FL Gators:Well, just as you said, they are last names. The names were given to those with such circumstantial births. Till today, the names are still given to these kinds of children. You don't just give birth to a child and name them, Aina, Ojo, Taye, Kehinde, etc. There has to be a genuine natural reason. So if they have them as last names, it's very sure that the names were given to those people. There's no special history about the names other than those earlier explanations. |
FL Gators:All those names are attributed to those who have circumstantial birth. I think the questions about the names had been correctly and adequately answered on the previous two pages. So I guess there are more people who have this birth qualities in Ekiti. As for the mother/mother-in-law visiting a new mother, I think that's common in the South. I don't know if such exists in the North. In some parts of Yoruba land, the wife's mother is allowed to come to take care of the new mom --- it's believed she'll know how to take care of her daughter more and the closeness between the two will help the new mom a lot. However, in very rare cases, the hubby's mom comes. Most people don't approve the latter because it's a wide belief that they might see faults with the wife; which is so many times absolutely unnecessary. The same applies to south-southerners and the south-easterners. The Igbos will call it "Omugwu". It's a common phenomenon in the South though |
No one can say what's true in this situation. We could have been sure if he had opted for a DNA test. Well, if he finally had come out to be truly MJ's son, he may be scared of whatever drama might come to surface. Besides, there's too much going on right now about Jackson. |
posakosa:Ok, that's nice. Very good. |
posakosa:Ok, that's cool. Which state are you coming? |
true. I wasnt named Oke, for example. But I was told I'm an "Oke". btw I'm reading a book about early Abeokuta and it seems Aina used to be a male name as well. Along the line I guess it became exclusively female.
Yes, Aina was used for both gender back then, it gradually waned and was only appended to females. But, I used to know a man, his name was Ojo Aina. |

posakosa:OK. He must be a very good man, obviously. ![]() |
Nice tips. I guess all these lies in you. You can't imbibe what you don't have inside you. But sure, they are good tips. |
posakosa:Yes, many men may say that and at the end of the day act differently in the face of pressure. When I do get married, I am because I can solely make my wife happy, give her confidence, satisfaction, fulfillment etc. My parents and family got nothing to do with her. I married her, not them. If I have any problem with her, I don't go to them. I handle it with my wife. It's a very childish act for us to act on advice of parents when it comes to marriage. So many men claim to love a woman and in the heat of so much pressure from their parents, another tune is sang. If I can decide to marry my wife despite her inability to have a child, it's none of my family's business. It's either you take it or leave it. You can't live with that, that's your problem not mine. You can't come to my house and harass my wife. If it's too much pressure for her to go see my family, I will stop her from going there. Until they change their stance, they will not set their eyes on me. The problem we have in Nigeria is that, we listen to what people would say and most times we just prejudice. Most people don't follow their heart, they are always worried about "what will people say?" "how will I look to the public?". There are lots of men who're willing to help their wives with culinary activities, laundry and so on, but what happens? He can't and won't because he doesn't want his family or his friends to think he's a fool --- that's pretense and not living up to be a man on your own. |
