justwise: hayqinsbFX:While I agree that many documents that Naija applicants use are junk, @justwise I have to disagree with you on the bolded. @HayqinsbFX is correct. The sponsor's capital assets show the VO that he/she is robust outside of his/her liquid funds. If the sponsor is a parent, then those capital assets in some way also show that the applicant "may" have something to come back home to if he/she isn't able to stay legally in Canada anymore. Also, I think study leave letters in general are not a terrible idea, but most Naija applicants have made them terrible because many such docs are either faked or don't make sense (e.g. study leave for a job unrelated to the course of study, four-year study leaves, study-leave for a very low-paying job, etc) when included in the application. Study leave letters (and an accompanying letter from the company to the embassy) only make sense when the training the applicant is going for is being sponsored by the company and the applicant indeed will use the skills for a technical area sorely needed by the company. |
Bro, I'm so sorry to hear about your financial situation. I would strongly recommend that you get a thesis-based MSc admission before you leave Nigeria, unless you know with high probability that there is a professor in Canada that will give you funding. Alternatively, consider finding another sponsor that you would plan to ultimately pay back. ceemac: |
WenduIce:Sister, welcome to the thread. I would strongly recommend that you read Part 8 of the thread. It is 500 pages, but at the rate of 20 pages per day, it should take you one month to finish. If you read it attentively your chance of obtaining a visa will be 90%, especially as you are a simple applicant. When you read it, make sure you either write down or paste into another file any information that would be valuable for you. No point rushing to send in your TRV app if it is not excellent. Part 8 (or Part 7) will answer all your present and future questions. |
No. The ending balance should cover your total tuition amount plus 10k CAD living expenses (total annual costs). Perhaps you could show an ending balance with 6800CAD less than the total annual costs but to reduce risk the balance should be at least the total annual costs. Btw, the thread has all this information. I'd recommend you read Part 8. senatonato: |
@amefrica is at UPEI. ohammed199: |
CIC says it shouldn't affect your chance (sorry I can't find the link but will post it if I find it). But then I don't know if the Accra VOs prejudice your application based on this. opia12345: |
Yes you can. I read it on the CIC website somewhere. Don't take my words for it though, do a google search and find it for yourself. opia12345: |
It is possible to transfer from course-based to thesis-based, but it depends on the university. You might wanna email your prospective school's program coordinator to ask. Transferring to one university to another is possible, but think about the costs (in time and money). Keep in mind that the new school may require you to start all over again. My advice is that you should try to get into the ideal program for you even before you leave Naija. ceemac: |
Well then you have to follow the deadline. What is the expiry date on your TRV? favour0011: |
Yup, North American universities (Canada & USA) are ALL wayyyyy better than ALL Nigerian universities, when it comes to facilities, resources & opportunities. We indeed have a very long way to go. Both my siblings have made the same observations that you just made. Yes they are both doing well. Hope you are looking forward to warm weather in the upcoming summer season, you are about three months away from summer. Also, hope you have found something to like about the winter season. ![]() EmmaMsc: |
Hey bro, yeah after both my siblings got their TRVs I haven't spent as much time on here but I still pop in once in a few days or whenever I am chanced. Hope your first semester is going well. EmmaMsc: |
Well, given that your niece is a simple applicant you don't have to read both Parts 7 and 8. One part alone will do, and this is mostly valuable for the TRV (temporary resident visa) application portion. In any case, the two links I provided you are more than good enough to get started. If you insist on getting an agent, then why not instead ask one of the gurus on here to help you and then dash him/her/them the money you would have given an agent! I'm one such guru , you can view my posting history. . Most agents are not better than the gurus on this thread. Also, I should add that your niece may need to be invested in the process (irrespective of if you use an agent) in order to present her application in the best way possible. Best of luck. bebe2: |

Yep, don't use an agent. But then you (or your niece) would need to be willing to read the relevant parts of thread or use Google. Part 7 or Part 8 of the thread is probably best to read. Also, your niece is a very simple applicant so make sure she doesn't waste time in applying to the school and then apply for TRV shortly after (or shortly before) she graduates. bebe2: |
Kenyata:Most of the time, yes. |
Newcomers (i.e. wkkwl, andre99, kennynelcon, adeyemidare, chisco8, houseofb1, and others), my long post above may help you. Read painstakingly. |

That's a lot of reading... just jump to Part 7. Read 7-8 and you should be fine, unless you are a super complex applicant or something. adeyemidare: |
bosypumpin:You are welcome. I'm not that active on here anymore, especially as I have answered a large fraction of questions that can be asked about applying for a TRV. Lol. Cheers. :-), |
Email the department of interest in such grad schools and ask them directly. godG: |
I am very certain that there's nothing new I can tell you that is different from all that I've written in my various old posts to help others tackle these same exact delay issues. My advice for you is to read my posting history or mention any of the other gurus if you'd rather not read the history. If you really want a TRV, then you need to be willing to read the thread. So far, it doesn't show that you have done this due diligence. Pls do the needful. igwenunsa: |
You don't need to put any "To" or "From" address; that's a waste of space. Just title it "Statement of Purpose" or whatever you want. andre99: |

Hello @doubled123, I'm sorry but I don't accept PM requests anymore (except in rare justifiable scenarios) as I am very busy these days. I will however attempt to answer your question if you post it on here directly and mention me. Posting on here also helps other people learn. doubled123: |
notasowie: notasowie:Stop being scared. Make sure you state when you were denied the US visa and what kind of visa they denied you (e.g. student visa, B1/B2 visa, etc). Providing more than enough information about your prior US denial could lead the CIC VO to see you as a honest person. In any case, do state your US visa denial. Many people on here were denied a US visa several times but still got a Canadian visa thereafter. If you do not state your US denial, your TRV application might be rejected for that reason! |
Did you open all the pdfs in the "Letter of Sponsorship" dropbox link? If you did, you would find it in the last two. The page title is "Sponsorship Declaration". By the way, stop expecting to be spoon-fed. I already pointed you to the right documents, yet it appears that you didn't look through it thoroughly.

|
sirheed2:This is up to you. You can go apply for a US visa, but keep in mind the impression it may create to CIC if you get denied a US visit visa (which is likely assuming you are young and without a robust travel history, good job, and/or fat bank account) and then apply for a Canadian student visa almost immediately after. Think about it. Admittedly, with a US visa, you would be more likely to get a TRV. It is ultimately your call. There are pros and cons here. If I were you, I would forget the US visa application (unless you are charismatic and are good at face-to-face interviews and have extremely strong ties to Naija). sirheed2:Prepare all your application documents, but then renew your passport exactly once it is six months till expiration then apply to CIC immediately. That's April. sirheed2:An agent doesn't have more information that what's available on this thread. Read the thread. Or, instead of wasting that money on an agent, you might as well convince one of the gurus on this thread to help you and dash the agent money to said guru. |
You are welcome to PM me, but I'm not responding to PMs anymore except in rare cases. I am bombarded with too many PMs and requests (most of which I have gladly obliged to in the past), but I am very busy and can't keep up. I have in the past posted a number of comments on what a good SOP should contain, here's an example. goffy2k: |
Yes your friend can apply through another agent; to my awareness there's no rule requiring you to be stuck with the same agent. FYI: "your friend" should be wary, very wary, if he/she doesn't want to get a visa ban (in regards to the bolded). Jesemela: |
@shodexy Read my post above and click the relevant link to search for schools with your desired program @bamijayy Read my post above and click on the "letter of sponsorship" link @Yinkyyinkie Pls ask your question on here, I have posted responses to an extremely wide range of TRV-related questions so pls read through the thread or my long posting history. I'm bombarded with too many requests of a wide variety and can't respond to most PMs anymore (due to being very busy), unless you want to compensate me for my time. |

My bro got his TRV in early December. He and my sister are now both in Canada. How's the rainy but-significantly-warmer-than-the-rest-of-Canada Vancouver weather treating you? Cheers. deedee0: |
