Nigeria like Bubu) |
Bolustical:True, but the French and British food fight is of epic proportions. Recently some French people were grumbling about the number of English Loan words in their language |
miqos02:Does not mean that the new marriage would end in divorce |
Abba Kyari strikes again! Abba Kyari strikes again! |
Good idea. If you are losing weight, and doing it to impress someone, you will fail and fail and fail. Do it for you, not for some other person that might still call you fat behind your back after losing 30kg |
oshe11:No problem. God bless! |
tomtween1:Reflected in my modified post upthread...thanks. |
oshe11:See my modified post above Also, I was not rude to you, so why should you be rude to me. Please, try to be polite, even on anonymous online fora like Nairaland. The person you may be insulting might be your relation or brother. Thanks and good evening. |
SarcasticGenius:Actually, Lucky Dube was killed when, after dropping off his two kids at school...two men attempted to hijack his car, and shot him dead. Both men were caught, and sentenced. Nothing to do with being mistaken for Nigerian Correction...seems they did mistake him for one...though stealing a car was the prioroty A second gunshot rang out as he went back to the VW. Mhlanga and Gxowa then returned and told him to drive off." |

Too bad her father was killed because he was mistaken for a Nigerian.
